Since moving to Portland, I have been wandering, nomadic, if you will, from hair salon to hair salon, looking for a roost to call my own. Today I found it and there is no doubt in my mind that this is where I will be trusting my locks from here on out. Michael & Jason are masters of sizing things up, listening to what customers like, and then helping to achieve the best look that is unique for you. I am so pleased!
The shop itself is clean, modern, comfortable. There are snacks, and a sitting area with a fireplace. I especially love the high school graduation photos of Michael & Jason's mothers in all their hair glory! Michael's mom in particular has some mighty fine bouffant action going on! Ah yes...the days of AquaNet...(okay, now I'm revealing too much...). Suffice to say, I love Spruce, want them to have fabulous success, and at the same time, I want to continue to get an appointment! I'll be back in 8 weeks...so that, you know, we can rekindle the discussion from waaayyy back:

They've done it! It's back! Customer service is definitely the mode for Spruce! It is fantastic to have a place where I can relax, catch up on my celebrity gossip, get my caffeine 'fix' while checking my email. I know that every time I go there I am sure to leave with a little extra sass in my step! I am always happy with how Jason does my hair (I have a lot of it, and it's not an easy feat!), Katie has perfectly shaped my brows, and Michael has me pumped and smiling for whatever is next on my agenda!
I highly recommend Spruce to everyone!

Michael (the owner) has succeeded with flying colors and brought his vision to life in the cozy, relaxing and expertly designed space that is Spruce!! No detail has been spared, making for a wonderful salon experience every time you visit.
Jason is really great and patient when it comes to listening to what I want for my style and color. He takes my ideas and the random pictures of celebrity hairstyles I've brought in and talks with me about what will work best for me and my hair type. As a result, I leave consistently happy with my style and the experience I've had while at Spruce!
UPDATE: Oct. 2009: Jason is no longer at SPRUCE so Michelle now cuts and colors my hair.. she is amazing! (Michael sure kows how to staff a salon!) I highly recommend Michelle and the whole Spruce team for all your beautification needs! :-) (They even sell a fabulous paba-free self-tanner!)
Loree is a hidden gem at Spruce. she is the nail goddess! that's it...nails and only nails. no quicky treatment, an hour for a manicure. she explained what those ridges are and what can be done about them. no rush, no nail salon smell and my manicure lasted 2 weeks. she only works Tuesdays, so you need to book ahead but she is well worth the effort.
