I am a ruthless murderer of plants.
It took me some time to acknowledge this, but I had finally run out of excuses. I couldn't blame it on the city tap water when so many people can clearly sustain green life. But the killing of every plant that entered my abode was becoming costly, and it was time to admit it: I needed help.
I walked into Sprout and perused the potential victims- the guy working caught sight of me and strode right over. I confessed that my thumb was black, and he asked about the conditions of my apartment, everything from light to humidity to... well that's it, really. I answered honestly and he suggested two plants, one for my bathroom and one for my bedroom, which is never really light and never really dark. He and a co-worker spent 15 minutes telling me EXACTLY how to care for the plants. I followed their instructions.
The plants are alive. 4 weeks later. I am absolved. Thank you, Sprout employees.

i do enjoy this place, i've become conspicuous with my visits so i try to keep it to once a month or two. the staff remember you, they know what you bought last time, and they love plants. the owner is an artist who hand selects the home decor items. they're not overpriced for pieces that will give you years of enjoyment and compliments from company. each person in there has an interesting story and you really get the feeling they're all good friends.
everything is available online, for the shopper who likes to get in and out, you can pre-shop and know what to ask for. they're constantly updating the store layout. a lot of their dried flowers are stored away so you have to ask for them. a sure bet for friends visiting your neighborhood, or newcomers to the city.
succulants! they always have lovely-ugly-wierd ones in the window. not expensive and don't require much water = plants that live through business trips, vacations and benders.

Sprout a money tree and shop here. It's not a bargain gardening store, however, it is possible to find plants within your budget. Tillandsias from $6.50 to trees $60+. Expect to pay above average prices for their modern style pots and furniture.
Kitchy stuff such as a grow your own venus fly trap or sea monkeys can also be found here.

A great place to browse and look for gifts. One of the few places in the city I've seen that has paper white bulbs. And it has probably more "Home" than "Sprout".
There's a "shop dog" here that I caught eating some weird thing off the floor that looked like cardboard and meatloaf.
Overpriced? You bet.

Gosh,I really want to love this place. Except that the last time I was there I saw the same chartreuse vase that I bought on sale at Banana Republic Home (remember that?) and paid $12.00 for. At Sprout it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $60.00. It is the exact same vase I have! You are better off buying any pots for your plants in Chinatown. Cute concept though and if I had the cash to burn I would buy there. There is a cute dog that lives there and the plants are beautiful.

I usually fantasize about the items here rather than purchase them because the stuff is *overpriced*, ya'll. Since it is in the hood though, I will frequently pop in, and on more than one occasion, have picked up a last minute birthday or house warming gift here.
Sprout carries modern home accessories, plants, bulbs, children's gifts, candles, gardening books and more.

I went to Sprout Home because I was in desperate need of plant stakes and when I called they had the bamboo plant stakes for $1 apiece, so I went there after work one day. They were out of this one organic pest deterrent that the manager swore by, but I got a garlic spray which helped slightly, but the pests keep on a munching on my tomato babies. It's my own fault for wanting to grow tomatoes without harmful chemicals. I also bought a huge bag of organic potting soil there and it seems to be helping my babies grow, so A+.
Sprout Home has a bunch of beautiful pots which are out of my price range, but the woman helping me suggested if I just needed something for the porch to go to Home Depot, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed looking around Sprout Home and they had some awesome Tord Boontje glasses that a friend had on her wedding registry last year that I loved. As others have said, the housewares part of the store is really fun to look through. I'll definitely wander over here again.

Sprout Home is an easily overlooked gem in Chicago's independent retail community. Sure, they have plants-- but the Design (capital D) is what sets this place apart from the billions of other boutiques. The owner has curated a selection that's easily on par with the design stores in Brooklyn or San Francisco. Well done.

It's one of those places that I think there's more here than there actually is.
And they make ok things look much cuter and nicer than when they're out of context. Just try to picture them alongside your existing things. But as gifts, go ahead and buy.

This is my favorite place to shop. the help is amazing, and the selection is great. If you want to get something that is different the the usual stuff you find at garden centers, in this area, then this is your spot. Good, competitive prices, and the atmosphere is a cut above. they also offer a garden share in the summer, and some programs. Great job!

Sprout is amazing! I went to Sprout a couple of months ago because I found out they carry Blik removable wall decals. I ended up looking through their entire store of little plants, candles and other home decor trinkets. They have an awesome garden outside and a huge slection of trees and such on their rooftop. I'll be going back soon!

I haven't bought anything at Sprout Home...yet. And that is a BIG yet. I am thinking of redoing my kitchen/dishes and they have very cool and practical pieces for not a lot of money. Definitely not for the boring! They also have a fabulous selection of coffee table books.

This is by far my favorite store in my neighborhood. They just extended their hours for summer and are open until 8, so its perfect to stroll there after work and have plenty of time to peruse. While it's a little pricey, they carry interesting plants and unique decor that could easily be found in the pages of Dwell or I.D. Many items they carry are handmade, from independant artists, or are usually found online like Blik wall decals and the white revolver vase. And those seem to be the only "mass produced" decor items they carry, other than a few of their cards I also saw at Paper Source. The best part of this store is the service. The people who work here are always so friendly and willing to answer any questions about their products. One girl spent nearly an hour with me trying to put together the perfect gift for my Mom's birthday, which turned out absolutely gorgeous. Great place for creative gifts. I just love this store, and I really appreciate the modest independant mentality all around. Sprout is a designer's dream.

I happen to dig plants. A lot. Sprout home has a decent selection of indoor plants and a great selection of outdoor trees as well. Of these selections, most of what you have to choose from is awesome. Sprout Home also offers a lot of funky indoor decor items. These items range from pillows and bud vases to benches and tables. I usually stay away from the knick knacks and furniture because they're on the expensive/overpriced side. But the plants are great and the staff here are very helpful. I have a three plants that I purchased at Sprout Home several years ago. They continue to do well, thanks in part to the care advice that I've received from Sprout Home over the years.

Sprout Home is a really awesome garden center/home store. The garden center part was laid out like an actual garden. I much prefer this method of plant placement than the rows of identical plants you usually see at less inspired garden centers. The plants are laid out in a way that they might actually be in your backyard, which is nice, cause it gives you ideas about which plants work well together. Not that I have a backyard, but if I did, it would probably look something like Sprout. They have a nice selection of interesting and indigenous plants, plus some annuals and vegetables. Inside they have a great selection of houseplants. The majority of them were cacti and succulents, which is fine by me, because they're easy to grow, and not a lot of maintenance. They also have a pretty interesting selection of houseware stuff as well. The main reason that I went there was because they were one of the only stores in the area that sold Blik wall graphics, and I wanted to check them out. They had a nice selection, along w/ candles, plates and other fun and funky stuff that you never knew that you needed for your house. The staff was pretty helpful as well, which is always a plus in my book!

my garden away from my garden, a lovely, tranquil place to spend your last dollar on a plant that you will (if you're like me) appreciate every single day. yes they have lots of dishes and cards and knick knacks, too - but i don't go for that. for me it's all about the foliage. also, they offer membership to a weekly organic produce service from a local co-op. yummy vegetables and well-priced. you might not notice they also have an upstairs garden with lots of beautiful trees. lastly, their extremely friendly service can't be beat. they even let me borrow their little dolly when i buy too much to carry but i don't want to drive - bonus!

good selection of plants, pots, books, and home decor. variety of plants is also great. on the pricey side. i wish that the staff had been more helpful... i don't like when staff badgers you while i am shopping, but if i ask a question i appreciate some guidance. maybe i went on a bad day. i asked a few questions and they didn't make much of an effort to help me find what i was looking for...
i'll go back for supplies etc but i'll be sure to know what i want.
