A friend of mine lives in Chelsea and she alerted me to the mani-pedi for $20 special (only for the grand opening, they say). So we figure this is a great way to start a long weekend.
Except not. My pedicurist didn't speak much, if any, English, so when I told her that I was exceptionally ticklish in my instep she had to call over another woman to translate. Hey, all I wanted to do was not kick her in the face when she used the pumice! And maybe it was because of that comment that she was really light with it and thus ineffective. But then again, she also applied the nail polish in such a slapdash manner that she was constantly cleaning the edges with remover. (Oddly enough, my toes have felt weird ever since.) The manicure wasn't much better (She oddly shaped a couple of nails.) so I'd say skip this place for sure.

This is the nail salon next to Dunkin Donuts on 14th st bet 7th and 8th ave. There is a big sign outside the store that says $20 special for a mani/pedi- don't be fooled! This is by far the absolute worst mani/pedi I have ever gotten. Not only is the place dirty and dusty but the tools that they were using were rusty and the ceramic pink nail file she used was turning brown! Also I didn't notice this until I left the salon but all my nail polish started bubbling. I should have known that would happen- a woman who had gotten her nails done right before me was complaining that it started bubbling and she made them do it again. Do not go there! I would recommend the Spa Belles & Bloomie Nails chain.

See, I walked into the new Spring Sun Nail Salon for their $20 mani-pedi grand opening special, not to be insulted during my manicure by being asking if I wanted to get my upper lip waxed. For the record: nothing needs to be done there, THANKS!
There is no one person in charge in this salon and the service was mediocre: it's been 4 hours since I left the salon and I'm already taking the polish off of my hands b/c of the poorly done job. Nail polish streaks, ill treated cuticles...I won't be returning for any kind of services, mani-pedi or WAX.
