I had hummus to go once and loved it and then went for dinner.  I love the smell of rice which is exactly what overcomes you when you walk in but at the same time I said, "It smells so good!" my friend said "Ew." so I guess that just depends on the person.

We got the hummus again and it was not the way I remembered it.  Very nutty.  Too nutty.  I dont know how else to explain it.  When the waiter asked if we were finished and said we didnt like it, he just took it.  I dont expect a refund but at least a "thats too bad".  Maybe he didnt hear us?

Then I got the almond-veggie-cheddar burger with a side of the wasabi fries, and friends split the roasted lamb sandwich and all was good with the world again.  The burger was amazing.  It was different and just wow.  I would probably not considered going back if it wasnt for this burger.

Why, oh why did you have to go and ruin my brunch, Spring Natural?

Your bussers ignored me for ten minutes and when I finally got the attention of one, he practically made me beg for water, gesturing to my server (who was busy) and asking me to wait for him.  I know, I know I was waiting for one other person, but I was mighty parched.  I was thankful he finally relented and fetched a couple of glasses since I was practically about to faint from dehydration.

And, look, I know I'm picky about my eggs, but for crying out loud, your poached eggs had barely a drop of yolk to offer between the two of them and if poached eggs don't ooze golden goodness what's the damn point anyway!  None.  Yes, it was nice of you to offer me broccoli instead of spinach in my Eggs Florentine, since you were out of it, but broccoli rabe?  Broccoli RABE? It's bitter!  I hate it!  I thought you were going to give me actual broccoli or I would've just gotten the Challah French Toast in the first.  It's a wonder you were out of Spinach anyhow, seeing as, by the looks of it, your brunch menu changes every weekend and if you're low on Spinach then why the hell would you go and put it on the brunch menu?  And, also, the lukewarm fries were just an insult.  I mean, really?

So, you offered me something else.  That was nice of you, nice waiter!  You were a very nice waiter and I enjoyed the atmosphere of your restaurant an awful lot, with its big windows and green plants.  It reminded me a lot of the place I used to work in, which was also a natural foods restaurant.  The memories came flooding back and it's a good thing I had them to ponder while I waited those fifteen torturous minutes for my Challah French Toast, which arrived looking blackened on the outside and still a bit oozy with eggs inside.  I wanted the poached eggs to ooze, not the Challah!

You told me you were sending over a manager, nice waiter.  I didn't ask you to.  You offered.  It would've been nice of him to come by, would've been nice to hear a sorry.  Maybe you chould've offered me something to come back and try again; maybe this just wasn't the brunch to be eating at your restaurant, but it didn't really seem you wanted me back, so I won't be.  Good luck!

I don't get by people come here..

One hungry afternoon.. walked in for some brunch.. service was slow, that means don't ever come here when you are hungry.

I ordered an omelet.. let me just say worse omelet I've tasted.

I was very disappointed. i thought nature food taste better.. I guess not or maybe it's just the restaurant.

There's something about the large windows or the wooden seating at this restaurant that give it an earthy feel. Perhaps its the plants they have inside or the spacious feeling you have. The only things that are not spacious is the middle seatings. Grab a booth if you can! I've always liked the mini lights strung up on the trees outside the restaurant. It gives it a romantic whimsical.

They house a lot of organic foods and hormone-free poultry. The grilled calamari w dipping sauce is always a favorite. The salads are always refreshing. Desserts are delish especially that one time we had the lavender green tea ice cream.

I enjoy this place for a laid back brunch or a pleasant dinner with the significant other or a very small group. It gets pretty packed so its suggested to arrive early or reservations if they take it (I don't recall!).

This place gets 5 stars from me only because of the veggie burger.  I'm not a vegetarian but I dream about their veggie burger--by far the best I've ever had--it is so delicious/flavorful and moist and is best eaten with a fork and knife because it falls apart.  The service is good.

I'm quite taken aback by the amount of negative reviews for Spring Natural on here. While the service here can definitely be spotty, the food and the atmosphere make the trip worth it alone. They have a wide array of vegetarian/vegan selections as well as some of the best people watching in all of SoHo/Nolita thanks to their large paned windows. One final note, avoid the weekend rush here at all costs, if you don't want to be caught in the onslaught of tourists pushing and prodding there way up to the hostesses desk. Try Spring Natural on a quieter week day, preferably for lunch.

eats here are better than good and the variety helps give a new taste to each visit.  stopped by today for some caffeine & pumpkin pie that was very good indeed. love the big space and windows all around.  so, when everything else is packed at mealtimes and you just gotta eat NOW,  there should be a spot for you here.

Went here for lunch with my dad the other day.  They have quite an impressive number of vegetarian & vegan options and a comfortable, airy atmosphere.

I had the spring rolls with a chili-plum sauce (nicely crispy but a little on the oily side) and the grilled seitan appetizer (the seitan was chewy & tender but too charred-tasting, and would have been better served with some sauce instead of the watery marinating liquid).  The rustic fries were flavorful and not greasy, and my dad seemed to enjoy his lamb sandwich.  Not the most amazing meal, but I'd definitely go back to try some more dishes.

Spring Street Natural showed up several times while I was looking for Brunch spots at SoHo. Somehow it never got my attention enough. However, one day I was at SoHo with my girlfriends, and already suffering of food deprivation after our intense work looking for "that" dress. So, whatever I saw on the web, we need to go somewhere, It was kind of late and Spring Street Natural was right there

About 1 hour later I left thinking that sometimes I'd have to question my criteria . Spring street is a consistent brunch/lunch spot in several aspects. The ambiance is relaxing, very comfy and is a big place to go with a group or/and without reservations. That day it was pretty crowded but we got a table for 4.

The portions are huge, I eat very little but even pple eating normal amount could finish it. I order the Scrambled Tofu, coming with red onions, shiitakes, fresh thyme, curry, mesclun salad, seven-grain toast and oven roasted potatoes...it was delicious, seriously it was perfectly curry seasoned without to hide the tofu flavor and perfectly cooked; the look was totally as scramble eggs, but tasting as tofu, and this one was really good.. I loved it.  One of my friends ordered smoked turkey sandwich, served with 7 grain bread, which I think match very well with smoke meat, and very nicely presented. My other friends ordered a different sandwich and a egg dish. Don't remember exactly which ones but everyone said it was delicious.
.
The tea was on the house, english tea inside tanks where you can refill your cup.  The service was nice and friendly.

It was my first and haven't back there. But someone ask me last night about my favorites brunch places in the city and Spring Street natural come to mind very fast... that, mean.

I was going to give Spring Street Natural 4 stars, but then I thought why - it never disappoints!  Obviously (and luckily) it's not in the price range as some of the restaurants in NYC that typically garner 5 stars, but the lunch always hits the spot.

Conveniently located in Soho and right by the 6 train, this is a favorite lunch spot for myself and for friends of mine that work in the area.  They offer free green tea and their menu is extensive, with no shortage of healthy options (yay!).  The south west salad and the tuna nicoise salad have been favorites of mine, but the taco salad or the tofu stirfry have all gotten great reviews as well.  It's usually bustling but rarely a wait, and every server has always been very nice and attentive.

Did I mention the green tea?

I'm a fan. very solid 4 stars.

tasty veggie and fish options, fair prices, fantastic drinks, light-filled space, attentive service and fresh food.

faves are the salmon salad, tofu scramble, sauteed green of the day. there's a little something for everyone here, it's very dependable that way.

for me, the only "miss" is the seared tuna salad, I'd recommend getting your tuna fix elsewhere in the city...

great fun to walk around the 'hood after your meal though fittin into those gstars after eating a full meal might be tricky.

I've been coming here with my parents since I was a weeeeeee little one. Since I grew up vegetarian, my parents and I would always get that fabulous, nutty, chewy brown rice with lightly cooked snow peas and green beans and carrots and peppers and what-not. And tofu cheesecake for dessert. Yum.

Spring Street Natural is a New York City institution. It opened in 1973. It's been in the same spot, with those wide windows that allow sunshine to stream onto the old wooden tables and chairs at which patrons sit. And you know, nothing much has changed. Including the menu.

If you're a meat eater/not a healthy person, it can still be good: There are lots of non veggie options....SOUTH WESTERN GRILLED ORGANIC CHICKEN SALAD served on a bed of organic baby greens with sun dried cranberries, roasted corn, tamari roasted almonds and crumbled gorgonzola tossed with an orange-mirin vinaigrette...hmmmm? How does that sound? Or, you could even get (gasp!) the GRILLED GRASS-FED NEW YORK STRIP STEAK SANDWICH on toasted ciabatta with lime-chile mayonnaise and grilled onions; served with hand-cut French fries.

The best thing is that you really can't go wrong here. I inhaled my yellowfin tuna salad (see pictures on my blog). The tuna was rare, just as it should be; the beans had a refreshing crunch; the roasted red peppers were garlicy and faultlessly spiced. Shanika enjoyed her VEGETABLE-TOFU-CASHEW CROQUETTES served with tomato-carrot sauce, mango-jicama slaw and sautéed greens of the day...although they did taste a little bit like veggie meatloaf (not that veggie meatloaf is a bad thing).

Choosing dessert was hard. FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE TORTE with Coconut Gelato? WARM APPLE MANGO TART with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream? VANILLA PANNA COTTA with Raspberry White Wine Gelee and Raspberry Sauce? We settled on the WARM PEACH BLUEBERRY ALMOND CRISP with Raspberry Sorbet. The crumbly stuff on top (granola and maple-syrup roasted walnuts?) was sensational...the steaming roasted fruit below it was so rich it tasted buttery. Once again, Street Natural had worked its healthy, magical charm, and we left the healthy oasis full and satisfied, wholly nourished and ready for our next adventures.

Such a fabulous little lunch place in SoHo! I met my friend that works on Crosby Street and we took a quick jaunt down the block and stumbled upon Spring Street Natural and were blown away at how fresh and surprisingly delicious everything was! Usually, in tourist-infested SoHo you can't expect too much when it comes to delicious and affordable options, but SSN is a brilliant find.

Delicious summer salads, a fantastic bread basket with this sundried tomato and pumpkin loaf (so yummy!) and huge sandwiches with fresh cut, country style french fries.

Also, they have fresh hand squeezed juices. Watermelon juice, anyone?

Overall, a great experience. The only fault is they were understaffed and it took forever to order, but we weren't in any hurry so no extreme harm done but for a lunch crowd they should assume an in and out mentality of their guests.

I will def. be back!

Really disappointed.  The place looks nice, but the dining room was filled with more servers than patrons, and that should've tipped me off.  They have complimentary tea and bread, both of which were good.  We ordered their beet and goat cheese salad for our appetizer.  I ordered their fettuccine dish, at the recommendation of our server, and my date ordered their hanger steak sandwich.  The salad was okay, I have had better, but it was tasty.  As for the fettuccine, for the first time in my life, I sent back my dish.  So bland!  Our server Jenny was really nice about taking it off the bill, but I cannot see how they can charge $15 for a bland pasta dish with a few mushrooms.  My date and I then split his sandwich, which was tasty.  Altogether, I can't see myself returning and I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.

i used to stare at spring natural from my apt window, as i smoked a cig, sipped some wine, and contemplated ordering their sesame crusted yellowfin tuna steak for pick-up (they also deliver, and no, they never judged me for ordering delivery when i was lazy even though i literally lived across the street). plus they give you homemade bread and REAL butter for free even with takeout. score.

this is literally one of the best tuna dishes i have ever had, and i loved how all the components go together...the sauce, the wasabi mashed potatos, the crispy veg...my mouth is watering as we speak.

i dined in regularly too, despite the fact that the menu is kinda pricey. you pay for what you get. they have a DAILY menu that changes, as implied, every single day, in addition to their usual menu. this is more than the run of the mill daily specials- i mean, these dishes were always seasonal and interesting, and they weren't similar day to day (i used to stop by the window every day on my way to/from somewhere just to glance at the posted daily menu). even wine and cocktail specials.

brunch is excellent too, and in the warmer months you can do your damnedest to score an outdoor table. i heart their eggs and blood orange mimosas? scoop me up to heaven right now. service can be less than attentive when they're busy though...my glasses have remained empty for a long time, but the food is so great and the staff is really friendly, so it makes up for the slower pace. a great place to stop in soho when you need a break from shopping off the beaten path.

One of the worst Eggs Benedicts I've ever had.  A microscopic amount of hollandaise sauce (I would guess about 1-2 teaspoons) that literally couldn' t be tasted, on top of eggs that were overcooked (or sat under the heat lamp too long) and didn't have those nice runny yolks you want from eggs benedict.

My wife said her french toast was mediocre.

On the upside, the outdoor seating was nice, and the location is very convenient if you're shopping in SoHo.

I think that this place is a great vegetarian restaurant and would take my vegetarian friends here; however, I don't think it's 4 star worthy because I wouldn't make the trek with my non-vegetarian friends to eat there. Don't get me wrong, it's a great restaurant with a fabulous wait staff. Bottom line, it is definitely my favorite place in the city to get delicious vegetarian food. But is it excitably delicious? No.

I struggled with rating this a 3 or 4 only because it's adorable, the food is pretty good and for me the location is fantastic (you step out of the subway and into your seat).  However the sub par service soured my mood.

I think this is an ideal brunch spot for a party of 4, especially in the weather now where you can get a seat on the patio and people watch your hearts out.  The selection of organic drinks and foods is pretty diverse and from what I gather they have one of the best veggie burgers in town.  I opted for french toast with chicken sausage and a side of eggs.  All amazing but apparently getting whipped cream would require an act of god since 'the dessert cart was out'.

I look forward to going back and being wowed into adding the 4th star.

I met up with an old friend of mine and we made plans to reminisce, shop and peruse the many offerings of Soho on this past Sunday afternoon.  My friend being Vegan, we had a limited selection to choose from, but we landed at the front door of Spring St. Natural, anticipating great food and an equally enticing conversation.

The space itself is pretty amazing for NY - it's sprawling!  The place was packed and buzzing.  We were seated right away and ended up next to a sweet couple with two anxious 2 year olds.  They were "crying" from exhaustion, the parents said...they were cute babies, but I was so glad they weren't mine.

Anyways, despite the criers, laughers and talkers....our table was quite cozy and a conversation ensued.

I ordered the Brioche French Toast with fresh blueberries and strawberries and a cappuccino.  My friend, he ordered the Tofu "egg" Scramble with brown rice and a salad.  We had about 10 minutes or so of conversation, before our food arrived (my cappuccino arrived promptly! yay!).

What a beautiful sight!  My french toast was piled high with bright red strawberries and deep purple blueberries.  I dug in.  My friend, after one bite of his tofu, began salt and peppering (not a good sign usually, but then again it is vegan food...).  He really wasn't that happy with the scramble so I tried it as well and all I tasted was dry oregano.  I'm so happy to be a carnivore!

By the end of our meal, we'd covered the few years we hadn't seen each other and reminisced about our blooming love back in the days and what was happening romantically at this point in our lives - he had also eaten half of my French Toast :)

We split the bill (it was about 15 each after tax and tip) and headed out into reality for some shopping.

All in all, this was a great place to begin our day - it was low key and exciting, but not overly classy.  Picture an urban rustic diner built into your home and you're at Spring St. Natural.

I'd visit again on my own or with my friend - I think he'd order something else Vegan though!  It satisfied us both and made for a beautiful day.  Enjoy!

p.s. only bad thing was...the butter they serve you with the complimentary bread, had an eyelash in it and our waitress could have been a bit more cheery.

This place is great for people-watching...from inside instead of outside when the weather is good.  The place is really big and has an interesting clientele from soho shoppers to families to friends.  I went for brunch and the prices are really reasonable $10-15 an entree.  I had scrambled eggs, turkey, mushrooms, and onions.  It was decent, but nothing special.  The highlight for me was the short wait and blackberry lemonade.

Seems like a great place for drink when the weather is warm.  A decent option when other places are crowded...

The service is friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. Not the best brunch in the city or the area but will hit the spot if you are looking for something quick and easy.

The green line subway stop is very close to this restaurant.
I had an ice coffee and vege fried rice.  Ice coffee is so bland.
Vege fried rice did not have any flavor.

It is located in nice location and the inside looks like oasis. But I would not come back here to eat the food.

Amazing! One of the best brunches I have had. The portions were amazing! They presented us with an amazing basket of breakfast breads and loafs. The menu has a variety of flavors, their portions are amazingly sized, and the prices are great. The challah french toast was delicious, as well as the Mayan Eggs. I tried each of my friend's dishes and one was better than the next. The space is large, so annoying brunch lines are not the scene. Enjoy...it's a great one!

Dear Spring Street Naturals,

Oh-em-gee. Thankyouthankyouthankyou. No seriously. Thank you for that amazingly delicious, organic, and affordable omelet. No really, you don't understand - THANK YOU. I mean, when I saw your omelet of the day was filled with smoked salmon, scallions, sundried tomatoes and brie, I was impressed. And when you let me substitute goat cheese for the brie, I was excited. But when you brought out my omelet within 20 minutes and topped off the plate with some gorgeous homemade fries, my heart skipped a beat. Ugh, and when I bit into the omelet, I swear to you I died and went to heaven.

Spring Street Naturals, you have changed my life (or at least my Saturday afternoon). I assumed organic meant expensive, but with your extensive menu, you make organic accessible to everyone! I want to come back soon and try another dish while sitting in one of the window seats surrounded by your massive potted plants. Oooh gosh, everything about you is just lovely.

Adoringly,
Maiah J.

3 words: DEE-LISH-US!! Ok, so that's one word broken up.

I went here for dinner last night and had checked the menu online prior to arriving.  I already knew what I wanted when I sat down.  I ordered the Stuffed Acorn Squash.  Acorn squash has been one of my absolute favorite foods since I was a child and was so excited to actually see such deliciousness on a MENU! As an ENTREE no less!!  Ooohhh, I couldn't wait to try it.

The moment finally arrived when the dish was placed before me.  Oh my god....one bite....I was in heaven.  It's one of those moments when you know the next time you come back, you won't want to order any other dish except this one.  The food was fresh and oh so good.  Yummmm...this is now one of my favorite restaurants.

Also, the atmosphere was so inviting.  Can't wait to take a bunch of my girlfriends here for an evening of gossip, wine and good food.  There was also a three piece jazz band playing.

This restaurant is just....awesome.

Ate Brunch here with a friend last Sunday.  We went there on a lark as they are into all natural foods.

Being that I am bound and determined to find the best French Toast in NYC I of course ordered French Toast.  The presentation was promising, it was piled high with fresh fruit and lightly dusted with powered sugar.  The fruit tasted as good as it looked.  Unfortunately the French Toast wasn't as good, it was a bit crusty and not overly flavorful.  So for me the best French Toast in NYC is still at Markt.

We also had a few Mimosas which were actually quite nice.

Overall the food was not bad and the prices were reasonable.  I might be back to try some of their other food if I happen to be in the area just not their French Toast.

Get the ceaser with calamari. Period. Large. Croutons are disappointing, but the tender toobs of perfectly char grillled calamari more than make up for them.

Spring street natural is really not that great. Overpriced. Sub par service. AND WHY IS THAT BUTTER ALWAYS HARD AS A ROCK? Dude, just freaking heat my butter up! We have went there in large groups dozens of times, and we actually formulated a system of heating the butter up with a spoon over the candle. Not exactly what I'd like to be doing with my dinner.

The food is never anything to write home about, however, it is the redeeming quality of this restaurant. You might get 1 or 2 things on the menu that really shock you, and you'd be happy to go back to eat them.

I've been stuck on the Taco Salad for the last year, as I have been dragged there against my will, and forced to pick something to eat. The last time I ate it, I noticed how I didn't really feel well after eating it, so, I think that may have been my last time going at all.

Before that, I was all about the Stir-Fry with tempeh, however, the same thing happened, and I couldn't eat it anymore.

The hummus plate appetizer is decent. The calamari, is okay, but I have a really high standard for calamari, and I think that it's hard to do correctly, but whatever.

Now, the service in this place sucks, like almost ALL the time, and almost always sucks REALLY bad. As I understand it, it is a pooled house, which means it is like the Socialist style of tipping where all the waiters give their tips into the house and they are evenly divided at the end of the night (sometimes tipping people like hostesses, or other people who don't usually get tips). That may be why the service sucks so bad. Pooled houses are usually nicer restaurants than this one. They also add gratuity to bills, which is legal for large parties (and I've always been there with a large party) and I sometimes feel like, "really, we got charged 18% for you not doing anything right?".

I can't even fit a list of how many things I've been pissed about with servers at Spring Street Natural. Anything from my coke being diet, not getting my drink, not getting my food, getting my food late, getting my food cooked incorrectly, and getting up to get my server because I haven't seen their ass in like FOREVER.

The only reason that it's not 1 star is that the food just isn't 1 star food. The food is decent. I can be forced to eat there, if I'm the only one in a large group who objects, and it seems to always be able to accommodate a large group on a friday night (oh, suprise! I wonder why!)

Generally, this place pisses me the fuck off, and I don't want to yelp about it anymore. I'm too upset that I couldn't in my right mind give it 1 star, but, whatever.

FIX THAT ROCK HARD BUTTER! DAMN!

Went here for brunch today because the original restaurant we wanted to go to was not open until 12pm and we were hungry!
The food was nothing special and a little over priced. As some fellow yelpers have said below, the food is lacking in flavor. The B.F wanted a burger, on the menu their is a section called sandwiches and burgers but no burger with beef in sight.
The only thing that i thoroughly enjoyed was my mint limeade... soooo good, but it was $3.75 and i really wanted 2 more after i sucked it down in 2 seconds flat. Service was good.

-What's up with the weird pixelated broom sweeping lady?? Have you seen the add in the onion? On the menu they have the same image, they don't have anyone who works there that knows photoshop or how to use a camera?

Hit or Miss...I had the tofu-vegetable kebabs and they were terrible.  The veggies and tofu were charred (I don't know if you've ever tried charred tofu, but it's not at all pleasant), but not cooked at all.  The couscous was tasty, but was certainly not a redeeming factor.  My husband had the goat cheese ravioli and it was much better; very heavy, very savory dish.  No changing tables-not kid friendly.

HEADS UP! I'm not sure if they have a disgruntled worker in the kitchen or what's going on but I order dinner from this place at least once a week when I'm working late at the office. I get the same every time, the chopped salad. It is my favorite salad ever HOWEVER this past time I got it delivered I found a 3 inch long black curly hair in my salad as well as rotted corn.  I know, I was in disbelief as well. Out all places I would never expect it from Sprint St. Natural. I'm super bummed because this salad was a staple for me and now I'll never be able to order it again.
