Love this place for their simplicity combined with all their options. I usually come here to re-up on beans for the house and will occasionally get a cappuccino.
They sell:
Blue Bottle
Sight Glass
Intelligentsia
Stumptown
Ritual
Handsome
What more can you ask for? The barista's know their stuff too! -

Don't let the size of this place fool you!
Spring for Coffee is a no nonsense coffee shop that is a welcomed addition to a world filled with Starbucks and Coffee Bean.
I always judge how good a coffee shop is by the quality of their cappuccinos. Spring for Coffee doesn't disappoint. This place is really tiny so don't expect to sit down and relax, but that is the only fault that I see with this place.
I'll be back. -

Great coffee! Went with the Chemex of a Kenyan bean, and it was artful and tasty. It was so aromatic and delicious!
I was pleasantly surprised! -

They have almond milk. THere's a couple of peeps there that make such good coffee and a few that make ok/better than average. Prices are OK and they actually pay attention to and know their customers.
Need more space. Dunno how they would pull that off though. -

The best coffee on spring street. or anywhere around. yes, it's the size of a closet, though the baristas are talented, coffee tastes phenominal, and is strong enough to make you twitch, well, I ordered an extra shot americano, it was tasty.
Theyare always playing good tracks and displaying cool art. I'm quite glad that I support this local shop rather than a chain. The difference in quality is outstanding! -

Friendly service in a tiny, no nonsense coffee shop on Spring St. Limited seating, but coffee done as it should be.

This lovely small coffee shop serves up a great cup of joe. They use Stumptown, Intelligentsia, and Ritual beans for your pleasure. I was able to get a really good pour over and a pastry. They also sell the gadgets to make coffee at home. The staff is knowledgeable and know the proper methods to making a espresso, latte, pour over or what ever fancy's you at the moment.

Love this place! Hands down the best coffee I've had so far in DTLA. The space is small but they don't need to over compensate like Coffee Bar (who's coffee is mediocre at best). The guys here always know my order before I even get to the register, they are always super friendly and make my coffee taste exactly how I want it to. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because of how small it is and when it gets busy it takes a little while... But the coffee is worth the wait most days!

Excellent coffee and tea. I was impressed by the knowledge and care that was taken in preparing my drink. Not a great area in Downtown, but if you're there, then it's worth getting one of the finest cups of coffee or tea.

One of the best places in Downtown LA to get a coffee. Love the espresso, cappuccino and chai tea. Service is very friendly and fast. Near the Garment District. I usually park in the lot next door for $6 during the day but there are meters on the one way street. It's a tiny place but has a nice vibe and a few tables outside.

I moved to DTLA a little over a month ago and after weeks of trying out different coffee places for my daily, I've anointed Spring for Coffee. I'm usually a latte drinker, but they've turned me onto the Gibraltar, something I never discovered living under the espresso rock that is Boston. But the drinks are always made to perfection, very consistent, with perfectly pulled shots. The people that work there are really friendly and welcoming, and I love the morning dog parade. Spring for Coffee makes me spring down spring st. everyday. Yeah, I just wrote that.

An 8oz drip is $2. It goes up from there. The beans they choose for their hand-dripped artisan-style coffee...suck, most of the time. I've had a few of them, so far. Each time, I hope the bean is better, and each time I have been disappointed. For example, never ever get the Bolivian bean. I have a friend backing me up on that opinion, even. I drink GOOD coffee black. I will add flavor-maskers to crap coffee (i.e. cream and sweetener). Their drip coffee barely qualifies as able to be taken black. Having witnessed the girl in line before me this particular morning attempt to order tea -- just don't. Go elsewhere for tea (maybe Syrup, they have a bunch of green teas).
The guys behind the counter are cool. There is zippo standing room. There are only a handful of chairs outside. Come here with the expectation you are coming and immediately leaving with your coffee.
But, for the cost and (lack of) taste in their coffees, I'd rather go get Pike's Place from Starbucks (the only palatable bean there) -- at least they have decaf. -

Best coffee in town said other Yelpers?
Well I was in town and my hangover required some serious brew to make me functional for the day.
Holy crap did this place deliver. I started with a cappachino to take the edge off and it was flippen de-lic-iiiious. So much so that I went back for more.
Mocha with a leaf in the foam please! Oh my god I was rocking like 15 minutes after leaving from the caf + great mood only good coffee can bring me!
Love love loves it! -

Stopped by here real quick to pick up a cup of coffee. Their "drip" coffee was made in front of me on the spot and cost $3 flat. It was pretty good but had a slight hint of acidic sourness. The place was tiny, I don't think my car could fit in here. Workers were friendly & laid back. Worth a try, I'd come here over starbucks!

Spring for Coffee is a coffee lover's dream.
High quality coffee prepared super-consistently.
The owner hires great folks, and clearly trains for consistent product. My coffee tastes delicious no matter who made it.
Another huge plus? I love the smell and taste of coffee. This is the only coffee shop I know that can prepare flavored/sweetened coffee so delicately that the primary flavor is still COFFEE and not whatever syrup or flavor is added. This is why I love love love their caramel latte. It's not the syrup-fest you get at Starbucks or other chains (If you like syrupy-sweet, go elsewhere.) It's a perfect latte with a caramel tint.
Located within a half block of 4-5 other coffee shops, this is the standout. If they ever close or move or change in quality, I will actually cry.Listed in: Great Cheap Eats in Downtown…

Real small spot, which is great because it's completely unpretentious. Have had Stumptown, Intelligentsia, and Sight Glass coffees prepared by pour over here. Great coffee, reasonably priced, and the baristas are dedicated. Last I was here a barista was taking an Aeropress home to practice so he could brew it better for a customer the next day. I'm sold.

Hands down the best coffee you will find downtown. Also, the staff is friendly and down to earth. Also, they don't dress like Captain Hook's pirates (like some baristas on Spring St.)!

Out of all of the potential coffee-destinations along my street, Spring For Coffee is my go-to.
Along with being flat-out friendly, the staff knows their shit when it comes to coffee. When you stop in here, you are not getting burned beans or overly-sweetened drinks. At Spring For Coffee, you are guaranteed to receive a great experience!
Delicious coffee for city living.

Went there yesterday for the first time and my Americano blew me away. Coffee shop is the size of a closet; much like a demitasse. Baristas are cool and cute *wink, wink* Great pit stop if you're riding through on your bike. Bike parking right in front next to the cute pooches!

Friendly stuff, great coffee (LOVE my cappuccino, no need sugar, it was already sweet). And the price is fair. But I'm giving 4 stars, because they don't have enough tables outside. I wanted sit down at the table, but no tables were open. booo. But I'll be back for sure.

Review from Lovey O.

It's quite literally a hole in the wall, one hipster too many, and the deal breaker: too much water in the Americano. I get that Americanos are the ultimate joke as an espresso drink, but I'm American, it can't be helped. That said, my drink tasted like flavored milk after I added in the cream. I tried the chai tea latte. Interesting, it has a reddish tint, sweeter than I'd like, and not spicy enough.
The coffee selection that day was Intelligentsia and Ritual. I didn't loathe the Intelligentsia.
No line, but the one barista did take her sweet time making my drink. In fairness to her, she had like 2 feet of space to work with.
I parked a block down on Spring. I think it's $3 per hour, 1 or 2 hour(s) parking.Listed in: Coffee Culture

LOVE LOVE THE COFFEEE...& if that"s not enough comes along with a friendly and knowledgable staff. So glad i always wake up to their cup of cofffee. great place to catch up with your downtown neighbors...only reason for 4 star is not enough seating.
i suggest we show up on Sunday morning's w our beach chair. What better way to wake up...Spring for Coffee and watching the interesting happenings on spring street! -

There is nowhere to sit, the parking is terrible, but it is absolutely worth it! The coffee is amazing, by far the best in Los Angeles!

After seeing the good reviews online, I was dying to try this place.
When I finally got some time for a quick pick-me-up, I was pleasantly surprised to find ample street parking. However, it's expensive just like all of downtown! $3 for one hour for the meter :P There were also a lot of cop cars around, so be careful!
I picked up an ICED SOY VANILLA LATTE - wow, I wish this place was closer to work so I could grab it every morning! They make it in a jiffy too!
It goes down smooth, and my favorite part is that there's no burnt aftertaste. I must have downed it in a couple of minutes, and I have been craving it daily ever since.
It's a really, really small, quaint location, but the service is really down-to-earth and friendly.
I felt like a regular even though it was my first time there...or maybe that was wishful thinking :) Check it out! -

Seriously this is one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had!!!! I just stopped in because I was at The Underground Smoke Shop next door. The guys in here are quick and seem to like what they do. We have all become Starbucks drones myself included but there you are the next in line and here you are truly a valued customer. Stop in sometime it will be worth it!

I might've just found my holy-grail of coffee for downtown. It's very small, quaint and there's definitely enough boho-hipsters around the street to make people-watching interesting.
They have a unique coffee bean selection that I have never heard of before and take their cuppa joes seriously. You know you've walked into a coffee lab when you can choose 3 different methods to brew your cup... -

the best coffee in LA.
(thanks to their coffee beans that come from Portland & SF) (also, some from Intelligentsia, without the hassle of dealing with self-righteous scenesters)
expert baristas/baristos (sp?), with amazing knowledge and skills. also, friendly, patient and welcoming. (COMPLETELY unlike Pretensh-entsia in silver lake and venice)
for people who love coffee. raccoon tails not required. -
Review from Ciara G.
All it took was one sip of their delightful cappuccino for me to become a fan.
The secret to a good coffee drink is when the drink itself is immediately drinkable.
Pure coffee nirvana happened when I took a sip of my frothy vanilla latte. Besides the flavor and texture being perfect, it was also the perfect temperature. Immediate enjoyment happened and next thing you know I was done with my drink.
I NEVER finish my coffee drinks. All I could think about after my last sip as I stared at the bottom of my empty cup was damn I should have ordered a large.Listed in: Cup O Cup O Joe, DTLA and all its glory

This place actually has made the greatest cup of coffee I've ever had. Which definitely makes it the best spot in all of downtown (OR IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE) to get any coffee drink.
I've had great espressos or cappuccinos or mochas in many places, but the baristas didn't know squat about the coffee they were serving and the company didn't give a crap about the coffee beans they were roasting. AND any time it comes to just a simple damn good cup of black coffee...most places disappoint.
Spring for Coffee has a rotating selection which includes Stumptown, Ritual and (yes, sigh...still super good) Intelligentsia beans, which they grind JUST FOR YOU. The dudes who work there (one of them has a coffee bean tattoo) are total coffee geniuses and will describe the bouquet of a cup while having a sparkle in their eye. Anything they recommend is sure to give me a flavor boner.
If you want great coffee, get it from the people who are obsessed with it. And these guys definitely are. -
Review from Meg M.

These guys really know their coffee & tea, and will hand craft you a perfect beverage that brings out the best of each roast.
Even if you do not know what you want when you go in, they will figure it out for you. Perfect cup of happiness and comfort. -
Review from Brian B.
The smallest coffee shop I have ever seen, it is literally 30 square feet inside.
I am *NOT* a coffee drinker, my girlfriend is, so when I say she made me taste her concoction, I thought it was nasty, worse than Starbucks, but I am not really one to judge.
I did not care for the fact that they charge for things like ice? Really, extra for a iced coffee... whatever. Not like I will be going back (since I don't drink coffee) -
Review from Kathy W.
The shop is super small but there is a LOT of coffee in here. These people take their coffee seriously and you can tell they are very meticulous with each cup of coffee. I ordered the macchiato for $3.50. The coffee is served in a 8 fl oz cup and you add your own milk and sugar if necessary. The coffee is smooth and served at a good temperature. They also create some latte art.
Overall, a decent coffee to-go place. There is limited seating outside the store. -

Delicious.
Smooth.
Creamy.
Stumptown
12oz Soy Latte $3.50.
It's a tiny coffee shop for locals and if you're nearby & need/want the best coffee but not a place to linger, this is it! There are 2 tables outside and if your comfortable with the homeless or vagrants approaching you not only for money but for a chat, you will be in good company. -
Review from Maggie H.
so I've passed by Spring for Coffee quite a few times. There's always people there. They either go in and out with their doggies or they are chilling outside at the two tables chatting with a friend. The place itself looks minimalistic/artsy/hipsterish. It totally reminded me of Portland. I finally got a chance to come here and i was sooo surprised they serve Stumptown coffee (one of Portland's biggest coffee brews). I just came back from a trip to Portland so this really brought back some great memories. Prices aren't too expensive at all (cheaper than Starbucks) and they take credit card. I'm really glad i got a chance to try this place out, because i am definitely coming back! I wanna try their other kinds of coffees too. If you re ever around spring and 6th area come by for a cup!
recap:
1) Great selection of coffee brews
2) affordable prices
3) chill environment -

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see Blue Bottle AND Ritual being served here, as I thought they were only known and served in SF bay area (and you won't find both under the same roof!).
*Super convenient location to the Standard Hotel.
*Very quick and friendly service (everyone in LA is so friendly!).
*If you want an on-the-go breakfast I recommend the bacon+cheese roll and the choco croissant. -

Spring for Coffee serves as the only quality coffee shop in DTLA. Their variety of Stumptown, Blue Bottle and Ritual allows me to try something different every day. Besides the incredible coffee, the staff offers great conversation and I'm impressed at their expansive knowledge on all things coffee.
I have no interest in putting down any DTLA businesses, but if you're torn between Spring for Coffee and Coffee Bar, Spring is definitely where you'll find the better coffee. -
Review from Nadia M.
West Hollywood, CA
I was a big fan of Intelligentsia( and still am), but wait till you try this place out. It is a true hidden gem in the heart of DTLA. Of course, I found it through Yelp!!!
It is small hole in the wall place, but what a delicious coffee they serve!!!!!
So far Spring for Coffee is the only place I know that sells Hairbender coffee from Portland. I have heard from numerous sources that it is a great coffee brand, better than Intelligentsia.
Anyway, I always get either plain coffee(which tastes nothing plain at all) or cappuccino. It is so smooth and palatable.
Caveat--------- if you think that Starbucks coffee tastes great and that is what you think good coffee tastes like, do not bother going to Spring for Coffee. This place is definitely for coffee connoisseurs!!!!! 'nuf said.
P.S. Baristas are very friendly, helpful and definitely know what they are doing. -
Review from Moises A.

I've gotta support a shop that sells coffee with all the odds against them. Seriously, this place can easily and is easily overlooked if you're driving. My bathroom at home is bigger than this spot. And yet, they serve some of the best coffee I've ever had. The staff is so laid back, and not a stress in the world shows on their faces.
Maybe that's why people constantly enter and exit this place. Pretty straightforward coffee shop, but not your average Starbucks joint. Check them out. -
Review from Jin N.
Los Angeles, CA
I really can't wrap my head around Spring for Coffee and how they can even exist. Think about it. Tiny storefront. You can barely fit 3 people inside. Absolutely no parking. Hardly any seating. There's what.... two tiny tables outside? Some pastries but beyond that nothing else.
And yet... you will always see people streaming in and out, or lounging outside with their cup of coffee. I often go out of my way just to visit Spring for Coffee.
The primary reason why Spring for Coffee is doing well (hopefully continues) is because they provide one of the best coffee services in downtown Los Angeles. (That's alot to say considering there are some fantastic coffee stops within a short walk of Spring) It starts with the beans they carry to the highly proficient baristas behind the counter. There is no real messing around here. No bullshit unicorns or butterflies in your foam. They pull perfect espresso shot for a perfect cup of coffee.
My mouth sings whenever I get that beautiful americano.
The best coffee shops in this local area. One place worth stopping by if you want a perfect cup of joe. -
Review from Robert F.
This place is popular with the locals, lots of artist, hipster types smoking cigarettes outside with their dogs. For me, the coffee is too bitter, and I only drink espresso so I get the true flavor and subtleties. But that is what I am judging them on(usually Handsome roast?). The place is also too small to turn around in and there is no available seating. I think there is a much better option within walking distance that offers more space, seating, and better espresso, so I can only give 3 stars.
