Review from Micki M.
Forest Hills, NY
What's not to like about this place? The only thing I love more than beer, snacks, and reading is....well, nothing. So combine the three, and I'm sold. Charming place that is worth the trip. Great beer and book selection that can keep you occupied for hours. As if you need anything else, they also have a limited game selection including UNO (aka greatest card game ever created). If you ever find yourself in this area, make sure to stop in here.

Where else can you stop off for an Ale and grab a book off the bookshelf. Last week we were enjoying a fine Ale sitting next to a Hollywood 'A' actress, and no one even noticed. That is incognito.. Love it.
Now, I think the lighting is awful here. YOU NEED TO put dimmers and proper lights so you do not feel like you are in East Germany.. -

The Spotty Dog is so friendly, warm, welcoming and cozy on a fall or winter night. The beers and bartenders are lovely. I think one time I walked in on them doing some kind of experimental electronic music night, which while it's not really my thing, is welcome in Hudson where there needs to be more of a nightlife.
And their books? I always buy one. -

I wish there were more bookstore/bars in this world! $4 pints, snackies, nice selection of books, wonderfully relaxed atmosphere to lounge around.
The only thing I wish for: magazines... -

Books, Beer.. and good music (too) is usually being played at the bar.
Plus they have cheese plates and kinishes... The reason why I don't give it 5 stars si because the beer seelction is strong, but not great.. It doesn't have to be great for the 5 stars just closer to great. -

I like drinking and reading, even together. However, where the place falls short is not the book selection, or even the beer selection (although some choices are odious, such as the execrable Mother's Milk). It's the atmosphere... there's only one really good place to sit and read. everything else is bar stools or hard wooden chairs. Not exactly, precisely conducive to relaxing and reading. And the music choices? Amateurish and pretentious. Really, the best Beastie Boys song you could administer is "Intergalactic" What could I expect, though, of staff twenty years my junior? They wouldn't know the B-Boy Bouillabaisse if it was their phone's ringtone.
So, despite the bad, oft-time really bad music, and lack of great sitting spots, it's a nice idea. -

Great little place. Books are well organized and the Ale choice is nice. Vanilla Java Ale, my fave.

The only bad thing abut this place was having to leave! I wish there was a place like this in every town and city. They have a great selection of beers on tap along with enough books to keep you interested for hours. It has such a nice cozy and relaxed atmosphere, a perfect place to pass the hours with a friend or three. Can't say much more about the place, it's simple and works for me! Oh yeah, they have art supplies for sale in the back too in case you might be inspired from a night of drinking.

This is BY FAR the best combination bookstore-bar-art supply store I've ever been to. Better than....let me think now....um....ok it's the ONLY combination bookstore-bar-art supply store I've ever been to. But it's cozy, friendly, with a good range of beers on tap & a nice collection of current lit & a big children's section in a beautiful old (116 years - check their website for the history) building.

Local beer, local books and movies. Great selection of childrens books and art supplies in a warm inviting atmosphere. I think I have found my nirvana!

Usually I avoid Warren street, but I found this place on a summer afternoon after eating at Mexican Radio for the first time. I didn't even buy anything, but the idea of beer and books deserves four stars alone. The book selection was alright, I guess I expected more of a used book vibe. The bartender had about five local beers and a few magic hats, which would all make for a good drinking session. I eventually want to hit up this place and chill on a good beer while reading a new book.

It's a bookstore and a bar. How much better can life get, especially since there's really not much else to do in CoCo?

OK. Not to throw location around but I visited this place from Boston and realized what the Hub is truly missing: the Spotted Dog. While sipping a beer and listening to good jazz, I browsed an amazing and well thought out book selection. Bravo!

The first time I bought a book and a beer in a book store. The staff was very helpful.

Man, this place is a fantasy come true. Read, drink and nibble. What more could a soul ask for? And the vibes are friendly and warm. Careful: this place is addictive. Cannot understand other posters denying the place a 5th star. What's missing for them?
