Review from Talia G.
San Francisco, CA
This is a review for the Sports Basement Bicycle Department:
One word: FANTASTIC. When I bought my road bike off Craigslist, the previous owner recommended that have a detailed bike fitting from Pedro at the Presidio Sports Basement. The next day, I went in at about 10:30 am and, even though Pedro was already booked all day, he was extremely obliging and said he could squeeze me in at 12:15. He explained every adjustment during the fitting, helped me look for cycling shoes, and even took me outside to teach me how to ride with cycling shoes. It was above and beyond what I expected from someone who was clearly very busy. Since I didn't buy the bike from Sports Basement, the fitting was $75, and worth every penny. The bike feels totally different. Note: the fitting is free if you buy your bike from Sports Basement. -

This particular SportsBasement is HUGE. Seriously. I could probably browse their offerings for hours. As it was, we were limited in time and made a beeline for their selection of snowboarding hardware. Everything is organized so that the entire store feels really neat and clean-- not cluttered at all. They have a decent selection at a very competitive price. Staff members are SUPER friendly and knowledgeable. They were very patient helping J fit snowboarding boots to his wonky feet; they brought out several different pairs/sizes, different types of inserts and padding, etc. They also shared a bunch of tips for how to make the boots fit more comfortably.
This location is a bit out of the way, but I'll definitely be returning whenever I'm in the area. -

Sports Basement, oh how I love thee. If you are a weekend warrior, total sports nut or just want to give off the impression that you work out, this is the store for you!
Now that my workout routine has changed, my workout clothes needs have changed as well, and SB has stepped up to the challenge.
This store is huge and has everything you may need for hiking, biking, skiing, camping, swimming, running, yoga, soccer and a few other sports that I'm"m probably forgetting. The only sport they don't seem to have much for is golf.
I've been to the Potrero Hill and Sunnyvale stores but this is my preferred location. Why? FREE parking, and plenty of it, with a fantastic view of the GG Bridge. In addition, I think this store is the most organized and everything is on one level. For the clothes, they keep all the items from a particular brand grouped together, which helps a lot when I'm looking for my Brooks tops or my Nike shorts. I do love their very large selection of North Face jackets, their awesome bikinis (looks good and is sturdy enough to stay in place while engaging in something more active than flipping over on a towel) and their large selection of shoes - running, hiking, trail running, slippers, boots and sandals.
I've not been in any other sports store with a wider selection of nutritional supplements - gels, electrolyte tabs, protein powders, etc. I like that they break up some of the large boxes into individual packets to allow customers to try out a particular item, which is really important when using those items for a competition.
Have I mentioned the awesome prices? I'm"m bummed that the NF items aren't regularly discounted anymore but their sale prices are really good, especially for prior years' models of running shoes. In addition, if you present almost any membership card (gym, AAA, etc.) you will get 10% off your purchase. When they sponsor a race, they may offer larger discounts for the participants.
One thing, a lot of races run along Chrissy Field and thus by their store. Their employees are really cool for going all out and cheering runners on. From my experience I've seen them dressed up in costumes, ringing cow bells and hootin' and hollerin' their tails off. Thanks guys....it really helps to keep us going for the big hill to come.
Support a local business that cares about supporting its community. -
Review from Mike V.
Due to the limitations on the number of ski jackets I can carry to the dressing rooms (currently stands at 12 plus pants...far from the record I'm sure) we need to make multiple trips here, usually on back to back days.
Lately we were gearing up for the MUCH ANTICIPATED (can't believe it's January 20th) "20% off til it snows" sale.
Lombardi's may try to draw you in with their 20-50% but SB was already way cheaper anyway... so don't fall for it.
Also, the staff here really knows their stuff and are always roaming around the help.
Granted, they look like everyone else who's in here...but that's a good thing, right? Sales people who are indistinguishable from you, the customer?
And this is still the only place I go for waxing edging and tuning. And per the age-old custom, offering a six pack is always a good call.
Extra (6th Star) for never complaining about multiple people in the dressing room. I mean, what other item necessitates a "second opinion" on degree of 'hotness' (not to be confused with 'warmth') than ski pants for your lady? (PS: forget that baggy border crap, Northface ski bunny pants are where it's at... I can see the mogul runs now) ;-) ;-) -
Review from Vivian H.
I love Sports Basement. Aside from the occasional trips to REI (well, exclusively REI now that I live in Seattle), Sports Basement was where I used to get all of my hiking and camping gear.
I love North Face because they started in the Bay Area and the Half Dome inspired logo invokes some kind of nostalgia in me. Lame, I know. But I have 100% brand loyalty towards North Face. Sports Basement has low prices for North Face apparel, and the BF knows people who work here, so he always gets an extra 15% off! Awesome!
North Face hiking tank? Sports Basement.
NF hiking shorts and water resistant pants? Sports Basement
NF rain jacket and rain pants (to use as snow pants over base layers)? Sports Basement
NF beanie? Sports basement
Base layers? Sports Basement
Hiking poles? Sports Basement
Hiking day pack? SB!
Snowshoes? REI (whoops, how did that get in there?!)
Gaiters? SB!
Tent? SB!
Camp lantern? SB
Camping mats? SB, SB, SB.
Okay, you get the idea. The only thing REI has over this place is their generous return policy. They also have that 10% dividend thing, but the bf already saves 15% with the F&F at SB, so really, the best deals are at SB. At REI, the sales are sometimes good, but who wants to hunt in the sales rack when everything is already priced below MSRP at SB?
The worst part about SB is trying to explain to someone where it's located. "Um, you know the jogging path at Crissy Fields? Towards the end.. no not by Fort Mason.. closer to the bridge..but not quite at the end.. ehh forget it." -

Best place in the city to rent bikes.
Not only is this place the cheapest, it's also IMO the best strategic location to begin/end bike tour.
We paid $10 where other places would have been closer to $40.
Highly recommend if you plan a bike/city tour. -
Review from Albert L.
I'm a Northface addict, not because I'm Chinese and like the shade of black on my outerwear, but because they make good weather resistance products, especially when battling all San Francisco has to throw at ya!
Sports Basement is your one-stop shop for all your physical activity needs. Rainy season, snowboarding gear, track suits, hiking equipment, or just tryin' look sexy in some sporting-wear (I know you ladies are reading this!), it's all here! The only other shop that was more impressive was the REI flagship store in Seattle but EVERYTHING there was in full retail price.. ridiculous. But here at Sports Basement, get what you want, for only a fraction of the cost!
Have I been to the Berkeley Northface Outlet?
Of course! but the selection over there is terrible. It's an outlet for a reason and rummaging through boxes of miscellaneous sportswear is not my forte, and I don't fit XL and beyond. I don't have that problem at Sports Basement!
Come in, grab one of their nifty cardboard shopping carts, get what you need (for cheaper!), and be on with your merry way to tackle down the elements!
Thank you Sports Basement for also honoring military discounts. Rah! -

A trip to Crissy Field more often that not, concludes with a trip to Sports Basement.
It's the bees knees, folks!
Now let me clear something up. I'm by no means a big workout fiend. But I do appreciate all things sports. So even for people like me who don't live at the gym or have rippled muscles of glory from countless hours of exercising their egos -- this store is a treasure chest of everything you'd need/want when you're committed to your activity of choice (biking, running, yoga, snowboarding, looking cute, etc).
My biggest love here is (big surprise) the cozy winter gear. For a person like me who hates cold weather, they have a great selection of goods to keep you warm. Beanies, hoodies, sweaters, jackets, vests, socks, gloves, thermals, boots... score!
Well organized and huge, be prepared to spend at least close to an hour here just looking around. Help is available if you need it, but none of the sales people are pushy.
Be sure and check out their BPA free water bottles and energy bar selection up front. They sell the most amazing coconut & almond bars here. And now that snowboarding season is here, you can rent your boots/bindings/board here if you don't have your own. It'll save you a bundle!
10% off your purchase if you are a Costco/24 Hour Fitness member too! :-) -

I am specifically reviewing the Sports Basement in The Presidio, as I have not visited other locations. I have watched, with sadness, many cool, hip and stylish smaller athletic boutiques go out of business as a result of SB. You would think that in doing so, SB would snatch up their business and offer some of the higher quality, stylish yoga/pilates/any workout clothing that they obliterated. But no, it seems that SB would just as soon have you tie on a burlap sack with a rope and have you work out in this. So much boyish camo and turquoise and bad teenage pink! Pa-leez. I love the styling of Tyoga and some of the Alo line. But there is so little of it here.
I never understood the concept of "dressing down" when working out. Whether playing tennis, doing yoga or kickboxing - why not look hot and wear flattering and well styled pieces? SB is undoing this trend one bad tank top at a time. Please bring back the clothes that vanished when your giant stores took over the city...Sophisticated, age appropriate and beautiful yoga clothing for those who dont want to look like they just shopped at Target.
It took a long time for San Francisco to embrace fashion in street clothes, must we wait another 2 decades for the athletic wear to catch up...again??? -
Review from Casey S.
My friends and I decided that it was finally time to bike the Golden Gate Bridge! Many of us have lived in the Bay Area for several years and have just never gotten around to it.
My boyfriend and I were lacking bikes so I called around a bit to see who had the best prices in town. Sports Basement in the Presidio beat the competitors by anywhere from $15 -$25. A half day rental at Sports Basement is $10 per bike, a full day $20 per bike. They also have a huge parking lot right there so you don't have to worry about your car all day while you go off on your adventure. Locks and helmets along with utility bags are included.
The bikes were in great working order. My friends and I had a blast biking the bridge and then returning on the Sausalito Ferry. I'm not sure how it happened because I know that we were gone more than three hours, but they only charged us $10 per bike.
Definitely the best place to rent bikes or bicycles in San Francisco! -

Went here to buy rock-climbing shoes with a friend and this places was PACKED. Really large selection and they also offer bikes to rent by the hour or for the day. If you're going up to the snow they also have a good selection of ski and snowboarding gear for good prices

First of all, I literately created this yelp account to write this comment. That's how awesome Sports Basement is....
Best customer service ever, and I work in 1 of the major companies that is very well know for its customer service!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a Lib Tech attack banana snowboard on sports basement website 3 days ago. I called them 2 days ago in the morning to make sure the board has been sent out. Since I placed the order after 12pm, the order was not in process yet. Instead, the person helped me place another order so that they can ship it out right away. Yesterday, I called again to see what the status of the shipping is. Sports basement told me that if I don't get the board yesterday, they will remove the shipping cost (I had overnight shipping). On the side note, Seattle is currently snowing, and whenever Seattle snows, the entire city just shut down (sadly). Anyway, I didn't get my board yesterday, so they removed the shipping cost for me ($25). ALSO, I just noticed they have the promotion on their site, so I called in about 2 hours ago, and without any question asked, they applied the promotion on board right away.
The call wait time was 0 second for all the calls I placed. I was never put on hold the entire time. They were extremely helpful and friendly. I talked to David, Amy, and forgot the name of the 3rd person :)
Can you possibly get any better customer service than this? -

This is the most exciting place to shop at when they have a big sale. I am sucker for discounts and I can assure you I have had some super amazing times here.
I'll give you an example of how awesome it is: I found a columbus jacket here for about $20. Try to say no to that kind of a deal! -

This is one of the places I shop at the most. If you have read my horrible shopping experience and strong dislike for Mikes Bikes, then you know that I am a fan of supporting awesome sporting stores. Sports basement is a one stop shop for most triathletes. In the 6 years that I have been competing in tris and doing centuries, I have probably spent more money here than any other store. I also buy lots of backpacking gear and snowboarding stuff every season.
Why not 5 stars? The size is great for the multi-sport loving person, but because they don't specialize in just one thing, the people working there are not always the best in the biz in giving recommendations. Yes, most of them have some hobbies and compete in something, but I will only buy a bike from a local bike shop (NOT MIKES BIKES). I will also only buy running shoes from a special running only store. I will however buy all sorts of accessories from here and clothes. Lots and lots of clothes.
I love the fact that they have community events and they utilize the space for all sorts of local tri clubs, fundraising groups and random speakers. They have reasonable prices and a great selection of stuff. I really don't know what my life would be like without this store.
This place is also my constant water stop. Thank you for always have a cold water fountain ready for us sweaty people. -

Even though I haven't been to the actual store, I always order their products online. Free shipping and returns! Perfect! If I don't like i product, I can just return it. I lost one of my receipts and I emailed them about my issue, and they emailed me back with what to do and everything within the next day. Everything is at such a good price, and I always buy my North Face jackets from here, I own three ^__^ yay, thanks SB.

LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP
(3 stars)
Hit or Miss. There's alot of selection but never what I'm looking for...
Today I came here looking for 138 Burton snowboard, SPIbelt for triathlon/marathon, and a wetsuit. The staff here seems pretty knowledgable about the sports equipment and they are/can be very helpful. Snowboard guy was trying to tell me there is no 138 based on the boards details on the back. Okay, i get it maybe not in that model of board but there definately is a 138 Burton board out there, its just THEY don't have it in stock and tried coaxing me into a 140/142 Burton board. Thanks but no thanks, I'm specifically looking for 138 - i have my heart set on it for over a year now and I do know what's best for me when snowboarding. Have some endurance events coming up and was looking for a belt to carry my car-key and some cash in when running, they didnt have the type of belt i was looking for. However, staff mentioned SPIbelt and likely coming in during spring. Spring is too late and need it within the coming months. Wetsuit, they had alot of wetsuits but not the kind that I'm looking for. I'm determined to do a triathlon in San Diego in '12 and need a Spring wetsuit, the ones out were the fullbody ones. I get it, it is winter right now but if they can be selling swim suits, they sure can sell spring wet suits.
Will I be back? Hit or miss, there are times i leave with something and there are times i leave with nothing. Likely to be back... as usual.
Until the next review... -

The Sports Basement lacks charm and service. The place is huge and it's hard to find what you're looking for. No one will ever offer to help you because there never is anyone on the floor. That said, they have decent selection and OK prices, plus they offer discounts for pretty much everyone. The store is unpretentious without any refinement. Wish I could give it three and half stars instead of four.

Review from Andrew W.
Came here looking for discounted snowboarding gear but I left empty-handed. Same thing happened the next time I came looking for a North Face jacket. And the last time I went was actually for Verizon Urban Challenge where my partner and I built a tent at the back of the store.
Positives. This store is huge and has a good selection of brands. The employees are knowledgeable and go out of their way to help their customers. The location is great and there is a huge parking lot. Just down the street is Planet Granite and House of Air. And on the other side is Fort Mason and Crissy Fields.
Unfortunately, the prices a still a bit too steep for me. Even though the selection is limited, Sports Authority did have a better discount for my snowboard, binding, and shoes. And the North Face Outlet in Berkeley is my go to place for all items North Face.
What I recommend:
If you are from or just visiting SF, you have to visit this place for your sporting needs. -

Sports Basement has a little bit of everything. They cover pretty much anything outdoors or sports related. They even have casual clothing, shoes, and a good selection of bags and luggage.
Prices are generally a little lower than what you'll see at other comparable stores, but occasionally you'll find great bargains here. There are plenty of fitting rooms, lots of parking, and it gives you an excuse to drive by Chrissy Field and those beautiful views of the Golden Gate. -

Knowledgeable friendly staff. I'm happy with all the recommendations on stuff I bought there.
They've helped me with a couple of low-cost (and free on one occasion) fixes for items I already had.
Great prices on XC rentals.
I am a free-Sports-Basement-Sunday-yoga mooch. (But it works, I've ended up buying a pass at the studio from which one of the teachers gave a free class at SB.) -

Great selection of athletic and outdoor gear. REI+Dick's Sporting Goods and more. Timbuk2, Toms, North Face, Solomon, you name it, they have it. I've never seen such a product mix in my life. Moreover, they have almost every conceivable type of sports nutrition you can think of. All of this is offered at discounted prices. You are not paying MSRP for most of the stuff here. Shoes are 10-15% cheaper than what you would find at a specialty store.
BUT. The attitude in here stinks. No one approaches you and asks if you need help with anything. The employees must hate people or something. I rented a bike here today and the guy who "helped" me was totally unhelpful. He didn't give a shit about me and basically handed me a bike, scowled, and then sent me on my way. My other interactions with the employees ended in a similar fashion. It is like they want to get out of the store as fast as possible. WTF. -

Huge selection of almost of all out my outdoor activities at great prices.
It is like a more personal REI with better prices and a comparable if not larger selection of items
I like to rock climb, swim, do triathlons, snowboard, run and they have everything I could want for all of these activities and more.
Very helpful knowledgeable staff -

Dear Sports Basement & Mr. David Jones,
This is a very important review for me. In April 2009 I was gifted a hand-me-down Trek from my Aunt. I was anxious to get into road biking and eventually signed up for TNT to train for my first century. Fast forward 2 years later I've now completed a handful of century rides while putting thousands of miles on my heavy duty aluminum bike. After completing AMBBR this past June I decided that it was time for me to invest and upgrade to something lighter - faster - newer.
My search started at Pacific Bicycle where I took out 2 Scotts a Giant and an Orbea. Something about the multiple test rides didn't feel right as I took out one after the other and repeated hoping to find a fit. I left feeling like I was missing something both from a selection and a service standpoint.
Four days later I ended up at Sports Basement with Erin R. who was getting tri-bars fitted on her Giant. I stood infront of the women's specific bikes contemplating what the big difference really was between Cannondale, Felt, LOOK, Giant, Scott, Orbea, and so on. That's when DJ walked up. He asked if I was looking for bike....."me?" Little did he know that I had been more than just looking. More like dreaming and saving for the past 2 years in hopes that this moment would someday come.
It was the start of a beautiful friendship. DJ spent the next few hours answering my questions as I tried to wrap my head around different brands, prices, components, and feel. He recommended 2 different bikes for me to take out and the first was my LOOK 566 Shimano 105. As DJ got the other Cannondale ready on stand by I took the LOOK out for a test ride. The bond was instant. I finally had that "ah ha" moment I was looking for and it just felt right. When I got back to SB with a smile from ear to ear I told DJ that it might be the one.
A funny thing happened at that moment. Another girl walked in with the same exact bike to the repair shop. DJ confidently instructed me to go talk to her. I told this chick that I was looking for a bike and wanted to see how she felt about her LOOK. She confirmed that she tried 15 other bikes from boutique shops to SB and ultimately found herself between the LOOK and a Bianchi. Not only was the LOOK 1K less, but when she went up Mt. Diablo she felt the speed and the comfort of the LOOK to be incomparable. I had my answer.
I went back to DJ with excitement. We talked about the pros and cons and ultimately he kept my head level when deciding to move forward. As a sales woman I truly appreciated the way he sent me home that day telling me to do my research and to come back Sunday to ride one in my size (xs). Not only did he go above and beyond by educating me, but he made sure my bike got transfered in time for our Sunday appointment.
On Sunday 7/17 I spent another 3 hours with DJ in SB. I gave my new LOOK another test ride and gave the go to have DJ put this thing in my name. He sent my bike back asking them to give her some special attention. He then proceeded to help me customize the handle bars, etc to make the red really pop and sold me some sweet new white LOOK pedals. The other guys there were also super helpful in making sure that I was entertained and getting everything I needed to set up my dream bike.
Long story short I am now the proud owner of a brand new LOOK that's perfect and specific to me. It's everything that I've been hoping for since I first found out what "bike envy" really was. I want everyone to know how much of a part DJ played in making this possible for me and bar far one of the most positive experiences I've had making such a huge investment.
DJ, thank you thank you thank you.

What's not to love?
-Great prices
-Cover everything from kiddie sports to hardcore mountaineering
-Amazing selection
-Knowledgeable and informative staff who go out of their way for you
-If you buy a bike there you can take it to get checked/tuned anytime for free, no questions asked
-They donate time and resources to the local community
-10 percent off if you belong to any sort of local organization
-You can recycle anything there (from sports bar wrappers to propane canisters)
-Plus it's just fun to be there.
Just recently they special ordered something for me on rush (thanks to Ian and Jared), exchanged something for me which was past the exchange date, and impressed me (as usual) with their knowledge of the products and commitment to the customer.
I can't imagine how anyone would ever give Sports Basement any less than 5 stars. I'll go to REI if I need to, but I'll take Sports Basement any day. -

Definitely worth the trip to San Francisco to shop at what I call the "Costco" of Sports Clothing and gear.
At first I thought everything in store would be discounted but most of the stuff is full retail, but the things they have on sale are awesome. It's good stuff on sale, not a bunch of crap you have to rummage through. Plus I just found out that if you show your gym, AAA, or Costco membership you get 10% everything which is fantastic.
Prices for full priced items are standard. Selection for running, hiking, biking, yoga (women only) are very good. There isn't much for boxing or mma though. Still, my new favorite store to buy outdoor and running clothes. I love my new Brook's running jackets that were on sale for only $30! -

Large selection of everything sports and fitness related, but don't expect to get any educated help here unless you are in the bike department.
Came to buy a HRM here, asked the guy who was supposedly knowledgable about the topic which one I should get given the kind of activities I do, he spent 5 minutes reading out of the printout next to the display case for me. Thanks, but a lady at a jewelry and watch store knew more about HRMs and had more documentation on hand than this guy.
Came in to buy some stuff but forgot my wallet on my desk at the office across town, as soon as I walked in I asked a cashier if they accepted checks what was needed from me, he assured me they accepted checks. So I went in and spent 15 minutes picking out things I was going to buy, come to the register, pull out checkbook that I miraculously had in my backpack, write a check, sign it, and the cashier asks me for ID.
These are two days out of one week. People that work on the floor and at registers always look stoned, talk like they had just had Botox injected into their tongues, and pretty much just give no shit about anything but minutes passing.
FU. Making this otherwise good store very depressing.
The bike department here feels like its on a different block in a different part of town. It feels like you get transported to the Sports Basement on Bryant - good service and overall quite helpful. -

What's not to love? An unbeatable location right by the Presidio, a huge parking lot, friendly staff, and a huge selection of sports gear at discounted prices!
For the longest time I only heard of this place through coworkers, but now that I live out here in SF, I've gone here multiple times. One time, we just dropped by to get a frisbee to play with in the park. Another time, we took a jog, stopped by to get some running accessories, and then continued with our run.
I also noticed they have free classes/club gatherings throughout the week. I'll definitely be back on a regular basis! -

This place is a megacenter. There is everything you need to buy or rent for pretty much any sporting event. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere but it was amazing! Well worth the drive out there. the staff was really super helpful too. They know where absolutely everything is. This place is a find and a half!

Review from Alysha M.
The place is so huge, I literally got lost.
They sell all kinds of sports equipment, clothing, energy bars, and accessories! They even have rentals for bikes and those tiny, little go-cars I'd like to try one day.
Sports clothing is so expensive nowadays, but if you just look for the sales, you can get a pretty good deal compared to the regular prices.
I could literally spend all day in this store! An hour feels like a minute! -
Review from Eric B.
Gayle and I took a long walk awhile ago that started at the Ferry Building and ended in Sausalito. It was a great walk and bike traffic turned out to be a greater potential hazard than the cars. But along the way, our choice of socks became suspect and one of our water bottles sprung a leak. By chance, we came upon this Sports Basement at right time.
This Sports Basement is near Crissy Field and is located at the old Post Exchange Commissary at the Presidio. It's a huge facility and has much more selection than we had time to explore. We did look around a bit, but found what we needed and we were quickly on our way. -

Awesome location, fabulous selection of gear, college radio music playin' in the background, stoked punk-rock brilliant staff, free classes, good vibe.
Everything you need to play: disc golf, cycling, yoga, weights, mountaineering, skiing, boarding, swimming, dance, basketball, croquet, badminton, soccer, flag football, ultimate, running, hiking, camping, climbing, falling on your ass, and so on and so forth.
Killer Timbuk2 selection. Every flavor bar, gel, goo, tabs you could think of. Prices are a bit better than fair, too! This is THE place to get your rentals for ski season, too - excellent value. -

Like any other sporting goods megastore, except with a very SF feel (good selection of yoga stuff, staff is very friendly and willing to lend a hand). Very comprehensive selection of everything else, too.
You could get lost in here, and the prices aren't half bad either.
Not sure about this location, but I know you can get a gait analysis at the Potrero Hill location so you can find that perfect running shoe.
Nice. -

Note: This review is for the bike repair dept only!
STAY AWAY from this place. Over $200 later and 1 hr waiting for the bike and to pay AFTER they had left me a msg to tell me the bike was ready, I got back what was supposed to be my bike but was some conglomeration of efforts by drunken monkeys. The head set was loose (I crashed very soon after), the brake handles had been re-arranged badly, the gears were completely whacked, the front tire was not true (the pads rubbed) and God knows what else. It was the worst job I've ever seen. I'm going back to DD Cycles in SF or Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito for good. (see reviews for them by me, too) -

I've been a frequent shopper at the Sports Basement but today's trip pissed me off enough that I will never shop there again. As I was leaving the store with my Chrome bag 2 hoodlum looking employee's came up and stopped me as I was leaving and asked me if I had a receipt for my bag. I wouldn't have mind if they asked me nicely to check my bag but these 2 assholes came at me as if I stole my own bag. They clearly saw that I walked right past the security sensors with no problem but still came up to me.
Rude Employee: "Aye you got a receipt for that bag?"
Me: "Why the hell would I carry a receipt for a bag I bought months ago?"
My Friend: "Thats a ridiculous question"
Rude Employee: "No it ain't, you got a receipt"
Me: "Again, why would I carry a receipt around with me, who does that? You can look inside I have my stuff in here"
Rude Employee: "Oh"
To top if off, as my girlfriend walked up to the register to pay for her stuff the cashier asked her if she bought the jacket she WAS WEARING!! WTF?! Really? Are you kidding me? Do you want to smell it cause she's been running around in it all damn day. idiots! Do you want to see a receipt for the gum I'm chewing too?
If you like being harassed and accused of stealing stuff you walked into the store with, come down to the Sports Basement where customers are treated like thieves. -

Cesar is the BEST.
I think the store closes at 8:00...we came in at 7:53.
I hate us.
"Can I help you with anything?"
"Yes, I bought these bike shoes about a 1/2 hour ago at the Sports Basement on16th and they never even fit me to place the cleats. I have a BIG ride tomorrow and I'm a bit terrified."

"No problem, follow me."
Left feeling like a queen....and I LOVE feeling like a queen. -

Great place! I went to Sport Basement this past weekend to rent 3 road bikes from them, $40 per bike for one full day of riding (aka between store hrs). Each of us needed a 56cm road bike but they were currently out because of a tri going on that weekend, but they managed to find all of us 54cm bikes, we just had to raise the seats up a lot! little compromise but the bikes turned out great, road about 28 miles threw out the city, great time. At the end of our ride when I was time to pay Sports Basement gave us a 50% discount for each of us!! $20 for 5/6hrs of riding up and down the SF hills on really nice road bikes, can ask for anything better!!!
bottom line, great place, awesome people, great variety of sporting related products, definitely will go back again the next time in the area!!
