I had a fantastic experience here purchasing running shoes.
Accustomed to receiving no customer service at all from places like this, imagine my surprise when the young-looking shoe guy was able to answer questions I didn't even know I had about shoes, steering me to a $65 pair of Nikes that has served me well. If I remembered his name I'd email the management and gush.

8 floors big
great selection
staff friendly, but not always found
great location
Wow, 8 floors (though each floor is rather small) of stuff! That means you'll probably find what you're looking for. They really have practically everything, including a basement full of sales racks, where you may find basic apparel for very little money.
Minus a star for lack of service. And I'm not talking lack of general attention, I'm talking locked fitting rooms and having to wander around three different floors before spotting a single employee (and the one I found was in a rather foul mood).

This has to be the largest sporting goods store anywhere near the loop. It has 8 floors! This store has pretty much everything that you would expect to find at any Sports Authority. But there is 1 great thing this location has that others don't, the Bargain Basement. If you have some time to kill you can find some great deals on workout gear. When I was there 2 weeks ago there was a lot of snow gear in the basement. I don't believe the elevator goes down to the basement, so keep an eye out for the stairs located near the main checkout on the 1st floor.
I bought my all important extreme cold weather gear here (glove liners, sock liners, mid weight thermals). Actually, the times that I've shopped here I was looking for something to protect me from the bitter cold.

This large sporting goods emporium was formerly the famous Morrie Mages store. Recently Sports Authority took over for Sportmart at this prominent location. There are many floors served by old elevators, but I have bought many items here over the years. They have good selections of jackets and gym shoes among many other items. Check out the handprints of sports celebrities outside.

The Perfect Sports Store (for the location)
It may not be as huge as a Dick's Sporting Goods found in the 'burbs, but this place has pretty much everything the typical athletic person would want. I was suprised at their large selection, and extremely pleased with the pricing.

The perfect location for those of us who live in downtown! Its so nice to not have to drive 30 minutes to get to a big store like this!
Really nice, eye-cathcing Sports Authority location. There's lots to see at this place and there's a bunch of floors to check out. Coolest thing here is the wall of fame -- its fun to compare with the big athletes.
