Great store. Helpful, knowledgeable staff, but not overbearing. Only sells high quality foods, but not snobby about it like experienced at other locally-owned pet stores in the area. Other reviewers have mentioned high prices, but I don't think that the prices are too high given that it is locally owned (Nate, very nice, well informed, remembers customers) store by a person who is providing higher quality foods and supplies than available at the big box stores.
Shop here and help support a local guy who went out on a limb with a good idea!
When my dog Toshi comes in, he is treated extremely well. Nate (the owner) knows his name, and Charlie (Nate's dog) is always willing to play with Tosh. We get tons of free samples, and although the products are a little expensive, it is because they are all high quality!
Today, I went in looking for a specific food my vet suggested. They didn't have the food I was looking for, but Nate suggested some other similar ones. He didn't have samples of the food that was most similar, so he let me take the WHOLE BAG home for free to try and ask my vet about. That's about a 20 dollar value.
I love the neighborhood feel of this shop, the kindness of the staff (everyone, not just Nate), and the fact that they care about your DOG (pet), not just making some money.
Go to spoiled rotten pets!!! all of you!
This little pet store has a great variety of natural pet food and pet treats here. Staff has always been very helpful, and willing to suggest new products for your 4-legged friend!
I do have to say, the majority of the products here are for doggies, which works out perfect for me and Ryno! There are also a large section full of puppy (dog) toys for you and your pooch to browse through!
Love this pet store. Know most pet stores are the same food leashes ect but the owner (Nate) is very very helpful and is always there. He recommended a harness for my very poorly trained weim and it was fabulous! And he gave me a great price and told me to bring it back if it wasnt working. Great service and honesty that will keep me coming back....you should try it too!
We stopped in to get a treat for our dog we had to board while we were visiting Chicago (poor puppy!).
The store was about 3/4 dog stuff, and 1/4 cat stuff... Obviously they didn't have the huge selection a chain pet store would have, but they did have a good mix of different kinds of toys and treats.
The prices were also a little higher than what you would find at a chain store, but I would rather pay a little more to support the local guy.
Also, the little black and white dog is a total sweetheart : )
So apparently this place is under new ownership, and it has really turned things around. They may be small, but now they have much more popular toys and treats. The other day I was in a hurry and decided to give this place another try. The girl at the counter was pretty flaky, but really nice. I found my dog's food and dingo treats in a matter of seconds and I was on my way.
Well done, SRP.

My boyfriend and I went on a shopping excursion today for our new puppy, Lucy Jane. We decided to… Read more »
My dog, Nintendo, absolutely loves Spoiled Rotten Pets, and so do I. I go there for all my pet needs. The owner, Nate, is extremely nice and provides a level of customer service you cannot find at places like Petco.
Dear Spoiled Rotten Pets,
I went to your location with a friend because sadly, I don't have a pet. Your staff seemed knowledgable and I'm sure had the best intentions, but they kept forcing clothes on my friend's dog. How I see it, is giving a dog a coat is like giving an alligator false teeth, it's unnecessary. We went there for toys and treats and left with toys and treats. That is all.
Thanks.
A friend recommended that I check this place out because of how helpful and knowledgeable the owner is. I went there and right away all my questions were answered and I was shocked to find out how bad dog food is from commercial suppliers. My dog Lily got some free treats and some good, all natural food, and I got a lesson on what to feed her from now on.
I love this store, everyone is really helpful and friendly. The owner keeps his dog in the store and really loves pets. They have a good selection of dog food and tons of different treats.
Really neat botique pet shop - carry many different organic/healthful cat and dog foods, treats, supplies, etc.
Really super friendly staff - very helpful - free samples for my kitty kat!
They carry 'raw' foods too - haven't tried it yet, but they gave me some helpful brochures about the concept and what they carry...
My boyfriend and I stopped in here the other night. The wares seemed pretty standard for a pet boutique. I didn't see anything new or interesting. What will keep me from going back again was the sales girl. The poor thing was obviously very sick, but the sound of hacking and loogies was grossing me out. Stay home or keep it down, please.
Prior to the opening of this new store on Lincoln & Altgeld, we were walking our puppy & sneaking a peek behind the paper to see what it would be like inside.
BUSTED! The owners walked out. They were tremendously friendly, letting their kids play with our little boxer pup & giving us some free samples as a "preview" as well as some valuable tips.
The bf has been back & they've been great to him each time ... unfortunately, I haven't been able to actually go into the store yet cuz I'm always in a rush to get someplace (hence not giving 5 stars ... yet), but perhaps this weekend I'll swing in & see if they have any goodies for the little stockings above the fireplace. :)
EDIT: Finally went into the store. Owner is uber-friendly. They carry organic cat/dog food, a cute little Santa dog outfit (that almost came home with me), & lots of goodies. Going to try out the disposable dog gloves this week, I think (they look like little balloons!).
I agree with every review posted here: the owner and the selection of foods and treats offered at Spoiled Rotten Pets are great.
We walked into SRP because our 12 year old Vizla had been sick and our Vet, (Dr. Dupa) told us it wasn't the food we were giving him - just old age. He, the dog not the Vet, was suddenly incontinent, not eating, throwing up and had diarrhea. He (the dog not the Vet) had just started recovering - after several hundred in prescriptions. We had started giving him, the dog not the Vet, his favorite treats, chicken jerky, when the symptoms abruptly started again.
I was watching NBC news the day after the symptoms started, when NBC announced that Walmart had quietly pulled chicken jerky manufactured in China off their shelves - apparently dogs were getting sick - same symptoms as our dog. I checked EVERY treat we had in the house; incidentally, ALL purchased at Petsmart. Most, including Nylabone are manufactured in China (some in Mexico). We immediately stopped the chicken jerky and had a miracle cure! We then dumped EVERYTHING made in China as well as Dr. Dupa.
It was then we wandered into SRP. They recommended some foods including New Zealand Tripe by Tripett; Merrick dry and wet; and Evanger. And, they also tossed in some treats, on them.
Amazing results, Dimitri is like a new dog - hair loss stopped, he eats his darn bowl along with the food; incontinence stopped; no diarrhea; and the ladies - oh well, that's another story.
I'd give SRP 5 Stars EXCEPT their prices are out-of-line. $3.29 for a can of Tripett dog food can be had on-line at http://Sitstay.com for $1.89; ditto Evangers and Merrick. On the other hand these people are great, so when in need and unwilling to wait for shipping...
Oh yeah, the moral of this story: dog's don't do well on Chinese food.
I was wandering around lincoln park one day and i stumbled upon this neat little pet boutique. they have a really great product selection of food, toys, and treats for cats and dogs. The girl who helped me was friendly and really knew what she was talking about - I definitely will come back
today was my pup miko's 1 year old bday, me and his mom took him there to pick out some treats. The gentlemen that was working there was very very nice. He gave miko a bunch of free treats and even suggested him to try some. I will definitely come back here again. They have a cute doggie named Charlie in there too .
I had just adopted a cattle dog from a shelter and was having a hard time finding treats that she would eat. I went to Spoiled Rotten, told the owner about what I had given her and what her reactions were. After about 5 minutes, he put a bag of things together (some I bought, and some he gave to me for free) and told me to let him know which worked. They all worked. :)
Not sure why there are such negative reviews about this place--I went when it first opened and everyone was really nice, friendly to my dog--took pics of him for their wall, gave free samples. Hadn't been in awhile--then recently returned. Still the same. Rumor had it for awhile they were trying to open up a day care for dogs, but I don't think anything came of that. Does anyone know?
Spoiled Rotten Pets has the best treats. My parents' dogs love the venison treats. You can buy great food and goodies for your dog here that are healthy and good for them too. Great service.
