8 reviews for Splitsville
In my opinion, Splitsville is the only place that seems worthwhile. Granted I haven't been to every Channelside hot spot - but that mostly because nothing about Channelside in general really appeals to me.
Moving on!
The basic idea around Splitsville is to blend a lot of alcohol, with some bowling, and some popular music. When my friend first told me about the place I told her the concept sounded lame but I decided to check it out anyway. To my surprise, I actually had a very good time ( mostly due to the amount of booze I had). I even got tipsy enough to dance on the little (and I do mean LITTLE) dance floor.
There is nothing really speculator about the place, but just about every time I've gone I've had fun. I think that it may also have to do with the people I've gone with that made the experiences fun. Either way, with the right people Splitsville can be a fun place to chill out, get tispy, maybe do some drunk bowling - whatever suits your fancy!
On the outset, let me admit: I hate Channelside. There's nothing that wonderful about it; in fact, it's "Downtown Disney" from Orlando shoved into a location that should've been much more interesting.
I wonder if the initial meeting went like this:
"So, we have this untapped urban area, a place where we could incorporate aspects of land, sea, city life, and history. What should we put here?"
(Thoughtful pause.)
"A Bennigans! Wait! A Hooters!"
Ugh.
To make up for my bias, I'm giving Splitsville three stars instead of the two that I feel they deserve. And this is with my rating of one star for most of Channelside.
So:
Splitsville is the least boring of all the Channelside nightlife. It's got a fun, Swingers, old-school greaser vibe--I half expect actual bowling shirts and pompadours when I walk in. The decor is pretty fun and the bowling and pool are a great (if not ridiculously expensive) departure from the normal bar atmosphere of video screens, smoke, and delirious patrons. Somehow, there is a property of biology and physics that lets you drink MORE if you're actually doing something, like bowling, without getting sloppy drunk. Maybe that's worth the extra star.
The bartenders are professional, perfunctory, blase, and very restrained. You have to really overtip to get them out of that "I will only give you .75 ounces per shot and only two shots unless you order a $12 double" mentality. They might have specials, but I've never seen 'em.
The crowd is a mix of Hard Rock Casino implant-chic and Brandon Towne Center prozac-blotto. Half of the guys look like they'd rather be watching a race at home. Women clutch their purses and sip on fruity drinks with names.
The food is pretty good and only mildly greasy.
So, what I'm getting at: if you're forced to go to Channelside, or could possibly get others to pay for your drinks, go to Splitsville and you just might enjoy yourself, especially knowing that you've escaped a trip to Hooters.
(Just suppress the urge to run screaming into the bay.)
So I had to spend my birthday in Tampa (I know, boohoo, poor me), and since I didn't know the area very well, I depended on good ol' Yelpie to find me this place!
Located in this outdoor plaza type of mall that had a surprisingly large amount of people there, this place had everything I could ask for: bowling, food, drinks (and if I wanted, dancing, but I guess I didn't want because I didn't dance ha). Overall, it was a good time, and for a few hours, we bowled and ate and drank the night away before heading out to explore other parts of Tampa. Price wasn't too bad, food was decent, and the atmosphere was pretty fun on the Saturday night. If I'm ever back, I would definitely try to stop by here again.
Edit: I just realized this is my 100th review!! How exciting (the fact that it was my 100th, not the review itself.. sorry all)! Well, it is also part 1 of maybe 3 reviews that I will write about places in Tampa, so enjoy!
Went here while visiting Tampa. It was... interesting. Noticed that there were a lot of people, especially for a Monday night. Interesting.
Drank to our little hearts content, hello Raspberry Punch Bowl... the one floozy was the drink named, Super Bowl. It's like Grape Drink with a nasty after taste. Such a doozy considering the important name.
Manager was really nice, he took back the drink after everyone made the thizz face after the first sip.
Everyone seemed to like the bowling. Cute and fun atmosphere.
What i like to call upscale bowling. My friend and I came here a while back and it's so advanced for a bowling alley. The night life seems pretty cool too from the few times I've went there to pick up food to go. The food is pretty good and I have enjoyed sushi and also french fries on seperate occassions. Unfortunately for me, they seem to be 21+ when it comes to bowling at night with music.
So it's a good place if you have the money to shell out.
This place gets ony my nerves a lot. I like that there is no cover charge but they easily make that up with drink charges. I do like their bowling ball bowls though lol they will getcha drunk! The problem with this place is the set up. Like if you wanna dance the dance floor is about 15 feet by 20 feet which is very very small. I do hate Channelside though so when I show up there (always forced) I have a bad attitude to begin with so maybe this effects my review.
actually one of my more prefered places in channelside to hang out late night. music is good. crowd is fun. and while a little glammed out for bowling, still a good time.
to be honest, being a draw as a late night spot hang out is not the reason i like it so much. my #1 reason to love this place has got to be the chive french fries - SO Delicious! try 'em and you'll understand
This place is awesome. Bowling, bars, music, and most importantly FOOD! =) I was also very impressed with their food selection; the variety they have can satisfy any person in your groups cravings/tastebuds. The tuna in their crunchy ahi poke dip was delicious and fresh. Oh, and they also have good drinks that can be served in huge glass bowls. A little pricey, but good for sharing. You have to go there.
