I used to like this as a kid.

The last time I went it was pretty ghetto.

More and more people from the ghetto come here, not saying people from the ghetto or hood dont belong here, but its givig the people and place a bad rap.

I wouldnt take my wife, girlfriend here.
Maybe a hoodrat.

*CAUTION: This review may be slippery when wet.

John N splished and splashed, slipped and slided, hurtled, glided, rocketed, catapulted, and careened down slides, through water filled tubes and on roaring rapids all day.

It was glorious.

Ever since I was a little boy with an abnormally large head, I've made the trip out to Rivehead every summer to go here. Today being my tenth visit.

Other rides are great, and the lines are not too long if you get there on an early weekday morning. The best two are the new Dr. VonDark ride, and the classic Shotgun Falls, which allows me to do my classic matrix move in the air. The lazy river is a crowd pleaser as well.

I've been to both Disney water parks, and I prefer Splish Splash. Everything at Splish Splash seems cleaner, the Lazy River being the pinnacle. Plus Disney uses a strange chemical other than chlorine to disinfect the water and it makes you smell horrible.

Of course, like every water park, it has its drawbacks, the main one being the food situation. Honestly, bring a sandwich or something. Everything is overpriced, and its mostly fried. The dessert is worth it though, the ice cream sundaes are especially good. After all these years, the only place with pee marks is the greasy wave pool, stay away from it. As for the people, well, I've lived on LI all my life, im used to it.

If your looking for a day out on the Island, Splish Splash is definitely a viable option, especially if you want check out the Outlets afterwards.

Where do I even begin?  My gf had some people from Britain visiting and they wanted to see an American waterpark.  Now, before I get into everything that went wrong, I'll add a few tips to the ones already mentioned.

1)  If you must come here (which I don't recommend), go on a weekday.
2)  Buy yourself a pair of water shoes (shoes that you can wear while swimming) and use these instead of flip flops.  This way you don't have to walk around anywhere barefoot.  They have them for sale in the park at a 500 percent markup.
3)  Bring a cooler with food and drink and have a picnic in the parking lot.  The food there is pretty crappy and with prices such as 3 dollars for a regular bottle of water, you get the idea.
4)  Buy your tickets online.  You can avoid the lines at the front and save a little money.
5)  Do not let the water come in contact with your mouth if you can help it.  Further explanation will be provided.
6)  Learn CPR and make sure you and your kids know how to swim.

We did just about everything wrong that you could do.  We came on a Saturday along with the rest of Long Island apparently.  We came around 11 and thus got stuck at the back of the parking lot.  We wore flip flops which you essentially have to carry when you get on any of the slides, or you can leave them near the signs and hope that no one steals them.  During the weekend and especially in the afternoon, lines were at least an hour wait for a ride that lasts 5 seconds or less.  The reason for the 1 star rating was that even if we had done everything right, I'm not sure that I would have had a good time.

Now by this time, you're probably saying to yourself, "wow, this Anson guy sure is a douche and his standards are way too high."  But, I ask you, in what society is it ok for a kid to drop his pants and take a leak in the wave pool?  And that's the one kid that I saw.  I'm sure there were other perpetrators.  They crammed a lot of people into that wave pool.  If you like being groped by hairy dudes and women, then that wave pool is for you.  Now, maybe it's just me but I wouldn't trust any of the minimum wage lifeguards to save my life.  Granted, there were a few that were on the ball, but I would consider them the exception to the rule.  On the hurricane reef water slide, there were 4 or 5 kids who nearly drowned because they lied to the people at the top of the slide and said they could swim.  The people working there didn't do anything to organize the lines.  The lazy river became a free for all for rafts as everyone bunched up at the front of the line.  And as if to say we aren't done with you yet, when we exited the park, the parking lot was essentially a garbage dump.  Stay classy Long Island.

alas, not as fun as it used to be...

we came here on a sunday - BAD MOVE. it was so crowded that we were only able to go on a total of 5 rides and we were at the park from 10:30 am to 5pm - WTF. there was constant congestion in the lazy river and you were face to face with strangers, so it wasn't relaxing AT ALL.

the ticket price wasn't too bad compared to six flags, but prices do add up ($36.99/pp admission, $13/pp lunch, $12/parking). it was not as dirty as six flags, although one of the "lifeguards" dumped his leftover iced tea INTO the water slide - in front of everyone, WTF. the "lifeguards" looked like they were 12, and honestly, i don't think they give a sh*t about you if you drown.

if i ever come back here for nostalgia's sake, i would come on a week day in september...but only if i am desperate bc this experience was really not enjoyable at all...

i knew to expect a long drive there and back, long lines, overpriced and underwhelming fast food, bratty kids, tacky music, and the occasional "warm spot" in the pool water where some asshole had just taken a piss. these things come with the territory of a water park, and i was prepared to endure it all. i love water parks, and most of these things are a small price to pay (pee water warm spots are revolting though, gross and unacceptable).

what i did NOT expect where the Long Island meathead douche bag dudes who work there to leer and man handle the merchandise. and by merchandise, i mean my bare skin near the small of my back and on my ass. thanks, ogre, but i can sit down on the slide by myself and i do not need your assistance. what was even more irritating was receiving no form of help whatsoever when a younger, hotter, flirtier girl was in eye sight, causing me to get in the wrong line, cut about 45 people, and get screamed at by a lady who looked like kathy bates from fried green tomatoes. that was unnecessary.

rushing down a water slide into a pool of cold water is exhilarating, and reverts me back to childhood. and i don't know how the simplicity of a lazy river can be so fun, but it is. i could do that shit all day.

Well ok it's AFTER water park season, but I already know I will be back.
Sure it's overpriced, so many will have to skip pinkberry and starbucks for a few weeks (which also helps ready you for bikini season anyway)  to splurge.

And splurge you will. You'll splish and splash too.

It's pretty f'n far out in Lawn Giland, so it is a drive and a half. You might want to consider their one day LIRR/entrance combo. Beware though that the shuttle from Ronkonkoma (sp?) leaves only twice in the morning, and once in the evening, so don't miss it or you are screwed.

The location is good though, as it's not jam packed with every obnoxious schmuck from the tri-state area like Great Adventure. The crowds were amicable and mannerly, no matter the demographic, so it was nice to see people gettin along for once, likely due to the lack of the aforementioned.

The lockers are a bit of a rip-off, so if you drive, keep your suit under your clothes and strip down in  the lot when you get there (and yes when you leave, leave the suit on, get re-dressed and put a dry towel down on the seat) It's infinitely easier  than dressing and changing in, at best, semi-private rooms or out in the open.

You'll be walking barefoot and towelled for the most part (there are these tube-shaped towel-holders in front of every ride, so you can leave it there) but after an hour and several rides, it'll just be cold & wet. Like you. Go on the hotter days, and let the sun dry you off.

There is every possible combination of slides - covered, uncovered, ones with floatie dealies and ones without, easy ones, death defying ones, etc. So you can pick and choose as you wish. The distribution also helps keep the crowds down as much as possible, but likely some days they are long. The huge wave pool is awesome, hands down one of my favorites, along with lazy river. That's right, because I'm f'n lazy.

The food is average at best and a rip-off. If you can, keep food in a cooler (if you drove) and have a massive picnic just outside the grounds halfway through (and of course wait an hour after). The gas money you spent will definitely be less than a day of burgers fries, etc, for everyone. If you took the train/bus, try to sneak it in your locker (its a bit tough) and do the same. In either case, leave the macaroni salad at home.

I spent a good 7 hours there, and there was *maybe* one song on their piped in music playlist that was just ok. Everything else was great 80's music, the top shelf sh't. No hippity hop, no crunkin', no indie bands, and no Katy Perry version of "Lose your Love" - The Outfield version only!

Even though my wallet was wrung out like a soaked towel...still, 5 stars!

Aw this place brings back memories...and if it as good as it was back in the 90s, then go go go.

It opened in 1991, and just recently announced it will debut 7 more water rides in the next few years...so this place just keeps growing and growing.

I used to go here every summer as a kid...and always had a blast.

How can you have a bad time at a park full of water rides.

My favorites included:

The extremely long lazy river...where you can sit back and get shot by water at pretty much every turn.

Barrier reef, where you twist and turn in a dark tunnel...then you get shot out of said tunnel into a pool. Oh how many times did I get water up my nose and nearly drown. Yay.

Surf City Wave pool is always a good time...just watch out for little kids who seem to not have any parental supervision. I always like to play the game of "save the drowning kid." It makes for a fun afternoon.

They also have a kiddy section for parents to let the youngsters get soaked on numerous rides.

Well worth the trip to the Island...good times.

Splish Splash has been ranked the fifth best water park in the United States by the Travel Channel.

I guess I'm used to going to waterparks at Disney where the wave pools have GIANT waves and not little 2 foot "waves" and where the lazy rivers seem to go on for miles and miles since they go around the whole park.

The kiddie cove overall was ok, but there were teenagers running around and not really paying attention to the fact that there were toddlers and other small children around. The lifeguards should have kicked them out.

As with most things of this nature, it's a little expensive. It was $25 a person to get in and because you couldn't bring any food or drink in, the prices of the concessions were gouged to death (think movie theatre prices for drinks and what not).  It wasn't very crowded because it was a Monday and because there was a threat of rain, but I imagine that on the weekends, lines would be crazy since I did see lines at some of the rides.

Oh overpriced water park, how I love and hate you at the same time.  I have been here many, many times, since I was a child.  The prices are high, the lines are long, the rides are quick.  I think that sums it up.

Some of the rides are great, I have always had fun there, is it worth standing in the blistering sun, body to body, with smelly people and kids jacked up on sugar? I am not sure.  If the park is packed, it will take you all day to do each ride ONCE. I get a little grossed out here when I see people in their socks in the wave pool, and bandaids floating by - this is where I draw the line.

The most fun I ever had here was before school let out for the children, there were no lines! We got to go on everything as many times as we wanted, and we happened to pick a pretty hot day.  It was great.

I would give this more than 3 stars if I didn't get so damn frustrated waiting on line.

Water Park on Long Island.

We went out here one afternoon "just because".  It turned out to be a decent enough place but for me, it was just too darn crowded.  My guess is since it is the only water park in the area, the crowds probably never abate.

Crowds aside, they have enough attractions to keep you busy most of the day - if not actually on the water rides, you will spend most of your time on line waiting your turn.

The rides are cool and if you've been to a water park, well you know what to expect.  I kind of enjoyed the lazy river myself, mostly because I am lazy...

I give it 3 stars only because the food options totally sucked and there was no booze anywhere - and believe me, I looked hard.

Big parking lot.

Splish Splash is pretty fun, but on a hot day in the summer, the lines are comparable to those at Disney World. The rides are decent and some are even worth the wait. It gets really crowded, which can make keeping an eye on zealous kids rather difficult. However, my class went here on a class trip in elementary school and were pretty much left to our own devices as long as we stayed in groups of 3's and nothing horrible happened to anyone.

I suggest eating before hand or packing a lunch because the food prices are ridiculous. Also, try to go during the week, earlier in the morning, if you can because I'm sure that's the safest bet to avoid crowds.

Yeah, it does get crowded, so the lines get longer as the temperature goes up. Still fun to watch everyone enjoy themselves. Great memories.

This water park has the best rides of waterparks that I have been to so far, but I haven't been to them all yet, so can't say it's the best. My daredevil spouse loved the fast falling rides. Cliff Diver has an eight story drop, and Max Trax has a fifty foot straight drop. No, I didn't go there. Not a chance! I liked the smoother winding slides, even the faster raft tube rides. Having something to hold on to (raft tube handles) makes a difference for me. The more exciting tube rides are Alien Invasion and Dragon's Den. They are fast riding with spinning. Fun Fun Fun! There are other medium level and slow raft rides to enjoy. We planned our vacation to arrive not at a peak time thanks to the reviews warning of long lines, etc. We went while everyone else was out shopping for school clothes and supplies. It wasn't too bad.

One of the best water parks I've ever been to. Unfortunately, a lot of other people think so too, because the lines can get crazy during a nice day in the summer. Try for a cloudy day with a chance of rain during the weekday - you have a better chance of less lines and little kids to deal with.
