This is a great concept, and a cool little hang out. It's fun to play with all the dispensers and slowly get more and more buzzed as you play with all the different wines.

It's a little pricey, but a fun place to go with friends or a date.

Gentlemen, this would be a fantastic first-date venue - lots to do and try and if the conversation got slow, you could get up and refill your glass.

How has this place been open for 3 years and I just heard about it last week?! What the heck! This place is frickin awesome! If you are a beginner at wine or a lush, this is the spot. I love the fact that you can try whatever YOU want to try. They have a pretty good happy hour and needless to say a $10 card got me feeling pretty good :)  Definitely recommend checking it out.

Oops almost forgot, the food is pretty good too!

Fun place to go and check out some wines/chill for a while--I would definitely recommend it!

Place: Smallish, but lots of cozy couches and a long table in the back for larger parties, plus bar seating. I can see it getting busy though--perfect on a Wednesday, full but not crowded. I like the decor and the mood lighting--makes for an intimate feeling.

Service: Mostly self serve since you dispense your own wines, but the food came in a timely fashion and the waitress was super nice, helping me with a card problem--the machine wouldn't recognize it so we needed a new one.

Food: Baked brie was great! Served with soft bread, it was delicious (comes in a raspberry sauce with pecans)--definitely gonna try to recreate this at home. Also the mediterranean flatbread was yum, more than enough for 2 people. There is a pretty lengthy selection of wine ranging from 99 cents to $6 for a 1 oz splash, but be careful--some are way better than others! Trying the wine is definitely the fun part, but maybe not super cost effective--if you know what you want you can always order by glass/bottle ($5 corkage fee if you drink it there).

I had lots of fun trying the different wines--this is a great place to chat and grab drinks/food. Also, seems like happy hour is a steal and they have various deals every day. I'll be back for more splashing around!

A quaint spot to grab some vino and enjoy some light eats including flat bread pizza. I used a yelp deal (i.e., $20 for $40) to get my fill and thought that was a pretty sweat offering. I gotta admit though, their name says it all. I've tastings round the world, and when they mean "splash," they really mean just a splash.

Cute little bar that attracts a mainly female crowd.  Been here twice, once on a random Wednesday after work for happy hour and once around 8pm on a Friday night.  Both times were greatly enjoyable.

Atmosphere: dimly lit, small tables scattered about with a few comfy couch-like chairs in the front and a little bar area in the back.  They have a projector that plays random tv/movies in the back of the lounge. (once they were airing the local university b-ball game and the other they had on black-and-white Popeye cartoons... so it's really a crapshoot on what will be playing)

Service:  You order up at the bar and then they bring you your food and such so no awkward interaction with waitstaff.  The workers were all very nice and conscious of keeping a mellow atmosphere.  I ordered a vegan pizza and the worker made sure to inform me of all the options I had.  Our dishes were cleared in a timely fashion which was nice since the table space is rather limited.   Overall, very friendly and helpful.

Food:  I really like the food here.  I have tried most of the appetizers but my fav is probably the "Splackers."  Basically they are these delicious spiced crackers that come with a scrumptious raspberry-chipotle flavored cheese dip.  It is literally http://bomb.com! Also I greatly enjoy their flat bread pizzas - I got the Mediterranean one and instead of cheese got spinach and it was so effing delcious OMG I loved it.  And the prices are reasonable given I am a poor young adult.

Wine:  The wine is good esp since they have quite a selection I am confident a person can find something they enjoy.  They have the cool little machines that allow you to put money on a card and then use it to get little tastes of different wines.  This is fun but not so cost effective.  You can get wine by the glass which is better esp during happy hour.  O and they have pretty good sangria.

I would def recommend this place to my girlfriends and to women as a great place for a girls night out or happy hour celebration.

I like the idea of the place, just don't see the big picture. It sure beats driving ALL THE WAY up to Temecula, but you'd pay less for gas in doing so. Didn't make it for the happy hour, this is just off the tastings alone.
You get maybe a sip of wine for anywhere from $.99 to a shocking $5.00. BUT the upside is you can keep pushing the button to get your glass filled! Kinda Torn. Maybe I'll have to go back for happy hour?
Another fun tip, Games at the tables! i can get down on that!

Nice dimly lit wine bar in North Park.
The tasting concept is fun, but is not worth it.
Gets uncomfortably crowded after 9pm on Saturday night.

They have board games. But even having spent over 3 hours there, we did not get a chance to play one.

Cheese plates and flat breads are pretty decent.

I love Splash Wine Lounge.  It was a perfect place for a date for myself and my boyfriend (a wine drinker and a beer drinker that is interested in wine but has no idea what he likes).  Unlike most wine bars, the tasting at Splash is not done up at the bar one glass at a time.  Instead you purchase a card with any amount of money you'd like and insert the card into the corresponding vending machine with the wine you'd like to try.  The machine then pours a 1 ounce taste into your glass, which is a perfect way for someone to experience several different types of wine without feeling silly for not knowing what they like or what to expect.

After several tastes, my boyfriend and I found a bottle of wine that we both liked and we were able to purchase it and consume it there.  We also ordered dinner (the flat bread pizzas are really good) and sat down at one of the high top tables and played Rummikub for a couple of hours.  It was a very simple date and it's still one both of us talk about frequently because it was so much fun.  We'll definitely be returning to Spalsh sometime soon.

Hight tech wine tasting. Nice atmosphere with couches and small table seating. Definitely a place for a couple, a pair but anything more than 3 will not fit comfortably on a table.

Grab your own glass, and go for it. Ranges from $.99 to $6 for some, and it gives you the reasonable amount of 1oz or sometimes less =/ Machines seem to differ in some of the wine...weird.

They have happy hour for apps and such. Service is good here, self serve of course. Opens at 4P.

Wine bars are the ultimate first date destination. If you are meeting that fine ass honey off Match or Christian Mingle or Live Links for the first time, impress her by going to a wine bar with tasting machines. They are fun, interactive, and will eventually get you both drunk. Don't be scared- just hand the nice lady at the bar $40 and buy two cards. Then, let the games begin.

Splash is one of the few wine bars in town to offer such machines, along with reasonable prices and delicious flatbread pizzas. One pizza is more than enough for two people, though fat girl me ordered two because I couldn't make up my mind and figured pizza makes good leftovers.  The garden veggie was tangy and delightful, ricotta and spinach was ohhhhh foodgasmic. Love that salt, pepper, olive oil, thick slices of fresh ricotta cheeeeeese. Oh, you can buy machine dispensed tasters of olive oil here too. Score!

My only gripe is that this place gets really crowded and loud, which isn't the typical wine bar atmosphere. If you come on an off night, there are good happy hour deals and less Jersey- Shore birthday parties to dampen your wine snob mood.

Quaint lil wine bar. Really cute idea and a awesome idea for a 1st date or just a good time with friend. Been here a few times with some N. Park locs. You charge a card with cash and then you go around to the different station and sample any wine your lil wino heart desires. Great way for people new to the arena of wine to figure out their likes and dislikes. Tasty lil apps too...

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Splash yet!  I LOVE this place and come here a lot!!!  It is my favorite wine bar.  Period.  They have a large selection of wine hooked up to these machines that allow you to have a "splash" (or taste) of wine.  Here's what you do: you purchase a card with a certain amount of money loaded onto it, then insert this card into the machine to select which wine you wish to sample.

But wait!  There's more!  They also have fantastic food!  They have wonderful, unique, and tasty flatbread pizzas (they do take about 20 min to make, so be aware - but you hardly notice the time because you're so engrossed in the wine!), high quality cheese boards, and other amazing tapas-type food, such as Splackers (seasoned crackers with a raspberry chipotle dip), Crostinis (toasted bread topped with an spinach/artichoke/tomato deal), and my personal favorite the BAKED BRIE!!!  The baked brie is so delicious - it is this lovely warm, melted brie topped with a raspberry chipotle sauce and pecans.  It is my MUST HAVE.

I usually go on Tuesdays to take advantage of "Two Splash Tuesday" where the splashes are half off all night!  Here's what you do to get the most bang for your buck:  Show up early (normal happy hour goes 4-6pm daily) and order a glass or two of $3 happy hour wine and some food at happy hour prices - the cheese plate and select pizzas are 25% off at happy hour, then after happy hour, buy a $10 tasting card and go to town!  :)

The atmosphere at Splash is fantastic!  It's casual, yet trendy.  They have tables with barstools and also couches for you to lounge on.  They have games and MAD LIBS for you and your friends to amuse yourselves with, which is so fun!  And there's old movies or TV shows playing (on silent) on the TV at the bar - on Tuesdays, they usually play either "Gilligan's Island" or "I Love Lucy".

Splash is one of my all-time favorite places to go to unwind after work.  LOVE IT!!

    Great concept, poorly executed.

First the good - it's cool to go to a place with like 50 different wine selections that you can sample before you decide to purchase.  Staff is very friendly and the layout of the place is cool.  And the food looks fantastic.

Now the bad - the wine selection they have is pretty lame.  I spent $20 on the one ounce tastings and couldn't find one thing I like - and I like a ton of different wines.  The reds were overly warm, which might have contributed to the taste.  The cost for each ounce tasting seemed a bit overpriced.  $3.00 for an ounce for Syrah is a bit much.  Also, they only had two staff working at 10:00 on a Friday night, so when their tasting machine ate $6.00 off my card, it took me nearly 30 minutes in line to get the problem corrected.

For my money there are better wine bars in North Park.  I still might give this place another try for happy hour just for the food and a glass of wine.  The tasting concept is really cool, I just don't think the prices and selection help them here.

    10/15/2011 Purchased a Yelp Deal

I bought a yelp deal for Splash, and it was about to expire, so we finally checked it out last night.

I love the idea of tasting lots of different wines, with just a splash.  We got there around 7:30, and got a seat easily.  Within 20 minutes the place was much more crowded and it was standing room only.  I'm glad we already had a corner claimed.

We tasted a few different wines.  Some were really good, others not so much.  But, we only paid $2 for a taste, so that's okay.  There were at least 4 bottles that we wanted to try, where the button wasn't working.  It could have been user error, but since we were able to make the others work, I'm assuming it was the machine.

We also had the crunchy crostini, which was basically spinach dip on top of bread.  That said - it was delicious.  Some fresh chopped tomato on top was perfect.  It was a great little snack.  We also saw some of the flat bread pizzas go to other tables, and they looked great.  Next time we'll try one of these.

We found one wine we really liked, and were going to buy a bottle, but they were out of it.  That was a little disappointing, but I guess others liked it too.

My only complaint was how crowded it got, but that's not their fault.  And actually, it's probably a good thing.  It just means that I'll have to go at off hours.  I prefer a quieter, more relaxed scene.

Went for the first time with a couple friends last night, and loved the place!! It's a really great concept, the food was good and I got to try lots of wines. I'm pretty sure the value you're getting per "splash" of wine is really overpriced, but if you don't think about that and just focus on having fun and trying different wines (ranging from $0.99 - $9.00 per 1 oz. tasting)

I checked in on Yelp and unlocked a perk for 50% off their signature flatbread pizza - so it was only $6.00 (split with my friend it was $3.00 each, can't beat that and the pizza was really good!!) I arrived at 5:50pm so I made it just in time for their special deal where during Happy Hour you get an additional free $5.00 if you purchase $20.00 on your wine tasting card. I got to try everything I wanted to for that amount and ended the night with a glass of Happy Hour wine (Wednesday night so only $3.00 for the glass I had)

Overall, it wasn't too crowded (again, it was a Wednesday and I think Tues, Thurs and weekends get more crowded) and I was able to sit and relax and have a nice conversation with friends while trying different wines. I'm not a wine snob, so the selection was fine with me. I even ended up buying a bottle of dessert wine I had never had before because I fell in love with it!!

Parking is a bit of a bitch, so be prepared for parking further away and walking unless you get lucky and snag a spot in front of the restaurant (there's only 3 or so...) but that's how everything is in North Park!

This place has really cool automated wine and olive oil sample machines where you insert a pre-paid card and then choose which one you want dispensed.  We only tried the wines, and the sample size is one paltry ounce.

Some of the prices are pretty steep for that ounce of wine, but it's a great way to try out fine wines if you are in the market.  For example, we sampled Trentadue Chocolate Amore, a chocolate infused red dessert wine, and purchased a bottle; it's absolutely delectable!

The food is also very good, but the portions are small and the prices are slightly on the high side for what you get.  We ordered a little pizza for $12, a small spinach salad for $7, and some vegetables with hummus for $8.  You definitely won't leave feeling overly stuffed and bloated.

One thing that annoyed me a bit is that they have this huge, long table with lots of chairs right up against the chilled white wine and olive oil dispensers.  This path also leads to the restrooms.  They should make the seating smaller in that area to keep it clear, because it's very crowded and difficult to maneuver there.

Another peeve is that they won't give you the money back for the balance of your card, so you will be left with some odd change on it, like $0.37, for the rest of your life.

I like the warm ambiance with the brick walls, but remain bewildered and confused by the curtains to nowhere affixed to the walls.  There are many curtain rods with hanging curtains all over the place, but they are without windows.  Also, they had a projection screen television screen playing "I Love Lucy" with neither sound nor subtitles.  Why?  Are these for Zen meditation?  I guess once you are boozed up enough you stop wondering if such things make sense.

I like Wine Steals in Hillcrest and The Wine Cabana in Old Town better than Splash, but I would return to Splash during Happy Hour or during a special offer.

I like the premise of this place, just seems a little off. It's easy to blow $20 fast here, but the downside is you don't have someone explaining the different wines and giving you information. Seemed a little crowded in the white wine section. Overall, a unique experience, I don't think I would come here regularly.

I'm still in the process of refining my palette for wine and other spirits...and this is definitely the place to do it!  I've been a few times so I won't review one particular visit, just the concept on the whole.

Step 1 - get a debit card and load it up (I start with about $20)
    Step 2 - collect a wine glass
    Step 3 - pick a wine...be daring and bold...much like their Reds
Step 4 - insert card and depress the button
Step 5 - swirl the wine in the glass with your nose inserted, for the aroma (just like they do in the movie "Sideways")
Step 6 - sip and enjoy

*Repeat steps 3-6 for maximum pleasure*

Downside? Can get pretty loud on friday/saturday evenings between 7-9...(oh well! suck it up!)

Upside? variety and some pretty great and knowledgable staff

I will admit though, in the interest of being truthful, during my last visit - they mixed up my order and I didnt get my pepperoni flatbread pizza in a timely manner.

Consolation prize? Free cheese/bread/grapes tray. OMG. DIVIIIIINE!!! *cue harp and singing angels*

Winos unite! This place has you purchase a set amount on a wine card (that's just what I call it) and then you can sample different wines an ounce at a time in basically shots from the vending machines. Brilliant set up and a perfect way to get to sample a wide variety without the hassle and expense of buying bottles or even glasses (which can add up fast) one at a time. They also have good nibbler food like flatbread pizza, baked brie and other tapas syle snacks. The atmosphere is cozy, small, intimate. Definitely where to bring someone familiar, or someone you'd like to be familiar with, get it?

This place is coolio with a capital Cool.  I'm not well versed in wine bars, though I do drink lots of wine.  I like their little system of cash-cards and push-button wine tasting.  I carry my card in my wallet and sometimes stop in after a workout at the gym, which is right next door.  It's fun just to do a litle 1-oz. taste of something once in a while.

This place is awesome. It's definitely a great concept.

The wine selection are great. They also have olive/garlic oil splashes.

The interior design is also aesthetically pleasing. From the dark brown wood floor to the brick walls, it all blends very well.

For about $20, my friend and I got to sample about 8 different types of wine.

They also have interesting books on wine and board games. It's definitely a great place for a date.

Like everyone else I agree that it's a fun concept. I love wine and the ability to sample whatever you like is fun. It's like going to a vineyard and doing a wine tasting but without the snobby wine O tour guide with that funky mustache (true story).

I also got a Salami & Cheese plate for 17 dollars. We were all pretty underwhelmed by the plate. It wasn't a lot and really didn't strike us as being gourmet.

Overall it was a nice experience and worth the try. I think I still prefer my Wine Steals where I can sit and enjoy a deep cup of wine with an uninterrupted conversation.

I went to Splash and enjoyed it  quite a bit. The food was rather tasty, each of the pizzas where enjoyable. The group I was with had three different types. The Goat Cheese Pizza was my favorite, and the Happy Hour menu was fantastic as well.

I had a Tincho, it's a white wine cocktail with a bit of lime in it and another item added to it. Very refreshing and enjoyable. I'll look for more often in other venues.

The music and big screen TV Playing Classic Movies was a nice touch. Breakfast at Tiffany's was playing this evening. When the movie wasn't playing Jazz was in the back ground.

I'll be going back to Splash for a lot of different reasons.

I'm not a big drinker. And when it comes to wine I usually turn it down because they all taste bitter to me. Not sure if I'm a good wine critic because I just go for the sweet ones. Came here with some friends. I will admit trying something new and out of my comfort zone was still fun for me. I can't remember the register girl's name but she was very friendly. My flat bread was taking a little long so as an apology she put an extra $5 on my card. Very cool of her.

So basically this is just a way of testing a wide variety of wine through dispensers. $20 on a dispenser card is good enough for a glass. With my Yelp check in I was able to get a 10% off a flat bread pizza. Asked the girl at the register what was a good first time choice, "Spring Splash". That bad boy was gggrrreeeaaat! All veggie and seems healthy, but honestly you won't care.

Lighting dim, not to the point where you can't tell who you're talking to but enough to set a relaxed mood. Furnished with couches, high stool with tables, and even bar and stool. Great place to chill with your friends, or even a first time date spot.

It's a really fun concept, especially for a group of people, since not everyone's into the same types of wines.

It offends me and the yelp community that anyone could give this place anything less than 5 stars.  I've never been to, let alone heard of a wine lounge as fun as this place.  The servers are also really nice.  Food is great, wine is great.. and the music is at the perfect level.. not too loud.

My only surprise is that I have been twice now and there hasn't been a line out the door.. oh well, better for me!

    LOVE IT!
Had a great time celebrating my birthday at Splash. In fact, my guests had so much fun, one of them decided to celebrate her birthday in the same place the following weekend!
The staff was great! I got the front area reserved, and had a great time drinking and eating and mingling with my friends.

Most hopefully like the good wine in Splash - also I will only get better with age :)

My husband and I decided to have a destination wedding, but wanted to find a perfect spot to host a casual reception in San Diego. We stopped in to check it out, and we IMMEDIATELY knew it was perfect.

The food is delicious, fresh and is always changing. The wine selection and atmosphere is, of course, fun. But more than anything, the staff is so great and accommodating. All of our friends and family RAVED about our party. Traci, the owner, truly is the best. She was so patient with my bride brain and made all of the planning so easy - I didn't have to worry about a thing.

Whether you are just looking for a good date spot or are looking at renting out this space for a special event, you will be in great hands! We are so happy we found this place and will be going back for years and years! Thank you, Splash!

Here's the problem I forsee with the inevitable world-domination by Japanese robots that I imagine will go down in the next, oh I don't know... 3 to 4 years:

Robots are not swayed by vaginas.

You know that all the tough jobs are going to be taken by robo-bureaucrats. How am I supposed to get out of speeding tickets and paying full price for car repairs and going to jury duty when the person in charge isn't in a constant fight to touch a human vagina?

Robots don't care about sex! They don't even care about boobs or soft soft lady skin! All they care about is doing their job and drinking oil or whatever. BARF, GUYS.

So LOOK, Splash Wine Lounge. I liked you. You had some tasty wines. You even had comfy seating and a couple olive oils to try with delicious bread. But I flirted my goddamn hardest and your ROBOT BARTENDER STILL DIDN'T HOOK ME UP. One ounce pours all around the board, no matter how seductively I rubbed his spout. Not even a teeny-tiny bit extra! I mean, I understand if Robot-tender couldn't give me happy hour prices or make me a fancy shot with the intention of getting me drunk and taking advantage of me after closing, but this guy was just straight rude.

I even watched him pour a guy next to me the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF WINE. Talk about self-esteem issues.

Cool place, but I'll stick to bars where I can get free stuff in exchange for setting feminism back a few decades, thanks.

    I love this place!
What a great concept, a wine bar where you can pick and choose your own single pour with the easy convenience of a card.
Think of ATM WINE MACHINE type of fun. You get your card and withdraw your wine as you please.
Reasonably priced wine, i did not try their food and i went here on a wed afternoon, not busy, quiet and FREE parking. Ask the bartender for a voucher to use and you dont pay a cent for parking.

You should definitely check this place out. Amazing wine, fun engaging way to taste it, delish food and excellent service.
I was looking for a low tannin red for someone as a gift, I emailed 3 wine bars to ask if they had a wine that would fit my needs. the owner of Splash emailed me back right away and invited me in to taste some options. When I got there she was fast to help me and super nice.  It's been 4 days and I still haven't heard back from the other 2 wine bars. Splash for the win!
