Definitely the place to go with the kids on hot summer days. I bought a season pass the first day. The passes were inexpensive and we made up the cost in a week's time.
This is by no means Raging Waters or Soak City, but it is a super fun place to go with the kids, specially if you have little ones. For starters, it's a city facility and parking is FREE. All kids must wear life jackets, which they provide.
Pros: Plenty of lounge chairs, which can be easily found on weekdays (never had a problem); plenty of lifeguards; life jackets for kids; city facility.
Cons: Can't bring any outside food in. They check your bags before entering Buccaneer Bay, but this is with any water park.
Four stars solely based on the fact that you cannot bring your own food. Usually we will go, stay for 2 hours, and eat when we get home. Enjoy!
Awesome place to take kids. It's definitely smaller than the average water parks around socal, but its just perfect when you have to keep an eye on your little ones. There's ample amount of lounge chairs and you can reserve cabanas for parties. Can't bring food inside the "Buccaneer Bay" area except if you have bought them from the food stand. You can try sneaking them in, but some checkers really dig in to your bags..so just watch out. It gets a tad bit crowded at times, we usually go towards late afternoon prior to closing so we can get good parking and a good spot to lay our towels and stuff. It's very inexpensive, you get what you pay for since there's limited slides and things to do. Definitely not an ideal place for active teenagers that want to enjoy adventurous slides and rides.
I go here because I have a 1.5 year old son and he likes all the water sprays and shallow pool. The park mainly attracts families with small kids - no rowdy teenagers here. Can't bring outside food except bottled water. Lockers are available for $5.
I went here on a Saturday morning at 7:30 AM (I know that pretty early for most people...lol), to do some lap swimming. I haven't swam in about 3 years. The last time I saw was in a PE class in undergrad, and before the competitively in HS.
So when I moved down here, I was looking for a place to get back into the groove of swimming. The daily rate is $3, but you can get a 16 day pass for $40. I quickly did the math, and you save $8. This place is relatively new, so the facilities are nice. Before this I've always swam indoors (NorCal), so it was nice to swim with the sun rising.
The pool is well designed, and the gutters work well. The water is slightly salty, and actually feels pretty fast to swim in. It did tend to get more crowded around 9, when classes were starting and such. It's a great place to hang out; there lawns to just tan if you want, and they have a huge park for kids (Buccaneer Bay).
I was impressed by the facilities, and probably would come back and swim again. I've noticed the city facilities are affordable. The La Mirada Gymnasium has a annual membership of $35, one month at 24 Hour Fitness or Bally's is $35.

This place is great! It just opened in November 2007. It is a great place to take the kids. It is very inexpensive in comparison with larger water parks. $14/adult and $9/kid (ages 3 -12). It is across the street from Biola behind the Civic Center. They have 2 large pools an adult spa and a place called Buccaneer Bay. It houses 3 large water slides, a lazy river, and a kiddie area. It's a smaller scale water park, but it is totally worth it. There are plenty of lounge chairs that circle all of Buccaneer Bay. There is also an onsite snack stand. We were told that we couldn't bring food in but we snuck it in anyway. We didn't have any issues. Locker rentals are $10 but $6 of it is a deposit. They accept visa and mastercard. Parking BLOWS on swim meet days. I think it's worth another trip before the end of summer.
