2 reviews for Splash Down Dunes
I'll start with the CONs:
- park is slightly shabby - peeling paint, weeds, etc.
- park is understaffed - the racing slides and the "drop" slides weren't open at the same times either time we were there because the same guards were running both rides
- it's rather pricey - $25 for adults $20 for kids
- The pirate boat is weird and creepy. Creepy-bad, not creepy-fun Halloween-esque.
- The pirate stuff on the lazy river is weird and creepy
- The broken-down Chuck E. Cheese-ish puppet band in the climbing play area is creepy
The PROs:
- No lines
- Good thrill rides
- No lines
- No lines
- did I mention, there were no lines either time we went?
- 2 for 1 discount coupons on Tuesdays at http://www.lakeshoresa...
- You can bring your own cooler into the park with lunch and snacks.
The PROs win - the kids LOVE this place! They beg to go every time we drive by.
There is a kiddie area for smaller kids with several slides and a splash park. The bigger rides are FAST and fun. Most of the bigger rides have a 48" height requirement, so if your kids are smaller than that they will be relegated to the splash area with the smaller slides (still fun, by the way).
There is a lazy river with crickets climbing on the walls and the occasional dead frog floating along. The wave pool is fun.

Splash Down Dunes is awesome! I've been here from Chicago with some friends for a girls day out in the sun (we would get too bored laying around at the beach). We've been here twice (once in 2005 and again in 2006).
There are tons of slides that rev up your energy and when you get sapped from all the adrenaline rushes, you can just lay in the lazy river just floating around. The tide pool is the best - you can either fight the waves or just float on your inner tube pretending that you're in a big storm - and all on a sunny, hot day that we have here in the Midwest!
You can bring in your own food, but the food sold there is decent - nothing fancy - just hot pretzels, hot dogs, and the prices seem so cheap (maybe I'm used to paying up my nose in Chicago).
