YET another "review" for Spicy Pickle...... I tried this place. Sorry but it is not very good and not worth me blowing 4.50 a gallon over. Togo's = real sandwich happiness only 2 miles from where I work!

yet another... review with this place being the only review... and a question mark head? what is up guys...? seriously

This is the place to go when you want a "designer" or "gourmet" sandwich (Panini style).  The owners of this location are very sweet, and will actually come by while you are eating your sandwich to see if everything is good.  They also have king sized cookies... yummi and good for the tummy... but bad for the waistline.  Try it out, you might like it :P

FYI.. i am feeling a bit lazy tonight, so I copied this info from their website to save me some time:\

Spicy Pickle restaurants serve high quality meats and fine Italian Artisan breads along with a wide choice of 10 different cheeses, 21 different toppings, and 15 proprietary spreads to create healthy and delicious panini and sub sandwiches with flavors from around the world

Loved it on the first visit.  I am glad this franchise has gotten away from the "cafeteria line" style of sandwich making which has become very popular these days a la Subway, Quiznos, Submarina etc etc.
There is a place for those types of businesses and I think there is a place for this type of business.
Do I believe that the Spicy Pickle is for everyone? Nope not at all. Is it good for people that want a nice atmosphere and something a little different when it comes to their sandwiches? Absolutely. I must warn you though, if you dont like spice, I believe the menu may have limited options. I am not talking 'world championship' spicy contest hot, but their sandwiches definitely have a kick.
I had the Adobe

First of all, I just wanted to say that I agree with all of the negative reviews of this place.  My wife and I recently bought the 2008 Entertainment Guide and found a coupon in there for this place.  We figured it couldn't hurt to give it a shot so we went there hungry for a good sandwich.

The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was how disgustingly dirty the kitchen was, with flies abuzz and old vegetables and meat laying out on the cutting boards.  The owner and his wife were standing around socializing with one pair of customers and looked like they could give a sh*t less about customer service.

When I presented the owner with the coupon, he asked if I was going to order any drinks.  I rarely order soft drinks anywhere I go, so I told him I wasn't.  He gave me a disgruntled look and I though, man what an a**hole.

Seeing how filthy the kitchen was, my wife and I ordered a Portobello Mushroom sandwich, which tasted horrible once we got it.  It was piled high with lettuce, but with hardly any mushroom and hardly any cheese.  There was way too much vinagrette dressing on it, making the bread inedible.  If I weren't so hungry I wouldn't have finished it.

Worse yet, the owner approached us asking how the food was and I paused and said "good" in an annoyed tone.  My wife said "very good" just to be polite and then he casually remarked, "Ahh, very good.  That's what I like to hear."  I felt like telling him to go f*ck off.  I figured with a guy this full of himself and oblivious as to how to run a restaurant, I wouldn't get anywhere making suggestions.  He kept walking by our table, looking at us eating.  What a nutcase.

Oh, and the bathrooms and stockrooms were filthy.  The floors looked like they hadn't been mopped in days.

Just a disgusting, horrible place.  Do not go there.

I'm a general contractor and use yelp to check up on some of my clients. Today I thought I would would punch up my favorite local lunch spot - "Spicy Pickle". I cant' even believe the first few posts I read. That place is the shi@! I mean seriously, their so good they put their immediate next door neighbor - Pick up stix - out of business. My favorite Sandwich is the Adobe. It normally comes with mozzarella but Mark - the owner - switches it to swiss for me, no prob. Try it! It's da bomb! Anyways I think whoever wrote those negative posts about this place must have had some other reason other than bad service because the service is GREAT! I've been going there for about 6 months and now when I walk in I'm greeted with " Hey Jamon - my name - how are ya?"

The menu was okay and prices were a bit high. I had a spinach salad and my daughter had the kids grilled cheese. The salad was okay but a bit drenched in dressing. My stomach had the worst shooting pains for about 2 hours after that lunch. I don't know if it was the veggies, the dressing, or all of it combined! My daughter's grilled cheese was a grilled panini with barely any cheese. It was a rip off. We will not be back.

I'm a sandwich junkie.  Especially Capresse style:  Mozzarella, basil and tomato.  I'm not a vegetarian, but this sandwich simply cannot be beat!

The Spicy pickle is a great place for different sandwich's.  Their bread is baked fresh daily, and is absolutely amazing.  The quality is consistent, and always fresh.

The owner, Mark is the nicest guy.  He makes it a point to try to get to know you.  He never remembers my name, but always remembers my face.  So funny!  His wife, I have found, is not so personable, but I always like to try and help out the mom and pops.

I did see a comment on the price, and I do agree; they are a bit pricey.  Definitely not sandwiches for the every day, but more for the Saturday afternoon treat!

The service was okay, but the food wasn't that great.  My boyfriend and I got a half salad and sand-which combo.  The salad came with hardly any dressing and the sand-which was just nasty tasting.  I couldn't finish it.  My boyfriend was able to finish his food, so that is why it gets a two.  We wont be going back here.  It was way too much money for the quality of the food.

I was bummed to see the bad reviews for Spicy Pickle. I used to love going to lunch here when I worked in Poway, but it seems as if the quality may have gone down a bit. Needless to say I haven't been in a very long time, but it was good when I used to go. I went to the one in Vegas a few months ago and it was good quality food. I can't wait until they open the one in Little Italy.

I am shocked by the reviews on here. I just ate there recently without any coupon on a Wednesday for lunch. The place was unbelievably packed to capacity. I had to get my food to go since there was no place to sit. The food was fantastic! I had a gobbler panini (turkey) and baked potato soup. I love this place! I was treated well by the staff and they kept apologizing for not having enough places to sit (big seating area too). The place does seem to be fairly new so I would say give it a try at least once. Its better than Panera and healthier. Cheaper too!

I have to agree with the previous reviews about the owner....what a jack @**. I went in with my toddler with one of those buy one get one free coupons, and he said that i couldn't use it because I was only buying food for myself..I had to have someone there eating with me...umm, hello? I had my son, is he not entitled to a meal? I said "what? are you joking?" and he said "no." I said my son was the second person, and he finally agreed. Anyways, I was upset by his attitude, especially being the owner!! Anyways, food was okay, I had a tomato and mozzerella panini that was pretty good and a brocolli cheese soup breadbowl that was decent, but small for the price. I would consider eating there again if the owner takes the stick out of his butt.

Every year, I support my nephew's local school by purchasing The Entertainment Book which compiles coupons from local companies and donates a portion of the proceeds to that school. I noticed that one of the coupons included was for a location located near my work. Since it was a 'buy one get one free coupon' and I had never been there before, I invited my coworker along to try the restaurant for the first time. When I presented the coupon to the employee at the register (who happened to be the "owner" of that location) he dramatically rolled his eyes and said "Another one of these, this is the third one today". Appalled by his reaction and giving their brand the benefit of the doubt that perhaps I misunderstood him, I replied by a simple "Excuse me?" He proceeded to say, "I didn't think those coupons were still around, and here you are with the third one we've seen today." Shocked, I replied that they don't expire until the end of this year and continued to place my order. He asked what I wanted to drink. I gave up drinking sodas and sweetened drinks over 3 years ago because they are so unhealthy, so like I always do regardless of where I am; I asked for water. He replied, "Yup, just like all the others with this coupon do." Aghast again, I explained that I do not drink fountain drinks regardless of where I am. He responded with, "Wow, looks like someone is having a bad day". I was having a great day until I received such terrible service from this Owner and to top it all off, in front of my coworker whom I invited along. It's disgusting to see that someone in this customer service based food industry could treat a customer so revoltingly for using a coupon that his restaurant obviously publishes for marketing purposes. I don't understand why they would issue coupon in a book that is sold to benefit local schools and not want customers to use it. I work in the marketing industry myself, and the sole reason we publish coupons for our clients is for publicity. The clients I work with want their customers to see the coupon and use it so that it brings more business. The owner of this franchise set such a horrible example for his employees by treating customers so hostilely. I can definitely promise I will never, ever eat at this restaurant again. This was the worst customer service I have ever received at a restaurant that normally receives good reviews. I was stunned and disappointed in my experience.

.............revised 4-4-08 all these 5 star reviews are faker than a 3 dollar bill. the one and 2  star reviews for the stinky pickle are the real deal. the owner should stay in the back playing with his own spicy pickle and hire someone with customer service skills............................................ .................................................. ......................................over priced and not worth it .... the sandwich was nothing special and they screwed up our order.and like the other person they gave us a hard time about the coupon. they did not want to honor the buy one get one on a to go order. I told the owner the coupon does not state that and he said that was there own policy. I said thats not going to work and he agreed to do it . then he over charged us and it took way to long...I will not be returning

This is the only Spicy Pickle in San Diego County...in the whole State I think!  If you are looking for the alternative to the usual sandwich...GO HERE!  They have fantastic sandwiches, soups, salads, and more.  The customer service is great, and the owners Mark and Linda are super!  Ok now i'm hungry...I think I'll go there!!
