I found my frames here. Did I buy them? Awww helll nawwww. I re-found them on ebay for almost $220 off instead.
Nice staff though!
I'm wavering between 3-4 stars on this one, but it's Friday so I'm feeling especially nice....
So I'm pretty much blind. If you ever see me on the street and wave to me and I don't wave back don't take it personally....I can't see a thing! I tried contacts a while back and I spent most of my days washing out my eyes in the restroom. That just leaves glasses, but I look awful in glasses! So much so that I've decided to just not spend my money on glasses and during important "need to see times" (example: driving) I still wearing the same ones since high school.
But the high school glasses are starting to break and are just overall fugly so I really need some new ones. And so I found myself in Spex on my way to Lululemon this afternoon. Prada, gucci, etc...this is my type of glasses store!
The 2 people who work there didn't exactly seem keen on helping me at first, but after I asked for help a few times the guy gave in and helped me find a pair of glasses that worked for me. And after trying on about 5 different frames I found a pair of ogi frames for around $200 that I actually liked- would even consider wearing these in situations besides driving (such as a movie).
The sales associate informed me that my vision insurance might cover some of the lenses (so that's what my vision insurance is for???) so I'll be looking into that and then headed back for my frames!
I probably still won't be able to wave back to you on the street (not planning on wearing glasses out in public just yet), but at least I'll finally be able to see how cute Brad Pitt is on the big screen...
I have needed glasses for some time, but never got them. So I went to Spex. I thought their collection was limited. The staff was really not helpful in picking out frames for me. They were quite expensive I got the full exam. I had the optometrist write drown the prescription. I took the prescription to another place that I bought my glasses from. I get the glasses, and I can't friggin' see a thing! I bring the glasses back and with checking and getting another exam....The prescription was WRONG! Luckily the 2nd shop is covering my glasses "re-make", because they know that the important part of customer service is the CUSTOMER!
The glasses I got are Bitchin' and when People ask where to go. I will let them know.
I went here seeking an exam and my service with that was fine. Kind of overpriced on frames and exam (What did I expect? It's Lincoln Park)However, the few times I've been here, I feel like they are way over-staffed. For the size of the place, there's always like 3 people chillin' in front. Strange! Perks: If you get your contacts here, they will supply you with a year's worth of solution! Weeee!
Walked in here w/ a pair of glasses, not bought from them mind you, that needed dire repair. It was night time and I was driving! The woman working there took them off my hands w/out a word and fixed them in back ASAP. When I asked her how much I owed her she said nothing! What great service in high rent district galore no less, to not charge for services rendered is unheard of. Go here for GREAT service!!!!
I've purchased my last 3 pairs of glasses (and contacts) from Spex - first when they were on Armitage and now on Halsted.
I can't speak to their range of frame choices except to say that it seemed ample enough for me with a range of styles and prices that wasn't absurd. I'm confident you can find a more niche selection in other places, but I've been happy with the service and selection to this point (I primarily wear glasses as backup to contacts).
I decided to post this, however, due to a great customer service exchange that just happened.
I found a pair of Prada frames that I liked but they did not have in my color choice. I custom ordered the frames in the size I needed but took a leap of faith on the color and how it would all play out.
When I got the frames, they really weren't what I had anticipated and they just didn't "work" for me on several levels.
I walked back into Spex, told them the problem and their first reaction - "No Problem" - was exactly what I wanted to hear. They even had a pair of frames in the color I ended up choosing, in stock, and they swapped the lenses out in 30 seconds. Perfect reaction and will keep me coming back again.
I can also say Dr. Piper is great as an Optometrist. She's been checking my peeps for years and has been great to deal with - so if you need an exam, she's terrific.
The way the staffs explain things to me doesn't convince me buying a pair of glasses from them....I have to wait so long for someone to get the frames for me in those locked cases....They don't have the designer frames that I'm looking for.....so I didn't bother to give them a chance with my eyes..... which I'm glad after reading some of the other experiences on yelp.....
