Even if he were not my own, I sincerely think that my son is one of the coolest 3 year olds that I have ever met and I totally love hanging out with him. He is much nicer and more fun to be around than a lot of people my own age.
He's been teaching the hubby and I a lot of new things. It's incredible. With absolutely no prodding on our part, his all time favorite movie is Nightmare before Xmas. He absolutely adores Jack Skellington. You should hear him screaming Marilyn Manson's version of "This is Halloween".
Normally, I avoid stores like Spencer's Gifts. I've been around that type of merchandise way too long. I don't think that I can accurately describe the look of pure joy that I saw in his face when we passed their window. There was Jack Skellington stuff EVERYWHERE!!!
He marched into that store like a little grown up, and inspected all of the Jack merchandise and calmly approached one of the salesladies and asked, "Excuse me, may I please see that?" He is obsessed with animated talking figures. Of skulls and monsters of course. He had to have this one, there was no if, ands, or buts about it.
The staff here totally rocks! They not only took care of his request, they led him to every single Jack Skellington item in the store! They totally treated him like a rock star! It killed me. They also remembered that they received a shipment of posters that they had not yet put out on the floor. BFB was able to get a talking Jack Skellington, 3 different winter hats, a scarf, chapstick and a poster for his room today. I am secretly coming back for the blanket and pillow when he is not with me for his Christmas gift from Santa. I can't help it, I love that he is an individual and doesn't give a damn about what other kids his age are into. I feel it is important to cultivate that confidence, and damn it all, I needed to buy him new winter things anyways. I am quite sure that the staff loved us back for the amount of money that we ended up spending.
After we put his new poster up in his bedroom, he proudly told me that he has his very own Jack Skellington room. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would have such a great kid..
