I read a review on Speed Wash on (*gasp*) InsiderPages.com .

Let me correct Shana M.

- The only comfortable place to sit is on five hard plastic chairs.
- The TV is impossible to hear over roaring washers and dryers.
- It's not open 24 hours.

My semi-beloved cat Halpert upchucked on my old down comforter this morning. I didn't feel like spending moolah on dry cleaning, so I decided to follow several instructions on websites and take my stained and smelly comforter to Speed Wash.

I liked Pan American, but I went to Speed Wash because I thought it would be opened 24 hours (and obviously it wasn't).

Speed Wash vs. Pan American Laundromat:

- Speed Wash has several broken machines.
- A "Triple Loader" at Speed Wash costs 16 quarters ($4). At Pan American, you can use two "Double Loader" machines for $2 a piece.
- Pan American's facilities are much cleaner.
- Pan American has more clothes folding tables.
- Speed Wash's machines take longer to wash loads.
- Speed Wash has more high capacity machines (including one that fit my comforter, duvet, pillow cases, bed spread, and more in one go). That one costs $4.50 per load.
- Speed Wash has a working change machine.

While Speed Wash wasn't a poor laundromat, I prefer Pan American.

If I have some motivation, I would wash my clothes at Pan American, walk across the street to Speed Wash to dry my clothes, and walk back to Pan American to fold my clothes. That isn't quite practical though.

Tip: Don't allow your cat, dog, mongoose, or snowy owl to upchuck on anything. It ain't pretty.

It's not a laundromat...IT'S A PARTY!  Last time I was here, the song "Jump Around" was blasting through a stereo, and I could smell that people had been smoking cigarettes inside.  A handful of men were loitering outside, eyeing the women who were operating the machines, working up the courage required to hit on someone at a laundromat, no doubt.  Toddlers were racing around the dryers, and some teenagers were playing "San Francisco Rush 2049".  The manager had to shout just to explain to some dowager how to operate the change machine.  Plus there are lottery machines spread throughout the interior.  Forget about Tonic or Don Juan's---the best party on Mt Pleasant street is right here.
