We came here the first evening of our honeymoon.  What a perfect beginning to a fabulous time at the Ritz!

While we waited for our table, we sat in the bar area.  The bartender made me a "special" drink to congratulate us and it was delicious...and when we got up to sit at our table...woohoo!!! It turns out it was delicious AND strong!

After stumbling to our table, we are met by a very nice, knowledgable waiter AND sommolier who guides us in the right direction.  We are very pleased with everything we ordered. The food was delicious, all wine pairings were right on, and it was a perfect beginning to an amazing night    ;)

    Thanks SPAGO...

We were staying at the Ritz at Bachelor Gulch for a week, had a dinner there, couple of happy hour pizzas, and every breakfasts for the week!

For the dinner, the food was great, the portion was right for me but not for my husband's (in fact the $50+ NY Stripe was pretty small). I regret to say for the price I had better at same ranking restaurants; on the other hand, the happy hour pizza was great! For $12 you get a really good pizza which is the bargain of the century at that part of the world, and the Grey Goose martini was delicious; Breakfast was good, but so as every other Ritz Carlton hotels' breakfast, in another word, there is nothing to rave about.

My conclusion, if you are in Beaver Creek from Thur to Mon, don't miss the happy hour (till 7 pm) at Spago; if you have a big appetite after all those hiking, and don't really want to spend $300 for a dinner for two, Spago is not for you (anyway, I guess I really wish Nobu in Aspen also opens in Ritz Bachelor Gulch).

Walked in right off the slopes of Bachelors Gulch for a quick bite. They forgot the tangerines in my Chinese chicken salad and had to make a special request for the kitchen to bring them out separate...I love my citrus on a cold winter day. The best part of the meal was the warm buttered rum beverage which "took the edge off" after an extreme ski run through Deadman's Gully!

Wouldn't mind paying huge price for breakfast if it was something truely spectactular. But sadly, it wasn't. I think most would agree $76 for two is quite a bit for three pancakes, eggs benedict, juice and coffee. The pancakes and the OJ were all sickly sweet. And at that price point one would expect some crabcakes with the eggs benedict.

The cowhide chairs, although visually appealing, are probably the most uncomfortable seating I have encountered in an upscale restaurant. Well, even in a fast food restaurant for that matter. If you are tall, your legs will not fit under the table without your knees hitting the underside, and you will be so high and far away from the plate that you will have to bend your neck like a giraffe on the serengeti to eat properly. Super models and pro athletes will not be amused.

The service was excellent, like everyone at the Ritz location. However, I can't get past a meal which I feel just wasn't a value. I have had breakfast worth a $76 price tag and this wasn't it.

We went here for a friend's 30th birthday while we were staying at the Ritz Carlton. Spago made her birthday so special for all of us.

The service was impeccable. Our waiter Jason actually knew what he was talking about when it came to the food and wine. He did a great job of recommending (up-selling) the truffle appetizer, which cost $50. It was like little pillows of heaven with shaved white truffles on top and in my opinion, if you have the money, it was completely worth it.

I got seared tuna "aqua pazza" which was a special order since the "aqua pazza" came with salmon on the menu, they were more than happy to switch things up, and I actually combined two dishes at the recommendation of our server. It was a delicious decision.

They brought us each a dessert- which we didn't even order, and they were all amazing. Mine was especially funny since they overheard me talking about how Will was the greatest water pourer ever (see pics).

My two friends and I laughed more than I ever have in my life. We felt comfortable and at ease with the whole waitstaff, and were genuinely impressed with the level of service they provided. They dealt with 3 overly giggly and loud girls for 3 hours. That takes some patience.

The food was spectacular, but be prepared to shell out some serious dough. Our meal came to over $400 for 3 people with comped desserts. BUT we also drank A LOT. So of course booze adds up. Especially when the birthday girl orders $20 glasses of wine.

If you want to have a good time, eat really good food, have well prepared drinks, and look at cute waitstaff (for you ladies) go here.

Now I miss Spago. Someone want to spot me $500 so I can go back?

Let's see.  Pretty wonderful, but it'll (of course) hit your wallet hard.

Ambience was fantastic.  If I wanted to channel "warm, cozy ski chalet," this would be it.

Food was upper 90% and priced appropriately.  The kobe was tasty, but had better be at $62.  I had the NY prime ($51), and the table consensus was that mine had better flavor.  Apps were excellent.  Gnocchi with kobe meatsauce was wonderful ($25), and the lobster bisque ($13) was nice...

Wine selection and the steward were excellent.  Again, same them.  If you want to get a $1700 Grand Cru, this is the place.

Dessert, we got the carrot cake and the chocolate torte.  Very nice.

Overall, a great experience, but be prepared for the $$ side so you can enjoy the meal.  Definitely a great anniversary / birthday type experience...

You get what you pay for. Sometimes.

The decor is a little weird. The attempt is some sort of Asian/Western American disaster- but not to the point that it's distracting.

Pear Martini's with fresh pear puree', 6 fresh breads to choose from, Sticky rice with a hint of fresh yuzo, perfectly cooked fish, serious four star service... on and on.

Our server (Ben) was a consummate professional, until I asked if he could please do something about the lady in the leopard print outfit sitting in the cow print chair, because it was creating a dizzying effect, and obviously distracting the entire restaurant from enjoying their food.

He (straight faced) replied "immediately, sir." and walked over to the lady and bent over and starting talking to her (I'm sure asking if everything was OK) but it KILLED me and Tricia. We were laughing like someone farted in church.

Anyway, the date cake dessert was fantastic.

So if you're looking to drop a bunch of cash on a super-ultra-fancy restaurant in the mountains, ask for Ben at Spago.

I made reservations for my birthday 2 months in advance. I requested a specific waiter that had taken care of us previously and a few other things.

None of my requests were granted.

We were 7 seated at a table for 5, smushed together. Our placemats were overlapping and the table was basically in the bar area.

When I complained to the hostess, she tried to placate me by telling me, "Lots of people love to sit close together at that table." When I explained we did not like to sit on top of each other to eat, she was extremely rude and unaccommodating.

Thankfully another hostess interjected and remedied the situation.

They comped us a small risotto, an extra tuna cone, and a dessert. Our waitress was extremely EXCELLENT. Compared to previous visits, the food was mediocre. The halibut was rubbery, soup nice, not spectacular. I was extremely disappointed with the hostess' attitude. I will most likely not revisit.

Thank goodness Ritz changed their restaurant to Spago's.  The restaurant here before was awful!  Great food and great service, if you are in the Bachelor Gulch area, it's a must try.  It's a bit expensive, but then again if you are staying at any of the hotels in the resort area I don't think you'll be sweating it too bad.  If you are looking for a NYC/LA/MIA standard restaurant, this is it.

The breads are delicious (I think I had about 4 of the pretzel style buns) and  so are the apps and mains but don't forget to leave room for the Kaiserschmarrn!  It's best described as a pancake soufflé severed with some berries.  It's a pretty big dessert and perfect for sharing with a table of 4.  Although I could have had the whole thing myself and wanted some more for breakfast!

I came here for dinner with my brother in September, so they had some pretty great deals on.  A 5 course meal for $48?  $68 with a wine paring?  The value here was excellent for the amount and quality of food and wine received.

It's been a while since I was here, but there was some seafood, some pasta, and some meat.  All of it was good.

It was dead quiet when we were here, so there may be some douchiness with the regulars that we avoided.  The waiter and bartender were affable, knowledgeable people.  I went looking for one of the wines in the pairing they had.

Great food, drinks, cowhide seats.... what's not to love?

The cowhide seats, that's what. Not only are you like, "DOOD. I'm sitting on COW FUR" but the chairs are uncomfortable. The cowhide bar stools are even worse, as there is no back on the chair for support.

The drinks were good, but the bartenders seemed overwhelmed with the amount of people in our group. I know it's off season and all, but surely you should expect and be able to accomodate the occasional corporate retreat?

I love Wolfgang, and his food is excellent. The times I've been here for dinner have been absolutely amazing.

That being said, when I have come for lunch during a day of skiing, the experience has been unbelievably different. The waiters are pretentious, unfriendly, and horribly rude. More than once I have been, and our table has been completely ignored. The waiter comes up finally with a condescending smirk, and refuses to bring the olive bread which we had asked for 5 times. Finally it came, yet they brought it to the table next door.

They left us sitting at the end of the meal, more than once, for literally almost an hour. Finally they came to bring the check. We asked to split it evenly, and they put completely arbitrary amounts on each tab. We just signed and left.

I hope Wolfgang reads this. He's the best and so friendly. His food is fantastic. His wait staff at this establishment is terrible.

Spago at the Ritz is a great restaurant - the complete package.  They have the most well organized kitchen and wait staff in the valley I have come across so far.  The food is quite good, though probably not quite worth the prices on a regular basis.  Save room for the kaisersmarren dessert - it is well worth it.  Be prepared to get a credit check and second mortgage - like Steve Martin in LA Story - the food runs about $100+ per person plus whatever you spend on alcohol.

My only complaint is the uncomfortable cow covered chairs - if you can request a booth or a table with wooden chairs.

    We lucked out.
In the past year this is the third Wolfgang Puck resto at which I've had the pleasure of eating. I'm a bit of a food nerd, and love what I have come to expect at a Spago and Postrio(RIP). I looooved Martin F.s description of the douchebaggery exhibited here(it IS the Ritz in Vail), and saw a bit of it, but we were there on a special night where all dishes were a mere $11.
Let that soak in for a minute. $11.
I think the sesame tuna cones app we had is normally something around $30- for an appetizer, people. That is ridiculous.
We also had the hand cut pasta "rags" in a ragu, which I could have eaten five times, seriously.
Mains: We split the scallops (there were two) the salmon (on a bed of what tasted like pure god-like butter that was the consistency of pureed potato, wow) and the pan roasted chicken(saltbomb) and had aperitifs with the apple struesel and gelato.
The wine was also half priced (still, lucky!)
The service was great, everyone seemed to be having a good time.
We also had breakfast here, a great quiche of the day and waffle with creme fraiche and mascerated berries- scary fluffy for a waffle. Scary- but delicious.
If you are staying at the Ritz, you aren't really concerned with what is spent on meals - so go for it, have a great time, and drink lots of water. Hangovers are no fun at altitude.

wolfgang puck's spago opened here a few days ago, with great fanfare. it is the first time wolfie has entered the ski market, and this hotel is about as good as it gets when it comes to ski-in-sit-down-and-eat.

spago sets the standard for colorado mountain cuisine; maybe anywhere's mountain cuisine.

i dined here three times and everything we had was impeccably served, brilliantly conceived and flawlessly executed. from wolfie's favorite strogonoff and spaetzle to the corned beef hash-cake benedict, i can honestly say i hadn't eaten that well since an impromptu dinner at frasca in boulder a few months ago.

spago is wonderful; sunny, very high ceiling, luscious warm colors, faux brown and white calf-skin chairs, the odd john fielder print, very expensive cross-cut hardwood floors, a marble slab exhibition kitchen and the stemware and cutlery detailed to complete an ambiance of comfortable modern luxury.

i heard that the restaurant expects to do some incredible volume of business - about double what the top place in the vail valley has ever done before - so i was very skeptical that anywhere could be a) that good or b) that expensive. i was floored on both accounts. it really is that good (just try the hand-cut fettuccine and mushrooms) and is certainly not for the budget-conscious crowd.

two of us had lunch without alcohol (twice) and a breakfast here and dropped a little over $300. expensive fizzy water up at 9,000 feet...

the bar area opens to the great room of the hotel, and has an amazing atmosphere that combines the best of LA's chic design with the cozy tradition of a grand colorado ski lodge, complete with gigantic fireplace, ridiculously large logs and dusty, cross-eyed, dead animal heads.

pay them a visit; it's pricey, but well worth it.

Located in the Ritz Carlton, Spago, Beaver Creek, seems to be resting on the laurels of the Wolfgang Puck empire. The service and the food were uneven. Although I had a beautifully sculpted salad at the beginning of my meal, the main course, halibut,  was watery, and the dessert, a chocolate torte, was average. No one was there when I needed my chair pulled out or my napkin replaced, but a big show was made of presenting all of the dishes at once. At better restaurants I expect all of the pieces to come together and this time they didn't.

As a long-time, part-time, Beaver Creek resident and full-time foodie, the idea of Wolfgang Puck's Spago in the valley was intriguing.  This is our third visit.  Sweet Basil in Vail, Splendido in Beaver Creek, and Picasso at Cordillera make pretenses to be the best restaurant in Eagle County, but  they don't come close.  Spago is the real thing, unfortunately with real prices to match.  From top to bottom, from decor to food to service, clearly, Spago is the best.  The spicy tuna tartar was spectacular and rich.  You don't expect tuna tartar to be filling, but somehow it was.  Steamed red snapper with bok choy, lemon grass, snap peas and ginger transformed a normally boring fish to great heights.  It was perfectly fresh and perfectly prepared.  I had the veal chop ($52) and had understandably high expectations.  They were surpassed.  Carved off the bone and prepared medium rare, it was juicy and tasty; the best I've ever had.  The sommelier guided me to a lighter style Burg at a lower price than the wine that I had been considering and it was fabulous.  Desserts were decadent but sophisticated.  We did chocolate but I'm running out of room in this review as I did with my dinner, so you will have to try them on your own.  One critique; the vegetables were a little too salty for my taste and I like salt.  Maybe they'll read this and take a look.  Wolfgang should be proud.
