5 reviews for Spa Sydell
I was soooo disappointed. I don't know about the gift certificates and rip offs and such because this was already paid for as a gift before I arrived, but all I have to say is BOOOOOOO Spa Sydell. BOOOOOO on you. The facial was great, don't get me wrong. My face was happy. Happy face = happy Alicia! lol
....But Oooooo momma miaaa. The massage you ask? Noooooo. Uggg. I was completely disappointed. The staff was friendly enough, but wow, did you not read your book "How to give a massage" for dummies? I think maybe it's the type of massage I like; the deep tissue. I prefer if i've had a long week or month or months then i've got some tight muscles right. Well I am pretty sure I conveyed that message to the massage therapist. It was a young man (I sound like such an old lady) who attended Life College. Don't remember his name. Sad isn't it? lol Well let me just say that he used so much oil I don't think he even had the opportunity to give me a massage because once he touched my skin he was off like a skier on slopes in the first snow fall.
It was not relaxing nor did I leave happy, refreshed or all of any of the above. I haven't been back since and am still in search of a true/ real massage. He kind of scared me away from massages for the time being so for now I will stay in my caccoon until I feel comfortable to get another massage. Any suggestions? Anyone? lol
Yeah that's right, I went to a day spa. So what? Can a guy not feel like he needs to be pampered with a good oil massage every now and then? Sure a visit to Spa Sydell may be out of the ordinary for a guy who spends his weekends on the couch watching football and eating hot wings....but if I was wrong in going to get a nice massage for an hour, then being wrong has never felt so right.
Seriously though, the real reason that I went was because my girlfriend won a $200 gift certificate from Q-100 and wanted to surprise me with a couples massage. After I was surprised and dragged into the place, I immediately felt uncomfortable... mainly because I did not want one of my buddies to see my hanging out in this kind of place. I could get beat up for something like that, and possibly have my man card revoked.. !!
The waiting room was very relaxing and dimly lit with a waterfall separating you from the lobby. Upon entering the massage room or whatever, you enter an even darker realm where they are playing one of those nature Cd's with background noises like gentle rainfall and monkeys yelling in the distance.
The actual massage was great. We had the couples massage, which basically puts you in two separate rooms with an opening in the middle wall where you can see each other. I think my girlfriend was comforted by the fact she was able to monitor my massage therapist's actions : )
It really was a great experience though. I can't imagine ever wanting to pay $200 out of my pocket for an hour massage, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
Boo Spa Sydell.
Spa Sydell pushes their Half-a-day at Spa Sydell Gift Package (check out the paste from their website below). The only thing they don't tell you is that it's only 2 hours. Since when is 2 hours considered a half-day? I don't see how it couldn't be legal to advertise that! To top it off, the service is sub par and it's more like being shepherded from one place to other in a sheep heard than visiting a spa for relaxation.
"Half-a-Day: Spend a half day indulging yourself. Select two of the following treatments: The Sydell Facial, The Body Massage or The Manicure and Signature Pedicure with our Spa Hand Treatment.
Product Cost $170.00"

I hate to give any place only 1 star, but they really p!$$ed me off! Maybe it was my fault, but whatever. I just think the customer service was bad. I had gotten a pedicure at this location over the summer and it was OK. $65 for a pedi I thought it would've been a lot better! Anyway, this past Christmas, my husband bought me a gift certificate to the spa. I was cool with that even though I wasn't too impressed from my first visit. He purchased the GC the day before Christmas Eve (yeah, I know!). Well, after the Christmas morning festivities and mounds of gift wrap strewn around by my daughter, we cleaned up. SOMEBODY (not me or my daughter) accidentally threw away the big red envelope! We didn't realize this until the next day when I went to make my appointment. I was so mad, but immediately called the spa and explained what happened. They told me that GC are treated as cash usually, but I could talk to the manager who would be in the following day. Being in retail management, I KNOW there are always exceptions to everything. It was paid for with a credit card, we had the receipt, there is a barcode on the back of the certificate that proves it has not been used. Well, the manager told us there was nothing she could do. I asked if I could call corporate and she said they would say the same thing. I just feel that SOMETHING, ANYTHING could have been done, especially since they are a locally owned Spa. I know there are records who comes in when and whether or not the GC was used. Whatever. Ok, so this was more of a vent than a review, sorry! They definitely are OVERRATED though!
