I admit it:  I am a guy who likes to be pampered.

Roger and his team are all-stars.  I can only attest to the skills of the massage therapists but they've all been excellent.

I've tried for years to convince myself that the reason I go is because massage is a great way to supplement my exercise and training regime and aids recuperation but if I'm honest, it's because I enjoy the pampering.

Shhh.

They also have this great hand soap.  No, no, really.

This is a fabulous spa for an indulgent little get away. The reception area is packed with interesting items you can buy, but you won't stay there for long. The friendly staff will take you away to the inviting changing room and then you will relax in the relaxation room. The relaxation room is secluded and beautiful with comfy chairs and chaise loungers. There is a nice assortment of refreshments.

I had a facial and it was one of the best facials I've ever received. The staff was just incredible. She made helpful suggestions without pushing the products. The entire staff is friendly and fun.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this little gem hiding out near Nob Hill. I had Spa finder gift certificates to spend so I splurged on a facial. It was wonderful. The gal Tracy was excellent. The facial was amazing. The service excellent. I went to relax and I must say I came away floating on air. The place is clean, tranquil and peaceful. I am plus sized and I am always worried about robes fitting me but no worries here. They have right up to a 3x in robe sizes. I went back for a waxing and took my little guy as he so wanted to "see" the brownies in the relaxation room. They let him "see" them twice. I also had a manicure and it was OK but nothing spectacular. Overall a super place. I have asked for another treatment for Mother's day. I cannot wait to go back

I am quite the frequent spa goer and I have to say this was one of the best spa experiences I've had...especially accommodating for couples.

I was skeptical of the spa location being in a shopping plaza but as soon as you enter the corner location, the front desk is all smiles and very attentive. Though on the smaller side for a full-time spa, the service more than makes up for any space issues. The lounge was filled with your typical accommodations (with snacks and teas, infused water, magazines) but I feel what really set the place apart was the friendly service and GREAT massage therapists.

I had a couples massage with a couples bath ritual added on. Picture a nice big tub with romantic lighting and jets, half an hour in 100 degree water with cold towels when it starts heating up too much and water for your comfort. My boyfriend and I soaked for a good while, just enough to loosen us up for our massages. A gentle knock tells us it's time for our massage, you dry off, get on a table and the therapist, Lori, is attentive enough to ask if we need the fans on, which is nice since some sweating took place in the bath tub...from the hot water of course! Our therapists, Jason and Lori, were WONDERFUL! So attentive, I felt like the entire hour was too good to be true. After the massage, we showered together in their shower room and left VERY happy clients. We will surely be back again!

I LOVE this place.  I have had several facials from Kimberley and a massage from Jason.  I am taking my husband in for a massage on Saturday.  The atmosphere and service are wonderful.  Kimberley has recommended a few skin care products and the ones I have purchased have really improved my skin.  They are not pushy about products at all.  I absolutely love the decor and I really enjoy the few minutes I get to spend in the waiting room, kicked back on the lounge chair in the fluffy robe and slippers, enjoying some snacks.

On a Friday night whim, my boyfriend and I decided to use our Spafinder.com gift certificates on Saturday at SpaLuxe (go to Costco...pay $80 for $100 gift certificate). He called up right before closing time and got us in for Sat afternoon.

I got a Swedish massage by Jason and it was one of the best I've ever had. I asked him to focus on a certain section of my back and he really took care of the knots. My bf got a Hawaiian massage -- I'll have to try this next time. He also said it was one of the best massages he's ever had (was with Lori).

The facility is very nice, but no whirlpool, sauna etc. and is located in  a strip mall, which other yelpers don't seem to care for. But it wasn't a problem for me since it is so conveniently located near my home and next time, I'll go to Amici's afterward! (any coupons for Amici's?)

There is only one shower, so I just sat in the relaxation room until it was available. No problem -- it was snack time!

I would recommend Spa Luxe for a quiet visit by yourself or with just one friend. If you're grabbing your girlfriends for a day at the spa, try Burke Williams, which has all the amenities -- and you'll pay for them too!

Hint to boyfriend: take a massage class.

I love this place! Very relaxing atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Yummy choco raisins and other goodies in the lounge. They make every attempt to make sure you are comfortable and even offer a glass of chardonnay.

I loved their signature facial.  My therapist Rita talked a lot and talks loud, which got kind of annoying since I was trying to relax, but that didn't take away from how good I felt afterwards.  It was an awesome facial.  Their mani/pedi is very pricey and my nails chipped the next day. Besides that, their services are EXCELLENT.

After I had gotten engaged in April '07 I was in need of a great spa that can help me look and feel great for my wedding.  When I came across Spa Luxe I had no idea what to expect, I had no idea that after going there for 8 months that I would have left with a handful of great friends and wonderful memories.

The front desk hostess are always welcoming you with a smile.  The dressing rooms are set with a calm lighting and offer lockers for your clothes and other belongings.  The robes and slippers are quite comfortable (they do a great job of washing them and keeping fresh ones available).  The waiting room is set in calm blues and grays with little snacks and beverages.

Every specialist/therapist is wonderful and really takes care of their clients.  Everytime I went I always got a 60 minute sports massage and a 60 minute facial.  Sometimes I would do a little extra like a mud wrap or sea scrub or mani/pedi.

Kim, my massage therapist did wonders for my neck kinks.  Rita, who always did my facials is one of the most bubbly and hospitable therapist I have ever met.  She loves to make you laugh...  Rita does a great job at assessing your skin and giving you the best facial fit for your skin.

When I got my nails done I had them done by Elizabeth once and then a few times with Nicole.  They may be pricey but Nicole was a well known manicurist from the Ritz Carlton before she came to Spa Luxe and she is known for her famous french mani/pedi.

Spa Luxe is my local spa - and it's indeed located in the Redwood Shores shopping center [had never thought of this as a strip mall, but there you go].

I give the spa 5 stars because it is always perfectly clean, the atmosphere is tranquil, the staff are super nice [front desk and those who provide services], and they actually take the time to get to know you.  My use of services has been massages, pedicures, and waxes - and all have been great.  I really like Rita for waxing and Elizabeth for nails.

It's great that they have Sunday hours.

Good service, but less than Stellar results :(

French Manicure + French Pedicure= $35+ $55= $90 + tip

Oh so-not-worth-it.......I booked here because it was convenient and I needed to get my nails done for an event, but I definitely didn't think the results would be this bad.

In 3 days.....my nails have all chipped and the polish is peeling off, my toes look like I haven't had a pedicure in a long time......and this was all less than a week ago.....combine not-so-great Elizabeth Arden nail polish (I would think a place like this would use a good top coat like seche vite, poshe, or OPI) and a bad painting techinique (the white part was painted on uber thin) and you have a unlasting result.

Off I go to get a polish change somewhere else to remedy the situation. Its a bummer the results weren't good cause the staff was so friendly and the place was beautiful and relaxing :(

Got an amaaazing birthday massage here - 90 minutes of bliss! I highly recommend Jason, who did my sports massage. He rocks. He even hooked it up with his personal recipe for a muscle release/detox bath afterwards. My bf and I got a couples massage, so he was getting a Swedish right next to me. Very nice.

Some nice Spa Luxe touches: sanitized massage slippers, comfy robes, snack lounge complete with brownies and orange-infused water, and a very serene atmosphere.

Thanks boyfriend, this was the best birthday present ever!

My wife and I were just at Spa Luxe yesterday and it was wonderful.  We got the couple's massage and followed by a facial.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly associate and escorted to the locker rooms.  We changed into our soft, beautiful robes and slippers.  The waiting room is designed with a warm and relaxing atmosphere.  Light snacks, water, and tea are all available for us to enjoy.  The room for our massage was dimly lit and very clean.  A perfect atmosphere for the massage.
After the massage, we waited in the waiting room and enjoyed the break and the snacks.  After a couple of mintues, we were escorted to the facial rooms.  The facial included rejuvination treatment as well as a face and upper body massage.  I left with a very soft and supple skin.

Overall, it was an awesome experience.  Yes, it's overpriced, but this is one of those places that you won't mind splurging because it'a nice treat.
Also, some people have commented about the location on the strip mall.  This made me worry, but when I got there, it was a great location.  The mall is not crowded and located in a nice and quiet neighborhood.  There's also plenty of parking, right in front of the spa, so you won't have to walk far.

Glad I read the reviews before heading in for my appointment, otherwise I might have been dissuaded by the outer strip-mall appearance. I had an early morning Chardonnay Ritual - an awesome scrub of chardonnay seeds and sugar, followed by a 20-minute soak in chardonnay bubble bath, finished up by a shea butter massage. Heavenly!

Its a nice little spa, lacking in the standard steam room/sauna/hot tub type fare, but I didn't really miss them. My treatment was relaxing, and I was not rushed through any part of it. My only caveat would be to recognize that this is a day spa in a strip mall - though they do an admirable job of making you forget it! I enjoyed my treatment so much, I will be visiting again!

Since I've started working in Redwood city, we've pretty much made Spa-Luxe an integral part of our lives.  Sure, it sits in a strip mall in an obvious "I used to be a Carl's Jr" way, but if you can get past that and step inside, you are really in for a treat.

Everything inside is very clean, elegant and comfortable.  You go into the changing room, and put on a robe.  Then you hang out in this nice quiet lounge until your massage therapist comes and takes you to your room.  The tables are super comfortable, and some of the therapists are top notch.  I highly recommend Lori, who gives excellent deep tissue and pre-natal massages.

Everyone has been super friendly to us at Spa-Luxe.  its a little expensive, but in this case, I feel you really get what you pay for.

If you are in the area I highly recommend checking it out.

This was only my 2nd Brazilian wax experience, and Rita did a great job of making you feel comfortable and relaxed with small talk and conversation.  The front desk staff was friendly and helpful as well.  Both the hours and location are convenient to where I work and live.  I was able to call at 7:30 PM on night and get a morning appointment the next day.  I knocked off 2 stars, though, because of the high price: $65 compared to the $35 you get in downtown Redwood City and $55 in San Jose.

I plan on trying out The Pedestal in downtown Redwood City and if all goes well there, I probably won't be coming back to the Spa Luxe.

Very friendly staff, especially the front desk.  Knowledgeable aesthetician.  Received a facial/peel, which came with a mini massage.  Facial felt great, massage was ok but an overall relaxing experience.  My hands were cold and Tracy, the aesthetician, warmed them with hot stones!  She also explained each step of the facial and talked about proper skincare regimen, and although I did appreciate the aforementioned, I felt like she talked too much and kept trying to push products.  I ended up buying one of her recommendations, so we'll see how that goes.

The spa had a small lounge area with light snacks and tea/water, with a decent selection of magazines.  The services are priced somewhat high for being a small spa and not having many amenities (no jacuzzi, sauna, steamroom, etc), but if the product she recommended me works I'll be back fo sho.

I have been here at least half a dozen times and usually get the Alpha Beta Professional Face Peel Treatment. It is a wonderful mini "peel", but without all of the redness, peeling, irritation, etc. usually associated with peels. The only drawback, and why the spa only gets 4 stars are the prices- at $115 a pop for the peel, it is a bit pricey.

Spa Luxe is wonderful.  I've had nail treatments with Elizabeth and massages with Jason, and both are amazing!  The spa environment is tranquil, and the massage rooms are equipped nicely with heated tables and the softest sheets and blankets.  I find the locker room and co-ed waiting room each a bit on the small side, but both are decorated very nicely and offer a relaxing atmosphere.  I also find the staff at the front desk to be very warm and welcoming (no spa snobbery here).

I gave them a 5 for the above reasons, but in the interest of fair disclosure, I did have one negative experience, where I thought management could have delivered superior customer service but didn't.  Due to a scheduling error on their part, a therapist did not show up on time for my appointment.  They informed me of this 5 minutes after my appointment was supposed to have begun and apologized, but it was a weekend, and I didn't mind waiting.  The therapist finally showed up (30 minutes late), and then gave a massage that wasn't particularly complete -- it was supposed to be a 60 minute full body massage and about 55 minutes were spent on one side and 5 on the other.   When it came time to pay, no mention of the 30 minute wait was made (all the more irksome given that if I were 30 minutes late, I'd be charged and not get my treatment).    In fairness, I did let them know that it was basically half a massage and they gave me a small discount, but their lack of proactive customer service was disappointing.  That said, I've been back several times, and I've only had positive experiences since.

If you go to the City, you could probably have a similarly enjoyable spa experience, but why go to the City when awesome Spa Luxe is right here on the Peninsula?  I've had Lomi-Lomi massages from two different practictioners, both of which were completely mind blowing.  I think this might be the only way people should ever get massaged- it is super holistic, integrating, deep and relaxing.  I feel the beneficial effects for a week or two after!

Strangely located in a strip mall, Spa Luxe was a delightful surprise. We indulged in a couple's massage, and the therapists were fantastic. The spa itself is small, but they've done wonders with the space with its calm beach / ocean theme. At its co-ed relaxation area, we were able to enjoy some time together where they provided tea, water and smart snacks. It is a really nice small spa, and my only complaint would be the lack of a shower and steam room in the women's locker room. The shower was outside the relaxation area, so you have to cross that room to get to the women's locker room. I have been to plenty of spas around the world, and Spa Luxe does keep up with some of the best in terms of providing some of the amenities you expect from a nice spa, but it'd get 5 stars from me if it were in a more tranquil setting (instead of a strip mall) and if it had better locker room amenities. It's good to have a nice spa mid-peninsula.

I went today for a eyebrow/upperlip wax and a LUXE Essential Facial. Leah was amazing who is the beautician and Mona the receptionist is very cordial and friendly and the overall experience was a A+. My only suggestions are;

1) Relaxation room, the snacks were not very tasty, chocolate and nuts? Not the ideal snack before a treatment but I think small sandwiches, some savouries would be better. Also for the hot tea, there was one tea bag each. I think a more extensive selection. There was honey provided but no lemon tea? So like a box with a variety of tea bags. The water provided, would be nice to have water jugs perhaps filled with water and cucumber/lemon slices in the jugs.

2) The music while experiencing the treatment is too loud. Needs to be softer.

3) Products TOO pricey, need to make it discounted and attractive for customers, my serum alone and cleanser cost as much as the treatment! Perhaps because  a client is spending over 100$ for example, they should make products offered atleast at a discounted rate like 20-30% off, it will encourage customers to continue to purchase add on products.

Overall though Leah is amazing, my skin looks amazing and my eyebrows look wonderful. I'll go ahead, I did sign the rewards program on line before my visit but forgot to mention it and they did not mention it to me either so dont know what was the purpose of that.

Maybe I have high standards but when you're paying $105.00 hour for a massage I think you have the right to expect a quality massage.  My massage was lousy, I gave up on asking for more pressure after five requests.

If anyone out there knows of a massage therapist who knows how to give a good deep tissue massage near San Carlos I'd love to hear from you!!!

Spa-Luxe (what kind of a name is that anyway?) reminds me of a ditsy cheerleader, pretty and sparkly but not much else to make it special or different.  God I hate cheerleaders!

This place is definitely better than "Monde," the former spa that leased the place.  I believe some of the therapists stayed but the front desk is more friendly, and the spa now sells all sort of neat gifts and wonderful skin products at the front of the store.

I had a wonderful Sunday afternoon massage there with Maria.  It was quiet and serene, just what I needed.

I would definitely go back on a regular basis.  I was also told of a cellulite treatment, which I'm dying to try out.  I hope to have a follow up review on this later.

I found this place through yelp and I once saw it when I stopped into this strip mall for lunch.
I was so pleased with my time. I had a massage with Rebecca. The room was nice, I had a eye pillow during the treatment and the facilities are so clean and everything smelled good.
All the reviews are correct in saying that it is odd to be in a strip mall, but you really forget about it once you enter the spa. I really like the fact that parking is easy, you don't have to drive into the city for a luxurious pampering.
I was so happy and relaxed afterward.
I recommend a try!

LOVED my sugar scrub and massage with (rebecca)(sp?)

in the middle of a strip mall but the inside decor was very elegant, great massage,  great staff (roger and skye are the front desk and owners...)

no jacuzzi or steam room though

takes spafinder gift certificates which they carry at costco sometimes, thus you are getting a discount

they have coupons on citysearch.com for bonuses with purchase e.g. 20% off a candle with purchase, or extras with facial...

minus 1 star b/c doesn't have extras e.g. steam room, jacuzzi, pool

little details that were nice: lounge had water, tea, brownies, snack food e.g. choc covered raisins, trail mix.

very nice robes! nice massage-y slippers, warm neck thing during the massage and also put on lower back!!!

I went in for a full experience--salt scrub, deep tissue massage, reflexology, and pedicure.  At least, that's how the appointment was booked.

I've never had a salt scrub, and found the experience worthwhile.  The deep tissue massage was intense, especially on my back, which is now quite sore (which, to me, is part of the point).  I do wish that more time and more of that intense pressure had been spent on the rest of my body, though.  The reflexology was not intense at all, not at all like a genuine Taiwanese-style foot massage in any way, but must have hit the right spots, as I could not for the life of me stay awake.  Actually, I went to a unique happy place that was trance-like, so I cannot complain.  The pedicure didn't happen, because it was not on the books.

Things I liked:  Mellow, approachable facility minus unneeded fru-fru.  Tons of parking.  Keeping you with the same body worker the entire appointment, which helps with flow.  Well organized, other than the missing appointment.  Nice lounge.  Massage table wonderfully padded, especially the head rest.

Things I didn't like:  Missing appointment, and not that much apology about it, didn't feel the love.  Men share the lounge with women (and look uncomfortable while doing so).  Cash only tips (after a full spa service, this can be a massive wad of cash).  Music in treatment rooms too loud.

I had Kim, who is very good, but not touchy-feely if that's what you like.  Very to-the-point.  My friend had Jason, who she adored, and who gave advice of salt baths to try at home.  More touchy-feely.

All in all, a very good experience, with caveats as noted.

I've been to dozens of places and have never really gotten the shape I imagine.  Until I found Kim at Spa Luxe, she's gentle, quick and my brows have never looked this good.  I recently saw her for a facial and was so happy with the treatment that I am now hooked.  I also love the fact that she will recommend products but doesn't make you feel obligated to buy it. What she has recommended I love.

This ambiance of this place oozes class, style and beauty minus the pretension that often lurks at most spas.  The robes, the beds, even the chairs in the waiting room will make you feel like you never want to leave.  The moment you walk in the door the staff is attentive and friendly.

The location is a bit odd but that's what makes it great.  Tons of parking, easy in and out, right off the freeway and you can grab a bite to eat before or after.

I went here for my birthday this week. This place is great. Its right across from the Nob Hill in Redwood Shores.  Its clean, peaceful, and my massage therapist, Keesha, was great. She was kind, gave me an overview of the whole process before we began, and made me feel at ease even though I am a spa novice and was worried I'd feel exposed and flabby.

I got the sugar body polish treatment. You are scrubbed all over in stages so you don't feel too exposed. The showers are right in the treatment room so you can shower between the scrub and the massage in private. Once I was in the shower I felt like I had new skin, and I haven't hand to moisturize and its been over 24 hours. There is a relaxation room with herbal drinks, water and snacks (including brownie bites, yum). The cost was a deal and a driving factor in my choosing this place. I got a full body treatment with massage for $110. Compared to other spas this really is a good buy. And if you are new they throw in a free eye or hand treatment, but you have to mention the deal when booking. (The hand treatment was an antioxidant scrub, cream massage and heat mitt treatment.) Also, tips are cash only, which they don't tell you before hand, but thanks to yelp I was prepared.

The only downsides that I saw were that in the relaxation room once you choose a snack or drink there is no where to set you plate or glass down, and no visible trash can, so you're just kind of awkwardly holding stuff while filling out a questionnaire. Also, when I booked the appointment I was told to come 10-15 minutes early to fill out the forms and have time to relax. I arrived 15 minutes early and they were just opening and the receptionist looked at me and said, "You're early." (not in a friendly way). I explained that I was told to come early and her tune changed very quickly, but it was not a nice way to start the whole experience. All in all, it was a nice birthday treat and if you can, ask for Keesha, she was wonderful.

I had a lovely facial here today with Leah. I checked up on Yelp and others werw right. They were friendly, professional and made me feel really comfortable. I love the products they use and the fact that they dont force you buy anything. I would prefer if they would give more massage like other places.

2.5 stars actually,I couldn't bring myself to give 3.  My best friend loves this place, but honestly I don't see the attraction.  I've been twice and both times my massage was middle of the road and they were far too pushy with additional services and products.  Maybe I was there on an off day but the staff was unfriendly and didn't seem to want to be bothered by anyone that wasn't buying more stuff.

Loved this spa!  I wanted to get a massage that was nearby san mateo and found Spa Luxe.  Cute spa, i have never been in a spa that looked that nice. It was kind of like being in a swanky hotel.  All the staff was extremely nice!!  They have a women's room where you change and put your things in a locker and they provide a robe and slippers for you.  And the lounge with the yummy snacks and drinks were good. I got a salt scrub, a tranquility bath and a swedish massage and all were excellent!  i loved the salt scrub and will definitely do that again and the bath was awesome after the scrub.  very relaxing!  the massage was good too.  i had a wonderful spa day. i would recommend this place because this was THE best spa i ever been too! Great service and they sell A LOT spa items there.  i am definintely going back here again!

I decided to try this place based on all the wonderful reviews I read on Yelp.  I booked my appointment for an eyebrow wax and couldn't be more than thrilled. Kim was very thorough and gentle.  She whipped my eyebrows into the fabulous shape it's supposed to be in! The front desk staff was very professional and friendly.. I will totally be back for more!

Went here for a 1 hour massage.  First of all, the owner is sooooo nice.  I didn't even know he was the owner until I was paying up front and he told me.  The masseuse (Maria) gave me THE BEST massage I've ever had in my entire life.  Overall, everyone was friendly and I'm going back for sure.

One caveat: When I walked in the receptionist that told me to change seemed confused and she didn't explain the process of changing and where to go very well, so I was a little confused at first.  But, I caught on eventually.

Are the people here for real?  WOW!  Super friendly, helpful, sincere staff at Spa Luxe.  I went in for a brazilian with my fingers crossed (having had horrific-ouchy-unpleasant experiences elsewhere in the South Bay) and I left happy as a clam.  Leah is by far the BEST aesthetician I've ever gotten waxed by-not only did she make me feel really comfortable, but the wax was practically painless.  I felt like I had been going there for years...Mona at the front desk was a sweetheart as well, very eager to be of assistance and answer any questions.  Oh yeah, and the spa has some great lotions, candles, jewelry, and my favorito-Hanky Panky choneez!  I BIG PUFFY HEART Spa Luxe and the wonderful gals that work there.  Woohoo!  I've suceeded in finding my new pamper place in San Carlos!

Check out this new spa!!!  I had a wonderful caviar facial - - like nothing I had ever experienced before. Jason was terrific and made me fill very comfortable.  The results were fantastic.  It is a new spa-so everything is fresh and clean.  It is a very relaxing environment and I would highly recommend this spa to anyone who would like to treat themselves or a friend to a wonderful day.  It is for both men and women, I think I may even have to plan a special day for my husband and myself!!!!

I will absolutely go back to Spa Luxe.  I bought my mom a gift certificate for a facial and used a gift cert. that I was given.  The service was wonderful; they have all of the right touches and I met the owner who could not have been nicer!  The location is a bit odd, but once you are inside you could be anywhere.  I love the Relaxation Lounge; orange water, goldfish, tasty treats and hot tea.  I am so glad I have found a place close to home that provides wonderful services.

I had a gift certificate for Spa-Luxe.  This is a very beautiful spa where you can see great attention to detail.  I am very happy with my eyebrow tint.  I also bought  "revitalash", a pricey procuct that is said to regrow your eyelashes.  It takes about a month to see the results, but the receptionist who recommended it to me offered a one month return on the product if it doesn't work.  I'll update you later on how this turns out...
