Spa At Norwich Inn the
3 reviews for Spa At Norwich Inn the
I went here for a spa day, sometime in late winter. Overall, I really liked it and here's how it went down - The Good, the Eh and What I'd Watch Out For.
The Good: I like that they offer an exercise class in the spa package; an endorphin high improves the whole day. We did a cardio class, which was easy enough to adapt to the group's various fitness and coordination levels. The instructor was fun and, remarkably, not annoying.
The European Facial, which included massage and extraction, in addition to scrubbing and moisturizing, was fairly intense and I liked the results.
The pedicure was thorough, there were lots of great colors to choose from, and my nails lasted a good long time. And it's so much nicer to dry your pedicure in the quiet room here than at a salon. Very chill.
The Eh: I didn't love my lunch. But I liked that I could have lunch on the premises with minimal hassle. And it was nice looking out the big pretty windows at the bleak landscape and feeling all warm and pampered. I'll order something less ambitious next time.
Watch out For: Booking on the phone - I got the new girl and she got overwhelmed. I had to point out certain info that was on the website, that kind of thing.
Also, the reading material they have is kind of lame and the products in the locker rooms, etc are generic. They smell nice, but they are nothing special.
If I did it again, I'd plan time in my day to check out the gym too.
Super-caveat: Online reviews of the Inn itself are awful. But the steam room and sauna, whirlpool, pool and locker rooms were very clean and in excellent condition.
Had a gift certificate for a spa day the the Norwich Inn. It's a lovely hotel; the spa is no exception. But for a day that was a pricey as it was, my massage was the most lame I have ever experienced. It was short. It was not deep at all. It was akin to having your husband rub your back - very nice, indeed, but not a quality massage. For the money, I'd much prefer a massage in East Lyme at Body Kneadz (yes, a goofy name, but a GREAT massage).
I think the spa has had it's hey day. It's nice but I think it could use updating. We went the weekend after Thanksgiving and the area surrounding the spa is BLEAK. You can see Mohegan in the distance but good luck finding much of anything else besides gas to flee. I know, I know, that is not the spa's fault but I did not like staying over and feeling like I was on lockdown unless I bundled up and drove at least 30 minutes. You can't get a package on a Sunday either. They are not offered fyi. So we arrived and went to the pub(4 tables and a tv) and were snapped at by the bartender when we asked for a waitress. Apparently, we had not waited the obligatory 20 minutes. These people are in slow motion. I understand relaxed but I am pregnant and hungry all the time. MOVE it. They served our clam chowder lukewarm and then our artichoke and spinach dip with 5 measley little stale crackers. I think the artichoke ran through the dip because it was not in it and the portion of dip was sufficient for 3 crackers. $40 with one glass of wine...not mine, of course. CRAZY. Dinner entrees started at $40 so I ditched and drove to Mystic. It's one thing to pay for a good meal but after the pub and a crappy $20 breakfast(cold toast, drippy limp bacon, OLD potatoes) I was not taking a chance. They even took the $6 wine from the pub and made it $12 for dinner. CHEESY. Anyway, best massage I ever had and the pedicure was great as well. I loved yoga and the pool was cute. Again, the spa was not bad but not fab and the inn stunk!
