Review from Morgan C.
Mission, San Francisco, CA
My knee gave out during my bicycle trip down the Pacific coast. I ended up in North Bend midafternoon sad, tired, and disappointed. I knew that my cycling was done, but I had no idea how I was going to get home. So, not knowing what else to do, I went to the hippy coffee shop in town.
I was expecting to get a decent cup of coffee, and maybe a pastry to sooth the pain. I got this, as well as good company, great advice, and a solid cheering up. I ordered a cup of coffee and a warmed cinnamon roll with butter on top. Normally I don't try to go that over the top, but it was the best cinnamon roll I've ever had.
As I ordered, I described my plight to the staff (a mother and son team). The mother helped cheer me up, while the son was helpful in pointing me in the right direction to solve my problems. He recommended checking out Craigslist's rideshare to see if I could get a ride back to San Francisco, and lo and behold, there was a guy with a pickup leaving in the morning. He recommended the best cheap motel in the area for the evening, as well as a good bar for pizza and beer.
Although my trip was over, Sozo's excellent staff provided me with everything I needed to lift my spirits and end the trip on a good note. What more can you ask for from a cute coffee shop on the Oregon coast? -

Sozo's feels a little out of place in conservative Coos Bay/ North Bend, but in a good way. It is fairly near the Coos Head Food Store, Coos Bay/ North Bend's version of a co-op. You can grab coffee and a nice sized apple for under 5 bucks between the two locations, not an easy feat.
Sozo's has the best coffee and tea in town, if not the best atmosphere. They used to have this cool couch in the middle of the shop with a table of post secret books which were really fun to check out while enjoying my latte, but sadly the couch and books are now gone.
Sozo's has unique and tasty baked goods, and open mic nights on Friday nights. I was able to arrange a private performance night in the back room at no charge which was amazing. Staff are friendly, and the owner frequently works the register. I think they have free wi-fi but not positive.... -

Impressive little comfortable coffee shop that happens to have excellent food choices! I love the people, the atmosphere, the coffee and the feeling I get when I go in. Becky knows how to make every customer her most important one of the day!
Whether you're in a hurry, or need some time, Sozo Tea & Coffee House is most accommodating!
I guess what I love most is that it's a place "anybody" can feel perfectly comfortable in. :) -

I prefered Sozo's back in 2005, but it's still a nice little retreat from the usual logger and hick atmosphere that's so present in Coos County. At Sozo's, you're bound to meet some at least a few people that are capable of engaging in an intelligent conversation, and to top it off, they have a wonderful selection of beverages and food items.
To this day, I still have not been able to find any sort of recipe for the lovely, cheesy roll that Sozo's calls a "brukko." In fact, I've googled every possible spelling of the word, and I still can't find evidence that this culinary masterpiece exists outside of Sozo's at all! I guess whenever I want to taste a magical brukko, I will have to drive four hours to the lonely little town of Coos Bay and hang out in the sweet little coffee shop for an hour or two. -

They serve a peculiar spiced carrot cake that is very good. It has a bit of a strange taste. The latte was a latte and I should have ordered less foam. There food selection looks great.
The atmosphere was nice and very open. There was a knitting club in the back when I was there which really made the small town feel hit home. -

I'm here almost every day. The owners rock and the coffee is great. If you haven't been there in about a year, definitely go, because the coffee was pretty terrible when the old owners had it.
