I love this place. Been here twice bowled once. The food is on point. The service is always good. The ambience is what a bar should he. Great menu. Great beer list. Love that it's down the street from me. Favorite bar on the Southport corridor.

Nice beer and wine menu. Decent prices. Staff is helpful and nice. This is about all the positive things I can think of.
Woman's bathroom was disgusting...I mean bad. There was what appeared to be dried vomit on the door of the unit I went into.
Food wasn't great...burger was excessively cooked...like black. Was at an event and they put the ranch next to the chicken tenders under a heat lamp...gross.
Probably won't be back...too many turn offs.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Kristen,
Thanks for the review.
I’m sorry we did not meet your expectations. By any chance, did you ask for assistance for the food? If something is not prepared properly, it is most helpful to let us know when it is served so we can fix it. We would prefer to fix the problem and make sure you are satisfied. We don’t want you to leave unhappy. Please give us a chance to rectify the problem.
As far as the bathroom goes, we clearly did not meet expectations. I will talk to the staff about paying closer attention.
It would be helpful if you can let us know when you were in so I can talk to the specific people who did not do their job properly.
Please let me know
Thanks

I'm in agreement with those who love this place! When we came, we got there right as they were opening and they were gracious to go ahead and get us seated. We opted for the patio, and it was wonderful to get to sit outside, drink our pints, people-watch, and visit. They were playing some amazing music and our service was wonderful.
We ate the way you would if you weren't worried about calories or fat grams, and it was great. We ordered some sandwiches that we ended up kind of splitting, as well as some mini-corndogs and mac and cheese. (This isn't the food we would normally order, or I'd be in a bad way, but once in a while it's nice to not worry too much). We enjoyed everything, took home a ton of leftovers (which we drunkenly enjoyed a day or so later).
I'll be back, since I can walk here from my brother's house, but next time, I will definitely want to go bowling! What a fun place, full of cool history and a cool, neighborhood vibe.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 29, 2017
Overall: Great atmosphere creates a fun and humble bar experience.
The good: Fun place to hang out with family or friends, whether it's the pool hall or man-run pin setting bowling. The food is typical bar fare, but there's a good amount to choose from. The decor is inviting and hom-ey, it's like your in a giant basement.
The bad: Service was so-so. She was friendly but at times the time lapses were greater than I would've liked. Prices were a little steep for even just the apps we got.

This place was bumpin' on an early Saturday evening. I'm not a big fan of Lakeview, traffic and lack of parking, gets me revved up. But I was able to find parking a 1.5 blocks from the place, near the Southport brownline station.
The place has a lot to offer -- fooding (yes, "fooding"), drinking, bowling, and pool tables. Upon entering, the pool tables is in a back-room, while the bowling alley is on the side. Bathrooms are located on the second floor, stairs are near the entrance. With all this place has to offer, I think it makes for a good Saturday night spot. Bowling was rather expensive at $40 per lane, pool was more affordable.
For food, I had the ranchero chicken tacos. There were three tacos to the order and it featured shredded chicken, onions, rancero sauce, Chihuaha cheese, lettuce, sour cream, corn tortillas, tomatillo salsa, rice and beans. Overall, a really good meal for around $14.
The pool tables were in decent shape... some pool sticks lacked rubber bottoms, but I can deal with that. There's plenty of shelves along the wall to place your drink while thrusting a nice hard stick and shoving balls in a hole. Spacing between the pool tables was good, but of course watch where people are standing/sitting before taking your shot.
BATHROOM REVIEW: The bathrooms are located at the second-floor. There is a long staircase leading upstairs, where you'll go down a hall. The way things were laid-out, it was like going upstairs to the bedrooms. It made me wonder whether this building in general was residential at one point... Chicago has so much history! Inside, the bathroom was a little dated, but did the trick. Everything was in working order. Sit or squat? Squat!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Lefai,
Thanks for coming into southport lanes. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wanted to comment on your bathroom observation--very astute. Our bathrooms and hallway are really an homage to the place's past. It was a speakeasy and upstairs brothel during prohibition. The nymph mural behind the bar is original and hints at what awaited guests. The bowling lanes were added to give the place "legitimacy".

Solid neighborhood bar. Food is what you'd expect from a bar but each time I've ordered, food has been good. Got the Juicy Lucy burger and fries and previously ordered the chicken tenders, both of which were good and hit the spot. Prices are reasonable and the connected bowling alley is old school and fun.

Amazing bar food and great burgers. We swing by here all the time; the staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious.
Would recommend any burger or BBQ chicken melt!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gabie S.Chicago, IL02Dec 15, 2019
My husband and I have been going to Southport Lanes for years, sometimes twice a week. We are SO disappointed with the new menu. He would always get the chicken sandwich and I'd get the nachos. The wraps were awesome as well. Every server there knows us and knew our order. When I first found out the nachos (which were the best in the neighborhood) were no longer on the menu, I must have had my jaw dropped for 5 minutes. I would always see people around me ordering the nachos so I really don't believe it wasn't selling well.
We don't really like the new menu, so we go maybe once a month now & are giving other neighborhood bars (mostly Schoolyard) our business. We really only go now for the servers because they rock. Amanda is the best!
Please please please, bring back the nachos! I'd be the happiest customer ever.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 18, 2016
One of my favorite bars in the city as it has a down to earth chill/cozy atmosphere, great food, lots of craft beers on tap, relatively not loud and overcrowded, and they have 6 pool tables & bowling.
For food, I recommend the Hotel California and Southpork sandwiches, cheese curds, and burgers.
The staff has always been friendly and the service has always been good. The prices for billiards and bowling are fair for Chicago. Food and beer prices are fair for Chicago as well. Bowling is old school as they have pin setters. Overall, it's a great place to relax, watch some sports, and have a beer & some good food!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Meg F.Chicago, IL2819538Nov 5, 2018
You can't beat the beer selections and prices. 3 Floyd's for $6, Burnt City for $5 (they charge $7-8 at their own brewery.) They have a lot of local options.
Has an old school vibe, lots of cool black and white photos and is accommodating for a larger group. Plenty of pool tables and brightly lit/windows for a cool fall day.
We'll definitely be back and would choose this place over the other dive/sports bars on Southport.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
