Review from Kerry M.
I stopped in here the other day based on the good reviews, and also because I happened to be in the neighborhood and Yelp indicated that they were open on Sundays...
Josh, the owner, was extremely helpful. I needed a last minute "Christmas-y flower arrangement" and named my preferred price range. I ended up with a huge poinsettia plant, and he added some extra to it (think pine, branches, etc.) to make it look more decorative. It was clearly worth more than what I paid him, but he made sure it was where I wanted to be price wise, which was very nice of him to do in the first place. It's a very cute shop, and Josh could not have been nicer. The flowers inside were beautiful, and if I need an arrangement in the future, I'd go out of my way to patronize this store again! -

I love the feel of locally owned small flower shops. It reminds me of the the shops my parents used to drag me too as a kid.
Now that I'm an adult, I actually like going in and getting a random bouquet of some of the seasonal flowers, and talking with the owner. He let me name my price and built a bouquet that didn't look like something you'd pick up from a grocery store. Which is good if you want to look like you didn't wait until the last minute to get some flowers.
They are my new local florist. -

Called in an order for my anniversary and was able to explain in simple terms what I needed. They created a massive arrangement within budget to and to my vague specifications. Southport Blooms took their own creative spin on it and it looked great. Would definitely go back.

I've lived in the City for over two years now and I have never sent flowers to anyone who actually lives here yet. Aside from revealing that I had a love life that was a colossal joke, it also reveals I am a huge cheapskate at times. Flowers? Why don't I just send shredded money? Same difference.
But, Jane at Southport Blooms, who I have never met, is the Northern, floral version of Paula Deen was extremely helpful. Southport frequently offers specials on their blooms. So if you don't want to overdo it, chances are you can get a great arrangement without rupturing your Visa.
I got the 20 tulip special. It well exceeded anything I could have imagined. When my partner received the flowers, I thought they were sent in error. The arrangement was HUGE. 20 tulips plus other flowers thrown in for a very dramatic arrangement.
I recommend calling as opposed to using their website. It's much quicker plus if you get Jane, you'll be glad you did call, their website is a bit slow for an on-line merchant. Even with that, I still say 5-stars! Kudos Southport Blooms! -

John and his team at Southport Blooms just created the most beautiful centerpieces for a brunch event I had this past weekend. It was the first time I'd used them and they exceeded my expectations! All of my guest wanted to know who made these amazing spring arrangements and couldn't wait to take the extras home.
From my phone order to delivery, the process was so easy and I can't wait to use again! Thank you! Thank you! -

I used Southport Blooms for my wedding flowers and it worked out fabulously. The price was very competitive and the florist, Jane is not opposed to helping you work within your budget. Jane really knows her stuff and is passionate about it. The flowers we got were unique but still beautiful and classic. Jane definitely listened to what I wanted during our meeting, but did a great job taking my ideas and running with them as my floral knowledge is pretty limited. The only con (and not really a con, just something to be aware of), Jane is a self proclaimed "luddite" and not into the whole "email thing," so if you want to get in touch quickly, phone or in person is probably the best bet. Jane also has quite the personality, which I loved, but some might be taken aback. Despite her laid back attitude, she is definitely a professional and the shop has a lot of wedding experience.

"Need to buy Mom a birthday gift. Need to buy Mom a birthday gift."
(repeat x 100)
This was me at 830am on the morning of my Mom's birthday. Procrastination, again. You think I would've learned by now?!
After wrestling with random (and somewhat lame) ideas in my head, it dawned on me that my mom has always loved and and all type of flowers. Why not present her with a lovely bouquet?
Based on Yelp reviews. I denied all the florists in the Belmont and Broadway vicinity and decided to head over to Southport Blooms. The lovely lady working asked what I needed (flower's for my mom's birthday, how much I wanted to spend ($25) and if I had any flower requests (anything yellow!). She then went to work, picking out yellow flower after yellow flower as though she already formed a vision in her head. The end creation was beautiful (and HUGE) with a mix of pretty yellow flowers and complementing leaves/greens.
The nice lady (who clarified that she isn't the owner of the shop) was so fun to talk to while she was arranging the flowers AND you can tell that she really enjoys what she does! Also, she totally complimented my driver's license picture (aw!). What's not to love?
FYI - Delivery available - Accept Discover/Amex - Parking on Southport easy on a Friday morning. -

If you want a florist who within reasonable time sends you a proposal after your meeting or for some reason won't call you back to schedule a final meeting to book them...don't go here! I was so excited when I met with John as his enthusiasm for my bridal flowers got me excited about the one aspect of my wedding I wasn't excited to handle. After my initial meeting I left voicemails with the store, on his cell, emailed...and never heard back from him! Perhaps the final product is wonderful but I guess I'll never know as I booked with a vendor down the street who was always happy to return my phone calls and schedule a final meeting. Prices=great. Service-sucks. You get what you pay for?!

I stopped in a couple weeks ago to get a summery bouquet for my boss on my last day of interning for her. I live just a few blocks away and pass by almost everyday, but in the 3 years I've been in the neighborhood I had never walked in. SO glad I did! The owner was soo helpful and picked out perfect flowers for a $20 bouquet. I wish I took a photo, but it had baby sunflowers, bright pink gerber daisies, and a bunch of other beautiful flowers with cute/classy vine-like filler to bring them all together. No baby's breath here!
It was big for the price, and smelled sooo amazing that people walked into my supervisor's office all day long because they could smell them from down the hall! Will be back! -

I don't know much about the price of flowers, or whether this place is priced reasonably, but the owner could very well be the nicest lady in the world. Okay, so maybe that's a little over the top, but she is always friendly and always helpful.
Beautiful flowers meets great service in a very cute little shop.
Go ahead and stop buy, it's difficult to leave without buying something. And that's okay, because every house should have fresh cut flowers once in a while. -

I had my first experience with Southport Blooms this weekend and was really impressed by them.
I was MOH for a wedding and went to SB to pick up the flowers yesterday morning. I got the flowers at 10; the ceremony was not until 6:30. We did not have very elaborate flowers so we felt like picking them up would be fine and it totally was. So I can't speak to their delivery services.
From the bride's point of view, the lady at SB was very accommodating and easy to work with. She made it easy--tell her what colors you want, how much money you want to spend, and she will draw up a detailed price quote. If you want to adjust it, she will find a way.
Ultimately, the flowers were gorgeous, hardy and cheap. If I ever consider the idea of getting married, I would likely go to these guys. The bride went to several places and SB was by far the most flexible, friendly and cheapest option.
Not sure about the credit card thing that Hilary G. mentioned--I picked up some extra stuff yesterday that had not been pre-paid for and I paid with my debit card. So maybe they only take debit? I don't know.
Oh and if you park in the parking reserved for the Ace Hardware a few doors north, be careful--the manager called the towing company while I was in the midst of carrying the second round of flowers to the car. Yeah--how horrible would that have been, a towed car full of wedding flowers?! Glad we dodged that bullet but lesson learned! -

Love this flower shop! Not only is the shop perfectly taken care of, cute, and easy to navigate but the staff is very helpful, honest and friendly.
I have gotten the most beautiful arrangements here that are always very unique. I don't know about you but when I spend around $50-$60 for a host gift or a center piece I cannot stand when it seems like there are 3-4 flowers and the rest is Carnations and baby's breath. Southport Blooms does not do that. They are always classy, unique and their arrangements and potted selections look like you paid a lot more. You can feel safe just calling them to place an order without going in there to select everything and flowerbabysit them. They get it. -

As long as I'm on my wedding review kick, I might as well take a shot at Southport Blooms. I feel like Southport Blooms has so much more to offer and can do so much better, but this past weekend they did not show their good side. A friend of mine got married this past Saturday with a 1:30 start time. While Southport Blooms promised to deliver the flowers by 10:30 that morning, they did not actually arrive until 1:20, 10 minutes before the wedding was set to begin. That is completely unacceptable.
Also, while the arrangements themselves were beautiful and held up throughout the day, I noticed that many of the flowers had broken stems or petals with holes in them (from bugs maybe?). Overall, I was just not that impressed.
They get 2 stars because I feel like if I went and picked the flowers out myself for a casual dinner table bouquet, they would be beautiful and I would be satisfied with their service. But for a special occasion, if I have to rely on the staff to pick the flowers and deliver them on time, I'd definitely go elsewhere. -

Southport Blooms went above and beyond for me. They delivered on time and were extremely friendly over the phone. Most importantly, my grandmother loved the flowers that I sent her!
I will definitely use them the next time I order flowers!
Thanks Southport Blooms! -

I really wanted some beautiful flowers for the start of the fall season. I stopped in Southport Blooms and was immediately taken back by the owner's kindness. She was so sweet and funny. I'm usually not a fan of awkward situations where I'm the only one in the store, but this wasn't awkward at all! I can't wait to go back and shop some more. Such a great shop!

I love this flower shop. The workers are very helpful and if they don't have a specific flower in stock, they'll place a special order for it when it comes in season. They also have stock of actual mistletoe during the holidays. Very friendly and a great selection of affordable Tulips each Spring!

I went here to ask if they delivered out of state (they don't, but apparently there are weird laws about transporting "live" things) but the lady was kind enough to suggest calling a concierge in the state I was looking to deliver to and recommended another shop down the street that DID deliver there. She was also happy to let me browse the shop for the kind of flowers I wanted to order. I have also received flowers from them and they have always been just beautiful and lasted a long time...Yay Southport Blooms!

I love flowers. They make me happy. And this store makes me very happy as well. The last time I went, a lot of pretty baskets, bouqets and plants were sitting outside, all tempting me to buy each one of them! They take good care of this store, and they have some gorgeous arrangements. Lots of seasonal items, including festive looking fall colors filling the store with a nice aroma these days.

This is a great flower shop; the staff is pleasant and helpful and there is a diverse selection of flowers and plants to boot. I can't arrange flowers to save my life but I always walk out with beautiful arrangements. As Caroline R. mentioned, they make sure to ask your price range and what you're to create; the result is always better than what you had in mind. You'll definitely walk away with a smile on your face...

This is a lovely flower shop - they always have the most gorgeous blooms and unique arrangements. And the staff is super friendly and accomodating. Although I miss the old friendly cat that used to live in the shop - I think he passed away a few months ago. I always love it when people have animals in their shops.

I love this place! The ladies that work there are so sweet and always make me the most beautiful, creative arrangements that last at least 10 days. Such a cheery place to stop into when walking my dog along Southport! P.S. I think the prices are super reasonable too!

I went to southport Blooms for a special order for a special occasion. It just so happened that I was supposed to pick up the order on a snowy, snowy day. John from Southport Blooms called me and offerred to deliver the flowers to me because of the weather. I've never had this happen before where someone offers a service just out of the kindness of his heart! Yay Southport Blooms.

i've had some wonderful experiences at southport blooms, beginning way back when it was on the corner of waveland and southport, and following its migration down the block. i love that you can wander around and make up your own bouquet from their awesome selection of flowers and greenery - or, if you need a little help they're happy to put something together for you - or, if you're in a hurry grab a pre-made arrangement. i've gotten some beautiful vases from here as well - nothing ruins a stunning bouquet like a boring "florist" vase. i've also got a couple potted plants from them which have remarkably survived my "care" for years. i make southport blooms a last-minute stop anytime i need a hostess gift or a centerpiece.

Great flower shop! Excellent and varied selection of fresh flowers and well priced. The woman who was working was so helpful and asked all the right questions: my budget; how big are the vases; what colors are dominant in the rooms where the flowers will be. Of course the entire place smells fantastic but it's so nice to have a great flower shop in my neighborhood.

After moving from NY, seven years ago, it was difficult to find a florist who (a) made a wide assortment of arrangements, (b) was affordable and (c) friendly. Southport blooms really has it all. I've requested "funky" and "traditional" pieces and they've been spot on every time. The flowers are very fresh and the people are extremely helpful.

You won't find a better florist in town. I go to these guys everytime I need to order flowers. They do a terrific job and the flowers always seem to last for a long time. I also really like the fact that they treat you like they truly appreciate your business. That's something you don't always get these days.

I have always enjoyed having this pretty and charming shop as part of the neighborhood and have gotten some very lovely flowers there previously. However, my most recent experience has left me with such a bad impression that I don't think I'll go back. I stopped in 2 weeks ago to order a specific plant for a friend for Xmas. I was left with the impression it wouldn't be a problem to have the plant in time. After not hearing from the guy I spoke with for a week, I called to check in. He said he was having trouble finding it (although why he didn't proactively contact me to tell me is beyond me) but had other greenhouses to check. Today, 2 weeks after ordering the plant, I called again and was told by the guy he couldn't find the plant and that he "meant to call me." And he actually called the situation "a bummer." I feel like local businesses best chance of beating larger flower shops or places like whole foods is to have good customer service. And I don't consider being told that they -- after 2 weeks -- won't have my plant for me for the Xmas gift and that it's "a bummer" good service.
