South Yuba River Trail and Campground
1 review for South Yuba River Trail and Campground
This is a terrific place to go car camping. It's about 11 miles away from Nevada City, located just off the South Yuba River. There are 16 campsites for tents or RVs, with piped water, picnic tables, pit toilets (for those weirdos who prefer not to pee in the woods), and fire grills. We managed to gather enough firewood to tide us over for one night, no purchasing necessary (although there was a place close by). The sites are mostly spaced far enough away from each other that you can barely see who is next to you, and it's only $5 a night. First come, first serve, no reservations.
You have to hike a little over a mile to get to the river, and if you venture off the beaten path enough, you have (what feels like) the whole place to yourself -- for us, even at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend.
Lovely water, great stars, quiet... well, except for the teenagers we saw having sex (but, actually, that wasn't at the campground). Cautionary note: you may *think* you're alone, but there may be a trail going up the hill above you!
