I just moved here 2 weeks ago and have been orienting myself and discovering Miami Beach by taking long bike rides around town. Today, South Pointe Park was my discovery! It's beautiful!!! I immediately thought that this would be a great place picnic! Great paved pathways, very clean, cute food stand, public bathrooms, amazing views! Perfect!

I want to go back every day now! Seriously worth checking out!

This park is incredible. Years ago it was great just as parking lot and protected dunes. Now after construction it has become an ideal place to run, bike, picnic, and bring your family.

What really makes this place unique its its location right on the outlet of the port of Miami. You can watch for hours as festive cruise ships and giant cargo ships float by. From this location many of the high-rise apartments located on South Beach are visible. Its truly a majestic place to admire Miami's modern art deco architecture.

There is a futuristic playground with rubberized floors that "give in" when you walk on them. Conveniently near the playground is a snack bar complete with cold beverages and healthy snacks.

The landscaping consists of well placed palm trees and meticulously manicured lawns. At night the LED posts come alive and its simply awesome. You can also admire the futuristic sculptures throughout the park.

Some friends and I took the "bouldering challenge" in which we challenged each other to how far we could make it out on the jetty. Only two of us made it to the end. We survived with mere flesh scrapes from the barnacles. But it was worth it for the pride.

Be warned there are plenty of razor sharp barnacles when you get about half way out. Also people we met have had great luck fishing near or on the jetty.

I think this would be a perfect place for a music festival (WMC event??). Enjoy

This is a great place to walk to and spend time at here at the southern tip of Miami beach.  I snorkel here and over they years have come here with local friends and visitors to swim with all of the fish and yes smaller sharks.  It was here on the rocks that one of my good friends caught a hammer head shark (on the non beach side, I have NEVER heard of a shark attack on south beach). One of my old friends and I used to go to wet willies and get drinks to walk down here and sit on the rocks and watch the ships come in and out of the harbor. Ideal at the end of a work day in Miami.
Recently, the end of the Halloween half marathon was located here, which was a bit crowded, but gave beautiful scenery to the runners, not that I could really focus by that point.
For tourists and locals the beach on one side, and the sea wall with restaurants and bars on the other makes this a nice place to visit.
FYI there always seems to be a solid police presence here.

This is the kind of place that made me want to move to Miami.  Grab an Art Deco bike and peddle down there.  Once you've had your fill ogling the beautiful boats, swing over to Joe's Stone Crab take out window for a few claws you can polish off on the grass outside.  It's a little slice of utopia and well worth an afternoon stroll.

Kid friendly and dog friendly with an ocean breeze and great view.
It's a postcard Miami Beach park.
A nice path next to Government cut lets you watch the Cruise ships come and go.
The kids playground is modern and stylish.
    The pier is a highlight.
As is the view of the sunset over the cityscape.

As I jogged down the picturesque stretch of sidewalk along South Pointe I marveled at the beauty that hugged me at both sides. To the right, short barrier rocks offering unobstructed views of a clear blue coast and the luxurious Fisher Island. On the left, ample grassy area spotted with parents and kids, dogs and their humans, and cuddlesome couples.

"Lovely Day" kicked on in my headphones and I thought, Bill Withers never had it so right.

A little further down the walkway, foodies gathered at Smith & Wollensky for a late afternoon cocktail and bite. It might not get any better than this for waterside dining and overall ambiance. Then at the very end by the closed pier, the water meets the sand and kids with kites, dogs off-leash, and basking sun-bathers catch the last bit of sunshine.

Everything was perfect. Then, on my way back, I forgot about the random inclines in the sidewalk creating an uneven surface and as my foot hit the unleveled cement so did my body. So yes, I rolled my ankle and limped all the way home. Alas, an almost perfect afternoon run.

Small and unpretentious. The views are stupendous with usual gentle breezes that reward t-shirt, shorts, and flip flop bearers. And just off enough the beaten path to avoid your usual tourist crowd. A true gem in SoBe.

Just watch out for the dog poop areas.

Beautiful open multi purpose public space.  Great place to walk/ride a bike through on the way to and coming back from a nicer, more low key, section of what is south beach.

2 deco bike stations, one at either end make for a quick and easy trip.

Relatively cleaner compared with other sections of the boardwalk, walkway, less dog sht primarily.

It's worth knowing if you are dog owner living in the "South of Fifth" neighborhood that there is an off leash area for dogs at the West end of the park (just behind the Apogee building).  I've been told that the South of Fifth Neighborhood Association won this amenity recently for dog owners.  There are rules limiting the off leash hours posted on the signs in the area:

Every day from sunrise to 9AM
    Weekdays 5PM - 7PM

This is the park to visit if you're looking for a great view on South Beach.  I love walking the dog there, people watching near Smith & Wollensky or just passing through to hit the beach.  The cruise ships that travel in and out of Government Cut are quite fun to catch too... I don't think you can get any closer to them anywhere else besides the port itself.

What a park! Okay, the parking is annoyingly spendy ($20 for an attended lot) and the parking lot is pretty far away from the beach. But the beach--oh, the beach! It's clean, never horribly crowded, and gently sloped so that even the littlest kids can safely play in the surf. There's a funky lighthouse-shaped lifeguard stand right at the entrance, so if you want a little extra supervision, it's yours.

The park itself is also cool, with public showers for rinsing off (not as gross as they sound, since they're more like a fountain or water feature than showers) and tons of green space. Parking annoyances aside, this park rules. I can't imagine elbowing through the crowds of tourists just a mile up the coast when this beach is so pleasantly laid-back.

    Five stars.

South Pointe Park is easily my favorite, absolute favorite spot in Miami.

It has the zen, without the yoga. The meditation, without the guru. It has it all. Pooches running about, families all over, tourists aplenty. But sitting there and staring out on one of the benches at the water, you forget it all. You forget you are in this crazy city and it's just you. And its as if, the longer you sit, your problems start to dissolve away. It is nature at its finest.

And to make it extra special, grab a nearby coffee or lunch at Joe's. But it's special enough on its own.

This park is beautiful. Before I came here I honestly believed that South Beach was where the freaks go to party it up. However, I was wrong. This park, located on the southernmost tip of South Beach, is absolutely amazing and very family friendly.

Parking can be a problem, but that is what keeps the masses from coming here. Atmosphere = chill (romantic if you are with your significant other). For the 4th of July we sat on the beach and could see all the fireworks along SoBe. We could also watch the fireworks coming from Biscayne Bay.

I cannot believe I have been in Miami all this time and did not know this park was here. Shame on me! It is a relatively small park but it is on the water. Super plus. They was a good breeze and the sun wasn't too harsh (I went yesterday in the early afternoon). There are a lot of shady spots if you wish to escape the rays.

There is adequate parking for the size of the park and you pay by the hour... boo! Then again, where don't you pay to park on South Beach :-/

The landscaping is beautiful and well kept. No trash anywhere, no dog poo, no loud, unruly kids. I walked around before I decided on a spot and noticed the Smith & Wollensky... will be trying that soon! The park has beach access and and a Blissberry if you desire to wet your throat. There is a great view of some luxurious residences across the water. everything really felt at ease here. So at ease, I started to fall asleep when I was supposed to be studying!

I have absolutely no complaints here and will definitely be returning. Maybe even today! :-)

Over the years, coming to Miami, I would run along South Beach, only to have to stop at the Continuum Condos construction. This time I ran right around the tip of Miami beach.  I really enjoyed it.

For those NYers that are familiar with Battery Park, it did have a bit of look/feel of that area -- but with many more palm trees.  it was nice to stop and look out over the water and watch the cruise ships go by.

There was even a manatee floating by the pier.

My only knock -- keep it going.  I got around the tip and headed up the west side along the Bay, and it just stopped.  That part of the loop is not too user friendly when you arrive back on 5th.

parks Planning Commission; my suggestion would be a foot bridge across 5th and along the water up in front of the Bentley Bay -- or at least pedestrian friendly crossing over to West Ave.

South Pointe Park is a beautiful place to spend a few hours relaxing, having a picnic, doing whatever.  There is also a (very small) off leash dog area on the west end of the park, but it's not fenced in, so I haven't seen it been used much.

They have some pretty useless security people there who don't actually do any enforcing of the rules (like littering and picking up after your dogs), which is why I docked a star.  They could hire some people to do a better job and keep the park as beautiful looking as the day it opened.
The great part is that the park is so big that it's never crowded feeling.  You can stake out your spot and be good to go for hours with no one bugging you.

This would be an amazing place to bring a romantic picnic and watch the sunset (or sunrise if you're an early riser!).

Located on the southern most tip of South Beach, this park is a great place to sit back and relax.  From here you get a great view of downtown Miami, you can watch the cruise ships as they pass, or watch the beauty of the evening sunset.

There is a trail that runs along the coast that goes around the park, connects onto the art deco walkway which then connects to the board walk.  So from here you can walk for miles along the Florida coast.

The only bad part of the park is that you have to pay for parking.  It costs $1.25 per hour, and the machines that they have do always work properly.

As it's located in South Beach you're invited to the spectacular views that come along with living in gorgeous Miami. There's always people walking around, even walking their dogs as well.

I plan on going during the day as I'm sure it's even better then. It's definitely a treasure, this park.

This is prob the best park in south florida for people watching/ just overall beauty

wiht the green hills and beautiful landscapes of the atlantic.

The only issue would be the fact if you try to do sunrise you get hassled by a 3rd party parking company.  FYI just park out on the street (its free until 9 am) so you dont have to deal with the parking company who wants 20 bucks for you to park in the lot

a beautiful park made inaccessible to many due to crappy parking.

its a shame. this park really is a gem in miami. its one of the nicest parks i have been to in dade county. the beach is fairly clean. there are patrols to keep things in line. there is even a small waterpark for the kids and snack stand on site. the whole place looks great and is kept immaculate.

why 3 stars then? parking blows goat anus.
after driving around the whole area south of 5th street for an HOUR we ended up bribing the parking attendant at the park with a $20 to let us park in what she claimed was a full lot. how screwed up is that? meanwhile she let two hood rats in a blue vw bug that knew her park for free in whats supposed to be a full lot. utter bullshit. this lack of parking is why me and my $$ don't go to miami beach much.

due to the SERIOUSLY aggravating parking situation i suggest hitting this park really early on the weekend or do it on a weekday.

Best stroll around SoBe with distractions galore.

Everything that you need to have a nice time, however you categorize "nice time."

You're beautiful?  And fun?  Stop by Smith & Wollensky and have a drink at their outside patio, any time, any day.  Good times to be had.

I love Miami and South Pointe Park is a part of that.

If you're visiting the area and want to choose one quick park before getting the drinks on in SoBe, go here!

I been going to this beach since my undergraduate days in 2006. I went back recently and the renovations are awesome. Kudos to the city of Miami for doing some public service right.

This beach is the beach you go to when you want to be near South Beach, but away from the craziness of South Beach. It is much more laid back and way less pretentious. It is nice to bring your family or date here and enjoy a peaceful afternoon stroll seeing the rock pier or sitting on the hill overlooking the ocean.

One negative of this place is parking is a pain in the butt, so carpool if it is an option.

Amazing park for families! This park was renovated about a year ago and it now looks so amazing and can compete with parks in other great cities. About time we had something modern like this. There are benches to see the cruise ships leave, areas for jogging. big open space/ lawn areas with the golf-course grass. This is where Smith & Wollensky is located, try this great restaurant too but watch out for the tourist crowds.
It has great views to the ocean and a path that leads to the beach. it has fountains, great for taking your pets and there is also a great water park for kids on the eastern end. Good luck finding parking around here, if you want to park close it will cost you $$$.

What a great place to come for a stroll through the park, overlooking the ocean. Very clean, park benches throughout. People roller blading, jogging, walking, kids playing in the grass, dogs getting exercise. This park has so much to offer. You can not beat the views, relaxing, clean bathrooms in a building in the middle of the park. On the top of the building they have lounge chairs that you can use to chill and get your tan on.

We walked the whole trail back and forth until we came unto the huge rocks that you can walk out and sit and just meditate listening to the waves coming in while watching the kids play in the sand. What a perfect morning walking hand in hand with your loved one. Enjoying our gorgeous weather outdoors. Life does not get much better than this.

When you live here sometimes we all take it for granted and do not appreciate that this is PARADISE! Within walking distance they have deli's and liquor and wine shops near by. Grab a sandwich or salad or gelato, maybe some wine and take it to the park for a lovely picnic.

It feels like such a spiritual place, calming, relaxing and it just keeps you in such peace. They did a great job with this park. Thank you for having such a wonderful place to come.Tourist, residents, families, kids, dogs, all are welcome. Parking is metered but make sure you keep track with your time, otherwise you will get a ticket. Early morning is the best time to come, plenty parking......

    Heaven on the beach!

I love this spot, and it leaves me wishing two things:

    1.  That I could have seen it before its rebirth to appreciate even more what it is now.

    2.  That Portofino would somehow disappear from view.  (Is this truly not the ugliest building in Miami, if not the world?  It's like Darth Vader mated with a Howard Johnson's.  Seriously, what were the architects thinking?  I pity the people in Apogee who look upon it.  Imagine paying all that money only to see a giant peach-colored penis every day.)

That aside, the location and grounds are perfect.  The people are happy.  The dogs are well-behaved.  I think I heard angels singing at one point.  (They were actually singing something about Portofino being destroyed, but that's another story altogether.)

    my how you've grown...

this has always been my favorite park in sobe.  even when it was just two picnic tables and a bunch of grass it was perfect.  probably because the view is so spectacular and when u get tired of looking at fisher island or the massive cruise ships u can always walk to the beach.  plus it's one of the few spots along our shoreline where u can actually "catch a wave"... during a tropical storm of course.

i miss the days of celebrating someone's bday with a bbq and then topping it off with a session of jumping off the pier.... now that it's all fenced off i don't think anyone does that anymore.  everything that was fun and free spirited about sobe seems to disappear one remodel after another.

i will admit that what they've done has graduated this area to a more family orientated park.  i really dig the area by the bathrooms where kids can play in the water feature because let's face it - what's a park to a kid unless you can piss off ur parents by getting soaked. hey mom what does this button do?  oops.

so hats off to the city of miami beach and the design review board for sprucing up another section of the beach that didn't necessarily "need" it but it makes the beach more tourist friendly.  i guess it's just me but i like the shady parts of south beach... reminds me i am in miami and not disneyland.

This park begs for picnics, for bike rides, for laying out on blankets like in those pictures in college catalogs, and for a working pier.

The pier being under construction is what loses this spot one star. Other than that it's absolutely lovely. The park isn't crowded, offers spectacular views (ocean, Government cut, and city), picnic tables, and access to the beach.

It puzzles me how Smith & Wollensky managed to score the space they have here and I thank our lovely government officials for allowing a private entity to purchase land on what should belong to the public. Yay for the ever diminishing public access to the waterfront.

Thankfully parks like these offer an opportunity to soak in a special slice of Miami. Relaxed, quiet, full of life, kissed with sunshine, and offering a polar opposite alternative to the insanity a few miles north,

    SPOILER ALERT!

So the official grand opening of the newly renovated South Point Park is tomorrow, but my pink bike and I invited ourselves to our own grand opening exploration this morning. I wiggled my way past a fence to find a bunch of people milling about the park as well. THIS. PLACE. IS. AMAZING. consider it the newest haven on the beach. Long, winding paths line the park with a mini water park and benches abound. The views of fisher island and the ocean are to die for. The grass, newly installed, is bouncy and made me want to have a toddler or dog to release into the sprawling hills. The boyfriend and I grabbed a sandwich and sat by the water, soaking in the view. A recession-friendly date, indeed.

Smith and Wollensky also secured outdoor sidewalk seating RIGHT on the  water. I have a sneaky suspicion that it will soon be the newest happy hour place on the beach.

I highly suggest grabbing a beach towel, a book and a frisbee and making  a beeline to the park ASAP.

The best spot on the Beach!
I know I am biased since I live there but the place is awesome!

I usually spend a good deal of time at the beach (in between 5th and the Pier) I snorkel at the jetty where you get to see tons of pretty fishes and then head to the Park to take a shower and enjoy the lounge chairs and dry off.
The view is so beautiful. You can watch the cruise ships leave or see the storms arrive!
There is a nice area/playground for children, showers, fountains or water sprays to cool down from the hot summer.
The city  did a great job in the landscape and I like to walk on the dune or just sit and listen to  my music.
Its a nice place for families, a picnic, walk your dog or just relax.

I used to go to the beach around 7th but a few months back a friend of mine invited me over to this part and I fell in love. Now every time my friends and I make plans to go to the beach, they wont be able to argue the spot or location because we already know where I'm taking us. This park  puts a huge smile on my face, not only because its a beautiful walk to the beach and back, but  after a long day of swimming in the salty water I literally run back to the playground and play underneath the splashy water fountain magigers....yes, its quite the spectacle...me prancing around with a bunch of little kids...what can I say we all have an inner child...sue me!

Also its always fun to be on this part of the beach because not only is it one of the best places to catch the sunset, but you can watch the big cruise ships set sail from port, and pretend you are one of the people waving goodbye....god knows it'll be a while before I set sail anywhere...in the mean time I'll dream of paradise at South Point.

Best place to enjoy Miami Beach without having to deal with the actual beach.

South Pointe Park opened earlier this year and is jam-packed with people walking their dogs, romantic picnics, and little kids rolling down the faux-hills.

It's very picturesque here, and every time I go I feel so peaceful and happy. What a great place to relax, watch the boats or take a walk with a friend or a significant other.

My favorite part is, funnily enough, the fake grass and man-made hills. I'm not one for nature, so the fake stuff is totally my thing. No having to deal with ant hills and dirt like in all the other parks. Kids are always running up the hills and rolling back down - a favorite pastime of mine.

To keep your visit peaceful, be prepared to pay valet in the nearby lots. As serene as South Pointe Park sounds, you're still in South Beach, and metered parking still sucks.

Bring your doggie, your pic-a-nic basket, a blanket and enjoy the wonderful Miami weather in the Fall. :)

Wonderful place to people watch, see the sun set over the Miami skyline, or check out the cruise and cargo ships coming and going through Government Cut. While there are very few times of the day when your dog is welcome off-leash, he is always free to visit the park with you on lead.

My honey and I frequently pick up a bottle of wine or champagne and cheese and crackers and bring our pup and a blanket to this gorgeous park. From atop the hill on the east end of the park you can see quite far. Another good spot is on the rocks where the ocean meets the land. The park is always very clean.

With wide sidewalks all around, this is also an excellent area to bike through. You can ride up and down the man made hill and ride out of the park and down the bayfront walkway by Monty's restaurant. Come back around and bike to the oceanside, where you can pedal past beautiful new condos and down to Nikki Beach, or cycle through the sand if you have a mountain bike.

South Pointe could benefit from more parking as on weekends when Smith & Wollensky gets crowded it's sometimes difficult to find a spot. I would also appreciate concrete tables where you could play chess or board games while soaking up the sun.

Great job on the City of Miami Beach's part by building such a friendly and freely accessible park in the heart of an urban area!

This is one of those true gems we have in Miami that allows us to enjoy out great outdoors and the ocean front -

Great views, to hang out, stroll, picnic and bring your dog and good friends and spend some good quality time here.

My experiences here have been both pretty memorable and not exactly in a good way - the first time, our car got towed because we parked by Texas de Brasil and strolled down to the park
The second time it was the painful end to the Miami Beach Half marathon -
But I don't hold either one against the park -

The facilities are nice and clean and there is nothing like a good ocean breeze coming through to remind us all why we live in the shores of the Caribbean Sea.

The possibilities are endless; go to dinner in any of the wonderful restaurants in the area and then stroll up and down the park, come out with friends and picnic, go to the beach and then head out to the park for a good palate cleanser and a place to clear your mind.

If you can catch one of those Yoga classes in the park - you'll be set for life.

Get your chill on, take a family, or a date for sunset.

Very well designed, fun for the kids with water park provided, watch the ships roll by.

For dates go up on the bridge and watch the sun set over the city of Miami.

Stunning. Breathtaking. And that's not just the $15 parking they charge on the weekends.

It is only fitting that the best beach on South Beach is now next to the best park in...Miami? It's a strong contender, with its spectacular views of the ocean and bay, neatly trimmed grass (what kind of grass is that? It's not St. Augustine), water fountains to play in, and its overall Zen feel.

Hopefully, this will remain South Beach's best kept secret.

South Pointe Park is a hidden gem on the farthest tip of South Beach, it's located a block away from Joe's Stone Crabs and Nikki Beach. I just recently discovered this public park a few months ago and can't believe I hadn't found it sooner.

South Pointe Park is a park on the beach coast thats right on the southern tip of Miami Beach, you can literally see the cruise ships from the Port of Miami pass you by here. It's not suitable for sunbathing or swimming since huge chunks of rocks on the shore discourage you from doing so. It has a beach walk that provides amazing views of the waterfront and leads to a fishing pier. Lotsa families come here, romantics, joggers, dog walkers, and diners from the nearby Smith & Wollensky's steakhouse that sits right on it (who passed that zoning law?). I was here just for the sunset and it was amazing, I would say even more of a gorgeous view then what I saw at Key West in Mallory Square.

PS: This is a great place to have a small picnic, preferably take-out at Joe's Stone Crabs. Just find a stone slab to sit on and snack, watch the view. Public parking is expensive here, the meters are constantly occupied.
PPS: Miami Beach's municipal website is the worst. I couldn't find any mention of the site there so I resorted to Google. For some reason Yelp doesn't show it on their google map, tho' http://Google.com does.

The newly renovated park, is stunning at night.

I love the giant red and white light pillars all along the walk way. A lot of small paths for walking or skating and even an observation deck.

Great ocean views and artificial hills, make for a romantic setting.
Definitely check it out if your visiting Sobe.

There should be more pares like South Point in the Beach area.

I would love to mark this a 5 star posting but unfortunately the city of Miami had to go screw it up. The park itself is awesome. Great views of the Port of Miami and the city, a nice walk to the southern-most point of South Beach and overall just a relaxing place. It used to be kind of difficult to find parking but now is ridiculous. The City of Miami now has taken away all but like 8 "pay by the hour" parking spots and turned that whole lot into $15 flat rate. And they are there pretty late. There is no way I'm going to pay the $15 to hang out for an hour or two, or to just take a nice stroll or run.

    Park itself - 5 stars!
    Parking - 0 stars!
