FORGET the tourist spots in SoBe!! This place is the bomb diggity!! It's so nice and peaceful, yet there's a great beach culture that's good for friends and families to really have a great time. Everyone seems to be having fun and enjoying the beach and one another's company as opposed to hoping to be seen. The lovely manicured grounds are a plus--beautiful and picturesque. The view from all angles is breathtaking. For a moment, I almost felt like I was in Puerto Plata, DR.
Parking is a lot better than the main areas of SoBe and where exactly do you access the beach? Right in front of where you park! How logical is that~!? Not so common in the area, so the convenience of parking (actually being able to find a space in the first place) and being a few steps from the beach is great. The walk to the shore is beautiful. Not overcrowded at all (at least when i went last Saturday). The view of the cruise ships pulling out of port is actually pretty cool too, not a nuisance as you'd assume it would be. I don't think I will be going to the other end of the beach very much anymore, unless it's to show visitors around.
The only disadvantage is that if you pay for parking and have in mind to get in the water for a few hours then walk around the SoBe shops, it kind of stinks that you have to find parking elsewhere and pay again because this area is a bit far on foot from the main shopping areas. I think you pay like $10 for 8 hours, but the likelihood of using that much time on this end of the beach is very low.
Enjoy beach tranquility at its best without the swarms of tourists! Perfect place for a nice walk as well.
There is a small disclaimer: I went right as it started raining (which of course cleared up in no time), so you can imagine people started to leave before I made it to the shore.
I used to go to the beach around 7th but a few months back a friend of mine invited me over to this part and I fell in love. Now every time my friends and I make plans to go to the beach, they wont be able to argue the spot or location because we already know where I'm taking us. This park puts a huge smile on my face, not only because its a beautiful walk to the beach and back, but after a long day of swimming in the salty water I literally run back to the playground and play underneath the splashy water fountain magigers....yes, its quite the spectacle...me prancing around with a bunch of little kids...what can I say we all have an inner child...sue me!
Also its always fun to be on this part of the beach because not only is it one of the best places to catch the sunset, but you can watch the big cruise ships set sail from port, and pretend you are one of the people waving goodbye....god knows it'll be a while before I set sail anywhere...in the mean time I'll dream of paradise at South Point.

Best place to enjoy Miami Beach without having to deal with the actual beach.
South Pointe Park opened earlier this year and is jam-packed with people walking their dogs, romantic picnics, and little kids rolling down the faux-hills.
It's very picturesque here, and every time I go I feel so peaceful and happy. What a great place to relax, watch the boats or take a walk with a friend or a significant other.
My favorite part is, funnily enough, the fake grass and man-made hills. I'm not one for nature, so the fake stuff is totally my thing. No having to deal with ant hills and dirt like in all the other parks. Kids are always running up the hills and rolling back down - a favorite pastime of mine.
To keep your visit peaceful, be prepared to pay valet in the nearby lots. As serene as South Pointe Park sounds, you're still in South Beach, and metered parking still sucks.
Bring your doggie, your pic-a-nic basket, a blanket and enjoy the wonderful Miami weather in the Fall. :)

The park is just okay in my book. I think this is a more pleasant park to go to at night than in the day (unless if it's winter in Miami). There's hardly enough shade to protect you from the scorching sun or heat. When I went there wasn't much of a breeze either so that may have been another factor.
In the picnic area, I saw a big family huddled together into a tiny shade given by a palm tree. That was enough of a warning sign for me and a sign of poor planning by the City of Miami Beach since I could not even see another part of the park where they could go to for reprieve unless if they went indoors - defeating the purpose of the park.
However, I do acknowledge that it's an improvement over the old park since it feels safer and the paths are smoother (perfect for rollerblading). But there is still potential for more as there are parts of the park that feels empty other than for the paved sidewalks.

Because of the rocks that form the pier, this beach spot is probably the most popular surfing beach… Read more »
The newly renovated park, is stunning at night.
I love the giant red and white light pillars all along the walk way. A lot of small paths for walking or skating and even an observation deck.
Great ocean views and artificial hills, make for a romantic setting.
Definitely check it out if your visiting Sobe.
There should be more pares like South Point in the Beach area.
I absolutely LOVE this park! Hands down one of the best places to enjoy your day with children, friends, family, dog, or a book!!!! I spent this past Sunday here with my niece, nephew, mom, sister, and friends. We found a great corner spot under some trees and spread out the blanket for a cozy picnic spot. The breeze provided by the ocean and government cut was priceless. The sun peeked through the leaves shadows every now and then keeping it "real" for a Floridian Sunday. My nephew took off his shirt and flip flops and played soccer with some local boys in the main field. My niece sat with the girls and chit chatted with us as we enjoyed the scenery. The kids all rolled down the lush hills then ran through the water gym to cool off then quickly ran to the jungle gym to have an excuse to have to "cool off" again. "Rocky" mingled with other dogs and was in doggy heaven. We strolled the path that leads from South Pointe Park all the way passed Smith & Wollensky and around. We arrived at 12:00pm and stayed until sundown. Never once getting bored or tired of the scene. It was a perfect day because the park was a perfect setting. This park is good and entertaining for any one, any age, and to do any thing you have in mind.

The best spot on the Beach!
I know I am biased since I live there but the place is awesome!
I usually spend a good deal of time at the beach (in between 5th and the Pier) I snorkel at the jetty where you get to see tons of pretty fishes and then head to the Park to take a shower and enjoy the lounge chairs and dry off.
The view is so beautiful. You can watch the cruise ships leave or see the storms arrive!
There is a nice area/playground for children, showers, fountains or water sprays to cool down from the hot summer.
The city did a great job in the landscape and I like to walk on the dune or just sit and listen to my music.
Its a nice place for families, a picnic, walk your dog or just relax.

I had read some many good reviews about this park that I decided to check it out with my hubby and our new pooch.
I loved everything about it. The layout is so serene and peaceful it makes u just stop, feel the ocean and Thank God for what he has created.
The sunset is breathtaking and it sure is a place to relief the stress of the everyday routine.
Def a place I will be going back to. My pooch loved it too, he met a couple of new friends and was so tired by the end of the night he went right to sleep.

Finally Miami has a nice park where you can relax and enjoy the views, run under the splashing water fountains, enjoy a picnic by the bay, or even exercise you butt off. I love to walk there with my Frenchie Apollo, and just relax. I love being outdoors and breathing in the fresh air without hearing cars zoom by!
So if you like to be outdoors and you want to get away from all the city noise, i highly recommend this park. Just respect the park and keep it CLEAN!

A unique park located in the miami beach area which has great views of the downtown miami skyline and government cut (where all the cruise ships and cargo ships enter and depart the port of miami). There is a nice long stretch of concrete sidewalk to exercise.
There is a Steakhouse/seafood restaurant located in the middle of the park in case you got hungry.
Some words of advice when planning a visit to the park...Try to visit on a weekday becuase it is much easier to find parking on a meter and you can park on the cheap. I have heard weekend parking is hard to find and you can be ripped off for parking. I had to go to the bathroom and I could not find a public restroom in the park.
I would recommend visiting the park if you are in the area.
Stunning. Breathtaking. And that's not just the $15 parking they charge on the weekends.
It is only fitting that the best beach on South Beach is now next to the best park in...Miami? It's a strong contender, with its spectacular views of the ocean and bay, neatly trimmed grass (what kind of grass is that? It's not St. Augustine), water fountains to play in, and its overall Zen feel.
Hopefully, this will remain South Beach's best kept secret.

SPOILER ALERT!
So the official grand opening of the newly renovated South Point Park is tomorrow, but my pink bike and I invited ourselves to our own grand opening exploration this morning. I wiggled my way past a fence to find a bunch of people milling about the park as well. THIS. PLACE. IS. AMAZING. consider it the newest haven on the beach. Long, winding paths line the park with a mini water park and benches abound. The views of fisher island and the ocean are to die for. The grass, newly installed, is bouncy and made me want to have a toddler or dog to release into the sprawling hills. The boyfriend and I grabbed a sandwich and sat by the water, soaking in the view. A recession-friendly date, indeed.
Smith and Wollensky also secured outdoor sidewalk seating RIGHT on the water. I have a sneaky suspicion that it will soon be the newest happy hour place on the beach.
I highly suggest grabbing a beach towel, a book and a frisbee and making a beeline to the park ASAP.

WOW! What a nice park Very cool with the serpentine walkway probably being my favorite part You can sit or lay down on one of the embankments and play fetch with your dog The kiddie area looked like a lot of fun and I would have joined in but didn't want to cause a controversy on opening day
I parked at the Marina near fifth and Alton for free and enjoyed the very nice walk around to the park
S & W was humming and like Alice said, they are not going to be hurting for business anytime soon

Yes, it's beautiful.
and clean.
and has amazing views.
and awesome landscaping.
but no dogs off leash. Boo.
But I do understand. I let mine swim at the rocks where we don't bother anyone. Best park to lay in the grass and read a book or relax; the park is super clean and grass is cut supershort so if there is 'something' in the grass... you'll see it!
Kids area is pretty cool. Water fountain and restrooms near kids play area.
Can't wait to go for a picnic here!
It's everything that I have always wished SoBe was. Beautiful, great views, and VERY CLEAN. The grass is amazing (because these guys spend their days pulling out weeds by hand), with almost no trash and no big ant piles like in so many other parks.
There is a small playground for the kids with that spongy plastic surface, as well as a water spray area to get wet with. There are some picnic tables with shade, as well as a raised area with a few lounge chairs.
The park runs on either side of Smith & Wollensky and is a perfect place for a picnic. Some people swung by Joe's Takeaway first and then sat down and ate. The canal that the cruise ships go by is right there, so if you head down around 5pm any day you should see some going by.
The beach is also steps away.
Downside: I wanted to show my husband the park this weekend, and was excited because there is a large city lot right there. However they had an attendant there that was charging $15, no in and out. I imagine they only do this on the weekends.

Finally--a government project in Dade County that resulted in a superlative people-space! Everything here is exquisite: the grass is golf-course-green soft (perfect for bare-footin'), there are hills, a great promenade, incredibly arty, but functional play fountains with joyfully arcing water cascades. Picnic benches, a bike path that runs from the beach to the northern end of the marina at 5th St., a raised wooden deck to lounge upon, and it's still relatively underused--since it only opened in late March '09. A true tropical/urban gem!

Gorgeous. All of the construction was well worth the wait.
A definite must-see destination in Miami Beach. Great walking/jogging path, fountains for kids to splash in and the view, oh the view!
If you live on the beach or are just visiting, South Pointe Park is a *must-see* Recently renovated, this park is filled with locals every weekend laying out on their blankets and tossing around frisbees. I ride my bike here nearly every weekend- weather permitting ;) Pet, child & human friendly

South Pointe Park is a hidden gem on the farthest tip of South Beach, it's located a block away from Joe's Stone Crabs and Nikki Beach. I just recently discovered this public park a few months ago and can't believe I hadn't found it sooner.
South Pointe Park is a park on the beach coast thats right on the southern tip of Miami Beach, you can literally see the cruise ships from the Port of Miami pass you by here. It's not suitable for sunbathing or swimming since huge chunks of rocks on the shore discourage you from doing so. It has a beach walk that provides amazing views of the waterfront and leads to a fishing pier. Lotsa families come here, romantics, joggers, dog walkers, and diners from the nearby Smith & Wollensky's steakhouse that sits right on it (who passed that zoning law?). I was here just for the sunset and it was amazing, I would say even more of a gorgeous view then what I saw at Key West in Mallory Square.
PS: This is a great place to have a small picnic, preferably take-out at Joe's Stone Crabs. Just find a stone slab to sit on and snack, watch the view. Public parking is expensive here, the meters are constantly occupied.
PPS: Miami Beach's municipal website is the worst. I couldn't find any mention of the site there so I resorted to Google. For some reason Yelp doesn't show it on their google map, tho' http://Google.com does.

A couple of years ago, I came down to south beach because one of my friend's was a judge (docs, I think) in the film fest. I had plenty of time to explore this town on my own. One morning I walked down from my hotel (which I crashed at for free--the fest paid for it) to the southern tip of south beach and discovered this awesome park. It's great because you can see sunrises AND sunsets over the water here. (I'm assuming you can see sunrises--b/c I was too hung over to come here early). I wished I had brought my board from California b/c this was one of the only places in Miami that looked like it had some surfable waves. If you look out to the south..you can see many mega cruise ships. While the thought of being stuck on one of these with a bunch of Midwesterners (no offense) is probably not my idea of fun, its pretty cool looking at them. You can also see an assortment of watercraft from a bunch of Skarabs (just like the one Sonny Crocket used to drive!!) and other bad-ass boats and yachts, catamarans, souped=up Coast Cuard cutters, kayakers, all kinds of sailboats, etc. you'll also see some huge oil tankers once in a while. If you look out to the east you can see the beautiful ocean and if you look out to the west you see Biscayne Bay and the numerous office high-rises (and half- empty/foreclosed ) condo towers of downtown Miami. If you look out to the southwest you'll see Fisher Island (an exclusive residential and tourist island that can only be reached by boat, ferry or helicopter. It is the site of one of the original estates of Carl Fisher, who along with Julia Tuttle is considerd one of the founding fathers/mothers of miami beach) ) There are several cool grassy areas to chill at and some rocks to climb on. if your into widlife I saw a bnch of Pelicans chillin out and i'm sure if you wait long enough you may even see some dolpins. If you have little kids, are advanced in age, are not a strong swimmer and/or intoxicated, I would STRONGLY suggest you stay away from the rocks. Because the way the wind whips around the point coupled with the huge wakes that sometimes come in, you could be knocked over and swept out to sea (I used to b a lifeguard--sorry if I sound like your mom). If the whole awesome panorama makes you hungry there are several good eating places right next to the park. I'm not sure about parking since I walked here. Saw a bunch of people on bikes as well.

Oh, whenever he went to his uncle's apartment in SoBe, little Mikey would head to this park on his bike and sit on the jetty, listen to his Walkman, and watch the ships come in and out of the channel. I never did recall seeing surfers, but there were many brave jet-skiers riding the wake of the largest cruise ships. It was amusing. South Pointe Park is a great place to walk about, maybe on an afternoon date after lunch, or maybe alone--I would often be in the latter situation. Adequate benches allow to sit and take a rest, or you can just sit right on the rocks bordering the channel. But beware: the channel is narrow, and a ship's wake will easily bring the water level down several feet. And what comes down must come up. Only in surge form. (Summary: Be vigilant or be wet.)
