We ended up at the wine bar after a less than stellar dinner at a different restaurant nearby. I wish we had got to SouthPark first.
With a low hum coming from the packed bar we ended up in a quiet corner oblivious to the rest of the restaurant. A nice wine and a few appetizers/desserts, we really enjoyed ourselves at South Park. Not too noisy and with a waitress that was attentive but not intrusive.
With fairly moderate prices and no tax for out of staters, it's a nice place to eat whenever you are in the Portland area.

I flew into Portland Sunday just before noon and after sitting in airports and traveling for the previous 5 hours I was ready to rest, relax and get a bite to eat. I turned the corner from my hotel and saw South Park Seafood Grill.
The decor of the restaurant was nice with large windows to bring in light from the overcast sky. I ordered an Oregon Pinot Gris, the soup of the day which was a Curried Potato Soup garnished with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and preserved lemons and the warm spinach salad and chicken breast.
The meal was incredibly delicious and the Pinot Gris was perfectly paired with the spinach salad.
The service was good, the food was excellent and I highly recommend.

Eggplant & Tomato Soup with Warmed Spinach Roasted Chicken Salad paired with an Oregon Pinot Gris.
The soup was the "House Soup of the Day". Basically, it's marinara sauce with a touch of parmesan on top. Bland and then tasty. Even with table bread. No tomato taste. But after a couple spoonfuls, the eggplant with a very mellow taste started to linger a nice after-taste.
Warmed Spinach Roasted Chicken Salad is excellent. Warm spinach, sightly wilted from a saute of sundried tomatoes and red onion that covered the base of the plate. Then, sprinkled with toasted, slivered almonds. And topped with a mallet chicken breast. Marinated, grilled to perfection and sliced.
The salad brought the fruitiness of the Pinot Gris out.
I opted for a large salad and small soup knowing they have a great Lunch Special. Soup, salad and 1/2 of sandwich for around $9.99. But the sandwich choices are limited, tuna or ham & cheese. And noticing my peers in the vicinity, burgers..... salads.....and seafood..... were high sales on that rainy Saturday afternoon. So, I went with the crowd.
Fine idea.

Since our good friend used to work here, my husband and I decided to give it a try for a "date night" recently. It was not only the best meal I think I've ever had, the service was perfect and we were actually surprised at how reasonable the bill was!
We started with a shared salad (very good and just the right size for 2), then wine and entrees, dessert and coffee. My man had what we both agreed was by far the BEST STEAK of our entire lives (New York cut served with pesto gnocchi)...that's saying something, believe me! I had the butternut squash ravioli with hazelnuts...so delicious, I could not stop myself from oohing and ahhing repeatedly. I even dreamed about it that night (no joke!). I think the couple at the next table thought we were insane for all the giggling and "mmm"'s coming from our table. Finally, the creme brulee was perfectly done.
In addition, our waitress was flawless, we were seated right away (6pm, weeknight), the wine list was extensive and appropriate, the timing of food & check were spot on, post-dinner coffee was wonderfully brewed, and we were never rushed or left feeling impatient. I can't wait to go back!!! I don't even hesitate to say this was the best meal I've had in Portland!

Dude.
My dinner tonight was soooooo good!
Ducked in here from the rain, before a movie and wasn't quite sure what to expect.
it was the perfect blend of casual and fancy. We had a nice booth next to the window overlooking our pretty rainy night. GREAT atmosphere. It's hard not to be happy here.
okay let's break it down.
The Highlights:
-Aviator Gin Martini that ROCKED MY SOCKS.
-Excellent Service and attention to detail
-The Calamari and veggies were HUGE!! wow. rockin.
-The Swordfish was fresh and perfectly cooked and it was served with some oniony, mushroomy, garlicy, potatoes and some seasoned greens.
-it's so good, it's hard not to dance a little while eating it. That, my friends, is how you KNOW it's awesome opossum.
The Low-lights
-The calamari was almost TOO fried tasting for me. And though the veggies that came with it were good (also fried), it confused me a little to have a bunch of fried veggies mixed in there. Don't make me dig through my calamari dish to find the actual calamari part! I don't play that shiz. But i will say the quality of the squid overall was impressive.
-they seem to skimp on their pour of Maker's.
-that's it really. i could make some stuff up, but to be honest....i really loved it. Plus how can you NOT love a nice seafood joint with "South Park" in the name?
Answer.
you can't.

I was disappointed when I couldn't meet my friends at South Park last week. Well, it turns out I had another friend the following week that wanted to check it out.
We started with a bottle of Pinot Noir (my favorite red) from a Yamhill county vineyard. We remarked that while it's a close place to us we have never been there. I made a mental note to try more local vineyards.
The cheese plate appetizer was excellent. A nice variety of cheese, fruit and nuts.
Then we moved onto the entrees. The entrees are served without the salad, however, you can order a salad at an additional expense. We elected not to because of the fabulous cheese plate.
I had the King Salmon which was excellent and a portion I considered just right. My friend chose the scallops which were equally tasty.
We thought briefly of dessert and while they looked great ultimately we were too full to consider them.
Nice attentive wait staff. That's attentive but not so much as to be intrusive. It was simply perfect we did not want for anything the entire meal.
The timing of the appetizer and the meal was excellent as well so that you did not feel rushed from course to course.
I'll be back again.

Okay, so I admit I am a little biased. My boyfriend happens to be one of the chefs at South Park. But I love the food there! Love it! I think the service is always great, I adore the wine list, and I think the specials are always delicious and interesting. They have an amazing burger in the bar, and the creme brulee is to die for! I can't say anything bad about the place. Plus, the Sous Chef is a hottie.

I ate dinner here on a recent visit to Portland, and left with mixed feelings.
The 1/2 dozen raw oysters we ordered as an appetizer were nice, but too expensive, and they came out too late (???) to be properly enjoyed w/the sparkling wine suggested as an accompaniment. We each ordered a fish entree off the specials list, and both were good. Our server was gracious and helpful, if stretched a little thin (place was packed).
I suppose it was the crowd that left me a little out of sorts, as I wasn't expecting the prevalence of casual attire (shorts) and number of children at a somewhat pricey place. At any rate, I'd go back, but as a visitor rather than a resident, only after I had sampled a great deal more of the considerable local restaurant scene.

I usually believe that if a restaurant's name consists of a particular type of food then you should order that type of food. For example, if you go to Bill's House of Pizza, you shouldn't order lobster. If you go to Sushi King Restaurant, don't bother with the falafel choice. Lastly, if you go to South Park Seafood Grill & Wine Bar, don't be tempted by the hamburger.
I ordered the hamburger at South Park Seafood Grill & Wine Bar. It was good but unremarkable. Our concierge at the hotel recommended this place for the seafood. I looked at the other fish dishes, and the presentations of the dishes looked nice. I'm sure the seafood was better than the hamburger.
I fault myself for not ordering the fish but I just kind of felt like a burger. I should have saved a few bucks by grabbing a Big Mac down the street and tried this place on a night I felt like fish.

Had a lovely dinner there last night. Server was very knowledgeable: she answered our questions about the fish specials and how they were cooked. She also recommended an excellent bottle of viognier.
My friends had the paella and halibut. Hubby got the salmon. South Park gets the fish and seafood down pat. I had the butternut squash ravioli, which I thought was so-so despite the earlier rave review. Salads were fresh.

The late pre-dinner feel of this place was a little off. I suppose the transition was the cause for it. The service was a little flakey and unenthusiastic, but nothing to really complain about. Lunch on the other hand has been a good experience.
The food has been great any time I've been though. Yum, yum, and more yum! I would definitely be back if only to eat the pre-dinner light fare of pita and hummus. The dinner menu did look good though. The vanilla bean gelato is amazing as well. I've never had anything I really didn't like.
The dark interior wood choice sets off a very chill and almost elegant vibe, and the open windows are awesome as long as there isn't a chilly cross breeze.

Had the butternut squash ravioli here, very flavorful. Would definitely get again. Good wine selection.

I came here for lunch with my co-workers on a snowy day (yes, I did say snow). And although there weren't many other patrons (blame the snow) I imagine it usually supports a big lunch crowd. I had the "Cafe Lunch" -- my selections being half a tuna sandwich, cup of butternut squash soup, and a homemade cookie. It was a large portion and I was barely able to finish it all -- leaving the potato chips mostly uneaten. The sandwich was good, overflowing with fresh ingredients and the soup was tasty and warmed me right up. The cookie left a little to be desired, but I was pretty full by then anyway. My co-workers' meals all looked pretty good, too.
I think the most interesting thing about this restaurant is its use of locally grown ingredients. They have a chalkboard that lists the local farms from which the produce comes. It seems like a good way to be supporting the local businesses.
Overall, I enjoyed my lunch and would return back again. I hear the Happy Hour scene is pretty good, too. I guess I might just have to check that out...
Had a late lunch here during an afternoon of exploring downtown Portland with my baby...we had the salmon cakes as an appetizer..it was good but not spectacular, my man had the chef's special of the day which was sablefish (black cod) with a lemony marscapone risotto: it was great: the risotto really complimented the fish..sablefish was too bony for my preference..I had the paella which was also great.: the chorizo was flavorful and the shrimp, clams, fish were tasty but I didn't care much for the mussels that were in the paella-they were a bit too big and chewy for me..had a wonderful glass of sangiovese while my love had one of the beers brewed in house which he said was good...service was great and the plates were $13-$16 for lunch....
It was the awesome server in the bar that made this place a good experience. The food was mediocre and my prawns tasted a bit on the "fishy" side. The mixed green and goat cheese salad was awesome, but a bit pricy for what it was. The bread was good. My friends were not thrilled with their entrees and both of them said the food didn't sit well with them that night.
The martini was good. I think the prices are a bit high and I don't quite get it, but its not horrible and I would go here again for apps and drinks. The bar is pretty well appointed and stylish, especially in the summer when the door is open to the sidewalk.
I certainly wouldn't turn down a meal here, but it wasn't too spectacular, either.
