We had a very good experience at South Bark with my water-hatin' silly lab mix. It's a pain to give her a bath at home and she truly despises getting wet so I was a little nervous but we had a great time :) The fact that we don't have to clean up piles and piles of black fur afterward is truly fantastic.

The staff was very friendly and helped us pick out the right products (we got the lavender shampoo) and the blueberry facial was a fun treat and smelled great (although my boyfriend disagrees). The products seem to be very natural and the staff is very conscious about sensitive skin, which makes me happy. I appreciated the tethering system, and the unlimited supply of towels + the free spritzes are helpful.

We got the bath half off because we rescued our dog a few months ago, otherwise it seems like the price is a little high for a basic bath ($12). That would really be my only complaint.

The kind of place you really WANT to like: very colorful and cheerful-feeling inside and out, in an up-and-coming neighborhood. The pet food they sell is generally more healthy than you'll find in the big-chain pet stores. They post notices for lost and unwanted pets, and various local animal charities.

But  most of the staff needs an attitude adjustment. They are all pretty much young (not a problem) but don't have any sense of customer service. No greeting at the register, no eye contact, no smile, no "thank you" after sale is done. At the register they work at one speed whether there is one person or eight people in line. They seem put-upon that you are even there, and to ring us up appears to be a painful effort for them.  The owners that I have met are very friendly, so I am disappointed that they don't insist on the same level of service from their employees.

I favor supporting local business, but most of the employees at the big-store chains at least act like they are pleased to serve you. I usually walk in-and-out of South Bark feeling invisible.

Dag nab it!!!

Being a retired navy veteran married to active duty marine currently deployed to hell on earth (Helmand Province, Afghanistan) I wish I would have known about the military discount :(...trust me we appreciate every .50 cents off we can get. But, I digress.

I loved, loved, loved this place. My little Zazzoo and I just moved to North Park on Saturday and after reading all the yelps we (I) could not wait to try out South Bark.

We started our day at Grape Street Dog Park. Zazzoo played with some of the locals and I drank some yummy Dunkin' Donuts Hazelnut coffee. After about an hour  or so we headed to South Bark.

The woman that greeted us was so helpful. She told me about the process, showed me all of the shampoos and conditioners, and since there was one dog ahead of us, she lead us to the waiting area. After about 10 minutes it was our turn. The attendant that helped us and gave Z a complimentary blueberry facial was also incredibly helpful. Everyone that I came into contact with rocked!

When we were done with our bath we wanted to try out the cage dryer and we are so thankful we did. Zazzoo walked out of that dryer, I gave him a quick brush and he looked so handsome, shinny and new.

I bought him a yummy turkey treat and we were on our way to finish unpacking.

We will absolutely be repeat customers!

Thank you South Bark!

I recently moved to North Park and needed a new dog wash since World Famous was too far so I decided to try out this place.  I read lots of good reviews and thought it would be awesome.
Don't get me wrong, it does the job, but they could really use some help.  The place was full of clutter and the tubs are small and awkward.  I don't like their tethering system as it made washing my dog kind of difficult.  They have a wide selection of shampoos and conditioners, which the staff was fully in the know about.
I'm all for supporting local business, but I'll have to pass on this one.
However, the blueberry facial is a nice touch.  I'll have to get in there to buy some of that sometime

Great place. We took our 4 month old maltipoo named Andy.  Got in around 5:30 pm and there was no wait. It was our first time there and they were all very helpful. We brought our own brush to brush him out before washing, although if you forgot to bring yours they have plenty.  We forgot to bring cotton balls for his ears but luckily they had some.  they gave andy a blueberry facial scrub then let us take over washing him. We got our choice of shampoo which was nice. They had everything we needed, aprons, towels and blow dryer (the air was kind of cold though). Lots of treats and pet supplies to purchase too. All in all a great time, we'll definitely be back.

Typical bathing routine at home: trick dog to get into bathroom, wrangle dog into tub, strip down to underpants and get in tub with dog, hose down dog while praying he doesn't start to shake water off, soap, lather, shake, rinse, shake, wrangle dog out of tub, chase around house with towels to dry while dog rubs himself upon every dry surface.

In comes South Bark. My savior. Never again will I wrangle a wet dog off my carpet and bed. I couldn't believe how easy and painless this was. Huge tubs, yummy smelling shampoos and conditioners, tons of towels at your disposal. A blueberry facial even!

The standard $12 wash comes with a few shampoo options, aprons, no conditioner, a blueberry facial, and an endless supply of towels. Extra is needed if you want special shampoos and conditioners or a blow dry.

And let me tell you, the $12 was definitely worth it. Thomas now smells delicious and his blonde locks are soft and silky. I think he even liked the blueberry facial.

I really love this place. They make a fairly un-fun task - washing the dog - absolutely as pleasant as possible. Love the free blueberry facials (for the dog, but I would be open to receiving one), lots of great TLC from the staff to both the dog and its owner. The place is clean and well designed. Fair prices, too.
I drive past at least two self-wash places to get there because it is so much a superior place to wash the dog.
These owners could give seminars to other retailers on how to build a happy and loyal customer base. OK, enough gushing. I'm getting embarrassed.

This is Apple Sox's favorite store. They recommended a raw diet and after a few months on it his coat is noticeably shinier. Plus he gets way more excited about the raw food than he ever did about kibble or canned. We love to stop by after playing at Grape St. park and pick out a new bone or toy and I really appreciate their selection of free-range treats. Oh, I almost forgot! Apple recently got his teeth cleaned here too and they look awesome! What a great place to have in the neighborhood!

Always free natural blueberry treats. I always grab a handful for the car ride home.

Everyone is so nice. The musics always great. Pretty darn clean for a dog wash. And my dog is always so excited to go.

What would I do without this place?!

My roommate and I have a boston/frenchie mix and a pit mix and NO TUB.  Which makes at home doggy washing nearly impossible.  South Bark Dog Wash is our usual spot for post beach/park cleanings.

There is usually a tub available when you walk in and if there isn't they have a great courtyard where you can brush all the dirt off before your pup gets scrubbed.  The music they play in there is great - I'm guessing it's someone's ipod (kudos, staff member whose ipod that is!).  The blueberry facial is complimentary and always helps calm nervous dogs plus it helps with our smooshy-faced dogs tear stains.  The staff are always friendly and helpful and down-to-earth.

The prices are very reasonable for a basic wash, and even if you want to throw in some conditioner it's still not a bad price for what you get.  Plus they have an awesome repeat customer incentive where the 7th wash is free.  Woo!  I love this place!

I discovered the South Bark Dog Wash about a year ago when I moved to the area.  From day one the staff has been friendly and knowledgeable on everything from food to shampoos.  Over the summer my little dog started to develop some skin allergies and they have gone above and beyond to help me treat it on my own.

In addition they offer free coffee while you wash your pet, and they team up with a variety of service providers to make it convenient for you to have your pets teeth cleaned, nails clipped, photos taken, or attend training classes just to name a few.

This place truly is awesome!  I have taken kids of all ages there and they love the environment, and I have to say that stopping by there for a bath or to pick up a new dog toy, food, or treat is always something we (my dog and I) look forward to!

I just brough home rescued Boxer named Harley for almost three weeks now, and he needed a bath pretty bad. I got on Yelp reviews and found South Bark Dog Wash. The staffs are super friendly and helpful. I didn't see any free blueberry treats like mentioned from another review. But I bought a bag since I love blueberry and my dog seems to love the blueberry facial. But when I got home and try to give him one, he didn't really recare for it. They also offered half off because I just adopted from a rescue center and was first time customer. The only thing is that they are way too far from my house. So I think I will just go to one that is close to my area. But if you live around South Park, definitely go here.

Love both the dog wash staff and Kate Palese, the trainer (K8's Gr8 K9s) who holds her classes there.  Staff is very nice, helpful.  I've never washed my dog there but mainly have gone for the training, which is held in a large patio area off the side of the store.  Kate and her assistant trainer Jenn are easy-going, friendly, but also serious and committed to helping people cope with and overcome doggie behavior issues.  They even have special classes devoted to "edgy" dogs- those with certain aggression or fear issues.   They throw in some good humor and stories and the classes are even fun.  And the prices are lower or comparable to other dog classes I've seen.

The one issue I've noticed is sometimes there is a little dis-connect or lack of communication between Kate and the store staff in schedluing classes.  Sometimes when I tell the store that I'm going to take a certain class, they have no clue what I'm talking about..but usually it's resolved once they talk to Kate or I explain.

Who says your dog can't get a better quality shower than yourself?

Blueberry facial?!  I need a blueberry facial!!
Immediately after licking her own poop shoot and eating bugs, i get a wonderful dog tongue to the face...and I don't get a blueberry facial.
Perhaps next time we come in, I'll proposition the wonderful staff to replace my face with my dogs when that wonderful sudsy goodness is to be applied.
Thanks also for the nice little doggy water bowl placed on the sidewalk.  I really do get thirsty after chasing said pooch around the Grape Street Dog park for hours, constantly apologizing for the "violations" my favorite canine performs to legs, backs...and faces!? The pervert!

My boyfriend and I are taking our puppy here for puppy classes.  We've only been here once for his first class so far, but we love it!  Great price ($75 for 6 weeks) and the trainer, Jen, seems to be very knowledgeable and attentive.  She noticed we were having some problems with him pulling on the leash and recommended a harness.  The staff even helped us pick out a size and adjust it to make sure it fit right (it works miracles, by the way).

Meanwhile we picked out some food and some nice treats for him to take home with us.  Everything they have seems to be natural and healthy and there's a good selection of it.  I'll have to walk around some more next time and check out the goodies. :).

Oooh, my poor doggy. She looked so sad while getting her blueberry facial, but it made her smell so good. She fought back against the bath by continuously shaking water onto everyhing and everyone, but eventually accepted defeat.

This place is awesome, and very affordable if you use the $5 coupon on the website during the week. I came on a weekend, but oh well. The staff is very helpful and attentive to the you and your dog, and they have harnesses in the tubs ad next to the dryer, which is a giant plus.

I could have stayed home and washed my dog, since she does well in the tub... but taking her here was a lot more fun, my bathtub is still clean, and she got some nice food and a big beef bone out of it at the end. Win/Win for everyone!

It was our first visit there.  Lincoln got his first and not last Blueberry Facial.  He looked at me with that look of "what is he doing to me", but Chris was very helpful and made me feel very comfortable as a first timer there.  As directed by my doctor, I needed to stop giving Lincoln baths in our tub since I was bending and it wasn't good for me.  I looked up to find a good spot on yelp and all the reviews I read about South Bark made me a believer (and Lincoln too).
There was lots of street parking but it's early in the day so maybe you have to time it right or it's like that.  They have all the treats and food that I actually give to my Lincoln.  He is now happy and content and smellin' soooo good and munching on his "After bath snack" - oh I got that from there too!

We have brought our dog here almost every week since we got him more than four years ago. We've occasionally tried other dog washes but the vibe just isn't the same. Even on the weekends the wait isn't usually very long, and the patio is a comfy place to hang out and say hi to the other dogs. Convenient if the morning was muddy at Grape St. Dog Park, too!

Last week, I shared the story of finding a wee lil' chihuahua wandering aimlessly through the streets of Normal Heights. Actually, my girlfriend found him on the drive home... but nonetheless, this little guy needed to be swooped up before an owl zoomed in on the pup for a light evening snack. Turns out, after reuniting the dog with his owner, he was a Russian Toy Terrier and weighted just 3.5 pounds... just to give you an idea of how friggin' small he is!

Upon plucking him from the street, we noticed he was a little dirty and we weren't about to welcome in a stray pet without a proper cleansing. Since we're not dog owners currently, we didn't have the proper tools for bathing a pet. You never know if a dog's skin is susceptible to dryness, irritation or other dermal issues, so we wanted to ensure he got a hypoallergenic wash, so we headed down 30th Street to South Bark Dog Wash.

These people were an absolute God send! Talk about the salt of the earth... the folks running the shop late on a Saturday afternoon were the sweetest, most easy-going and caring individuals I've been around in some time. The TLC they showed my girlfriend, our new little buddy and myself went above and beyond my wildest expectations. EVERY business should try and mold their customer service after the unparalleled kindness of this South Park institution.

Apparently this little mongrel was the smallest dog in South Bark history to ever use one of their tubs. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes waiting to get sudsy, but it was absurd how small this guy was compared to the size of the wash basin. He looked like a lone, brown jelly bean sitting on the 50 yard line of an empty Qualcomm Stadium. It literally took about 45 seconds to completely soap him up and wash him off. Since a ridiculously low amount of product was actually used to clean him up, the crew gave me half off of a normal wash and threw in a can of dog food to boot, for free! I guess the food is of such premium quality, it's suitable for human consumption. The girl behind the counter actually told me that she's eaten it herself in times of hunger and desperation. Not my bag, but good to know!

If you're looking for a truly remarkable place to bring your pet and you're anywhere near South Bark Dog Wash, I think you'd be crazy not to consider making this your new stopping grounds. They wash cats too, if you've got a rank pussy (cat). Trust me, girls (from experience)... there's nothing worse than a dirty, smelly puss.

Zing!

South Bark Dog Wash is a gem in the neighborhood of South Park.  Not only is the stafff professional, but very friendly and caring.  The wrangling routine of washing your pet is just made easy and fun.  I'm a volunteer for  Friends of the Humane Society of Tijuana, a non-profit that gives a second chance to dogs and cats that otherwise would perish on the streets.  South Bark Dog Wash has hosted pet adoption events for this, and many other recue organizations, proving their commitment to the well being of pets and helping these find new loving homes.  Check South Bark's website for it's schedule of events and find out more about the different pet adoption events they hold if you are interested in a new pet.  South Bark Dog Wash brings not only great services it its business, but also amazing community involvement that gives rescued dogs and cats a chance for a life with care and dignity.

Attention cat people!  Although this place is labeled a dogwash, South Bark also caters to feline needs!  I have been coming to South Bark for my kitties vittles and treats for quite a while now.  South Bark stocks food that is actually good for your pet (not just marketed as such) and environmentally conscious pet litter.

Although I have no experience on giving your cat a scrub down (I'm not foolish enough to even try to give my cats baths-I learned that lesson the hard way!), all the dogs look happy.  South Bark's environment is clean and well organized with knowledgeable customer service that is carried forth by people that genuinely care.

Most of all, I love South Bark because of the commitment shown to COMMUNITY.  People and pets matter here and it shows!

Murray, my mutt, loves this place. Well, he doesn't really love taking a bath there but he deals with it. I only have to pay a small fee to have some nice equipment to bathe my dog and not have to worry about a stopped up sink! They have brushes, towels, hypo-allergenic shampoos and conditioners, some complimentary foofoo perfume sprays, detanglers, aprons, and wonderful (can't think of a nicer way to say this because it's not nearly as severe as it seems) restraints so he doesn't try to jump ship. OH and the showers have quite a few nice settings which is good since blasting water freaks my dog out.

Pluuuuuus, the staff is always so kind. Seriously, where do they find these people? They're super sweet to him and give those fantastic facials.

Pluuuuus, they have this special shampoo that gives his fur some extra highlights which have been called "fab-u-lous" before.

It's so mellow. I really like taking him in and it doesn't make his baths a real chore.

I used to be jealous of my ex and her pug because they got to go to South Bark Dog Wash and be pampered with a blueberry facial (the dog, not the girl). So now that I've got a canine of my own, South Bark Dog Wash is the place to be. :)

I'd only been there once before; but after today's muddy visit to the dog park, I had reason to go again! My dog managed to do just fine after the rainstorms we just had and then decided to stamper over to the other side of the park and ROLL IN MUD. I was terrified because his legs were COVERED IN MUD. (He didn't seem to mind though.) So, my boyfriend and I decided it was time to leave. I wondered how we would get him home without dirtying up the car and ourselves... when my man suggested South Bark! YAY! It's right up the street. Let's walk! Let's clean Buki!!!

There was a 5-10 minute wait but they promptly called us as soon as they could. I appreciated all the help from the employees (selecting shampoo, the facial, etc.) I especially appreciated the owner, Donna's attention to my little guy's rash. She is a registered Vet Technician and has all sorts of books and knowledge that she is more than happy to share with you. Of course he's been to the vet about it but since his last visit (only a few days ago), it became more red and she had good advice for me. My dog's favorite part was when she walked around with treats to give him! Thanks, SBDW! We'll be back! (And thanks for all the YELP special deals, that really helps!)

K8s Gr8 K9s is  a good name for it. My husband and I rescued a stubborn Schipperke puppy but Kate helped us teach her to be  a good girl. We took the puppy kindergarden classes and we felt the price was more than reasonable. Our dog learned all of the basic commands plus a couple fun things. She really has a way with animals. Jen is another trainer at South Bark and she is really friendly and patient with the dogs. We highly reccomend Kate and Jen and our dog is planning to attend another class soon.
I have never washed my dog here  because she only weighs nine pounds and I just toss her in the sink at home but it seems cool for people that live in the area and have big dogs.

They have super friendly service and help you out when you are trying to get your doggie clean. Prices are reasonable and all the products they let you use smell soooo good. I would give them five starts if they included the blow dry in the price of the bath, charging separate for it is a little much.

Being new to Yelping, I wanted to review my family's second favorite place in San Diego. The favorite place in town is the Grape Street Dog Park, and my family consists of me, my girlfriend Nicole, and our dogs Ava and Kaya (aka. Stinky).

When I clicked on South Barks page, were we surprised to see that it had 5 stars? Hell NAW (Ava's words)!!

Ava has struggled through many baths, but none of them have been at South Bark - mostly, as the tag line goes, because "Its just a bark from the park." Let me elaborate on this (I guess its pretty simple really). 1) Take your dog to the Grape Street Park. 2) Run him/her out for half an hour until they can't struggle thought a bath. 3) Take them to South Bark for a blueberry facial, eucalyptus shampoo, and conditioner. 4) Give them a treat for being tired and (finally) clean - for the time being.

The staff at this place is friendly, attentive, and loves dogs. The tubs are big, the water is warm, the shampoo and conditioner are diluted for the health of your family member, and Ava loves the blueberry facials. I have not read many of the other reviews, but I know everyone mentions the blueberry facial. Ava is a golden and thoroughly enjoys the blueberry facial, which consists of the staff rubbing the dogs wet face with a diluted blueberry soap, which you then leave on until the end of the bath.

Finally, there is a large patio for post bath brushing, dryers for drying, and you pay after you are done. They track your baths and the 7th bath is free. They also keep track of the Natures Balance food logs that are purchased, which is good b/c Ava loves these things. Hell, they smell pretty good and I wouldn't have to be starving to try one. Just famished.

Take your dog here, you will not be dissappointed, your wallet will not be much lighter, and you will not have to clean up after having your dog struggle with you for 20 minutes while your house gets trashed.

After my pomeranian rolled on a dead squirrel at fiesta island on a sunday morning (don't even get me started on why that was there or why its instinct for dogs especially little prissy ones to roll on disgusting stuff) . I called there making sure they were open and sure enough they were.

Everyone was super helpful being my first time there and the debacle I was in. They suggested filthy shampoo which was appropriate and while they were mixing it gave my gross puffball a blueberry facial.

He came out squeaky clean and happy. I would definitely go back again hopefully under different circumstances.

I will also be back to check out all the good healthy natural treats and fun stuff they have!

Living in the area and having a dog must mean it was only a matter of time until I visited South Bark.  Used to just visit them for food/toys, etc and then my dog died last year.  When the grief process was nearing it's end we decided to rescue a crazy shepard/lab mix from the humane society!  We realized very quickly that our five month old puppy was in serious need of training/corraling and that we were just as desperate to be trained as well since we'd never owned a puppy before!

Enter South Bark... we attended their puppy training which we found to be incredibly helpful in training us and the dog and we still use their tips and tricks to this day (one year later).  As time has progressed we've come to lean on South Bark more and more for all of our pet needs.  Leroy (our dog) gets his nails trimmed there by Tess, he gets bathes there, all our food is bought there.  He just got a fancy new collar for his birthday... you get the point.

I love supporting the local businesses and the employees, price, knowledge of animals and quality at South Bark make it very easy to keep giving them business!

4 paws waaaaaaaay up for south bark! A great experience for you and your pet both! I just rescued my Taz-a-maraz a few weeks ago... so the whole bath thing was a total crap shoot. The people that work there were all extremely friendly and helpful. Taz was a bit of a pain at first (and actually all the way through until his final soak...) but they helped me get him back in the tub every time his big butt tried to jump out. He even decided to calm down toward the end and dare I say... actually ENJOY his bath (gasp!!!).

The prices are beyond reasonable and the staff really is pretty out of this world. They gave my friend plenty of advice on her dog's diet and just all seemed very knowledgeable. My vet actually recommended their trainer so I am definitely going to be signing up for some classes.

HIGHLY recommend spending some bath time here with your pooch!

The best place!
I found this place when I found a dog running in the neighborhood. They helped me post info, informed me of what this type of little guy (mind you our dog weighed 100 pounds more than this tiny guy) should eat. They are knowledgeable, kind, warm and helpful! I can not say enough good about this place!

I don't know about you, but getting a backache while attempting to hold down a skittish dog in your home bathtub is just not my idea of a fun afternoon.  That's where South Bark comes in!  This is a great, convenient place to bring your pampered pooch for a thorough wash and blueberry facial.  They've got plenty of big tubs, friendly staff to help you if you need it and a wide array of shampoos and conditioners for Fido.  Our dog gives it two paws up!

This is one the business (like The Big Kitchen) that define South Park and have made it attractive for all types of people. They took a sketchy failed laundrymat and did something architecturally interesting with it, long before anyone else (Vagabond, Firehouse, "Public" building, etc.) did anything decent with a commercial building in that immediate area.
The owners have always invested much time and effort into local causes. I don't have a dog, but they have met my cat needs frequently, and all my dog-oriented friends have good things to say.

WONDERFUL!

I was greeted by Donna, who is very cool!  I was attended right away and my dog was given a blueberry facial, which smelled great.  I was given assistance and direction which was also spectacular.  The options for shampoo were also good.  I like how deep the tubs are, the entire venue felt very inviting and not cold.  I had plenty of room to move around.  I enjoyed the friendly staff.

One special thanks to Donna for allowing me to bring in my own clippers and groom my Scottish Terrier in the patio which is spacious.

The overall experience was great!  I will most definitely return to bathe my dog here.  Thank you!

Its been a while but I took my dog here for a bath and it was great. Although i left soaked the people there were polite and helpful even if my now ex bf wasn't (which is why i was soaked) and one of the many reason he is an ex. Anyway, there is a place to brush out your dog as well as a place to blow dry so they don't leave dripping.

This place is GREAT!!!  I often take my two dogs here for a bath when I don't feel like having to clean them and my house afterwards.  You get as many towels and much soap as you need, blueberry facials for the dogs, friendly people working there and as much dog advice as you have time for!

I definitely recommend it!
