The Sourdough Saloon is a great local spot filled with all sorts of colorful locals and travelers alike.  The bartender was friendly and stayed on top of things - my beer glass was never empty for long. Not a lot of beer selection - they only had Coors, Budweiser, and Michelob on tap. During happy hour the beers are only $1.25

    Other items to note:

They serve food (burgers and pizza) but we didn't eat there. We saw some locals eating burgers and they looked good.

The bar is really smokey so it might not be the bast place to hang out of you don't like cigarettes.

Clean bathrooms - don't put your cigarette butts in the urinal!

I had high hopes for a place called "the Sourdough Saloon..."

There were a few people in the bar and for some reason the bartender ignored us for about 3 minutes.  That doesn't sound like a lot of time but can we get some acknowledgement that we are welcome there.  Even more strange was she finally came over and took our drink orders and food orders without looking at us.  It was weird...  I thought small town folk were supposed to have manners??  I know this because I am small town folk.

The place was dirty - not in the small town charming way - but in the - I hope I don't get food poisoning way.  I had a chicken sandwich which was about the same level as a school lunch and my GF had the BBQ chicken.

The BBQ chicken gets its own paragraph...  The coleslaw was terrible.  Runny and it tasted like waaaaaaay too much vinegar.  The potato salad was a strange brown color.  The side were served in tiny little plastic cups - in other words they were made days ago put into cups and stacked up in refrigerator for convenience. The chicken just wasn't right.  The meal was almost inedible, but we were starving.  So we ate some but would have preferred to eat something else.

I think if I owned a place - I would try some of my own food or ask for feed back every once in awhile.  Even if you are a little bar in Beatty NV you owe it to your customers to serve a good product.  You owe paying customers an earnest effort to make them want to come back.

Just curious.  This place is called the Sourdough Saloon and there seemed to be no mention of sourdough on the menu???

A little intimidating at first because of all the locals, but we were welcomed and made to feel right at home. The food was great and the beers were cold. The pizza is not on the menu but is so great! Will for sure be back.

Wow. I think this is my first yelp review outside of the state of California! Cool~ (Don't I deserve a '10 Elite badge for this? Come on yelp!!)

The college "Sebi" KM (Korean Ministry) went to Beatty NV for the summer retreat last year. We went on a road trip by driving  three 12-passenger vans from Los Angeles to Death Valley and Batty NV was our destination (Where we get to have a worship service, take shower and sleep) It was a new approach to typical church retreat.

Sourdough Saloon was the only choice for dinner in the city of Beatty. Another option was the Gas Station. No body wanted to have beef jerkies and doritos nacho chips for dinner. We ordered 3 large cheese and 3 large peperoni pizzas and about 20 cheese burgers with fries. The lady at Sourdough Saloon told us that their oven can only take 2 plates of pizza at a time. And 20-30 minutes of baking time. So that means: 6 pizzas = 90 minutes of waiting for the food. They were not equipped for large orders. Of course, I totally understood this. Sourdough Saloon was for the local residents with not too large group of people. I didn't mind waiting. But hungry and "I could eat a horse" type of young college kids minded waiting.

Everyone was hungry so nobody was complaining about the taste. However, I need to be honest. This is what YELP is all about, right? "Real People. Real Reviews." Am I not right on this? Hamburger patty was tasteless. It felt like a dryed up sponge in my mouth. On the other hand, the pizzas were wet with grease and had this funky odor. I know. I am very fortunate to even have this kind of food on the table. There are millions of poor African kids dying everyday of starvation. I can't complain. Period. But for the sake of Yelp's spirit. I had to be honest. Thank you for listening. Now I want my '10 Elite badge!

I stopped here during a motorcycle trip through Death Valley. You can't beat this place for atmosphere. When I showed up, there were 20 Harleys parked out front. It seems like a whole motorcycle club was in the bar.

They had "One bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer" playing on the jukebox. An ancient, crusty, bartender was serving drinks. I had a burger and a beer. The beer was especially good after a couple of hours of riding through the desert. Sadly, the burger was mediocre. However, there are only a couple of choices for food in Beatty, so you take what you can get.

As the other reviewers have mentioned, smoking is still allowed in NV. A couple of the bikers even lit up cigars. If you have sensitive lungs, you can always hang out in the back room or the porch.

So, it's a great stop if you want some good atmosphere and a cold beer.

Best BAR in the town!! The pizza there is pretty good. Great place to relax an drink! They have a PIG Roast the first weekend in June, which is usually a pretty big turn out. They have a live band an dancing in the back where the pool tables are.

If your stuck in Beatty for the night stop in have a few drinks an put a dollar on the ceiling!!

WOW. First of all, I can't believe someone beat me to this review. Beatty is in the middle of nowhere in NV.

Second of all, this place was a disaster. Went into bar. Sat there for 10 minutes. NO ONE CAME OVER. Went to bathroom. Came back. Sat there for 10 more minutes.

THERE WERE TWO BARTENDERS AND THEY IGNORED ME!

So I left. I suggest you do the same.

We stayed at a nearby inn and the manager strongly recommended this place. We came for dinner on a Friday, and the place was pretty busy. The front room, with the bar, was crowded (well, crowded for Beatty, a town of 1500), and was too smoky for our sensitive San Francisco lungs. So we went to the back room, which seemed to be a popular hangout for high school kids and senior citizens. In a way it was cool to get a glimpse of small-town America, where everyone knows your name, and the Sourdough Saloon is the hotspot for Friday nights.

However, we were really hungry, and there was just the one lady working at the food counter. She was hurried practically off her feet, and had run out of almost everything, and it was only about 8 PM. She warned us that it would take at least 30 minutes before she could get started on our order; Beatty doesn't offer too many other choices (the Happy Burro next door had already closed its kitchen), so we decided to stay.

My arteries will never thank me, though; my fish-and-chips were so greasy I should have blotted them dry first. My cousin said his BBQ chicken was actually, surprisingly, *really* good; somehow, maybe even the best BBQ chicken he had ever had. But the sides (coleslaw and Bush's baked beans) were pretty mediocre.

Cheap, unremarkable, tasteless food. I would recommend the food at both the Ensenada Grill and Rita's Cafe over your options here. Check this place out, I guess, only if you want to grab a beer with the locals.

The Pizza looked great, But i didn't have any.
The place is packed with an obvious group of regulars and has all kinds of automotive knick nacks on the walls. That may be from the manufacture test drivers and such that drive through Beatty during the summer test season.

The honest to goodness cowboy talking on his cell phone, the white haired ladies downing Jack and a beer...MAN I LOVE THIS PLACE!
And the fact that during my stay at the bar "Freebird" "La Grange" and "Wonderful tonight " played on the Jukebox made it all the better. Two Bar Boxes in the back and I think they had darts too.
Oh, and 2 beers and 2 heafty shots of J.D. will only set you back 12 bucks. Not to shabby.

If you're ever in Beatty... for any reason, be sure to check out the Sourdough.  It's the best bar in town and they also serve excellent pizza!  I would recommend the veggie with jalapenos.  Also, the bar has a really authentic wild west feel.  You will see and meet many Beatty locals, it's such a time warp!  It's always pretty busy, with many getting trashed.  When I was there last, I saw this cowboy who looked like he'd stepped out of the 1930s.  And he bought my friend and I a drink!  This is the kind of bar where you may expect someone to buy a round for everyone there.  Jukebox is heavy on country and southern rock... but hey, what else would you expect?  Excellent and friendly service as well.  Only bad points are tons of smoke, and their beer selection.  They do have Sam Adams in bottles, but that's about the best you're getting.

It's the country bar in a backwater NV town, and it is true to that.  As the inebriated lady next to me pointed out, "we play both types of music, country AND western."  Beer is well, beer, and they can make you some pizza which was actually pretty good, if you like that top layer of almost burnt cheese.  Again it's mostly locals, and I believe I saw the same regulars as the post before me, being a transient, it was easy to pick out the other non-locals pretty easy, but hey, whatever everyone likes beer.

Considering that this place is in the middle of nowhere, this really is an oasis.  This little bar totally completed my Death Valley wild west tour.  We're Asians, so my adorable parents even wanted to take some pictures at this crazy old west bar.   At first I was a little nervous because of all the smoke and cowboys, but it's actually really chill at the backroom and the server was really friendly.  We had shrimp scampi(can you believe this place has seafood?!), baby back ribs, and hamburgers.  The food was just average but the feel was great haha!  If you ever go to Beatty, this is a must and only place for you to go.
