Saw Brain Handle do an in-store, bought a couple semi-rare records, found a ton of old MRRs from the early to mid 90s, and overall had a great time.  I could spend hours just looking at all the old flyers on the wall.

Last winter, I worked at Waterloo, but I still went to Sound On Sound. I'm much more likely to find the newest CD by my favorite garage bands here than at Waterloo, even though Sound On Sound is much smaller. I don't have a record player, so I don't check out all the vinyl, but they do have tons of it. In stores at the store are really fun and JD (the owner) it a really cool guy.

Main focus here is on indie and punk but there's a decent selection of other stuff that's priced reasonably. Pretty large collection of discounted (dollar? I can't remember) records too, though most of it looked pretty beat up. I'd mainly recommend visiting if you're looking more for indie/punk obscurities but if you're into other stuff it won't be an entire waste of time.

wow, i get to be the first to write a review of this place?!?!  it's awesome.  first of all, it's named after a big boys song... not the best big boys song but hey, whatever.  2nd of all, the owner is super nice and awesome.  he'll probably order whatever for you but i can't guarantee it.  this place is a nice alternative to the bigger stores in austin that get all the hype i.e. waterloo.  yes, waterloo is "independent" but sound on sound is diy to the core.  i mean, it's run by one guy who barely scrapes by running the place.  we need to support it or it will end up just like sound exchange!  anyway, good selection of all kinds of vinyl and very reasonable prices.  check it out!  you won't be disappointed!
