Stopped in the other night not looking for full dinner, but looking to eat a light snack and have a few drinks. We sat on the couches in the lounge area. It took a few minutes for the bartender to come over to us but he was helpful when we were deciding what to order for drinks. The pinot grigio they had was quite good.
My friend had the shrimp appetizer, which I didn't try but he seemed to enjoy it. We split the margarita pizza which I thought was excellent. The rest of the menu looked really good and I'd love to go back soon for a full meal. The service was mostly good, we did have to ask for bread, but we also asked if they could switch the channel on the tv (my friend wanted to check a score) and they were very accomodating.
All in all it was a very cute place. I learned they have an outdoor terrace so next time I'd like to go for a full meal and eat outside!
Can I give no star? O-M-G!! Absolutely disgusted with the service and the food!!
It was my baby sister's b-day so we wanted to make it special by taking her to this Argentinean/Italian place as she was missing our hometown meal.We loved the menu and thought it would be a perfect location for a b-day event. Oh boy, we were WRONG!!
For appetizer we ordered mussels, empanadas, picadas, and Beets salads
Terracotta Mussels - Tasted old and super fishy (So we called the waitress - and she took the mussels back to the kitchen)
Picada - It was so dried and old (but we ate it)
Empanadas - I'm not sure how you can go wrong with empanadas but this place couldn't even make that correctly (It was by far the nastiest empanadas)
Roasted Beets salad - Ok
For Main dish
Five of us got - Parrillada - It was ok, not sure how they can call that parrillada but it was edible (Needed salt and pepper)
Seafood Parillada - My friend who is vegetarian got this dish - and I'm thinking we sent back the mussels because it was bad why would you put the same mussels to seafood Parillada. Of course, we called the waitress, and she called the manager - The manager had such a nasty attitude, saying that his chef tried the mussel and it was nothing wrong with it. If it is perfectly ok, why would we sent it back?? Then we asked if he tried it and then he goes "No my chef did". He asked if we want something else then my friend asked for Parmesan Crusted chicken breast - the manager goes - "YOU SURE THAT WILL TAKE VERY LONG LONG TIME" with nasty attitude. OMG!
We paid $500 for our meal to have upset stomach for two days (they should be happy that we didn't report them to the NY Health department
SOSA BORELLA - There are so many other Argentinean/Italian places in the city - they better WAKE UP and star improving on FOOD and SERVICE
Please don't waste your money and time on SOSA BORELLA

This place is a super cute italian restaurant in the theater district. It's definitely a great date spot, or bring the family out for a nice meal spot. and if you work in Midtown West, it's a great lunch spot! I recently found out that they have an outdoor garden seating area upstairs!! You don't really get a nice view of anything, but it's nice to sit outside and enjoy your lunch and a glass of wine. I did just that with a close friend who works in Midtown west.
Glass of wine, great salad consisting of spring mix, frisee, avocado, corn, tomatoes and grilled chicken with a nice vinaigrette. So good.

My friend and I saw their ad in Playbill and was drawn in by the idea of eating Argentinian/Italian cruisine. We couldn't have been happier that we decided to eat here. The food was great and the service was equally great. The filet mignon with chimichurri was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed and we had a wonderful experience.
The food wasn't great at all... waiters were ok... brought us some spoiled mussles and manager was actually angry at us. Didn't get that part... restaurant is nice, very cozy and quiet, would not recommend to anyone.
It's pricey so I don't go here too often but the food is absolutely delicious. The filet mignon and the pizza are so good!!

I live in Brooklyn.
Venturing into midtown Manhattan is usually never too high on my to-do list, but the fam was visiting and their hotel was just a few blocks away.
Tell you the truth, I was pleasantly surprised. Good food and drinks - the sangria mojito was exactly what I needed after a long day at work.
The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the service. Although the host was very nice when he showed us to the table, our waiter clearly wasn't in a great mood, he even told us he was having a bad night! For pete's sake he was leaning against the wall when he was taking our orders, he looked like he was bored!
I understand if you're in Manhattan it may be a spot to look into, but there may be better options out there.

I wasn't 100% about this location when I first looked it up since I'm staying in the area. Its not overly inviting from the outside at street level, however I ventured in and took the risk. I was pleasently surprised. I ordered the Talapia which came with a delicious risotto. I must say it was probably the best fish entree I have had in manhattan in a long time. The setting was very romantic and i highly suggest you stop by and support. The prices were even less than what I noticed online at Open Table.
I used to live up the street from Sosa, and I always walked by it and thought "this place looks cute." So one night after seeing a show, my boyfriend and I stopped in and sat at the bar. We ordered a bottle of wine and had some tapas. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance is really nice and the bartender was attentive and charming. I am not sure about the actual meals, but I'm sure they are tastey.
TERRIBLE SERVICE BUT GOOD FOOD.
The food at Sosa Borella is very good and worth the cost. I had the seafood ceviche to begin, which came with two slices of bread on its own. For dinner I had the rosemary chicken in lemon sauce, which was outstanding, esp. because it came with mashed potatoes and a side of spinach.
The deco was very nice too. I liked the fact that its a table-cloth restaurant. We were lucky to even get to see the sun "set" during dinner.
Everything was going all well and fine until the bill came. I was with a group of 4 friends, our 6th never showed. When the bill arrived, we were charged the 20% for six. When I inquired about why we were still charged for the six, eventhough only 5 were served, the response was that "the reservation was initially made for six." Very tacky on part of the management to enforce such a policy. THEN, two days after the dinner, I checked my bank account and they OVERcharged me by $167. After three days of talking to them over the phone, they refused to reinstate the credit to my card so I had to go pick the money up in cash. The owner was nice, but stand-offish. Sorry, you lost a lot of points there.
Only had a drink here pre theater and our bartender was very friendly and fast. Would not normally order a sangria mojito but I'm glad I did because it was very refreshing and delicious. Perfect dessert after dinner! The place looks very comfortable and like others note, it looks like a great date spot.
I may be a little biased because I've had three really nice dates here (all with my boyfriend), including a really memorable second date after ice-skating in Central Park. BUT, biased or not - at least that should tell you that Sosa Borella is a really nice date spot!
It's a very cute & romantic little restaurant with quality food and an excellent wine selection.
For appetizers, I recommend the empanadas and the crab & avocado salad.
Romantic atmosphere, excellent food, reasonable price, close to Times Square but not in the heart of things. If you are looking for a great pre-theatre restaurant, I highly recommend it.

Since the wife was out of town, and I love going to NYC and she doesn't, I found this weekend the perfect opportunity to take an excursion to the city. I hooked up with a good friend of mine Saturday who lives in NY and we went to Madame Tussuad's and Ripley's Believe it or Not, but the best part of the trip was dining at Sosa Borella's (to which my friend highly agreed.)
In doing research before heading out to meet up with my friend, I came to Yelp to peruse reviews of different restaurants we might wish to experience. My friend initially mentioned Olive Garden, to which I responded, "Nooooo, we're going to the city, we don't want to go to a "chain" restaurant ..." - so she told me I was in charge of selecting the restaurant. As my friend is Puerto Rican and loves Italian food, and I love both Spanish and Italian, I settled on Sosa Borella, tagged as Spanish/Italian.
This restaurant is tucked btwn a corner bank (Citibank if I remember correctly, on the corner of 8th & 50th) and another store - I might have passed it up if I hadn't been looking for it and noted the exact address. We walked into a nice, dimly lit atmosphere. Hard wood, exposed brick , rustic and beautifully warm. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday - the place was half-filled (or half-empty, depending on that whole glass perception you may choose to follow.) We were asked if we had reservations - no - and we were lead upstairs - there seemed no difference, except we didn't have to watch people enter and exit nor watch the bar - so it was a bit more cozy upstairs.
Our waiter arrived promptly, and brought water and asked about drinks. I wanted pinot grigio, she wanted chardonnay - they were out of both, but the waiter suggested a substitute that was quite good, so we weren't disappointed. The menu had 3-4 options each of red meat/chicken, salads, pasta (for could-be vegetarians), and fish, as well as appetizers and pizzetas. The menu read well enough I wanted to try at least one thing from each section. The waiter returned with warm, soft bread and oil that was awesome - I couldn't have asked for better.
After hearing the specials, I chose the pan-seared monkfish - on a bed of spinach, dressed w/black olives and tomatoes. Holy shht, I think this was the best fish I've ever had, no joke, and it was prepared so well with the veggies, I ate every little bit. There was a side, a breaded zucchini patty thing, can't remember what the waiter said but it was good even though I couldn't truly identify. My friend had the grilled salmon and cous-cous, which she loved, but I was so into my meal-o-monkfish, I didn't even sample hers.
My friend ordered another glass of wine, but I saw a drink called "Sangria Mojito" on the menu I wanted to try. I figured, "I like sangria, love mojitos, I should try this." I don't know if this is made elsewhere, but after tasting it, I realized what a bad idea it was. Mixing the two wasn't horrid, but it was far from good, however, that didn't stop me from drinking it all. Maybe it didn't help that it looked like beet juice w/leaves in it...
The dessert menu came, with plenty to choose from, as well as coffees and after-dinner liqueurs - all seemed quite tasty, but I passed.
I dropped a buck-10 for all of that (including tip) - which I didn't think was too bad for the food/service/experience, but more than I expected from other $$ reviews.
I saw a couple groups up to 6 or 7, nothing beyond that, and one family had pre-teens, but I didn't see anything younger (and I got a good laugh when one kid fell out of his chair - haha.)
One last thing - the room was a bit tight - tables close together, just enough room for waiters to squeeze through - but people seemed respectful of how far their voices carry.

Don't get suckered by the promising menu at Sosa Borella -- the service was so inattentive that it ruined the meal. We came for brunch and ordered plain coffee to start, which took about 10 minutes to arrive and was luke-warm by the time it got to the table. Same story with the meal -- it took forever to arrive and was almost cold when it did (even the fried eggs weren't hot).
This is not the story of a popular brunch spot that's so crowded the staff must be curt while serving great food. This restaurant was pretty empty while we got there, and the bad service led to cold dishes, something I've never experienced before. How hard is it to take the food to customers after it's ready?
It's also fairly expensive for brunch (~$13 per plate not including coffee), which made the service all the more unacceptable.

This restaurant is a chameleon. During weekdays it's a casual great lunch place, with a bustling crowd, a great sandwich menu and a great kicked-back atmosphere.
At night Sosa turns Tri-Beca elegant, that is, cool and sophisticated, but relaxed and not stuffy.
The owner, Stacey, can often be found lording over the place, doing her best to make sure everyone's happy. The food is certain to please, and if there are any bumps in the service, Stacy is sure to make things right.

We ordered Sosa Borella for lunch at work. The hanger steak is delicious!!! It comes with some fries and sauteed spinach that are also really tasty. Good portion too. And they give you some free Foccacia bread.
Just expect them to take atleast 45 mins for delivery.

We were early for our reservations so hung out at the bar downstairs. It was very well decorated and modern.
Upstairs was traditional and almost sparse, but it made the dining area feel elegant and relaxing despite the crowd.
The food was awesome. Great seafood, and the service was just right. Great dining experience, for big groups or for two.

Note: I'm rating this based on ONLY brunch experiences. I've been here several times (again, always for brunch). In my humble opinion, I think it's great.
Service can be a bit dicey - especially if you sit outside. But it has such a low-key, relaxed vibe to it -- and the slow service actually pays off on a Sat/Sun when you just want to while away the day w/ some good friends.
Any breakfast item i've had was good. Also, they serve some great paninis. Definitely worth a try -- at least during the day...

My wife and I had dinner here prior to going to see "Wicked" one night a few weeks back. We had not heard of it as we don't get to the city often but everything was just great. It is fairly small but service, food, everything was excellent. Highly recommended.
Love this place. Great atmosphere and nice staff. Nice wine selections.
My friends and I shared :
Prosciutto e Portobello, Roasted Beet Salad, & Picada for 2 .. All very good and very fresh...

Came here for drinks with co-workers one night after work. It seems to attract a decent number of like-minded people from the area. I can't speak to the food here but the service was attentive and the wine list had a good number of choices at various price points (albeit starting at $$). The decor is tasteful and non-invasive, and no loud music or loud tables around to distract. Nice, small and intimate, and a welcome respite to everything else on 8th avenue in the area.
I stopped in with some friends for some drinks and dessert and was very pleased. It is very welcoming and friendly. The desserts were fabulous. I heard great things about the steak sandwich that they serve for lunch so I will have to make it back again sometime soon.

my friend & I had late evening snacks here after watching a show on broadway. i enjoyed their empanadas with red wine. the place was not crowded that night; i'd love to go back and have full dinner upstairs. it's a fantastic place for conversations among good friends. the service was great!
awesome mussels in as creamy saffron broth, really great fresh fettucine with shrimp, and excellent lamb bolognese. each sauce had its own distinct flavor, not just red sauce smothered over a choice of ingredients, which your prone to find in most italian restaurants.
very comfortable space with a warm colored interior that gets cozier with every sip of the great wine on the menu.

I had a great experience here. The decor is nice and the food is great. I especially liked the garlic shrimp appetizer, which came sizzling in a dish pan. The atmosphere felt very warm, and was dimly lit. A great Italian/Argentian place.
Sosa Borella was the highlight of my dining experiences during a recent trip to NYC. Everything from the restaurant's décor to the food was very satisfying. The décor could be described as simple elegance, with crisp white tablecloths, candles, and inviting seating. Our waitress was very prompt and provided great dinner suggestions. Now to the food..We started off with the Empanadas with chimichurri sauce appetizers. The crust and filling of the empanadas were done perfectly but the highlight was the flavorful chimichurri sauce that accompanied the empanadas. For the main course my wife had the fresh tomato fettucini with chicken-jalapeno sausage, broccoli rabe, in an olive oil based sauce topped with goat cheese. The flavors were layered perfectly in this dish and the jalapeno-chicken sausage was not overpowering and provided just a subtle hint of heat. I had the Seafood Parrillada which included grilled tuna, salmon, shrimp, and muscles in a lemon-chimichurri sauce. Every bite of the parrillada burst with flavor and the portion size of each of the seafood exceeded my expectation. I highly recommend Sosa Borella for a great dining experience at an affordable price.
Good food, decent prices, lots of character. A good spot for lunch (business or otherwise).
Good Italian/Argentinian place. Good burger. Decent steak salad. Come on, you know the place! It was in the damn Beastie Boys video, for goodness sakes!

Good midtown lunch place with very large "pizzetta" with interesting toppings and a good crust. Hot sandwiches were also good - served on crusty Italian bread with various delicious combinations. Fries were not that great though - tasted like fast food fries - nothing special. but the bread they give you with the herbed oil was good.

I love this place. Nice wine list. Tasty mojitos. Excellent food. Plus, if you go during theatre hours, it's not too crowded.

I work a lot of late nights and when the company decides to buy us dinner I demand Sosa Borella. The food is so tasty my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The only problem is I want to nap afterwards. My recommendation... everything on the menu.

This is a nice restaurant with a warm atmosphere. The service was prompt and courteous. Would have rated the place 4 stars but for the food, which should have been better. Roasted eggplant soup with too salty and the branzino was too fishy. Best thing was the foccacia with basil dip.
I have eaten in the restaurant twice. Sosa is one of the staples of life in Tribeca. If you are looking for a delivery hamburger and fries or pizza, in Tribeca then then this is the place. I have over the year tried everything on the menu. I recommend: Bruschetta classica (appetiser); Gauchita burger & fries (medium well - as all burgers should be.); Any of the pizzas (they are very large "single" servings); The delivery guys are very quick in Tribeca.
Food is amazing here! I loved my dish which was the Branzino (white fish like sea bass). Another in my party got the Lamb Pasta dish which was delish as well. Very eclectic style. The service wasn't the greatest but the food def makes up for it. I would highly recommend this place!
I've eaten there twice. The first time, the parmesian crusted chicken was nothing but a chicken cutlet. The homemade chocolate desert wasn't amazing. But, again, it was solid. I didn't mind it. The second experience was worse. The Lasagna was oily, bland, and soggy.
