Never stayed here but visited this total jerk while he was staying here.  He totally didn't deserve to be staying here.  I did.  I wanted to collect all his stuff and throw it out the window and immediately take over the suite.  But you know what I did?  Nothing.  Nothing at all.  It hurts.

Sure is nice.

Last summer, we had to drive a guest up to Canada. Before we left Seattle, she had one request... to see the hotel where they shot part of 'Sleepless in Seattle'. A big fan I guess. First of all, I grew up in this town and I didn't even know there was such a place - ok, mainly because I didn't think about it.

We didn't spend a night there, but we did walk around in a, shall we say, impromptu personal tour. We walked around the Hunt Club and rode the elevators to the penthouse floor. We meandered around the balcony garden and I'm sure we caught the cautious eye of the staff.

The Sorrento has an aristocrat  East Coast brownstone type of look - darkly polished wood, stone work, fireplace, a garden on the rooftop. It has that Old World charm more common in places like Boston, but unique to a city in the West. I can see why they filmed shots of 'Sleepless in Seattle' here.

And, I do want to have lunch at the Hunt Club someday.

If you are heading to Seattle to Swedish Medical Center, or any downtown hospital, the Sorrento is a FAB location with FAB service,.

I have rarely come across a hotel with a better Concierge -- seriously great -- and a great front desk staff.

I will stay again at the Sorrento -- not just for the 'old hotel' feel, but for the FABULOUS service.  A great alternative to stuffy downtown chain hotels.

Did I mention the FREE wireless in room??

Celebrating its 100th year this year, the Sorrento is one of my favorite Seattle hideaways.  I've never spent the night at the hotel, but I dearly love both the Hunt Club for lunch and dinner and the Fireside Room for piano music and cocktails.  Old world charm and impeccable service.  Tres bien!

Just when you think it's impossible to entertain these days and make a lasting impression or memory, along comes the High Tea in the Fireside Room @ Sorrento.

Refinement is something humans develop, it's earned.  Start here.
Once the art of conversation and lifting petit fours has been mastered, consider dinner at The Hunt Club. You will feel like an adult, for once.

Keep your elbows in.  Sit up straight.  Thank you.

Want to give the Sorrento more stars but cannot.  Everything about my stay was perfect, the quality of the room decor, the ambiance in the bar, the food, EXCEPT, major noise issues in the room late at night.  The levels of noise that seep from neighboring rooms and from the rooms above makes sleeping a very difficult task.  I ended up having a rather tense conversation with the front desk at 1am.  The noise did subside which tells me that someone was having a party in a room, which tells me that the hotel doesn't do a great job of keeping things quiet for their paying guests.

Given the prices they charge, they should!

Grande Ole Dame that has seen her day.  Needs modern update of infrastructure.  Old world charm 3*

When we stayed there our service was good.  A bit pricey.

The Sorrento Hotel Bar and Fireside Room

We ended up here on Saturday night; Scott had to have the plate of cookies (which we learned they no longer do) and sit by the fire (which was well occupied, sending us into the adjacent bar).

The bar felt very European, which I found very relaxing as I slouched comfortably in the mohair seat, fairly unaware of the stodgy bar patrons around us. Later when the bar had cleared Scott pointed out that we were one of the few tables that were not part of the "adult diaper crowd" as he so charmingly put it.

Still stodgy wealthy drinkers and chilly barmaids beside, we had a great time. Though we brought the fun with us, the fun wasn't waiting for us at the Sorrento.

We ordered cheesy drinks: Jess had a white Russian and I had Amaretto in an oversized snifter, to go with the environment. We played table rugby, took pictures of everything and laughed. As the evening went on the bar slowly cleared around us. When 1 am passed the bar man attempted to vibe us down and eventually just brought us our bill.

I would recommend the Sorrento's bar for visiting in-laws, business meetings, illustrious affairs, first date drinks and groups of friends, especially groups where the conversation pours and you're not interested in loud music to scream over.

The Sorrento Hotel is a charming and off-the-path old Seattle hotel located on the downtown side of First Hill.  Nice for visitors (or locals) who prefer to be out of the downtown chaos.  Very stately old building with a beautiful lobby bar which is a nice stop for an evening cocktail.  Often will have lobby entertainment.  Hotel also features The Hunt Club which boasts a gamey menu (thus the name) and a dark woody atmosphere.  See separate reviews.
