Great relaxing interior and wonderful welcoming staff!
Amazing, must check out spot in Chicago's Edgewater. I have never had a problem with parking, street meters, staff has gone out and fed the meter for me in the past on more then one visit. I have gone in for mani's, pedi's, using the steam room and facials. Never feeling rushed, always relaxing after a stressful day of work.
I have given my mother and sister gift certificates to go to Soothe Your Senses. My sister loved her full body massage!
I have gone with girlfriends and with my husband - everyone loved it!

Good, but not completely awesome. Pretty interior, very pleasant staff.
I went for this pretty pricey treatment: the hot oil scalp massage/sugar scrub/full body rain shower, which was supposed to be relaxing. The masseuse was quite talkative, and spent a fair amount of time talking about the business she used to own. Her work was quite awesome other than that, her shoulder-massage was putting me in the clouds. Yet I wouldn't request her again due to the chat-factor, it just wasn't $85 worth of relaxing.
I guess I didn't think of it, but my hair was left in a massive snarl and I had no comb, and neither did the spa. Even a gas-station throw away comb would have been welcomed. Needless to say, walking out of there I must have looked like I escaped an asylum with my snarled greasy mane. But I guess on Broadway that would help me fit in.
I've been trying to cash in a groupon for my mom, sister and myself for a few weeks now. They're really popular it seems and we all cannot get in at the same time so I booked myself for a massage and facial for yesterday and booked my mom and sister each for a massage and a facial for my mom for the 3rd week in Sept. They're so booked!
In any case, I kind of forgot my appointment was for 10 and I arrived nearly 30 minutes late. So I had to take a partial session which kind of sucked but they're so booked they can't bump someone else behind me. I respect that. I also appreciated that the masseur, Connie, switched my session to reflexology so that I'd have the opportunity to get a full body massage on a different day. The reflexology was nice. I'd go back and do it again and can't wait to get a massage. Connie was really aware of pain that I was feeling and knew exactly where to apply the perfect amount of pressure.
I liked the atmosphere, the music. The lighting is low, it's soothing and relaxing. The relaxation room is decent. The restrooms and shower area is OK. I enjoyed using the services and products made available to you. I'm really liking the baths. Maybe the hubby and I can do that some day.
Next, I had a facial with Dorina. She was very courteous and gentle. I enjoyed the facial and products once again. She also gave me a couple of samples to try out at home. I would definitely go back. She did not overstep her boundaries and try to puncture my face with the extraction tools. I have one small spot and I asked her to get rid of it (the entire reason for today's visit) and she said that she couldn't since it wasn't something that could extracted. It's tiny, but I can see it. Dorina complimented my skin. Telling me that it's wonderful. She could tell though that I really want that tiny spot removed. She suggested a dermatologist for the spot. It needs to be popped. I don't know if I can wait for an appointment. Where is my sewing kit again?
I had such a great massage that I decided to go back and try a facial. I really wish I would've stuck with the massages. I told my facialist that I was experiencing dry skin on my cheeks but oilier T-zone and she reassured me that she'd make sure to use two separate products to treat each. During the facial, my cheeks felt tinglier than they usually do but I attributed to the products. Now it's 3 days later and my cheeks feel so unnaturally dry. And not only are my cheeks dry, but so is the rest of my face. During the day, it gets so dry, I had to rub lotion all over my face just to cool it down a bit and make it stop hurting.
I really liked my facialist, she was friendly, attentive and gentle. I just don't understand what she used that would make my skin feel so terrible now.

I bought a groupon last week and it's been awesome since then. Received my groupon on Wednesday and… Read more »
I enjoyed a recent spa day here, thanks to a groupon. The mani/pedi was awesome - the girl took her time and did a clean paint job, but I would've loved a brief foot/hand massage. Facial was my favorite part - very thorough, and again, the lady (a different one) took her time. Finally, a 3rd lady gave me a massage. Not the best massage I've ever had because she didn't really apply a lot of pressure, but she did ask about my specific needs and followed through to try to address them. I would definitely go back to this spa.
I loved Katie, the cosmetologist, she was wonderful. I usually get sort of freaked out by people touching my face, but was very pleased with her skill, and the products she used. She was truly fantastic.
The owner, Gretchen, is lovely and very welcoming. And, her daughter Danielle--who worked the desk when I was there--was a sweetheart.
If you are looking for a spa experience that is beautiful, comfortable, and affordable, check this place out.
By the way, it looks small from the outside. Don't be deceived, it has not only the Mani-Pedi goodness, but also a steam room, whirlpool soaks, multiple massage rooms, body wraps, and beautiful skin-care room.
I went in here for a massage because my hub gave me a gift certificate for my birthday. A few things that I noticed right off the bat:
- parking was really easy.
- it's not pretentious at all.
- the staff is very nice.
- the changing room is weirdly designed
- the storefront is small but cute
My massage was awesome! When I met the woman who was going to do my massage I didn't think much of it, but you really shouldn't judge a book by it's cover because she was great! This was definitely one of the better massages that I've had in Chicago and their prices were very reasonable. At no point did I feel rushed or uncomfortable... it really was a very nice experience. I kept thinking, "wow, this is a really good massage" and I'm usually pretty particular about people rubbing me down :).
I'm not sure if I would have gone in without a gift certificate, but I'm certainly glad that I did. I am happy to have this so close to my house and I will definitely be back for future massages and hopefully can try some other services (e.g. facials). Men, this is a great gift idea for the significant other in your life and Ladies, they offer services especially for men too! I can't wait to go back!
I used to be a regular client at this salon - I went several times to get my eyebrows waxed and I also got a manicure there. In the last year I've recommended the salon to several friends AND I also bought a $100 gift certificate for a friend to go there.
Good stuff - really nice looking salon, very relaxing, and the two women who did my eyebrows did GREAT work. I also really love that it's here in Edgewater because it's a great addition to the neighborhood and we need good businesses.
Bad stuff - After my last appointment I tried to make another appointment. The man working the desk said he would only allow me to make an appointment if I gave a credit card number for their files. I asked why and he said it was because they needed to be able to charge me if I didn't turn up. I was surprised and said I wasn't comfortable giving a cc number that would just randomly be in their files because I was worried about security. He told me that I had to give my credit card number. I said that I'd been there many times, that I was a regular customer, and that I'd never missed an appointment. He said tough - their policy is that if he doesn't get a cc number in advance and a customer doesn't show up, then it comes out of his salary. THEN he said "and if you don't show up I'm not paying for you. It's not coming out of MY pocket."
He told me that if I wanted to be a "walk-in client" in future then I could do that, but I could no longer make appointments. I asked how come I'd been able to make appointments in the past without a cc number? He said "I have no idea, but this is our policy and I'm not paying for people who don't show up."
SO - last week I thought I'd give it another shot, whatever, I needed my eyebrows waxed. I walk in, and the same man is there. He says they have no appointments right now, but I could come back in a few hours. I say GREAT! I'll be back. Then he says he wants my credit card number. We go through the same thing and I swear I'll be back. Once again he says "If you want to come back later you can see if we have time, but I'm not paying your bills."
I said no thank you, and then I called another salon and half an hour later I had pretty eyebrows and they had $20.
Soothe Your Senses, I won't be back. I'm sad, because I really liked coming here, but I was deeply offended.
-Friendly staff
-Tidy and bright
-Tranquil
-Easy to get to from train
-Great bargains sent to your in-box
-Dermalogica products
-No-chip manicures
My husband & I both enjoy a bit of pampering here. He surprised me with one of their membership packages for Christmas, it's been love ever since. I really appreciate their new weekly savings emails about special events on the cheap! Who doesn't like a complimentary glass of vino with their manicure!?
We've even gotten a friend or two hooked on their indulgent massages.
Like the name, it's everything my house isn't! (Serenely peaceful)! Rogers Park got lucky with this one.
I came to Soothe Your Senses today for a massage. I entered the spa with a stiff neck, an aching jaw and overall unshakable discomfort. I left with total relaxation. Jocelyn is fabulous and I will be back.
I've been here countless times. I always listen to friends recommendations for girl's relaxing days out but after some time I've realized none compare to this spa. The decor is very pretty, and I love their little wait room. It always keeps me tranquil and in my pampering mood.
I've tried all their services...you name it! The owner always makes me feel very friendly, which is very rare for spa owners. I'm used to them acting all pretentious, but this spa definitely makes me feel at home.
I recommend the no-chip mani, a massage, and waxing here. I have a standing appointment with them for each!
I really want this place to be great but after 6 visits I need to come to terms with the fact it's never going to grow up. Today was a fiasco of poor scheduling, undisclosed charges and a botched no chip. This visit was even more disappointing than the massage I had last time. When I've voiced concern it's met with "I didn't schedule and sorry you weren't told" and "what can I say".
One bright spot. If you DO decide to go here do not waste your time with another manicurist other than Maggie.
I cashed in my groupon for 3 spa treatments at Soothe Your Senses. I too wanted to love this place, but there are several things that were "off". They left this poor girl in the waiting room for over a half hour for a no chip manicure and then offered to reschedule and have her come back, tsk tsk. Not the best way for me to be introduced to a new place. I was very apprehensive about the ladies locker room as the storage for personal items and my purse was a shared space. When I inquired about it I was told "we've never had a problem, just put your purse there". Luckily nothing happened, but I wasn't fully able to relax knowing my expensive purse was sitting there in the quasi-open (the door wouldn't shut).
I really enjoyed my therapist for massage and reflexology. However, the headpiece for the table broke off and I was never fully comfortable. Also, I was supposed to have hour treatements each and it was 45 minutes at best.
I had a facial as well and was led to the room where they do the body scrubs. They didn't have any more "room" and told me to lay on a flat uncomfortable table type thing that is used to administer the salt scrubs. My body ached when I was finished and again I was not fully able to relax.
The place is a bit weathered in areas and they haven't kept it up with fresh paint and cushions that aren't worn in the waiting area. Also, I showered and found it to be quite inconvenient that there were zero supplies besides a hair dryer in the ladies "locker room".
Soothe Your Senses Day Spa is an oasis in the middle of a not so nice stretch of north Broadway. I came here with a friend after we bought Groupons. We both had massages and acupuncture treatments. I was pleased with the services of the receptionist, the massage therapist, and the acupuncturist. My massage with Jocelyn was really relaxing. She listens to what you want. You can tell that she is knowledgable about muscle structure. Next, I had my first ever acupuncture treatment. I believe in Eastern medicine but now I am convinced it works. The therapist was good at explaining each step of what she was doing and why she chose the acupuncture points to treat what was ailing me. She also did some craniosacral therapy while the needles were in which was comforting but in and of itself I am skeptical of. The receptionist was so nice as to give me change for two $20 bills for gratuity since it has to be paid in cash.
The space is cute and has a homey feel and there is tea and lemon water in the waiting room. I was taken on a quick tour of the place (which was a first in my spa experiences) and was especially impressed by the hot tubs that were built into the floor. Awesome. My only gripe is that there were no hand towels/paper towels in the bathroom. What do you dry your hands with?
Overall, a seamless experience. I will try to make another appointment this month for another wonderful service.
Went for a no chip mani - didn't have the colors I liked, started peeling from the nail after about a week. Not worth the 45 bucks everytime you want a new color. Service was good though - i might go back for other things but i wont be getting my mani/pedis there.
I've been a loyal client at Soothe Your Senses for more than a year now and that is mainly due to the wonderful Iwona - the Aesthetician. She is amazing - Facials and Brow-Bikini Waxes are actually a calm and soothing experience. She is incredibly detailed and makes you feel immediately comfortable.
The staff is friendly and informal - it's not an upscale type of place, so don't go in expecting the Four Seasons, however it's a great neighborhood spa. Exposed brick, fireplace and cozy seating in the (small) waiting area.
I agree with some of the other reviewers about the Mani/Pedi area. The Pedi stations are not comfortable - you are on a raised wooden bench with scattered pillows. If they could upgrade that I would be more inclined to go there than other places in the hood.
I've been going to Soothe Your Senses since they opened and I've almost always been happy with my services.
Great Mani/Pedi, massages and pretty decent facials.
I have been especially pleased with the waxing services because my favorite technician, Ivonna, has been there for over a year and she effing rocks! (I don't like having to show my girl to somebody new each time!).
The reception has always been friendly and they work well with scheduling appointments at the last minute and call you back when you leave a message.
The only negative feedback I have is that they should fix-up the manicure area...its looking a little worn and hasn't had much work done since the place was opened.
What can I say? My senses were not soothed. The first thing I noticed is that despite the much-touted New Orleans influence, the spa looked pretty typical for Chicago. I was led to the back and told to change in the restroom and put my stuff on the shelf. The door did not lock, there was not a separate dressing area, and there were no lockers, which I have come to expect as the standard in day spas. As a result, a fellow patron, through no fault of her own, walked in as I was changing. Not a very relaxing note to begin with.
My therapist insisted on using the slightly embarassing "diaper drape" even though I am totally OK with being naked during a massage. It made me uncomfortable and also interfered with the massage.
Perhaps the weirdest part of the massage was something the therapist called the "ah" machine. If you expect this to get porny, quit reading because you will be sorely disappointed. The ah machine is a big ,rubber, air-filled pillow that vibrates. Its purpose, according to the therapist, is to bring blood to the surface of the skin. Is that not the purpose of massage? She also continued to speak at normal volume, which is does little to create a soothing atmosphere.
The therapist also commented on my sandy feet. I explained that I had come from the beach, but she continued to comment on it during the duration of the massage.
My calves were sore from overdoing a workout the previous day, and I told the therapist that they were a little tender. She told me to let her know if there was too much pressure, which I did. Her response? "Well, that's the acupressure point for your lower back, so I'm going to keep on going." Yowwwww!
Massage therapists are trained to create a relaxing ambiance and ensure that their clients do not lift a finger. You do what makes the client comfortable, sandy feet or not. I really wanted to like Soothe Your Senses as is is around the corner from my house, but I can't. Alas, this love is not meant to be.
Carol was awesome.
I got a swedish massage and she was really good about working with the breathing and calming my head so that I actually was able to push all my worries aside during the session!
I'd definitely go back only I'd schedule a so minute instead of an hour session cause I just ended up falling asleep from getting too cozy!
Not only is this a terrific spa with down home manners and southern sensibilities, they also use their own line of aromatherapy products in the services. Truly, a lovely treat!
Take my advice and visit soon: http://www.sootheyours...
Jen is the best when it comes to getting the perfect eyebrow . I prefer my eyebrows left pretty natural looking and most estheticians tend to wax mine pretty thin. Not Jen though, she follows the natural shape and keeps me from looking perpetually surprised (when your eyebrows are shaped to high and you always look shocked).
I have also had a mani and pedi here and wasn't as please as with the wax, but it wasn't terrible. Overall , I would recommend services here.
Edit 12/07
Jen no longer works here sadly, but Courtney is just as good. And very patient. She goes out of her way to make sure customers are satisfied with their service.
This is an oasis in Edgewater. With its exposed brick and hardwood floors, it has an urban earthy aesthetic. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There are a variety of treatments, from basic skin care to more esoteric wraps and baths, even chakra balancing.
Prices are good. It's not cheap, but it's comparable to other day spas in the city.
Basia does a great brow! She architected the perfect shape for my face and made it seem almost painless. And don't miss the acutonics. This is a great treatment that uses the same principles as acupuncture, but with sound vibrations -- no needles. It's extremely relaxing and almost made me feel drunk.
It's a treat to have such a great place in the neighborhood and not have to travel to Lincoln or Wicker Park!
Edited 12/30/08: Love love LOVE the baths here. I don't have the bathtub of my dreams at home, so the big sunken tubs with jets and color therapy are a luxury I indulge in fairly regularly. Also, I go to Ivana to get my brows done, and she's great -- listens to what I want and is always friendly and sweet.
Ok, I'm totally changing my review but not the number of stars it got. I once again noticed how nasty my feet were getting so I decided to go back here for a pedicure. This time I didn't have to wait at all, they had everything set up before I got there. It was a high quality pedicure. There's no massage chairs or anything here. There's a bench with pillows and magazines and a basin below for your feet. Everything's clean.
The Spa Pedicure is $45 and includes: foot soak, nail shaping and cuticle treatment, sugar scrub, callous treatment, paraffin wax, and nail polish. The website also says foot and calf massage but either my girl skipped it or counted applying a coat of lotion to my feet before the paraffin as the massage.
The staff is very nice and unobtrusive and their selection of magazines was good. When I went last year I wasn't a fan of their furniture in the waiting area but they seem to have changed that... for the better. I'm sure this won't be my last pedi there!
What a place! What can I say. I have no idea what Christine is talking about. Making my appointment was a breeze. The service was very professional. My massage and men's facial was the best I had in a long time. The environment was very comfortable for a man - which I was so happy about. The non-pretentious attitude makes you relax the moment you hit the door. I wasn't rushed in any way. I relaxed with a cup of tea after my services. I will definitely go back and refer all my friends. Plus they have a referral program. Every friend that brings in a referral card with my name on it, I get $5 credit on my account. You can't beat that.
Just finished my first week of the manicure - and it's already chipping. I understand one nail - it broke. But the "no chip manicure" has lifted in several places around my cuticles on five nails. Hardly worth $40. Not sure if this is only for this place or in general, but I'll be canceling my return appointment. My pedicure is still going pretty strong, though!

I was at this spa yesterday for a pedicure and today for a no-chip manicure.
I called on Thursday to… Read more »
I went to this spa because it is near my home and because of all the great reviews here on Yelp. Maybe the entire spa was just having an off day when I went, but I am shocked by all of the great reviews posted here.
I got a variety of services while I was there, and they were all lackluster. I know that the first few days after a facial your skin might look irritated and red, but this lasted for a week after my facial here, and I had scabs on my face from the pressure. The blankets on the bed were dirty and the room seemed unclean in general.
I had asked for a pedicure that was great for dry skin, and was willing to book a more expensive service than their basic, but was told that the basic was exactly what I needed. Wrong - it was just a foot soak and color. And the manicure was done on a towel that was covered in lint, so the lint kept getting in the polish which the manicurist would then dig out with her nails.
Finally, they don't have a nail dryer or drying spray, so even after sitting for over a half hour, my nails got mussed within minutes of me leaving. To add insult to an unpleasant experiece, the receptionist was beyond rude.
For the prices they charge, I expected much better service. I'm going back to the places I went before, the Aveda Institute and http://Nails.com in Lakeview, where the price is half of what I paid here and the services are great.
The name of this new spa is "Soothe Your Senses", and that is no accident. It is an absolutely wonderful and necessary addition to the Edgewater community. With everything from a basic manicure, to bathtubs filled with soothing and smoothing aromas (or relaxing, energetic, therapeutic, etc.). For those of you who don't care for all the bells and whistles, they do offer massage therapy, along with all the basics. Diana does a great brow wax, and Basia does a great manicure...quick and perfect! The services are by appointment only, but well worth it!
I scheduled a 60-min Swedish massage and it was wonderful. The spa has a very nice and relaxing atmosphere. I waited for about 15 minutes before the massage began, but I was not in a hurry. And although there were quite a few people at the spa, I didn't hear any talking once my massage began (a definite plus). Prices are competitive, location is easy to find, and not much of a problem finding a place to park. Appointments are a must, so if you want services on the weekend be sure to plan in advance.
I just finished my second anti aging facial and it was awesome! The results were fantastic and I was truly relaxed. I've also had great eyebrow waxes from Ivonna, who is terrific! I find it to be a relaxing experience every time!!
This spa is really wonderful. It's incredibly clean, the staff is friendly and the facility itself is lovely. I've had terrific massages here, excellent facials, and perfect mani/pedis. It's in an odd location (not much to do that far up on Broadway) but don't skip it. It's an oasis of spa-ness. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a day of escape.
I had a very similar experience as that of Kathy P. I too was scolded by the massage therapist almost immediately. She also asked me to let her know if pressure was too strong, then when I did, she told me that I really didn't know what type of massage I wanted. Nice way to start a massage - engaging in an argument. She made it clear that, with her 20 years of experience, my feelings about the massage were irrelevant. Also, just prior to beginning, she asked where I needed specific attention and I pointed to the areas of my lower and upper back that were bothering me. These areas were given no special attention, even when I asked her again during the massage to address these issues. I really should have just stopped the massage rather than submitting to a very uncomfortable atmosphere of an hour and 1/2. Also agree about the machine - and did not appreciate the spa membership sales pitch during the massage.
On a better note, my husband has gone to a different masseuse - Connie - and loved the experience.
i had a more than wonderful bikini wax and swedish massage today at soothe your senses - pleasant and soothing surroundings - friendly staff and excelllent own line of aromatherapy products - i'll definitely be back - although i live in the area, i would definitely recommend the trip for anyone who lives outside of edgewater/andersonville - truly, a lovely treat!
