this places definitely does not need any more 5 star reviews...but i wanted to give a shout out to my girl BOKHARA, who is amazing!  i can't live without my monthly botanical facial with her.  she incorporates massage and with a focus on pressure points with this facial.  (fyi - i get massages regular because i carry all my stress on my neck and shoulder...)

and, instead of waxing, i have been going to Bokhara for sugaring.  i personally find the results much better.

After two very brutal, high pressure, work-at-all-hours years in San Francisco, I finally did a good thing for myself at the start of 2011: I found a great massage therapist - Gayle - at Soothe (thanks to positive Yelp reviews for the salon). I gave 2-3 other places a go before Soothe, and it's been Gayle ever since, every month.

First, on Soothe itself - it's a small, charming salon with two small rooms, but they don't scrimp on products, towels, or the experience (padded, heated tables with fluffy blankets).

Gayle is an exceptional, skilled aesthetician. She listens, knows just where to focus (for example, after an intense travel period, she could feel the tension in my calves and neck, and work it), and of course, she can change pressure depending on what your needs are. She really takes time to get to know your body and works every muscle deeply; I come out of every session feeling amazing.

I know a lot of people love using Groupon, LivingSocial, etc. deals at salons all around the city. If that's your schtick -- getting a deal, good for you. But if you're serious about working with a professional who can help you out long-term, I highly recommend you find someone you are comfortable with, trust, and does excellent work, and stick with it for a while. You will see a difference.

Gayle is my go to person for massage therapy. I am a starving artist like most of us and juggle "300" jobs that require repetitive motion just to get by in this lovely city we call home. So when I get the extra cash to see her I do.
I've read others mentioning intuition in there assessments of their practitioners and I would also have to follow in that mode of description. She is very intuitive to your body'e needs and is highly educated in her field of practice.
Bottom line is she listens to you and your body, makes recommendations and leaves you feeling rejuvenated or on those days when you need the deeper work... repaired.
    THANKS GAYLE!

Such a cozy, neighborhood day spa! I love getting facials from London & Dana!  They are fun, attentive, educated, compassionate and great at what they do!  They carry great skincare products that are affordable.  I also recommend them for all of your waxing needs!  Dana is especially good at waxing, which is hard to find!  Try out all of their services & make them your regular local spa!

Soothe was a great find. My skin was in need of major help. I experienced frequent break outs on a weekly basis. I yelped an esthetician and found Soothe which is a convenient walk away from my home. Briann is wonderful. Very calm and such a nice person. Soothe has evening appointments as late as 7 PM. They have also turned me onto a new skin care line in a non-pushy manner. I have never felt pressure to buy anything here which is unlike other experiences I have had with facials and estheticians. I usually walk out with a ton of products that I never use. My skin has changed for the better since I started seeing Briann and using the line of products at Soothe. The price for the service is extremely reasonable and the quality of service is fantastic. You aren't sacrificing anything because you aren't paying $200 for the service. Soothe also offers online booking which is great.

I had my first facial in like 12 years. I thought I might be a lost cause. Very sweet staff. I had Briann. she was very soothing and patient with all the rubbish that she picked out of my face. I left feeling like my face was soft and clean. very attentive staff. non pushy ,didn't try to sell me anything and gave me ample samples to try . I learned a little bit about my skin. Definitely recommend this spa.

Bokhara is a pure delight. Her calm sweet energy is the first thing you will notice. She treats you like royalty and always creates a memorable experience, leaving me feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and beautiful in every way. Her attention to detail is also very special and her unwavering commitment to organic natural ingredients is unique and rare in the spa industry. I highly recommend Bokhara's Embody Zen treatments.

DANIEL is the best massage therapist I have been to ! I have been going to see him for a while now, for work related neck, back pains and a Sciatic problem. He has worked wonders with my Sciatic pain. He told me he also works at a Physical Therapy office, so I lucked out as he really know how to address pain and injury. Every time I go to see him, I go in feeling sore and crotchety ,and come out feeling comfortable and completely rejuvenated ! The space is wonderful low key well presented and being a guy not off putting. I HIGHLY recommend Daniel and Soothe both my wife and I have had great experiences in their capable hands!

For our anniversary, my boyfriend bought me a gift certificate to Soothe SF.  I had never heard of Soothe before, but he did some research (yes, on Yelp) and must have come to the conclusion that Soothe was the best option out there.  After my visit to Soothe, I now know why it's an award-winning spa!

First off, Soothe has an online booking system. I was able to easily set up my facial appointment at the tip of my fingertips. All the information you need to know about (masseuses, estheticians, types of deals/packages, etc.) is available on their website. I booked my "Soothe Facial" with Dana Craft, who seemed to have exceptional reviews everywhere. You also have the option of adding-on extras such as a face wax and hand/feet massage.

Soothe is a really small, cozy 2-door spa located on Hayes. I arrived at my appointment really early, and the friendly receptionist greeted me promptly. She offered me tea, water, and told me to make myself feel right at home. When it was time for my appointment, Dana introduced herself and gave me a thorough explanation on my facial process.

Dana is amazing! She is not only friendly, but she knows exactly what her clients need and want. My skin felt like it was reborn and I felt so rejuvenated after getting my facial. She tailored the products according to me and my skin. If you're worried about your sensitive skin getting irritated, don't worry they have a TON of products that can be used on many different skin types. Extraction can really hurt, but Dana walks you through everything. She is very down to earth, and she is the most honest esthetician I've ever met! She's not afraid to tell you "this is what you're doing wrong" and "this is how you can treat your skin better". I HIGHLY recommend Dana Craft for facials, and I definitely recommend Soothe Spa! I want to come back in six weeks and do it all again!

i received a facial from Briann McCoy.  Let me just say it was the best facial I have ever got IN MY LIFE!

i like a combination of relaxation and thoroughness and this is EXACTLY what i got.  She prepped my face with amazing products and then went to town with extractions (which i enjoy and specifically requested.)  Afterwards she gave me a wonderful massage both face and upper body.... she definitely has the magic touch!

Highly recommend her for face concerns, monthly facials, or just a pick-me-up when you are feeling dull and stressed.   I felt sooooooooo good and relaxed when i left the place.

WIll definitely make her my monthly go-to girl!  Thank you Briann!!!!

I once had a yoga teacher tell me that there are some days that we feel so weird and emo and gloomy, that all we want to do is lay around in our sweat pants, sigh heavily, and eat a whole box of mac n cheese.  (I have spent a lot of time assessing whether that is me on "some days" or rather *most* days...) These days, however, we probably, more than ever, need to pay a little attention to what's really wrong with us.  I'm a firm believer in (though not a fantastic practitioner of)  taking care of and being good to my body.  So when I was given a massage at Soothe as a gift, I was happy to indulge.

My first massage with Gayle was amazing. She has a calm demeanor, strong and consistent pressure (upon request), and a compassionate vibe that puts me at ease.  She makes sure that the massage is the most beneficial for me by starting each session with a few questions about what's going on in my body. It reminds me of my favorite yoga teacher (Coleen at Bend SF, a few doors down), or any yoga teacher, for that matter, who seems to take an individualized interest us students.  After each massage I have had, I have had a fantastic night's sleep. Much needed. Much appreciated.

There is definitely something to be said for compassion and its place in well being.  I have a lot to learn.

    I love Soothe Spa!

It's small, warm, and nicely decorated. The estheticians and massage therapists are very down to earth and professional. Couldn't ask for anymore more inviting- it is exactly what I look for in a spa.

I particularly love that they use natural/organic products as much as possible and that they are eco-friendly.

My massage with Janet DeHart was amazing! I understand she no longer works at Soothe, but I enjoyed every moment of my 90min massage with her.

I recently went back to Soothe for a wax with Dana (esthetician). Dana is awesome :) She's very knowledgeable and sweet. I felt very comfortable with her during my (first) underarm wax. She made me feel very comfortable. I asked her about my rosacea and she offered a lot of good advice. She didn't try and sell me anything extra and was very forthcoming with information to help me deal with my rosacea problem at home even though I was only there for an underarm wax.

I was very happy with my wax and experience in general and I definitely plan on returning for facials and future waxing with Dana.

I got a gift certificate to go here and was given a facial by Bokhara. It was, hands down, the most relaxing and soothing facial I have ever gotten. The room was really dark and she asked me to choose my own aromatherapy. She really knew what to do with her hands- my neck, head, face, arms, hands and even feet were given special treatment and felt amazing! She was also very thorough with extractions, my skin looked great afterwards and I didn't get any breakouts from irritation. I strongly recommend Soothe and especially Bokhara! Lovely, rejuvenating experience!

Rebirth. Yes, it is tangible, thanks to the miracle workers at Soothe.
So my queen for a day experience began with Gayle, who gave me an aamaaaazing facial. I especially loved her passion fruit teabag addition to the steamer, really did it for me! My skin has looked incredible in the following days, no breakouts, & I DO look good for my age!
The 2nd hour was also heavenly, with my new favorite massage goddess: Terri. Magnificent. Perhaps the BEST massage I have ever had. She's a total sweetheart too :)
Soothe is a gem of an oasis!

I got a living social coupon for soothe spa for a facial and a message, both done by Bokhara. The facial was really good, she was very attentive regarding my sensitive skin issues and was very gentle.
The massage was ok,  i am used to firmer massages but i did feel refreshed after the whole experience.
The only problem i had was booking an appointment maybe bcoz i used a living social deal but it was tough to lock in a date to use the service

Today I received a facial from Briann for the first time and it was one of the best facials I have ever had. I highly recommend her! Actually, every time I have been there for a facial I have left feelin' like a million bucks.

Amazing place.  Super small and intimate, i don't think they do more than 2 people at a time.  And when they're in the middle of a session they lock to the front door so that nothing can interrupt the experience.

    Yes, it is an experience!

It started off a little odd because it is in the middle of a neighborhood so I was like is this REALLY it?  Plus it looks like it was probably in the location of a former residence because the room I was in seriously reminded me of a bedroom.  Thaaat was probably the end of the oddness.  Gayle was my masseuse and she was not only very good at giving a massage, she was very knowledgeable about the human body.  And she was very eager to tell me about what was going on so that shows she really is into what she was doing and wasn't just another jane schmoe working a 9-5.

    Highly recommend!

Terri was absolutely fantastic! She is an incredibly skilled and professional  massage therapist, but also has a personality and warmth that makes you feel like you're being pampered by your best friend. She gave me some great insight and advice on some of my problem areas. She also adeptly spoke to both Western and Eastern schools of thought about massage therapy, with equal knowledge and respect, which is absolutely essential for me. The spa itself is cozy and elegant at the same time. Just an overall wonderful experience--I'll be going back to see Terri very soon!

I had a great first massage here with Liz. I'm very sensitive to pressure and pain, and the massage made me feel like Gumby afterward without any pain during the massage. My second massage here was pretty painful, but the salon owner gave me a full refund. The massage therapists here are independent contractors, so the individual collects your payment and tip after the session. This makes it very difficult and awkward to complain or ask for a refund to their face, but the salon owner is very accommodating.

I've been looking for a good massage place for a while.
I've been around the block in terms of trying out new massage places... like a massage slut in a way, but less slutty.
Im always open to suggestions, so I listened to a friend when she told me to try this place out.
I got a massage with Gayle, and it was flipping awesome!
Im sick and tired of all these massage places that just rub your back and dont really massage anything, I always leave really angry as opposed to relaxed because I had to pay money for a crappy massage.

Back to the awesomeness of this massage, it was awesome. I could not describe it in any other way. Gayle is a miracle worker. Go find her and never let her go!!
I have her booked for the rest of this month though, so stay away!!!

Do you LOVE relaxing? Do you love a masseuse who customizes a massage just for you? If so, then Janet is the masseuse for you.

Make a reservation online, and then show up. Parking may be a little tricky, so leave enough time to find some.

I originally made an appt for a 90 minute hot stone massage (my first). However, we were having a crazy 80-degree weather day in SF, so Janet was explaining, that it may get too hot in the room/for my body. We settled on a mostly swedish/partially stone massage, and it was just what my body needed after my 7K.

I really like how homey this place feels. Its pretty close from the panhandle, in a pretty residential area.
I've been here twice, the first time i was here i got a massage with Adriene I believe her name was, and second from Gayle...I honestly cannot bring myself to say which one was better.
Both massages were so relaxing, I had to fight my eye lids from shutting down.
I need to make this place a weekly ritual, I think my life would be
so much better that way, lol.

I love Soothe, and highly recommend Dana. I've had facials all over the city. But as soon as I found Dana at Soothe I only go here. My dermatologist first recommended her and I'm so happy he did. My skin has improved and my whole home skin care regimen is vastly better.

The products Dana uses are the best, especially In Fiore and Astara. I can't say enough glowing things about In Fiore. They're a local company and WOW. Unreal. Astara is great too, and afforable--I use their blue flame mask religiously.

Go see Dana, use these products, buy the Clarisonic (it's like the Sonicare toothbrush but to clean your face!) and you will have clear, healthy skin. And it's a great value so won't break your wallet. I have to add that the bed at Soothe is heaven. It's heated perfectly. And my favorite part of the treatment might be when Dana points to the bed and lets me know that "my chariot awaits." You'll feel like royalty, and who doesn't need their own personal chariot to carry them to Soothe-dom?

She didn't push any products on me whatsoever which was awesome. Looking forward to coming back for another facial with Briann!

I was referred to Janet Dehart by a friend and she is AMAZING!!!  I have been going to her for a while now and I am never disappointed.   I had a super stressful week and just needed to relax and release tension in my body.  She has the magic touch.  After her massages I feet at peace and like I can breathe again.

I have had tons and tons of massages from all over the world and I have never had anyone be so in tune and know exactly the amount of pressure with what I need.  SHE IS INCREDIBLE.  She was professional and has had lots of experience.  I would recommend her  if you want to feel complete bliss.

Take 2 at Soothe this time with Gayle for a pre-wedding massage and facial, a treat to myself before the wedding.  To be honest I love massages and rarely get facials because normally while the skin looks good after, it never lasts and I'm not sure about the long-term benefits but massages I love!!!

Gayle was amazing, she did deep tissue but somehow it wasn't painful at all and when she stretched me my back definitely made a few cracks to snap back into place as it should be.  She loosened up the muscles and heated them up enough for my back to do the rest by itself which is how it should be.  I always get tension in my neck and shoulders and most masseuses like to apply a lot of pressure and pain and it hurts after but not always with beneficial results.  This massage was different and so relaxing.

The facial was fun too, although I admit I love the glowing results more than the actual process.  But everything was smooth, nice, nothing was uncomfortable, even the extraction was gentle where's some places seem to torture you.  I am a believer that skin is fragile and should be take care of not abused.

I would absolutely come back for this treatment, 2 hours of pampering with great results to both body, mind and face.  The spa is super cute, in a very quite neighborhood so it's easy to get there and park and then go home and relax.

Yes, similar to other reviewers, I really enjoyed my first visit to Soothe.  I actually found it because of Yelp.  Plus, since I mentioned Yelp, I got a 10% discount.  Thanks, Yelpers!

I love how you can book online - instant gratification!  It's just easier than leaving a message, and getting someone to call you back to confirm.  I was able to book my appointment the night before, and I got Gayle.  She was great, and the signature facial was wonderful.  Sadly, my neck massage just highlighted how f-ed up my back is, and how I really need to get more body work done.  I should have tried to squeeze in a deep tissue massage at the same time.  Maybe next week.  ;-)

Dana rocks my world. You never imagine that you might have fun getting a bikini wax, but i do every time. She's quick and thorough. Also, hilarious, which is a good distraction when your engaged in this particular activity. And if you go regularly, you get a discount! I live right across the street, but if I move, I'll commute.

The spa itself is small and cozy, which I like. It can be a little loud, but that's usually me laughing, so I apologize.

Yay! Yelp, don't let me down.

I went here today based on the yelp reviews I read, and it was just what the doctor ordered. I'm always apprehensive about seeing a new massage therapist, especially after finding the perfect woman back in Colorado and having gone through so many disastrous failures. There's nothing worse than a horrible massage.

Anyway, I booked online last night (how's that for convenience?) with Gayle who was awesome. Her bedside manners are amazing, and she's very easy to talk to in a personal and professional way. More importantly, I had maybe five minutes to describe what I wanted, and she followed through exactly as though I'd spent the whole day describing what I needed. I needed to relax, but I needed to have the kinks in my hands, wrists, back and neck worked out.

Awesome experience, and I'll definitely be back for more.

I gotta give it a hand to Soothe, they're a spectacular oasis of comfort and relaxation hidden away in the middle of the neighborhood. I've gone in and gotten a few massages from Janet, who is absolutely spectacular. Every time I walk out after a massage, I feel incredibly refreshed, relaxed, and inspired. I have multiple friends who have gotten facials from London, and they sing her praises. I mean they SING her praises.

I think the thing that makes Soothe work so well is that they're incredibly down-to-earth and responsive towards their customers. The reason they know just what to do is that they're *listening* to you and paying attention. This place is an incredible treat.

Now I know why Soothe has 150+ 5-star average reviews. I had the best massage of my life here, and that's no exaggeration.

I've had my share of massages at others spas before, but nothing compares to the massage with Gayle over the weekend. I am so glad I found this place (thanks to a gift certificate I received). She definitely knows and understands the muscle formations, individual concerns, and just the right amount of pressure to unknot those tense muscles. She even had me do deep breathing exercises to help me relax further. Don't waste your money going to fancy, pretentious spas - go get a REAL massage at Soothe!

Making an appointment can be easily done online.  However, they're a small spa and don't have a full time receptionist.  They lock the front door during treatments so you might have to stand outside and wait for your appointment if you arrive early.  I would get there no more than a few minutes before the appointment.

I'm for sure coming back for more massages and to try their facials too!

Despite being on the other side of the city than my house I was quite pleased with my visit to Soothe. Dana greeted me with a warm smile and a solid handshake (call me crazy, but I honestly think you can tell a lot about a person by a simple handshake) and immediately my blood pressure went down and I felt a sense of calmness come over me.

Dana was very thorough in her diagnostic evaluation of my skin and made sure my at-home regiment was suitable for my needs and if it wasn't, she made realistic recommendations at low cost options without seeming like she was trying to make a profit off of me. After explaining what my problem area's were she quickly diagnosed the right treatment for me and went to work.  Dana stopped at nothing to make sure I was comfortable, relaxed and was receiving the best treatment possible based on my specific needs. I can tell you with confidence, this being two weeks post facial, that my facial was not only relaxing but extremely effective. My skin has been thanking me ever since I treated it to a heavenly hour with Dana.

Not only is my complexion more fair and beautiful but I feel more confident going out without makeup (you girls know what I'm talking about!) and I look forward to my next treatment!

This place is a nice neighborhood joint, very small and tucked away a few blocks from the panhandle.

I got a massage from Gayle W. She was a great therapist who focused exactly on the areas I mentioned and really had a wonderful touch. She worked out a big kink in my shoulder and she combined the smooth and thorough kneading of the massage with a little aromatherapy.  Gayle was really responsive to the different muscles and nerves in my body. She combined kneading with some manipulation of the arms and pressure on the pressure points. Clearly an experienced masseuse. The massage was finished off with hot towels to lightly rub off the massage lotion. I enjoyed it completely.

I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and they also give gift certificates; it would be a nice treat for another person as well. This is not the cheapest place in SF to get a massage, but I think definitely worth it considering the high quality.

I like my facialists to have flawless skin. Maybe it's prejudice, but I also want my dentist to have fantastic teeth.  Be your own advertisement, I say!

The woman who did my facial at Soothe had glowing, milky-white skin, so I knew I was in good hands.  I noticed that many reviews mention the owner, London, as the facialist.  This woman was named Jeska, but she was good, as well.   Her words were very positive, and her touch was relaxing.

Also, she didn't breathe all over me, which I've experienced at other spas.  Unless you have angelic, wrinkle-healing breath, please keep your burrito lunch to yourself.

Five stars because she used this cool lightsaber thing on my face.  I don't know what it did, but I'm pretty sure I can fly an X-Wing Fighter now.

This woman is easily the most outstanding esthetician in San Francisco. I have seen the inside of more skin care salons than I care to remember, and am happy to have found the creme de la creme to pamper and nurture me.

London's organic ingredients (never leave my sensitive skin irriated the way some facials can!) and gentle touch are sublime and always manage to leave me feeling relaxed, looking like the Queen of Sheba, and feeling like a million bucks. On top of that, her hilarious, down to earth personality makes me feel at ease - not tense like some uptight skin care divas can.

I'll never see another esthetician again. I'd move into her salon if I could........and go to see her as often as I can! Highly recommended!

London Elise rules. She is the nicest lady ever! I got to her shop and she made me feel very comfortable once i was there. She explained everything that she was gonna do to my back so i didn't have any shocking surprises (like the extractions, ahhh!)

You know how some boys hate flowerly smells..well she made sure that the products she was gonna use on me smelled good and that i wouldnt find them offensive... which is cool, because i didn't want to go back to work smelling like orchids. - she's very thorough.

oh yeah, great conversation, we talked about networking and how important it was, and now, through her, i now know of a GOOD dermatologist to go see! yay!

    I'll definitely be back!

Five Star Ratings at Yelp were created for London and Soothe.  In fact, I need to go back to all my reviews and rethink my "false-high" ratings for many, many restaurants and the like after experience the high quality service of London Elise and the Soothe experience.

It is so very very rare to find a business person who truly understands the customer service, the service service, and folow through care you need in a personal/body care profession.  London Elise can and will set the standard in this town!  The place is small, peaceful, Zen-like and calming.  It is not uber-trendoid, set in a large upscale Marina or FiDi location and full of ladies who lunch with silicon.  This is the place for chill people with needs like your's and mine.

First of all, London "gets me", my needs, your needs, and just about any city dweller's needs to get out of the (1) fog, (2) stress, (3) bum-filled sidewalks and into some peaceful retreat.  She wisks you into a comfy bed, asks you all your preferences and special requirements.  For me, having more allergies than the Boy in the Bubble, she had a s*&List to deal with I assure you.

We talked and talked and talked, and I still managed to fall asleep on the bed.  The place is beautiful and artfully arranged.  I loved her sense of decor, or customer service and the nice, beautifully calligraphied thank you note (YES! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, A MAILED, REAL, HONEST TO GOD, THANK YOU NOTE, MAILED!! NOT EMAILED!!!) mailed to my home appreciating me as a client.

Now, THAT is the way to earn my business, a great reputation and get raves and raves and raves of Yelpers!

Go with God Young London Elise!
    You rock grrrrrrrrrrrlllllllll, :o)

Joan is a really gifted massage therapist. I followed recommendations from other Yelpers and tried Soothe when my usual therapist in Noe Valley was completely booked.

She was funny and thoughtful, and asked great questions at the beginning. More so, she didn't back away from what surely looked like a challenge, as I walked in the door after finishing a particularly trying quarter at work and probably looked like a sizzling ball of stress with a crazed fixed smile on my face.

The best word I could use to describe Joan's style is "deliberate." She located a knot that was linked to countless lifts of heavy bags into overhead bins and hours at the computer, and went at it with dogged determination for at least ten or fiftteen minutes until it was gone. Most massage therapists seem to get bored with this kind of challenge, or feel like they should move on after a while to cover the usual circuit included in an hour-long booking, but thankfully Joan understood my chronic shoulder pain was probably sourced from here and was going to show this knot exactly who was boss. I was so impressed with her patience.

Highly recommended for yourself, or for a gift certificate to a friend or client.
