A great place to take a break from the heat. During my last recent trip late April it was 92 degrees! I delayed my trip usually around mid-March because I thought, gee it would be nice if it were a wee bit warmer. Wowza...92. A record heat wave since 1942.
I was also in NYC for the big ice storm the year before, and also the transit strike. What I'm getting at is that it's good to know where you can just get cooled off or warmed up, note there's a Starbucks in the Sony Store so you can grab a drink and a table for a bit.
Word of warning, you can take a load off by sitting down, but don't put your feet up on a chair. It won't take too long for security to come over and give you the stink eye, just like mom.
This is a great place to stop and reset when in the area. It is an attractive public space that when appropriate, you can sit with your laptop and answer emails and do what you need to do to prepare for your next meeting...
Great natural light. Nice place to hang out, catch a breath from the city. Just don't breathe too deep 'cuz who knows whether the person sitting at the table next to you showered or not.
This place has a nice little convenience store tucked in the middle--- my saving grace when my friend asked me to pick up a copy of the NYT, inauguration issue, when all of NY seemed to be sold out.
So I was here the other day with my sis who had an interview. While she was up rubbing shoulders with some hotshots, I was chillin' down in the lobby with Spiderman and resisting the urge to buy multiple pashminas out on the street for $5.
Really friendly people working at the Sony Wonder Tech Lab-I only went in for the restroom, but the woman taking tickets couldn't have been nicer. Definitely a chill place to grab a coffee and putz around on your laptop.
Fingers crossed for my sis!
Make some big, leathery friends in the film industry and snag a spot at the advanced showings at the Sony screening room. The big green leather arm chairs are comfy, but if you get there early enough you can snag a spot on the big, leather couches with the big, leather ottomans. The sound is wonderful, but it's not leathery. Minus a star.
I haven't been there in ages! I haven't been to Sony Wonder in a while. When I did, I had a great time, and I can't believe it was over ten years ago.
The atrium is a really nice space, especially after shopping, and there a Starbuck's (of course).
Oh, the reason I only give it 4 stars is because my ex was the robot. He might still be the robot. i wouldn't be surprised.
When you need wifi in midtown (as I do right now), this is the place to be. It's indoors and warm, but due to an amazing atrium has an outdoor feel. There are even a couple of birds that sneak in to give you that full outdoorsy feel. It's a "public arcade" as the sign says, so no need to buy that cup of coffee you don't really need just to have a legitimate claim to a table. However if you are caffeine depraved, they have a couple of coffee shops inside too.
It's also adjacent to a Sony exhibit called Sony Wonder. I went there when I was a little kid and remember having a great time, but I don't know how it's held up over the past decade.
popped in here to kill time. need a place to check your email real quick without getting a sales guy in your face. this is the place for you.
