Train Town is just a great little place for kids (and kids at heart). Listen - plenty of free parking and NO ENTRANCE FEE. They have about 8 rides that cost 1 ticket e.g. $2.50 or you can buy 5 tickets for $10. Example rides are the ferris wheel and spinning swing thing. We didn't go on any of the rides though because we only had time to go on.........

Their main attraction - the sonoma (scale) railroad train. The train costs more ($4.75) but don't let that deter you, it is worth it. The train circles around and around a huge (several acres) lot and there is so much to see. It also stops in the middle of the journey in a mini town called lakeview, which includes a petting zoo. The whole trip takes 15 to 20 minutes. My 3 year old son had a blast.

Highly recommended 1-2 hour diversion/reward for kids who had to sit through your winery tours.

The boyfriend and I were able to cuddle on our shared bench seat on a pleasant little train ride. My favorite part was stopping at the mini town/ petting zoo. I love you, llama with crazy teeth! Memorable moments include goats furiously licking my hand and immediately walking away once they realized I had no food for them, access to hand sanitizer on site, a dad pumping the fake well and his two year old son peeing in his pants (I know it sounds horrible to even point this out, but it amused me, okay), hanging out in the mini town and sitting on a mini bench which made me feel bloated and fat.

There were a bunch of rides but it didn't seem like there were any operators around so I couldn't enjoy them. Also, I think this place will be ten times more amusing once I have a two year old child to bring along.

A (mostly) kid's attraction, for sure, but one that is genuine and not a rip-off (like, for example, a nearby geyser).  Entry is free, rides are reasonably priced, and my 4 year boy absolutely LOVED the train ride--far more than I would have ever expected.

Nice to see something truly fun (for kids and, I assume, train afficionados) and priced correctly.

I'll admit, it's been awhile since I've been here, but every time I pass by, I mutter aloud, "hey, there is traintown."  I'm not talking to anyone in particular anymore.  Just kinda putting it out there.  A sort of, "if you stop, I wouldn't mind."

Maybe I just want the nostolgia of riding the train, maybe I want to pet the animals at the little petting zoo, or maybe I just want to be around other peoples kids.....errrrrr scratch the last one.

When my kids were little, they loved coming here.  Loved the train, loved the animals, loved the experience.  But FYI - It's somewhat a madhouse on summer weekends.

Good for a quick train ride or ferris wheel ride with the kids as a stop over. Just don't plan on making a day trip here as it's really not a destination but rather something to do on your way somewhere else. Be aware that if you bring the grandparents or plan on a big group there is nowhere to just hang out and plan your next move...there are only small benches and you will be stuck in the way of the train or blocking the paths around the park because the only 3 picnic tables cost $80 and you have to reserve them.

driving through sonoma with 2 hours to burn and a recommendation to see this place we stopped off for a short while.

The kids had a ball, it was very reasonable, and most importantly it was not overstuffed with kids.,

Staff were friendly ..... yadda yadda , you get the picture.

Growing up this was the place to go. Never thought I'd return until one glum day I had a bad break up and my good friends decided it was suiting to take me to train town. No booze, no kids just three grown adults having a ball remebering how it was once as a blissful, ignorant child at Train Town. Oh to be again. well, you get that feeling.. this will work quick. So much has changed since I was a child, the place seems just a big. They have a ferris wheel, snack shack, a pond, the goats of course, mock church and general store and the train ride is longer than I remeber. You pay to get in and then you buy tickets to ride the ferris wheel and the train. It's like $12 to get in... and a few bucks for a book of tickets. do yourself a favor and splurge, get a hansens cherry vanilla soda or an old fashion root beer too.. it feels good.
Great for kids. Localized and right across from Carneros restaurant.. for an after train town cocktail.

The model trains and track layout is perfect for the 2-4 year old set.  Landscaping is such that you feel like you are entering into a fairy tale forrest complete with bridges, creeks, dams, woodland creatures, hills and dales. Midway through is a stop at a little station with play areas, little houses and a petting zoo.

My kids were transfixed throughout.

The kiddy rides can be kinda lame, not that kids care. I found it a bit off-putting that they only had one attendant for three rides. This means that you had to follow the crowd en mass to the next ride despite pleas from my children to go on the same ride again. Maybe the rides are better manned when its busier?

All in all, the perfect bribe to kids to take a day trip up to Sonoma so the parents can get their wine tasting fix.

Traintown is a real gem.  I don't even have kids and I love this place, because it's such a timecapsule of another era.

Basically, the idea is a model train set blown up to little kid-size, which takes you through an old-timey town (complete with slightly creepy dolls as the townsfolk) to a petting zoo to pet some goats, and then you get back on the train and head back.  That's it!  When I went I was thoroughly hungover, but honestly was so amazed by the place that I forgot all about it and laughed the entire time.  They also have some rides, I think, and air hockey?

Yeah it's a little dingy and past its prime, but as someone who loves that sort of decades-gone place, I am so so happy it has survived as-is.  These places are getting rarer and rarer....

Traintown is a great kid friendly destination. It's kinda kitschy and could use a fresh coat of paint and some clean bathrooms but if you're heading up to Sonoma with the family it's a must see.

Took our 5 yr old granddaughter on a Saturday afternoon in March. Go on Sunday if you want to see the steam locomotive, or show it to your kid, because they only run the steam ones on Sunday. Train ride is enjoyable with lots of artificial animals and other little gimmicks for the kids to find. Miniature town at the petting zoo stop is interesting. Petting zoo has a couple of goats and an alpaca. Not exactly a big display, but sufficient for the small kids. Rides are pre-schooler level with airplanes, carousel and ferris wheel, and some others that go round-and-round.  Price is dramatic: Three people, including train ride for three, multiple purchases of food for alpaca and ducks, three carousel rides for kid and Grammy, all for a total of less than $25.

What is it with little kids and trains?  Funky little Train Town has been around since I was a little kid (and let's just say that's a while and leave it at that!!)  While the train route is showing it's age a little, I'm tickled that in the age where amusement parks feature every animated character your kids know from TV, the only Hollywood creations you'll see in this place are a very small Laurel and Hardy sitting on a bench watching the little train go by.

The major stopping point on this ride is the petting zoo.  The scenery approaching it is pleasant and pretty.  There are other rides aside from the train --- among them a ferris wheel, a little roller coaster, airplane ride and air swings.  The place is  fun for a varying age group --- we took five kids ranging in age from 2-12 and a great time was had by all.

If my niece didn't love this place so much I probably would've just given it 3 stars. This nice, mini amusement park hidden near downtown Sonoma is a great place to visit when in the area and does it's job of providing loads of fun for kids no taller than 58". The prices are ok, and the rides look a little rusty, but they assure you that the rides are regularly maintained. A few gripes I have about Traintown is that they are shorthanded staff wise, and the animals in the petting zoo look as if they aren't being properly groomed. Other than that, your kids will love it.

My son loves this place. But be warned parents, this is one of those places that your child is GOING to scream and cry when it's time to leave. Every time. No matter what. Believe me, we've tried everything! But when it's time to go, it is like the worst thing in the entire world just happened to my child. It sucks almost bad enough to keep us away. But, he has SUCH a good time there........ The train ride to the petting zoo is cool. We usually have to do that about 1 or 2 thousand times when we go. Your child will love it if they love trains. It's a really good spot to spend half a day.

Any place that has a ride on train is great especially for toddlers. I took my 2 year old and it was the saddest Good-bye for him. They have a ride on train that cost around $4.00 they also have a carousel, planes, Ferris wheel, roller coaster. We rode the planes and the Ferris wheel although as soon as he heard the train approaching he wanted out!!!! they don't have a food court they only sell snacks but quite limited. I would highly recommend bringing your lunch and snacks.

My son loves this place.  The train ride is pretty long and stops at a mini town with a petting zoo.  They have a lot of other rides, but hardly anyone operating the rides.  Just try to be patient, as someone will be with you shortly.  This place can fill up fast, so you might want to arrive when it opens and then head to the Sonoma Cheese Factory for lunch.
