Everyone else has already talked about the food and although I like Sonny's, it's not a destination for a true barbecue lover. Sorry. It's just not happening. What you do find here is tasty food, served fresh, and prepared pretty quickly. I normally get a plate of chopped pork and I love their fries and coleslaw. Add some of their sweet sauce and a giant sweet tea and my blood sugar is set for the day.
Again, this is franchised barbecue set-up to serve lots of people (not Bubba's secret recipe slow cooked for a day and then pulled off just for you). The servers are friendly and you can usually get seated at lunch, which is commendable since there aren't many places nearby that office workers can sit down for a meal during the work week.
Gag me with a spoon!! This was the WORST barbecue I've ever eaten, and I've been to some real dives in my day. The beef was incredibly tough... So bad that we ended up taking it home to our dogs and THEY didn't want it! Luckily, the chicken was tender enough that we could stomach it, but all the other meats (ribs, pulled pork, and brisket) were so overcooked and tough that we could have broken some teeth.
Go elsewhere, because this place sucks.
Tried it, never was terribily impressed. The meat seems to be a bit bland and not very tender.
It could just be a fluke, but there are better BBQ places nearby where I live - I am not going out of my way here unless I'm in the area.
