Ok so I admit that I haven't been here in at least 12 years, but since they are still around, it's a testament to longevity. I would go here with friends, or when I was working ('laboring' through my college years). The local police, sanitation and other forces make this their lunch stop, so I can imagine business is still always brisk. Whatever you order, you got a bad-ass portion of it, probably near a pound of deli meat. Cheese was 50 cents extra and was at least 6-8 slices. Bang on all the extras you want (mayo, mustard, oil/vinegar, salt/pepper, lettuce/tomato/red peppers) for little or no more extra. Likely it would run you about 6 bucks, which is phenomenal in any day and age. These guys cut the meat at full speed, they could probably win national arm wrestling competitions.
My epiphany came when a guy in front of me ordered a pepperoni and mozzerella hero, with EVERYTHING. The deli jockey took the stick (yes pepperoni stick, the small pizza kind, not the salami style!), and cut him thick pieces for a good 5-10 minutes, without skipping a beat.
He ordered a diet coke with that.
Though I have no plans to be in the area, maybe I will make a pilgrimage. Even if I never do, thank you Sonny's, for setting an excellent standard of deli sandwich expectations. I will NEVER desecrate your memory by going to Blimpie's or Subway. Jarod can kiss my ass.
First time I walked in I didn't know what I wanted. But he knew..... 4 minutes after watching him make the piece of art the guy told me to eat half because if I eat more I'll need a nap. My response was that I had a long night shift so a nap is not a bad idea. Couldn't resist but devouring half in my car while driving (I know not a good idea) Devoured the second half as soon as I got home. Had the best nap
