Interesting way to serve fast food. An old school concept with new or secondary copied food choices.

IT may not be all healthy but it's fun to eat semi junk fast food once in a while.

Don't forget to go during their happy hour!

Eek Methinks not is RIGHT! NO STARS!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole drive in bit is cute but you come for the food damnit. Not some cutesy crap. My burger was garbage.. a Mcdonald's hamburger or Burger King is better to tell you the truth. Actually there's a Del Taco across the way.. their burger is way better. I'm sorry but it's true.

The cheesecake bites I was excited for but no. It's not as magical as you might fantasize in your head from the commercial. The crust part is just too much and has a funky texture and taste to it. It's just disgusting. But if you must try.. go ahead and you'll think of my disdain and disappointment for them.

The only redeeming qualities were the hotdog, tator tots and beverages.. but who the hell screws a hotdog, tator tots and beverages up? Mmmm cherry limeade. So no people, don't believe the hype. This isn't dream worthy fast food. Artic Circle and In n Out is.. but not this. Bravo to their marketing team.. the brainwashing to lure you in is effective. Overrated.

I've seen all these commercials about Sonic and had never been to one.
So when I saw this one I went to it.
I ordered a corn dog, fried Mac&cheese appetizers, and a cranberry lime drink. When it came to the car hop spot I had to help the car hop make change for a $20 on a $4.88 order, she wanted to give me two five and change.

The corn dog didn't have any condimints, but drink was very good.

So not condiments, no napkins and the stuff is delivered just like as if you went thru a drive thru. Not sure I see what all the hype is about.
Although the drink was very good, maybe I'll just go back for the drinks.

I am also a Washington State resident, that gets teased by all of those sonic commericals.

Anyways,  We drove down just to get some route 66 cherry lime-aid.  It is the drink the gods!   Also the coney-style hot dog was yummy, as was, the banana cream pie milkshake.

The Jalapeno Burger was very spicy.

OH and the fry sauce rocks.

Since I was little I have seen the commercials for Sonic and thought -- why do they do that? There aren't any within a days drive of here..

Then I moved to Portland and someone told me a Sonic was within driving distance and it wouldn't be as long as that crazy astronaut who wore depends to kill her lover..she made a long trek for that and probably didn't even stop for a cherry limeade on the way..

I digress -- we drove out and sat outside...never been to a place where you ordered through a sign and/or sat in your car. I had the pleasure of giving a fake name -Rowena -- it has a good ring to it.

The food really wasn't good. I got tater tots which were pretty tasty but the chicken sandwich I tried was just plain.  I got a cherry limeade which was delish but I was very disappointed by the cookie dough blast!  What blast!? There were 3 pieces of cookie dough on top and the rest was just soft serve ice cream...

Maybe I should try again.. but for now when I see the commercials I just get sad -- not because its so far away but because its just not that good.

The hubby and I know Sonic from varying parts of the planet where we have either visited or endured for an extended period of time. Sonic was always a fun little diversion--reliably good, whatever fried, fat-laden choice was made. We stopped here on the long way back to the airport on our most recent visit to the area. Could have been anywhere. The food was exactly the same. Extra star for the fact that the hubby was stoked to find this place on our path.

Once in a while  I see those Sonic Drive In commercials on TV & I think, Why do they have to tease you? when its like a 185 mile drive from SEATTLE, WA.....  I drove 179.58 miles from WA, where I live just to visit this place. It almost felt like I was in a movie similar to Harold & Kumar's White Castle Movie. True Story =D   Anyways I enjoyed my first ever visit to this place. The Seattle Super Sonics can leave but they do need to replace them with a Sonic Drive-In  in Washington State.

5 stars for No-TAX in Oregon, & for making my day filled with Goodies =D

I was floored when I found Sonic had come to Portland (metro).  The one thing I regretted leaving in Arizona was here...life was complete.  Many memories were created at the drive-ups of those oasis and leaving was difficult...the cravings were hard to beat.

Slushes, foot-long Coney's and tater-tots.  A simple recipe for happiness.  Burgers are fair to middlin', slightly above fast food standard as is most of the menu.  The gripe I have is that it is more expensive than most joints, but for me it's more about memories.

Not only regular car hop service, but also condiment / napkin service!! Very clean and easy to find.  As others have stated... well worth the drive from Seattle.  There are some old favorites that are missing from this version... but the fried macaroni & cheese almost made up for it!

There is only one reason to go to this place and it is the chili cheese hot dog. It is almost a foot long and drenched with chili with a sprinkle of cheese on top. Everything else is whatever at best. Actually the tater tots  compliments the chili dog very well and maybe an icee but as far as food-wise goes, the chili cheese dog rules. Be warned though there can be a seriously long line for a car port if you wish to dine in your car there.

Best Onion Rings among the fast food joints along Cornell.
After having visited Buger King, Carl's Jr, Jack in the Box, and Sonic, these are the best rings.
Tastes like sweet onions, they don't fall apart with just a bite.
Carl's Jr on 185th are the worst rings.  Overcooked and crumbly.

Jonny, let me know the next time you're coming over for a slush.

I know it's a chain and has already won popularity in other states, but now we have one in Portland and I am so jazzed.  I almost gave up on fast food before this grease-laden, orange-cream slush slingin' burger joint reeled me back in.  Their chicken sandwiches, tots, and perfectly made hot fudge sundaes have been a late night munchie gift from above.
Sometimes they are pretty packed, but that has rarely if ever slowed the service much.  They still hold onto the tradition of servers on skates!  It's just rad! (Oh, yeah!  That's right! I'm bringin' it back!)

The Portland area now has almost no reason to leave because a Sonic has finally opened in Hillsboro. I experienced Sonic in Texas on a business trip based on my man's recommendation (and flew home with a few Coney's for him, too), then found one on a road trip through Boise, then Salt Lake City, and finally even on a trip to Reno, but I never thought there would be a day when I could drive less than many, many hours to reunite with all that is chili cheese heaven. And then it happened late in 2006. After driving out on weekends sometimes to see the progress of the building, one day there were cars lined up forever, and it was finally open. I went about 3 times that week.

An Extra Long Chili Cheese Coney with Chili Cheese Tots and a Blue Coconut Slush is just as wonderful as it sounds. The burgers aren't bad either. Any place that sells tots quickly gets an extra star or two from me, and serving breakfast all day (because my stomach doesn't always know what time it is and likes breakfast all hours) also gains a star or two. Being able to pull up into the stalls and sit in your car to eat is just neat, and the carhop thing is cool, too.

I would give it half a star less for not being super fast (maybe the drive-thru is, but I've only gone to the stalls to strap on my feedbag, and it can take awhile) and maybe another half a star less for being a little spendier than other fast food (that's what happens when you want to add chili and cheese to everything and also order a Frito's Chili Cheese Wrap), but I can't make myself remove a star when I think of all there is too love. And so, five stars it is. Sonic can do no wrong.

the one thing i absolutely love here are the different slushes.  from limeades to fresh fruit to energy drinks, they almost have it all.  this will be especially yummy when the hot summer nights arrive, Sonic's has late night summer hours.

once in a blue moon i'd order a foot long chili cheese coney dog, but other than that i dont care for the burgers or chicken sandwiches.  the bf loooves BLT toaster sandwich, its not on the menu but they'll make it.  i've had the sausage and gravy breakfast sandwich which made me feel like i just sinned after stuffing my cheeks with it, but damn it was a good sin.  also had supersonic brakfast burrito... once.  i loved it so much i had the runs an hour after.

that's ok, i still like them = )
