9 reviews for Sona Thirteen
This was my first time at Sona, and my first time spending a night out in Morristown actually. The bar and restaurant is a great space, high ceilings, lots of exposed brick and several HD TVs showing various sports games. The beer list is superb, about 15 drafts and around 30-40 bottles from around the US and Europe. Some really unique ones including Young's Chocolate Stout and Wexford's Irish Cream Ale. The wings were delish, and the bartenders were extremely quick and efficient for the huge crowd (mostly mid to late 20s, from the area...Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson are very close by).
I will definitely make a return trip if I can, but you should check out Sona 13 for yourself.
Researched a bar to spend the night in Morristown, the reviews on Yelp said that this is where the good-looking 20 somethings go. I have to say I have to disagree. More boys than girls. And the boys were better looking than the girls.
Drinks were strong and cheap. Music was good, the place got crowded real quick as it got closer to midnight. Casual place but the girls were dressed nice for most part.
Hip-hop mixes. TV screens showing baseball and some other crap.
If I ever were to go back to Morristown, I would go back there, only cause it looked like the only best thing in town.
Tip-bits:
Cider on tap only on the first floor bar
Dance action was on the first floor.
Sona 13 offers a lot of different things, so it's kind of hard to give it an overall rating since it does some things better than others.
Sports Bar (5/5)
I think this place is awesome for games. During football season they have cool specials that are dependant on the games (e.g. Eli throws a touchdown (impossible I know), dollar jager shots). They also have big screen HD tv's everywhere. One of the best options in NJ for watching a game. Plus, their beer selection is good.
Happy Hour Spot (4/5)
Not particularly good specials, but the crowd is actually better than on a Friday Night I think. Live Bands can be hit or miss. On Thursdays they have free food which sounds pretty good but I haven't made it outto that yet.
Restaurant (4/5)
Typical Bar food, but I gave it a good rating because chicken sandwiches and wings are very tasty. Their fries are awesome too.
Night Bar (4/5)
The bar has a nice setup. Music can be good when they have a DJ. The crowd seems to be different every night. Sometimes it looks like a just turned 21 crowd, other nights it's late 20s mostly. Beers are about 4.50 which isn't bad. They don't have Wild Turkey though. Basterds.
Finally, get here before 1130 or you could be waiting in line with some zombies.
Always a great time, fantastic bartenders, and the dj is decent. Lots of TVs which make it a great bar to hang around and watch the games. The place is consistently crowded but never to the point of discomfort. I prefer Sona as a night spot to hang out with friends, but their food is good,, and they also have a really great HH.
I went here with a few friends for some drinks and appetizers. The martinis are delish and beers even better. The beer list can cover all different taste buds.
I recommend the sausage and mushroom appetizer... SOOOO amazing.
Great indoor/outdoor space for people watching. Although if you are not a big fan of smoking do not sit closest to the door.. nothing but smoke comes your way
I've heard it called "Modern Irish" but it feels like a combo brewpub/bar/lounge with a decent restaurant. Good bar options including a great back bar with a pile of microbrews, this huge place gets packed to the brim with mid20s-30s types on Fridays and Saturdays.
Music tends to be solid with a good DJ on Friday and small local bands on other days. Not exactly a great date place but the ideal place to meet up with friends as long as it's before 11pm; after that they can wait in a line for a while.
While I know Morristown is no Hoboken or NYC, within a 20-mile radius it's the best place around, so unless you are looking for a college hangout or a dive bar give it a shot.
I have been to Sona 13 a bunch of times now since it opened last fall and it has been a consistently solid place to come whether it be for happy hour or more late night. If given the choice of where to go to grab a drink at any of the pub-type bars in Morristown, Sona 13 would probably be my first choice.
They have two bars upstairs and one downstairs.
Good variety of beers on tap.
One thing worth noting is that every Thursday and Friday for happy hour (from 4 to 7 PM I believe) they provide free food. Last time I went they had wings, pasta and a carving station.
By far the best bar in Morristown if you are looking to keep the expenses down and have a fun night. Solid food, but the real value is in the bar scene. Good looking people, good music and good (read: strong) drinks. This place has basically saved the bar scene in Morristown for people in their 20's.
Wow, so after SM23 opened up in Morristown, I guess numbers became the new thing in naming bars. Sona 13 is an okay space if it wasn't for the bum next to me, the smelly guy behind me, the one server on the bar, the drinks being spilled all over me, and the fact that I thought I was the oldest person in the place. I'm not that old, but I'm not 18 with a fake id anyway. If you have any sense try Sushi Lounge or SM23, both in Morristown.
