9 reviews for Somewhere In Bangkok
My Aunt took us here today for lunch. The place is beautifully decorated inside! I must say I was a bit taken back and skeptical to see a nice caucasian lady to be our waitress - but hey, as long as there's someone authentic making the food, I'm all set!
My Aunt was ecstatic about the drunken noodle - which someone at our table had ordered with beef, other orders were from the stirfry section, both were tasty. I had the Bangkok Fried Rice with Number 4 Spicy (scale goes from 1-5). The fried rice was pretty good, but next time will go with number 5 spicy.
The Bangkok tea was also very delicious, with a hint of coconut to it.
I personally have a love hate relationship with Thai food, but was impressed with Somewhere in Bangkok!
Surprising and impressive!
I remember when I first went here shortly after they opened and being really Wow'd by the decor inside since the outside looks very plain and it shares a parking lot with an auto mechanic shop. Bright blue and orange colors with dark tables fill the small but comfortable dining area. The seating against the walls are benches with decorative pillows scattered around. The plate presentation is festive and modern as well.
There's no space for a waiting area, so it may be cramped when you walk in if there are groups waiting for tables and takeout orders. I'm glad to see this place packed the last few times I stopped in. This place better stay in business... it's easily the best Thai food in the area.
My wife never ate Thai food until I ordered from here, and now she craves it. The Pad Thai and drunken noodles are top notch, along with the Pad Prik King and Thai Basil stir fry.. The wings they have for the appetizer are good too(I'm kinda into chicken wings). You also can't go wrong with the curries. The Tom Yum Goong soup had too much of a seafood taste for what I like, but was still good. I have had many of their dishes and there hasn't been one I don't enjoy.
The service is excellent and the staff is ultra friendly. On one visit for a take out order the waitress at the register for no reason gave me a key chain from Thailand that she said would be good luck. You don't see rare gestures like this in other restaurants.
We decided to order takeout for lunch - the Drunken Noodles and Bangkok Noodles. My husband picked up the order and was shocked that takeout lunch would cost $30. The second shock was when he got home and opened up the bag to see how small the portions were. It was about 1/4th of what you get when you eat in the restaurant. I had been very impressed with the place before - but this really changes my opinion.

We stopped in for lunch this weekend. I think this is now our favorite Thai restaurant - it… Read more »
My husband and I are Thai junkies, so we had to check this place out; we were psyched about the great reviews here but were let down when we tried it for ourselves. Somewhere in Bangkok is clean, comfortable, and cozy inside. We ordered the summer rolls, Tom Yum Somewhere, and the Jungle Curry, and while we were impressed with the freshness and good preparation of all the ingredients, there was a lack of authentic Thai flavor across the board. Although we ordered our dishes spicy, they still felt (and tasted) watered down, which was a shame. Even the Thai tea tasted watery. Also, the service was sluggish and the price was surprisingly high. All in all, Somewhere in Bangkok is good, but not the greatest, and definitely not the best bang for your buck!
My husband and I ate here for the first time last night.. The Drunken Noodles knocked my socks off! I also got the Fried Tofu as an appetizer, which was a lot bigger than I expected. Hubby got a curry shrimp dish, and a crab appetizer that was on special. I like that this place is BYOB, although I don't know if they have a cork fee. The place filled up really quickly, and the tables are sort of close together, but people didn't seem to mind. I can't wait to eat my left-overs for dinner tonight. I highly recommend this place, but don't tell too many people about it, or else we'll never be able to get in :)
11/16/08 - We went for a second time last night - stuck with the Drunken Noodles. Still really good!
My boyfriend and I went here over the weekend - it was his 1st time eating Thai and my 2nd time. I always drive by this place and read the reviews on here and have been dying to try it.
We went inside and there weren't too many people there so we were seated right away. I was surprised at how small the place was.
We ordered edamame for an appetizer. I also ordered the Spicy and Sour Soup, while my boyfriend ordered the Coconut Soup. They were both really tasty and definitely had a different type of flavor. The only negative I had was that the shrimp in my soup still had the tails on it. It's just weird to have to pick the shrimp out of my soup to take off the tails!
For our meals, I ordered the Drunken Noodles, and he got the Pad Thai. We decided we were going to get it spicy - the waitress asked what amount of spice from 1-5 and we chose 3. I think next time we will take it down a notch! Both of our meals were really delicious. My boyfriend really liked his (which was a relief because then I would never hear the end of it!) and mine was really good too. The spice was tolerable, but I think I will get it less spicy next time so that I can avoid my nose running haha. I literally ate until I couldn't eat anymore and continued to unbutton my pants once we got in the car.
Service was quick for the most part, and the bill was pretty inexpensive. I'm pretty sure we will be back for more, but less spice next time!
Had dinner here this last weekend. What a great experience! The food was fantastic. We had Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles (AWESOME!), and some garlic dish. They were all very well prepared. There has a ton of flavor and it wasn't drenched in nasty oil. As a side note, when I went to the bathroom, I couldn't believe how nice and clean they were...by far the nicest public bathroom I have ever been in!!! On your way to the bathroom, you can get a glimpse of the kitchen, which looks absolutely spotless. One of the people I was with knows the health inspector for the town and she said this place is one of the cleanest places to eat around. Oh yeah, it is BYOB! HURRY GO NOW!
had lunch today from BKK - yellow curry with tofu & veg .. it had a nice spice kick to it, but wasnt over the top - the glowing yellow orangey sauce looked toxic and was totally delicious. a great place, reasonable prices. cute interior. nice staff. crappy parking lot. wish it was closer to the office.

I was kinda bummed to find that I wasn't the first to review, but oh well. Congrats Lisa!!!
This is a new place that was sort of a random find for me. On the way home from NY my friend and I stopped for food and after passing gas station and McDonald's after McDonald's we found a giant red sign: "Thai Food Now Open" or something like that and we thought we were going to have an orgas..... anyway
The place is awesome, very comfortable, friendly, and since it's new, has barely anyone in there. I'm hoping to change that with my 5 star review, because I will make a stop here every time I'm in the area. Without a doubt. It has Tofu, Beef, Chicken, Veggies, whatever as choices for almost everything on the menu, which is laid out rather simply and nicely (however small the print and some misspellings). The service is friendly and competent, but not annoying. The food isn't spectacular, but it's definitely better than a lot of Thai places I've been to... The Pad Thai is weird because they keep the peanuts and the bean sprouts separated on the same plate, and it's very very saucy, but still really good. We also had a 2-Chili rated Spicey Meal - I think Prik Khing with Beef that was really really good.
mmmmm I'm a Thai Food Zombie...
