I was not happy with the food here at all.  My friend ordered an egg white omelet and that was the only good thing that came out.  Luckily, they know how to make eggs.  I ordered poached eggs with salmon croquettes.  They were horrible.  The food took forever to come out and we were the only table there.  The three of us...  This restaurant  has alot of work that needs to be done.

I have  four words: collard green spring rolls!

I took the hubster here for an early Daddy's Day dinner. We arrived during the transition from brunch to dinner and had a little bit of a wait for our grub, but that was fine. The waitstaff was really nice and accommodating and we were comped a couple of beverages for having to wait.

The salmon cake appetizers were moist, delicious and devoured by my 4 year old. And the previously-mentioned spring rolls were delicious.

The hubster had the seared salmon, the child had the BBQ chicken wrap and fries and I had the Stuyvesant salad with grilled shrimp. In the words of the hubster, "This food is tight. Everything here is just tight."

That means he enjoyed it, and so did I!

Picture it...3:50 PM on a warm Saturday Afternoon.  Myself and my friends, one of whom came all the way from TEXAS to hang with us, arrive at Solomon's Porch.  According to the Solomon's Porch website they serve brunch until 5:00 PM.  So we arrive, ready for what we believe will be a tasty, fun afternoon with friends.

"We're no longer serving brunch" huffs our service as she hastily places dinner menus in front of us and disappears.  When she finally does resurface and we ask her what time do they stop serving brunch "4 o'clock"....and hastily disappears.  Now, we are confused....because as stated...it's 3:50 PM.  When we finally see her again, we mention that the  website stated that they serve brunch until 5:00 Pm, "We're no longer serving brunch"

Disappointed and in utter disbelief with the service....we wait...a few anxious minutes.  We know that they will turn this around.  Surely the server will come to us and assure us that there are good dinner options and that we should stay.  Surely she will apologize for the confusion on the website and assure us that it will be corrected.  Surely...they will try  to  remedy the situation.

Alas, no remedy was offered...no solution, nothing.  All we got were huffs, puffs and an eager dismissal.  In this day and age, with the economy the way it is...can anyone really afford to lose a customer???!!!  Can you really lack service in that way?    Restaurants are a costly business, with waste and overhead....good customer service saves you money.  The repeat customer is the bread an butter of the restaurant  business.

My friends and I love to eat out...all the time (Yet we remain in shape and SUPER fabulous!) Eating out is our way of connecting, sharing the tales of the previous week and hopes for the future.  Sometimes we eat out multiple times a day!!! (Though we are accomplished cooks in our own right....we're just too tired to cook)  The restaurants that we love, we support them Time and Time again.

Solomon's Porch lost out on some great repeat customers.   But what was Solomon's Porch's lost was Peaches gain.  Peaches restaurant is where we took our business that day and it was FANTASTIC!  I will be posting my review on peaches shortly...look out for it.!!

All in all DO NOT wast your time or EVER  set your foot, pinky toe or whatever into Solomon's Porch!!  The service is a mess and they do not value yours or anyone else's business.  Please stimulate the economy elsewhere, like at Peaches, 82 South or Babouche.

Happy Eating!

Marshana

Brunch was really nothing special.  My cheesy grits were not cheesy at all.  The salmon in my croquettes tasted canned, the veggies from frozen.  The most charming thing about this particular experience (unfortunately, no music) was how small the kitchen is - but then, they lost our ticket and we had to wait for our meal while other diners who arrived well after us were served .   Still, that was somehow endearing - not the croquettes or the grits, those were not endearing.

This past Sunday I had a chance for some civilization revitalization in Brooklyn. I went to visit a friend and we had Brunch at Solomon's porch. An adorable neighborhood spot with a great vibe and great food. Only drawback...one waitress which can be a hassle when it gets busy.

We both had the brunch wrap and mimosas. Utterly delicious. Definitely a spot to hit again.

Went here this morning with a small group.  It was wonderful.  Nice atmosphere, good music playing, and some of the best coffee I have had in NYC.
I enjoyed the Solomons Crochets, these were seasoned fish cakes with 2 eggs and cheesy grits.  Delish.  I tried the home fries from one of the ladies with me and the rosemary adds a different yet nice touch.   Their omelet look and was told was great.
So if you are looking for a nice place for Saturday or Sunday brunch, I recommend this nice quaint eclectic place.  Not hard to get to just take the #B26 bus all the way there or look on www.hopstop.com to get there on transit from where you are. ( This part of Bed-Sty is nice, full of brown-stones and a quiet neighborhood.)

Being a long time resident of Bed-Stuy I decided to check out Solomon's Porch one evening for take out. When I got home and opened the food which took nearly 45 minutes to make I was utterly disappointed. The calamari I ordered was fried so hard that it was barely edible. The fried chicken was also fried hard and it was extremely dry, the collard greens were equivalent to eating dry discolored leaves. I was so disappointed that I contacted the restaurant to voice my issues. I was told to bring the food back for a full refund ($20) however I opted for a complimentary brunch as a way to give the restaurant a 2nd chance of impressing me. I went back 2 days later as agreed upon and much to my surprise no one at the restaurant knew of my issue or arrangement with one of the managers, although I provided my name, and the date I would return. The manager present at the time called the other to check my story. I was then told that my previous bill only totaled $9  (although I was previously offered a full refund of $20). I was amazed at how the information was communicated between staff. Everything seemed perfectly fine when speaking to the first manager on the phone. In addition, the manager on site spoke so low that he was almost inaudible (I think he didn't want other customers to know about my food and service complaint). The service I received was unprofessional and I refuse to ever step foot in that establishment. I informed the manager that I was not pleased with their food, service, professionalism and that I would take my business elsewhere. Lastly, I would not recommend Solomon's Porch to anyone who inquires about a good place to eat in the neighborhood. Good luck to all of you who decide to venture inside. On a positive note, there is a nice decor and good music.

I love Solomons!  I enjoy coming here to eat or take-out! It's the destination of choice for me when I have friends come over to my section of BK!  They have a Happy Hour now- so I come home and know where I could get a good drink and lounge!

Brunch! Yummy!
Salmon Croquet was superb! The strawberry pancakes were so fluffy and not messy. They actually have sausage patties not just links. The omelets are great! It was a great surprise to find a local neighborhood cafe that served great breakfast for me and the kids on the weekends. And the crowd was very diverse and very brunch-like: coffee, lattes, Sunday times, church goers, couples, etc. really cool! This place beats me getting up and trying to make all this stuff!

I'm just glad I have this choice in my neighborhood.  People need to know that there are healthier, friendlier, quality alternatives right where they lived.  AND SP does not cost much- not really much more than other neighborhood fare.

OK! what would you rather have- the local choice of 4 chicken wings/ FF, or greasy meatless ribs/ bland mac n' cheese, or  Solomon's Porch Whiting fillet seasoned with a medley of fresh Herbs and Spices served with French Fried potatoes and a crispy Okra Salad or some fresh Salmon pan-seared, served with choice of Black Olive-Tomato Galette, sauteed Sherry Portabella atop a mound of Spinach, Rice Pilaf or Organic Brown Rice.  HMMM? YOU DECIDE!

Great brunch in a spot with a nice vibe.  Good music playing at the right level in the background and the staff was attentive and friendly.  I went with an omelet which was good with very tasty breakfast potatoes.  Girlfriend had the french toast which was excellent.  The mascarpone filling in the thick pullman bread was amazing - so sweet that you didnt even need syrup.

Excellent spot, we will be back for sure.

I really love the eclectic menu at this restaurant!  I came here with a friend for lunch.  She had a Moroccan vegetable soup that looked SO good, and I had a barbeque chicken wrap. I've seen many of the live performances advertized in the Village Voice.   I need to get my ass back there for brunch or dinner with live music!

The appetizers are fantastic (the beancakes are SERIOUS!), the brunch and the wraps are very fine, Haitian beer is always tasty, the live jazz is frequent and quality even when a bit 'smooth'. Watched the primaries here, too... Very friendly folks. A neighborhood fixture.

Enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for my delicious takeout here.  Unfortunately, it wasn't during a night anyone was playing, but the manager had an iTunes playlist rotating on her computer.  The staff was very friendly and engaging.  I just happened to be the only patron at that hour, so we casually chatted while my food was being prepared.  It's just nice to have a restaurant/venue like this in the neighborhood.  I would definitely go again to enjoy both dinner and a live performance.

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. I like it because it's local and outside of the mold of your typical Bed-Stuy "eatery" however it's a tad expensive. I always order the same thing too, I don't know if that says more about me and SP.

I strongly recommend take out because if you dine in, it will take FOREVER to get your food. Even though it is rather tasty.
