Catherine is the reason why 5 stars were invented!!  For the first time in a while, I love my hair!

For many years I had the standard-issue California-girl haircut... long hair with long layers, and if I was feeling adventurous, some low-lights.  The problem with my hair is that it is so long and so thick, that if I don't cut it every 4 - 6 weeks, it will flatten, which gives me a sort of shaggy-dog like appearance.

I made an appointment with Catherine on a suggestion from my boyfriend and it's the best thing I ever did!  When I went to see her last weekend, all I knew was that I was insanely bored with my haircut, but had no idea what I wanted.  I gave Catherine very vague generalisms, "something shorter, with more body".  She walked me through some cuts she thought would be right for my hair type, we settled on a style which would keep my hair long, and away she went!!   While cutting my hair, Catherine was super focused and very friendly!!

Now, my hair is Gorgeous!!   It's still very long, which is what I really wanted, with short layers and sweeping bangs!  I love it!!  It has so much body!!

If you are a Westside girl on a budget, who has a need for a super-chic "make me a supermodel" designer hair stylist - Catherine at Sol Salon is for you.  Catherine, I love you!  You work magic!!!

Even after reading all the great reviews about this salon on Yelp, my experience today far exceeded what I had expected. I spent almost 2.5 hrs there this morning and I didn't realize it until I got back to my car! I have a totally new look, and now know a few products I can use that won't clog up my hair and keep it looking good in just a few minutes.

When I first get there I pull into the back to look for the lot, yea free parking!!! I had a 9am appt though so plenty of spots! Wheee! I'm there a few minutes earlier, the receptionist greets me, then I wait for April who actually hadn't shown up yet. Just a few minutes. Then there she is, onto the chopping off of my hair.

Throughout the entire appt, April was just nice, friendly, explained things when needed or when I asked questions, and very patient and willing to just discuss what exactly what I wanted and what she thought as the pro. Conversation just flowed really easily, haha sometimes I just was watching her cut my hair so I would zone out. But there weren't any of those awkward moments of silence a lot and it wasn't all about the weather.

We actually spent a good 15-20 minutes just discussing how I should get my hair cut. Then it all began. In which case I should mention that I was donating my hair to locks of love, which they aren't on the list of salons that do it for free, but they participate. So she put my hair into 4 ponytails and started cutting away. Then a shampoo, and she shaped my hair into what it is now. Cutting and texturing, all the while making sure that it would be a low maintenance cut that I could just hop out of bed and comb my hair and be done.

When it was all done, April began styling my hair a bit and used some products. It was a nice informative session for me since I know nothing about hair products. She recommended products that I could use for lift and volume, showed me how to use them, but at no time did I feel like she was pushing products on me. I don't even know if the salon sells those products actually, prolly, but she never said hey you can buy them right here! So it felt more like just informing and not buy these here!

Definitely coming back to this salon! I had such a good time and April was just perfect! The salon itself just felt pretty chill. I've never had so much time spent on me for just a wash, cut, dry and short styling!

I'm really trying hard not to give 5 stars out, but I recently had April cut my hair, and she deserves every shining one of them.

In all my years, I've never found a hair stylist with a better attitude and communication skills.  Finally, none of this, "I'm too cool for you" demeanor.  April is a delight!  She's talkative if you like, and let me just be when I felt like just chilling out and watching.

I presented her with several magazine photos and we talked about cuts, hair texture, my face shape and my tricky hair issues (I have a cowlick at the worst spot, wacked out frizz in the back, fine texture, etc.).

I'm certainly a challenge when it comes to finding a style that suits me, and April figured it all out!  I have full confidence in her talent, and it was a real pleasure to be able to sit back and relax in her chair and let her do her fine work.   She made certain that I liked the cut, and let me know in no uncertain terms that if I was displeased with anything to just head back over to her.  It's obvious that she enjoys what she does and does it well.

GREAT neighborhood salon.

Even greater is hair stylist CATHERINE.  I've been with Catherine since she was at Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills.  She has never let me down.  She listens, truly understands hair, is up on trends (because fashion and beauty do mix!), and is not shy to inject her professional opinion....because her ultimate goal is doing what's best for her client.  While growing out my hair, she's been known to talk me out of a haircut because "it's not ratty enough."  Again, she puts the client's needs first.

Just as good as her haircuts is her skill with hair color.  She is always up on the newest, least invasive color treatments and technology.  A former graphic artist, her eye for color is AMAZING.

My low-maintenence husband and all of his friends commute across town to get hair cut by Catherine.  We don't know what it is, but her cuts make it possible for the guys to stay 'low maintenence.'  She claims it's her 'undercuts' ... whatever that is, it's certainly working.

If you want a stylist who just "gets it," then Catherine is the stylist for you.

BTW...she is GREAT with blowouts!!   Again, she just gets it.

Catherine doesn't need another 5 star review, but here's one anyway.  Both times she's done my hair I've made the appointment before big holidays, most recently, the day before Thanksgiving.  On this most recent trip, she spent her usual long amount of time with me, and we tried a new look.  When I got home I realized that I wasn't 100% thrilled with the back of my hair--it was a good haircut, don't get me wrong, I'm just very particular.  I called the salon right away to see if I could make an appointment to have the back trimmed a little shorter.  Not only did she make a time to see me again the same day when she was fully booked, but she stayed late so that I wouldn't have to wait until after the holiday to have my hair fixed (this was the night before Thanksgiving, remember!)  She didn't even charge me for the trim--she definitely stands behind her work.  If you're particular about your hair and nervous about getting your hair cut with a new person, see Catherine.  She knows how to give you what you're looking for, and she happily stands behind her cuts.

I needed a hair cut and highlights quick for a special event. I made an appt on Thursday for Saturday afternoon after reading the positive feedback here.

I read good things about Cynthia, but she was unavailable. So, I got April.

I'm so glad I did! She was super sweet! She was patient with all of my questions and concerns and TOTALLY put me at ease. She listen to exactly what I wanted and explained every step of what she did and why she was doing it.

She gave me a GREAT cut and my highlights look lovely. Our conversation was fun, informative, interesting, funny and just kept flowing. I feel like I've made a great new friend. I paid a lot less than I normally do and felt more comfortable. I paid $125 for a cut and highlights. The shop is cute with a rustic decor.

I will definitely be back again to APRIL!

I'm so glad I found April at Sol Salon! I was nervous going to a new place, but as soon as I met her I felt fine. She's wonderful.

She gave me a great cut and natural looking highlights, and explained everything as she was doing it. It's been about a week and I'm loving my hair for the first time in a long time. I will definitely be back!

New to the area, I needed to find a new stylist and salon.  I had read all the good reviews for Sol Salon and decided it was the place to try first.  I had read about the free parking next to the salon, but I missed it at first and parked down the street, so I cannot comment on that.

My stylist was April.  I had read glowing reviews for her, and she even set up my appointment when I called.  She was great and totally worth all the praise.  She gave me a really thorough consultation, answered all my questions and explained everything so I could remember what to do when styling later.  I think that is really important in a stylist, and April was very friendly.   She offered great tips, was easy to talk to and listened to what I had to say.

I really liked my haircut, and I think it was a good match for the picture I brought.  I didn't get anything too outrageous though and no coloring services.  The salon is well-kept, and everyone was kind and helpful.  Overall, I think the experience was great, and I will definitely be back again.

Extensions look great! Very comfortable, April explained everything on how to take care of them. I felt extremely comfortable while she was putting them in, since she kept the conversation interesting and kept me entertained.

The process didn't take as long as I expected and even cost less, great experience.

Definitely a permanent customer!

Boys and girls, I'm here to discuss a very important topic with you all today.  And that is the issue of Hapa Hair.

If you've got one parent who is Asian/Pacific Islander and one who is Caucasian (or some similar combination), chances are you have Hapa Hair.  Some people are lucky and end up with shiny straight locks, but the majority of us have some permutation of wavy, which isn't really wavy so much as it is curly in some places and straight in others, alternately fuzzy/thick and silky/fine, rife with unpredictable cowlicks, and, even though your hair color is technically "medium brown", it still goes kind of reddish-blonde in the summertime.  It's its own special flower, Hapa Hair, and most stylists don't really get it and sluff it off as white hair, and then get all befuddled when their tried-and-true methods go all haywire on our poor misunderstood half-breed heads.

I came into Sol on a rogue mission because my usual stylist has been out of the country for a while now and my appearance was distressingly unkempt, and after reading all of the favorable reviews about how these ladies respect wavy hair, I figured it was the best place for me to cheat on my regular stylist as safely as possible :)  I made an appointment with Catherine, and was pleased when I met her; she, too, has wavy Asian hair with crayon-colored highlights.  During all of that yapping that takes place over the shampoo, though, she divulged that her husband is Caucasian, so her kids have hair kind of like mine, to varying degrees of wonkiness.  Upon hearing this, I experienced this odd calm thought of "Ah... she will GET me."

And lo, she did.  Truth, the cut is kinda "The Rachel", but I look far less ratty than I did 24 hours ago, and for that, I am grateful, and Catherine listened to me when I asked her to make my bangs a little more hacked-up so I wouldn't look too square, and besides, I know my Hapa Hair... in a few days it will stop being all flippy and go back to its kinky self.  Besides, I was a new client, and any stylist worth their salt will proceed with caution and err on the conservative side, unless ordered otherwise.

I will also note for the record that I was charged $45 for my first visit and offered free bang trims.  They also use this leave-in conditioner by Eufora that smells like tea roses, but moreso of the green planty smell family, instead of malodorous perfumey funk.

Dude, this place is solid.  Bless you, Catherine, on behalf of all us mutts everywhere.

I had to get a haircut for a last minute shindig and decided to stop into Sol Salon and give it a shot since I drive by there frequently on my way to the office. I was greeted by Catherine who was very personable and friendly and full of smiles. I've always considered my head of hair to be one that you had to really familiarize yourself with over time before you could actually do it any justice. But right off the bat Catherine knew exactly how to handle it. As a matter of fact, she knew more about my hair than I did! She made some suggestions and persuaded me to try something a little different... something a little less conservative... and boy am I happy I did! I went to that shindig sporting my new do and received a ton of compliments! I was so pleased that I recommended Catherine to my girlfriend Lauren, who recently went in to see her. All I have to say is WOW! My girlfriend's hair is sooooo gorgeous! She is super happy which in turn means that I get to be super happy (if you know what I mean). But I'll let her write her own review. Bottom line is that if you want a great haircut by someone who knows their hair and is also very pleasant and insightful, then go see Catherine at Sol Salon... You'll be super happy you did!

Me and my neighbor went to try Sol Salon for the first time this weekend after reading all the great reviews on here, and were very pleased! We both got our haircuts with Silvia and loved the way are hair looked and felt (so soft!), no fixing required before our night out! We were the last people in the salon so we got to chat with the other ladies of Sol as well, and they all seem very friendly here, I would definately recommend it!

I got ripped off here, twice!!

Let me explain...

So after reading all the amazing reviews I decided to schedule a "first time" appointment with Cathy about 2 months ago (end of June).  I have medium length curly/wavy hair that I am trying to grow out.  When I went in all's I had done was a shampoo, cut, and your typical blowdry.  I was charged $55.

Now...if you read all the other reviews, especially the most recent but Nancy H. you'll notice that all "first time visits" are $45, so...why was I charged 10% more then usual?
I guess at the time I didn't really think too much about it because my hair looked good, not great, and I was happy chatting away with Cathy - whom I thought at the time was awesome.

Second appointment...

I go in just the other day for the same thing, typical shampoo, cut, and blowdry with Cathy.
I am then charged $65 on my second visit - when all the other reviewers say it's only $50, that's a whopping 20% more then everyone else!
So I called Sol Salon to just double check what the price should be, and I asked specifically if any of the stylists charged more or extra for anything and the girl said no, it's always $45 the first time, and always $50 after that...

So, what can I say?  I got duped by Cathy at Sol Salon...

I suggest if you are still gonna try this place out, make sure you get the right price because it is definitely not worth $65!!

Oh, and if anyone who works at Sol Salon is reading this please don't do this to any of your customers because it's really shitty business practice and eventually karma is just gonna come back and bite you in the ass.

I honnestly was very hopeful for my first Sol Salon experience because I had heard rave reviews from a trusted co-worker.  She has been seeing Cynthia for about a year now, and really liked her.

I called to make an appointment and Cynthia was on maternity leave, so I was scheduled with Silvia instead.

She was on time, and asked me the standard questions about what I wanted.  I feel like she didn't understand because my bangs were left too long, and the layers are very choppy.  There was no conversation, which is fine because sometimes its annoying to small talk, but in the end I feel like I was just another head of hair.

Price was good, $45 for new customers.

I feel like if I ever go back, I would make a point to see Cynthia.  Otherwise probably not.

Made a last minute appointment for a Friday evening. They got me in with the wonderful Cynthia and even when I was 15 minutes late, I received absolutely no attitude.

I was planning to take a red-eye across the country to arrive just in time for my sister's wedding and didn't want 'wedding hair', just pretty hair.

She did a fantastic blow-out with a little flippy thing that I wasn't sure about at first and intentionally left it a little unfinished so that it wouldn't gunk up from plane sleeping.

She was totally right- it looked absolutely perfect- survived not only the plane but still looked good after standing around in unbearable South Carolina humidity and even rain.

Constant compliments all weekend, lasted about 3 days with no maintenance from me, and she gave me a surprise discount.

Best salon experience in forever.

I finally made an appointment at Sol after reading all the glowing Yelps.

Jan, the owner, was my stylist. I sat in her chair and she took one look at my hair and asked, "why don't you like your curly hair?"

I thought she must've been talking to someone else. My entire life I've had thick, dark, straight hair with maybe a little wave in it once in a while. She assured me that, no, my hair type is actually CURLY and she said, if I wanted to, she could bring that out.

Living your whole life thinking you have a certain hair texture, only to find out at 26 that you've been living a heat-activated, flatironed lie is disconcerting, to say the least.

In 45 minutes Jan snipped and swept and scrunched and dried. I flipped over to see a crazy-coiffed 80s sitcom star in the mirror. I was really taken aback and I even told my boyfriend that I wasn't crazy about it.

It's been a couple of days and the reality has sunk in. I AM A CURLY-HAIRED GIRL! My hair is SO. EASY. to take care of. Jan suggested just one product and it wasn't a heavy sell at all - but it's magic in a bottle. It bounces and shines and it is so happy to finally be free to be the curly twirly hair it's always wanted to be. I cannot believe that 26 years of salon visits and no one saw the natural potential in my hair that Jan saw.

Go here. Make an appointment. And give it a day or two, you know, if your entire hair belief system is suddenly pulled out from under you. When your hair is free to do what it naturally wants to do, everything else in life seems a little bit more effortless.

I am a big weenie about getting my hair cut and tend to put it off a lot. No longer. Since my pal turned me on to this place, I'm no longer reticent.

My friend suggested Cynthia, and that's who I saw for my first appointment here. She's awesome, bubbly and sweet, and knows hair. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and she took her time with me. I looked GREAT walking out the door.

Alas, Cynthia went out on maternity leave immediately after my appointment and so the next time I went in I saw Silvia. She's pretty awesome too. Laconic and non-chatty but that suited my mood just fine. I imagine she'd step it up a little more if the client were more ebullient. I told her I was happy with what Cynthia had done, that I just wanted to go about four inches shorter, and that is precisely what she gave me. I went out to dinner with my boyfriend immediately afterward and he had to tell me to quit being so insufferable with the constant mirror-gazing. But i looked GREAT, i tell you!!

Went here for the first time today and had Sylvia cut and color my hair. I'm very happy with the outcome. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the decor is pretty outdated and could use a remodel...in fact I'd walked by a few times before and been turned away because it doesn't appear to be the type of place that would offer trendy or modern styles. I was wrong- don't let the decor fool you too!

I really do wish I could give a better review but I was NOT happy with my experience here.

Sure its real cute and trendy and everyone is really nice but...

I got there 15 minutes early and my stylist (Pepper) didn't get to me until 45 minutes AFTER my set appointment.  Then she didn't match my color very well and didn't really ask me what I wanted.  It was all rush, rush rush and for $120 (she did give me a $20 discount for my wait) I looked almost exactly the same but with bangs.

If you want to go to have a good time - done!  Sol is your place.  But if you want a good haircut - um...no.

I moved down here from Reno last year and had been dreading getting my haircut and finding a new stylist.  Now I know why.

I love Adriana! She is always the one who cuts my hair and my silly self usually picks styles that are mainly good for straight hair, so she tries to work my wavy texture into it. She usually does it well.

Back in spring i had been straightening my hair a lot and it was so fried. Adriana took off quite a bit, and at the time I was pretty upset ( I love long hair), but now I've stopped heat styling and my hair is growing as fast as it used to when I was 7, before the discovery of hair stuff.

Adriana also did my highlights, and although now they're growing out (thanks to the major trim in June), They still look great. I dyed my hair blue-black (Herbal Essences) in January, and to make my highlights look right Adriana had to lift color from my hair. I naturally have red-brown hair, in the sun it looks red, so when She did my highlights she used ash blonde and the result was a beautiful caramel color that blended really nicely with my hair. The placement of my color was also really well done.

The selection of hair products is extensive, and if you need to find something you can probably get it there. They even carry men's products, which is always a plus.

I just recently moved to Los Angeles from Philadelphia, PA, and needed to find a hair stylist.  My sister refereed me to Adriana Menera, an independent stylist at Sol Salon in Culver City.

From our first meeting I immediately knew I was in good hands.  Adriana is an incredibly warm person, who easily puts her patrons at ease.  She is also an amazingly gifted hair stylist.  She has a knack for helping you realize the perfect cut and color for your features and coloring, respectively.  I have NEVER been dissatisfied with Adriana's work.

The rates for a hair cut and for hair coloring are also very reasonable.  Adriana is a hair stylist of affordability and expertise.  Need I say more?

Adriana Menera works as an independent stylist at Sol Salon.  To reach her directly, call 310-993-7055 for an appointment.

I went back in May and I think Cynthia was convinced that I didn't like my hair. I actually loved my hair, but it seemed so different that I was floored!

Almost three months later, I am still loving this hair! That is my major determining factor, because I rarely have the time (or $$) to get a nice haircut.

The price is great for the quality of the cut and the pleasant ambience. The salon is small and relaxed, and there was no upsell pressure.

They were able to take me on short notice, something I love! I'll be going back there again if I can't make it to Oxen Rose for my hair. (they're in SF)

Great prices and great hair cuts!

I went for the first time today and had Silvia. She wasn't very talkative, but that's fine, I don't really go for long lengthy chats. But she helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my hair and I came out looking great! Silvia knows hair, and what will look good on a person.

I didn't like how she styled it initially, but she changed it right there on the spot for me, which was awesome. Normally when I leave a salon I go home, take a shower and then style my hair to make it look good. But I left the salon with a hair cut and styling that was perfect!

The Salon itself was also very nice, clean and cute, with good music. No one pushed upsells on me either. I'll definitely be going back!!

I had a good base haircut. It was just a bit overgrown. All I really needed was about an inch trimmed off all around with a few minor adjustments. I am coming off of a break up from a stylist whom I adore because of the lack of a receptionist at the salon. I turned to yelp to help me find a new BFF for my hair.

Anyway. . . I was ten minutes early, she was fifteen minutes late. It was 10 minutes past my appointment time before anyone acknowledged my presence to ask who I was waiting for. After the first 30 minutes or so of the cut she turned me away from the mirror. The alarms began in my head. She kept saying nasty things in a cute way about my hair. Okay. . . it's a bit wavy and there is a deceptive ammount of it. It has taken a few stylist off guard as it began to air dry, but nobody has ever had this much of an issue with it. She said that I have cow licks. You'd think I would have noticed that or a previous stylist would have mentioned it at some point. Sure. . I get to deal with my hair everday, but this is what she does for a living!

I walked out with uneven bangs sticking out at odd angles and brief instructions about fixing them myself.

If I wanted to look like a Barbie doll that a five year old just made "pretty" with a pair of safety scissors I would have paid the five dollars to the girl down the street and spent the $40 I saved on enough liquor to make me forget about my hideous haircut.

Long story short: my search continues.

Star-worthy: Solid cut (from April, who answered my 50 million questions about products and flat-ironing). Not too expensive, considering it was my first time ($45). Fun ambience and, as others have noted, nextdoor to the Conservatory Cafe. Free parking around back.

Not so star-worthy: My hair actually looked better the day after I'd gotten it cut; somehow, the blow-out made it look really thin and feel pretty unhealthy.

This place doesn't really need another five-star review, but why not.

I've always had an irrational fear of hair salons. Not like a real fear, but it was always a very intimidating experience for me. I don't ever know what I want, and I always put myself at the mercy of whoever is snipping at my head.

I went to Sol Salon today because of the reviews on Yelp, and I found every part of the experience to be relaxed and enjoyable. Cynthia called my name early, we talked for a good couple of minutes about how I would like my hair done, and she was honest and helpful with her ideas and feedback.

At every part of the process Cynthia explained what she was going to do and why, as opposed to everywhere else I've been where they just snip away while I sit there oblivious. By the end I was left with a head of hair that I felt partly responsible for myself just by having been included so much in the process.

We also had nice conversation, another first for me at a salon. In the end it turned out to be $35 ($40 minus a first-time customer discount), the best deal I've seen in LA so far outside of the Vidal Sassoon Academy. I'm definitely planning on going back.

I'm so excited to have found Cynthia and Sol Salon. The whole salon and all the stylists I saw there had a great vibe.Since moving to the westside, I've been accumulating my go-to service folks slowly but surely, and a hairstylist is obviously an integral part of this collection. I can now breath a bit easier, because I have Cynthia! She was super down to earth and made effortless conversation with me as she weaved and washed and cut. I have very blond, highlighted hair, and she did a great job on the color, weaving in two shades of blond. She cleaned up my layers, and now if I want to, I can actually wear my hair au natural with a bit of product and enjoy my texture and waves. She also did a fantastic job blow drying and styling it, so much so that my non-metro boyfriend kept commenting on how soft my hair was. I am campaigning to have said boyfriend go to Cynthia instead of Fantastic Sams, but that's another matter.

Strangely, this is the first time I've had a woman do my hair, and the results were incredible. Because she had a baby in the fall, Cynthia only works three days a week- I think Wed, Fri and Saturday, so call ahead. I can't wait to go back, even for a styling. Oh, and the best part: cut, partial highlights, blow-dry and styling for $125. I think I got a discount for being a first-time customer, but even so, I was expecting it to be much more expensive.

Pros = 1. Sylvia cut my hair exactly how I wanted; it helped that I brought in two photos of the style, and she nailed it perfectly. 2.  I could tell that she knows how to cut hair because she didn't spend an exorbitant amount of time checking whether she cut my hair evenly (which was even and smashing). 3. Great price.

Cons = 1. Had an appointment on Saturday morning and the place was a bit too busy. Sylvia was behind by 15 minutes. 2. Hair was not cleaned off the floor as quickly as other places. 3. Sylvia answered her cell phone in the middle. To her credit, it could have been a client, but it was something that I have never experienced before.

The cons have nothing to do with the wonderful haircut I received that day, but more with overall service. Hence, the slightly less than perfect score. I would definitely go back again, but perhaps on a weekday.

5 stars for Cynthia!!

I've gone twice now, and have had two great hair cuts.  I'm a guy with crappy/ thin/ Barney Miler Hair.

And she some how makes it look, stylish and wavy, and a great deal thicker.

Its priced right. And I always have a good time.  Both times she has been ready to cut my wispy,  shitaceous hair with no wait time.

She is good and chewing your ear off in a comfortable organic way, and is an authentically seet talent with the scissors.

But she's about to have a baby so hurry up and get a haircut.

I'll have to make sure and get back in there one more time before august!!

Yaaay for Sol!

I got Cynthia, the co owner of the salon. She did an awesome job and had a good sense of detail. After hearing about this place on yep, I called in and was trying to see if a stylist could see me for a consultation. Sure enough she invited me to drop by, looked at my hair and took me in the direction I wanted to go.

Came back a few days later and loved my hair. She was talkative and very sweet.

Only drawback I wish I knew about was the parking. Didn't know you could park in the back of the salon free so I parked down the street for 8 bucks. Oh well, now I know. Overall, great place, friendly people, awesome location!

I have high expectations for my hair.

I'm not going to nitpick and gripe about exact lengths or color hues - I want a stylist I can trust to do a great job and know how to make my hair look awesome.  Thats what Cynthia did.

I told her in general what I would like to do and she made sure to deliver.  I wanted blonde highlights - she made sure to add a mixture of honey and blonde tones to make my hair look natural and dimensional.  I told her I wanted to clean up split ends and revive my layers.  She told me to cut off a full inch to make split ends stay away longer and gave my hair bounce and movement that I haven't had in a long time.

As a side note - I usually am bad at small chat with my hair stylists.  I get tired of sitting and get bored of the regular topics like what new movies I've seen.  Cynthia is the first stylist I've had in a while where conversation flowed and I truly enjoyed the experience.  I got a cut and partial highlights for $115, which is normally $125 but she gave me $10 off for being a first time customer.

After living in LA for 4 years and not being wowed or happy with any stylists I've tried, I have finally discovered a salon and stylist that I am thrilled with and will continue to see.  Check it out, its an friendly, unpretentious salon that delivers the best quality services.

My experience here was great.  The staff was very accommodating when it comes to booking an appointment and my haircut looks GREAT!

Not only did Catherine do a great job with the cut and style, she was also really friendly and easy to talk to.   She listened to my requests: hair length, no bangs, etc.. and consulted with me before she went ahead and made the cut.  Her attention to detail makes me a happy client.

I definitely recommend the salon and will come back for my next cut.

YES - there is free parking in the back!!!

I got my hair colored by Catherine.

She is a complete sweetheart.  I think the service at Sol Salon is terrific!  Everyone is extremely nice.  I would say that the pricing is average, not excessive.  My hair is rather out of control because it is thick and damaged from bleaching.  I basically called an SOS and went here to get my hair fixed.  I called the morning of, and was able to schedule an appt instantly...YAY!

My hair was highlighted and then colored for what I thought was a great turnout.  It took 4 hours almost.  I was there until closing since Catherine and I didn't anticipate for my hair to take that long when I first made my appointment.  All of this totaled to $115 without tip.

I would recommend this place to my friends.  Check it out...definitely worth a try!   : )

I made an appointment based upon all the positive reviews here and lemme tell you - it was awesome!  I wanted red streaks put in my hair and arrived with my Punky Color container and Adriana proceeded to blow my mind by telling me about this new procedure that would deliver stoplight red streaks without bleaching my hair.  And that it would take half as long and not cause as much damage as bleach.  I was sold.

The streaks came out amazing and she only charged me $45 (which was what she quoted on the phone)!  Plus she trimmed my hair and blew it straight and didn't charge me for it!  I tipped her well and will absolutely be back.  Impeccable service and a laid-back atmosphere = quite possibly the best hair experience I've ever had.

I went to Sol Salon today based on the reviews from YELP.  I had long layered hair which I had been sporting for at least 3 years and was in need of a change.  I decided to go with a graduated bob that I found in a magazine.  I showed Cynthia the picture and we discussed what my hair could and would do with that cut.  She was extremely professional and incredibly sweet!  She then cut it to perfection and showed me how to complete the style at home!  Actually it was better than the picture that I brought!    Needless to say I will be back in 6-8 weeks to maintain my new short do!

Very reasonably priced for a fantastic cut!  $45 for the first time and then $50 for my next visit!  I even got free street parking in the middle of the day!  YAY!

A great find! I'm one of those in between people who doesn't want to go to Super Cuts but doesn't want to spend $100 on a haircut. I don't color my hair and I think my hairstyle is pretty simple.

My sweeping bangs had become non-existent so it was time for a haircut. I called at 11am on a Saturday and they were able to get me in at 1:45. After seeing all the rave reviews of Catherine, I really wanted to get her but at this point, I'd take anyone. I met with Sylvia and she was great too. Her haircut was $50 which I think is very reasonable. Honestly, she didn't do quite what I asked but I was so overgrown that I didn't care. I'd also like to try Catherine but we'll see. They didn't try to push products on me so I was very happy not to feel pressured.

I haven't had to color my hair for 20 years! Well, guess what. Age is finally catching up to me. So, I decided to get my hair colored by Catherine. I reminded her, please don't make me look like Dracula and all I want is to match my hair color, just get rid of these grays!!!
well, she did, not only does it look natural, but my hair feels healthy and the style looks great. Even though I don't know how much it cost to get color, It was affordable and still had enough to get a cup of coffee next door.

I'm absolutely in love! I got a cut and color by Catherine, who totally blew me away. Not only did she actually listen to what I wanted, but she exceeded my expectations. My hair was SO damaged and brassy; my ends were a JOKE. I was a lifeguard/swim instructor over the summer and the sun and chlorine really killed my hair. I never thought my hair could be so revitalized, but Catherine did it. I now have amazing color, and she did a beautiful job with my bangs (see profile picture). I'll definitely be going back there : )
I was also impressed by the price. For a STELLAR cut and color, i paid $95 minus tip (would have been $105, but first time customers get $10 off- another plus!). For an LA salon and the high quality, that's quite a steal.
Moral of the story: see CATHERINE!!!!! tell her vanessa from LMU sent you : )
