By far, my most favorite mexican restaurant in the city!  It's so good, so incredibly fast, and the service is always stellar.  I couldn't believe how quickly our gargantuan order came out when I went for my birthday and I brought a gaggle of friends.  My absolute favorite is the chile rellenos, and can honestly say I've never had it better anywhere else.  I first ordered it on a fluke, I was brought by a friend years ago (her boyfriend was from El Salvador & loved the place), and didn't know what I wanted so she surprised me by ordering it for me.  Now I get it at every other mexican restaurant I'm dragged to and am always dissapointed.

The complimentary salsas are the best, never too salty as I find elsewhere.  The chips are hot & crunchy, never soggy.  The guac is standard but still great.  My boyfriend loves the pork carnitas, you're not going to find more succulent pork anywhere in the metro.  The margaritas- phew!  Perfect mix, not too liquor-y but get the job done, my friends!  My sister who's vegetarian loves this place too because they really do offer a great veggie selection & the servers know about it.  Overall, fantastic place, and fun to watch the hustle & bustle, most especially when the food runners come out with like 5 giant plates on one arm!

Now with my busy schedule I often order it to-go, and no matter what I order it's always ready in 15 minutes, piping hot & just as fresh at home as in the restaurant.  I love this place & bring all of my out-of-towners here for a quick, cheap & hearty bite to eat.

Hers: this place closed for about 6 months over the winter and is now called Sabor y Sol. We used to come here at least once, if not twice, a week. It was awesome and we were addicted for years. Since reopening the have a new interior, new staff, similar menu and unfortunately it's gone downhill in my opinion. We've been three times since they reopened- the first time my food was undercooked, the second it was ok and the third they lost our order and took forever. The food just hasn't been as good. Sad to say our favorite restaurant in the city is no more.
    His: ditto.

The food is not Mexican, its Tex-Mex, but not Mexican by any stretch of the imagination.  Their chips and salsa were great, but the Chili Relleno was soggy and quite bland, my friends Burtito was a joke and the table was way too small for a group with two people over 6'2''.

I guess this place is good by Tex-Mex standards, but really it did not knock my socks off and it almost felt like there was a lack of flavor.  Mexican food for me is something of a passion with dynamic flavors and seasoning and this did not have any of it.

I went to Sol Azteca for the first time tonight.  Loved it!  First of all, they have a great vegetarian selection, all off to one side in its own little column.  They even swap out the rice for veggies (most rice in mexican restaurants is made with chicken stock) which I found helpful.  Most restaurants don't indicate this in their menus.  My meal included a bean burrito, cheese enchilada and a ginormous pile of broccoli and cheese.  The servings are gigantic, so plan on making another 2-3 meals out of your leftovers!

Another plus is the bartenders heavy hand--I ordered a strawberry daiquiri which was WAY more rum than anything else.  Nice.  :)

And just to add to the fantasticness,  it is super cheap.  My meal, two drinks and a shared dessert was only $15.  I can't wait to make it for happy hour!

My favorite Mexican dig in Kansas City. I was a regular from 2002-2006 but havent been there much since moving out of state. The food is excellent. The staff are all fantastic. I have never taken anyone to Sol Azteca who didnt immediately love it!

I always get their giant chicken burrito... I have ordered other things but I love having half of it left over for the next day.

The only reason I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars is because I am not there as often and dont know if the quality has changed.

I loved my meal here! We went here specifically because of the reviews on yelp and I wanted one last good mexican meal before heading back to the northeast. I thought the salsa was super yummy. Also ordered the guac and that was fresh and tasty but nothing special.
For my entree, I had the chili relleno, a bean burrito and rice. It was so good that I finished my entire plate which is something I rarely do. The sauce on the chili relleno was very flavorfull. I definitely want to come back next time I visit the KC area. Thanks for the tip, yelpers!

Not too bad at all. Has it's identity crisis with a few Tex/Mex items, but as a whole, the menu is mostly authentic Mexican.

On the weekends this place is hopping. Despite the place being slammed with people like an overcrowded Tokyo sub, i've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a place. As far as the environment, it is terribly packed. The lighting in the inside is also considerably darker than most restaurants.

I will say what it lacks in style points it makes up in the flavor of the food. Refried beans are delicious and the rice is much more moist than expected. Taco's are slammed with plenty of fresh cilantro, and limes are always available to squeeze right over on top.

Awesome place to go with a group of friends. Prices also seem to be pretty standard.

My favorite Mexican in KC.  Friendly service, huge beers for hella cheap, consitently good food and quick service.  I have used them to cater and it has always been hot, fresh, correct and on time.  My favorites are the chicken fajita quesadilla, chicken chimi and the relleno (super fried and cheesy).  Did I mention the cheap beers?  One drawback...no Dos Equis on tap.

Btw, Andrew D.  I think you are thinking of Sol Cantina in Martini Corner, no?

Yeah, soo good. Mmmm, and they have great ginormous mushrooms added to meals if you want them.  It's my current favorite Mexican restaurant in KC.  It's kinda quiet too, which is nice if you want to hold a conversation w/ a friend or don't want too many kids around.  They have great vegetarian options and the service is FAST and FRIENDLY.  Everyone should be so lucky as to have a great Mexican joint near them.

Good Mexican food. Great kids menu. Good chiles rellenos (my favorite, and my benchmark for Mexican)....BUT...in the three years we've been coming to Sol Azteca regularly, we have seen a dropoff in quality and service in the last 6-8 months.  Just not quite as tasty, a litle more rushed with service, beer not quite so cold as it used to be. This is much more noticeable if you go on a Friday/Saturday night. Despite that, still definitely worth a visit.
