I LOVE this place and the FOOD was GREAT! Here's why:

Food: 5 stars (if you ignore the mango sticky rice)
-asparagus & bamboo shoots: The asparagus and bamboo shoots were super fresh and oh sooo tasty! It almost felt like chinese food to me but with just a little Thai kick in it! I liked how they used thin asparagus so it's not hard and tough to eat. They also cut the bamboo shoots in BIG chucks so it's easier to eat. I like that!
-beef skirt with green beans: The beef was super tender! Soooo good! The sauce was lip smackingly delicious!
-pineapple fried rice: Not as good as I had expected because I thought the rice was a little soggy, but the shrimp in it was really fresh and tasty!
-mango sticky rice: KILLED THE MEAL! The mango was not that awesome, the sticky rice had no coconut milk on it (which is the way I like it), and it was just a little too salty with too much sesame flavor to it. It was overall, the WORST mango sticky rice I've ever had! But it's probably just because I have super high expectations for mango sticky rice.

Ambiance: LOVELY decor! It's so modern and cute! The bathrooms were soooo clean and nicely decorated! It has a very sophisticated/edgy feel to this place! LOVE it!

Service: Wonderful! Very welcoming and attentive!

Price: It's pricey for Thai food, but well worth the money for how good the food, service and ambiance was!

Overall: Just added this place to my TOP Thai restaurants to eat at in the East Bay!

The first time I went, an Iowa friend and I stumbled upon it while heading to another restaurant further down College Ave. It was a beautiful.
Each dish we had was great - though two dishes (the mustard green & coconut, shrimp, etc small plate (so many layers of flavor!); and the grilled steak salad) go to the outstanding category. The second time, The Sweet and I went for a date. The miang kum and nuer namtok were again superb. The other dishes were tasty, too. The Kirimaya cocktail was superb, and it reminded me how much I like bourbon. The service was attentive and friendly, and the visuals are peaceful.
My tip: Go on a weekday evening. The place is less crowded and quieter, and the dishes are arranged better. The weekend crowd was loud (though not bothersome) and the dishes were just slightly more messily arranged. Enjoy!

I loooove this place!--I have yet to have a meal I don't love here! Whether it's the crispy spring rolls, the deep fried whole fish or any of the prawn dishes.  To top it off, the mojitos or any cocktails are great too.

The only things that are a little annoying are: 1) how squished you can feel if it's crowded--it's easy to feel like someone next to you is in your conversation even though they didn't come with you for dinner ! lol!  2) sometimes the service can be less than pleasurable...sometimes they seem understaffed and other times the waiters just aren't trying to do anything but bring you the food and forget that you had water in the empty glass sitting on the table.

But then the food distracts you just enough to not get bothered during your meal, and then it's all good! ;o)

Soi Four. How many times have I peered into your windows and then turned my nose to go to Uzen for sushi next door.

Can you forgive me for taking so long to come by? I've been several times since that first lunch, haven't I?

I know you're not the most "authentic" but since you've let me sample your wares, I've never been disappointed. Your curries . . . your soups . . . man does not live by authentic alone!

Cool open space with clean lines. Nice friendly service. I almost suspect you're trying to turn our little daliance into something more. Just don't buy billboards in Times Square and post our correspondence online if you see me over at Uzen again.

Give it some time. It'll all work out, I promise. There's room for both of you in my life.

There was a culinary migration to the East Bay last year, and last night's visit to Rockridge made it very apparent.

Soi Fours rests on a charming part of College Ave, and with each visit here I am reminded that I don't come out to this part of the bay nearly enough.

Arriving to the onset of a veil of light rain, we stepped inside with no reservations, but found it easy to grab a seat and began to dive into the comforting deep menu.

With a distinct array of dishes for multiple tastes, we settled on the steamed Turnip cakes, Crispy sliced chicken & string beans wok-tossed with sweet kaffir, and the Light battered prawns wok tossed in spiced tamarind sauce with crisped shallots and garlic.

The turnip cakes were spectacular. For a person that demands protein in every dish, this light small plate charmed me for a slight minute that being a vegetarian could be worth it.

But I quickly snapped back into reality when the crispy chicken and battered prawns arrived. Both with a spicy glaze, they kicked your buds with a seasonal rotation from sweet to hot.

A side of brown rice rounded out the meal, and allowed us to enjoy the deeply flavored sauces and intricate nuances of each topping.

Soi 4's decor directs you to pay attention to it's food. As it should.

Our servers were attentive, patient, and topped off the meal with a genuine feeling of gratitude.

Soi Four is a hit.

I really wanted to give Soi 4 four stars, but given the service-to-price ratio, I can't.

Too bad, since:

- Food: Amazing.  Mushrooms in curry were out of this world - tender, flavorful, meaty.
- Decor: Minimal but alive.
- Location: Easy for a quick trip from SF and convenient to Rockridge.
- People: Your usual eclectic mix of folks in the Berkland area - one of the reasons I cherish stepping off the plane when I fly back to SF.

However, the service was unevenly slow, and for the menu prices, I'd expect a bit more.

I'd be happy to try Soi 4 again and see if the service evens out.  A solid choice for Thai in Rockridge nonetheless.

After dining here for a only a second time in three years, I have to say the prices are a bit high for a-ok food.  We ordered a few things from each section of the menu to share and the food was plenty. But I didn't really enjoy the meal, the mixture of flavors seemed to go well, but over done.  The blue lake beans were soggy, the skewered chicken was tender but lacked flavor. We ordered a wide noodle dish and it was fine, but nothing to write home about. The soup had a flavorful broth and probably my fave of the night.

The ambiance is great and I actually like the closeness of the tables and the conversations that carry throughout the restaurant.

It will probably be another few years before I return.

This place is one of my husbands favorite places to eat out (especially if we are on a work expense account).  It is hard to get him to go to upscale/fancy places so I am surprised he likes this place so much.  I am not going to complain anytime he wants to venture out to Soi Four!  I have never had a bad meal here.

My only complaint is that it can be a bit noisy when it is busy if you want to have good conversation while eating.

Driving through Rockridge after a visit to the dentist, I decided I deserved a nice (albeit soft) lunch. I found a parking space in front of a stylish, sleek joint and was delighted (having lived 2 years in Thailand) to discover it was Thai! Luckily the ambiance was pleasing and I always travel with a book, because after the waitress seated me and described the day's soup, I was left to my own devices. (Mind you, there were 2 waitstaff and only 4 small tables, so much as I'd love to return for dinner, I do worry how they handle actual diners!) The waiter, when eventually he did arrive, was happy to discuss the best options for the girl who can't chew, and though Thai lunch is traditionally noodles, which fit the bill, I decided to try the soup and the gai gra prow. I wanted spicy and it's rare that American restaurants give this dish (minced chicken fried with basil, garlic & fresh chilies) the bold flavor you find in Thailand. The cocktail list looked fabulous, looked being the operative word; as I began to order a drink, the waiter disappeared. The (Prohibition-dry) wait for food was equally long, but boy oh boy! The soup of the day (coconut with prawns) was so rich and expertly balanced (sweet, sour, heat and salt) that I had to push it to the far corner of the table (twice!) to stop myself from lifting the bowl and slurping it dry (since I couldn't chew the fat, ruby prawns, I wanted to take half home). Then (insert L-O-N-G pause) came the entrée, aromatic and perfectly composed with a scattering of fried, emerald basil leaves atop. Its delicate texture and full flavor made Burma Superstar's rendition taste like dry, under-seasoned soy protein. I was close to nirvana (fortunately, as the waiter never came to check on me while I was actually eating). I had noticed a Thai coffee granita with Kahlua on the dessert menu, and thought I could "get my cocktail on" that way, but the waiter was having none of it. He told me the dessert options, replacing the granita with a young coconut panna cotta. What the hell, I figured, serendipity got me this far! The glistening smooth custard, drizzled with a sweet-tart mango coulis, took me back to my years in the Golden Triangle, cracking open a green coconut straight from the tree and scooping out the soft flesh. Bring a book or a flask; it's worth the wait!

When you see "Michelin Guide Recommended" in the window or a restaurant you know you're in for two things- 1. A good meal. and 2. Your Yelp review standards raising.

I can't complain too much- Soi Four was good. In terms of ambiance and service it was all a hit, nothing to complain about! I had a few dishes, however, that could have been better... The 'Fish Trap' curry was a seafood combo of scallops, shrimps, calamari and more- however when they brought it out it had exactly 2 scallops, 2 shrimps, and a handful of calamari. The potion of seafood was pretty weak and cost a whopping $14. Another dish I had a problem with was the Skirt-Steak rice dish- The menu doesn't mention that it would be drenched in radish flavor and leave your mouth and tastebuds humming for the next 12 hours.

Even the Thai Iced Tea could use a little work- it was way to sweet. =/

I did have the Shrimp Pad Thai, which was awesome! I don't think any Thai restaurant can mess that up! While I didn't enjoy several dishes and the price to portion ratio was a bit high for me, I can still say this is a good restaurant based on overall ambiance and service. A classy little place on College Ave- I can't say it's terrible but I probably won't be back.

Edit: Upon inspecting my seafood curry photo for this restaurant(http://www.yelp.com/bi...) Marti L. noted "It looks like there's more garish than actual food!" I agree! lol

I have no clue what Soi Four means, but in my book it stands for "really good Thai food"!

I went there for with a party of 5 and ordered quite a few dishes. Some of my favorites were: Pad See You with prawns, Eggplant with prawns, Scallops and the Seafood claypot. So good!

Soi Four has a clean, modern style and dishes that live up to its simple elegance. I'll be back for another round!

I drove up to Rockridge on a Friday night to catch up with an old friend. I suggested Asian food, and she came up with this gem. Soi Four is a stylish Thai restaurant on College Ave.

Thank God for Yelp, because I would've never tried out the turnip cakes. The texture was very consistent and had a little bit of a pepper kick at the end. The scallop skewers and crab fried rice were also quite good.

Bottom line: If i lived closer, I'd be here all the time.

Soi Four is great! I went there for the first time for my birthday last night.  We had a large group, and ordered a little bit of everything.  Everything was delicious!
Turnip cakes and Pork shoulder curry were hands down my favorites.  Also, try the Silky Sky cocktail, it's a really tasty lychee drink.  I can't wait to go back.  Not only was the food delicious but the service was also very good.

Everything was perfect except the fish cakes which were really rubbery. I left one and the manager came out and asked what was wrong. We told him and he apologized, removed it from the check, and agreed with our criticism and was going to take it off the menu. Great food and incredible example of listening to customers.

4.5 stars!

Absolutely wonderful in so many ways! Not only are the workers really helpful and friendly (not to mention cute!) but the food is exquisite. We had a group of 13, but we split the large table into 2 groups. For 6 people, we ordered the pad kee mao, pineapple fried rice, pad see ew, braised beef curry, tofu small plate, and chinese broccoli with fried pork belly.

The presentation is so nice as well! Though we stuck with the usual thai dishes, they were the best dishes I've ever eaten. The fried pork belly bits were my favorite. The braised beef was really popular at our table.

I would've given it a full 5 stars, but they messed up the date of our reservation. And I'm thinking they were annoyed b/c we arrived 15 min late to our real reservation, but they still hadn't set up the table. But no biggie, the food and service made up for it.

The ambiance, food, pricing, and service make Soi4 the perfect place for a college ladies' night out.

This time, we started off with some Ginger-tini's and had the "Fresh rolls (vermicelli, prawns, & veggies w/ crushed peanuts, lime vinaigrette)", and "Golden pouches of crab & minced pork w/ sweet Thai dipping sauce" appetizers.  For our main: the "Thai pineapple fried rice w/ prawns" (this was almost like a dessert -also had golden raisins in it -very different), and the "Lemongrass grilled Angus sirloin w/ mint sauce" (always a hit) and the "Japanese scallop sautéed in semi-spicy curry paste w/ young peppercorn & krachai" (I prefer my scallops more dry & with a nice crust, but these were pretty good).  Parking is a little hairy.  Excellent, friendly, fast service with a smile!

We had dinner there on at about 7:00 PM on Sunday night. We had four people in our party and we were seated right away, as it was only about half full. We really enjoyed it overall. The food was tasty and flavorful, although some seasoning adjustment should be made on a few dishes.

Our menu was greatly influenced by other Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed.

We had:
-Thai Pork & shrimp wontons (A+). It was perfect in every way. if you have more than two people, or two dishes!
-Braised Beef (B+). Tender and succulent, but a little under spiced for us. Make sure you have extra rice for this dish or you will waste the ample sauce
-Crab Fried Rice (A-). It was sweet and tender and perfectly cooked. Would be an A, but not enough crab.
-Pad Thai (A). Simply one of the best we ever had.
-Charcoal grilled prawns, scallops, and calamari (B+), was very good. Though this dish has a LOT of onions. They were nearly raw, and we felt they should be cooked a little more. It's also pretty spicy.
-Wok seared mixed vegetables were good (B), but not superb.

The service was good, and the ambiance was nice as well. We are all used to eating good Thai food, and we'd all go back again.

I can't believe that I never walked into this place after passing it so many times when I live in the Rockridge area. The best Thai food that I have had in a long time.

I came here on a Saturday night with my best friend and our friend from out of town. It is highly recommended that you make reservations on a weekend night because when we were done with our meal the group of three that was there before us was still standing outside freezing their tushes off.

My best friend ordered the Chicken Satay with sticky rice, our friend the Pad Thai and I ordered the Pad Kee Mao, which I should of asked for less spicy because I was guzzling water and my friends kept looking over just waiting for my top to blow. When they say spicy they mean it too. Other than the super spiciness I liked the dish. The peanut sauce that came with the Satay had just enough peanut flavor to it. But what we were raving about was my friend's Pad Thai, that was the best I've ever had in a long while, and I've had a lot of Pad Thai and it ranges from really "we don't know what the hell we are doing" to lets just put a lot of peanuts and bean sprout to make it look pretty.

We have made it our mission to come back here for the Pad Thai in our next foodie adventure.

I recently moved to Rockridge, and Soi Four has become a new favorite restaurant of mine.  Every single dish I've tried has been quite tasty, but the eggplant is a particular favorite of mine.  I have never had to wait for a table.  Beware the fact that they do charge for refills of sodas (seriously who does that any more!)  and it does not mention this fact on their menu.  So perhaps consider sticking to water, which is free.

When you find a little green worm crawling in your salad, that is not good.  When we showed it to the waitress, she said it was organic and she shrugged it off.

She charged us for the salad.

That was not the best idea.  I think she should have apologized for the mishap and she should have bought us a glass of wine to wash that worm flavor out of our mouth.

Ewww.  A worm is not what I want to see crawling on my plate.  Soi 4 - you could do better when washing your greens.

Took my family here for my Mom's bday, I think it was a good choice.  Venue/ambiance was upscale enough for a special occassion, but casual and inexpensive enough for families.

Osha Thai is my other favorite, and Soi4 is definitely comparable if not better.  I ordered:

Curried fish cake ($7) - For those that love fish paste, Soi4's mixes theirs with bits of basil and pan fries them to golden brown perfection.
Calamari with leek, lemongrass & chili ($11) - Good, but portion is small.  More basil than seafood.
Crab fried rice ($9.5) - My favorite dish!! Highly recommended!! Makes for a good staple dish.
Tiger prawns, salmon, & mussels wok tossed with chilies and Thai basil ($13) - Good, but not amazing.
Duck & pineapples curry ($11.5) -  I love duck curry, and Soi4 makes it very well.
Sea bass served with mango salad ($15) - Pricey considering the portion.  Fish was a bit cold and in small chunks.  Not even close to the best sea bass I've had.
Steak cubes with stringless snap peas ($12) - Generous portions, beef cubes were a bit on the tough side.  Good sauce.

I like the fact that dishes allowed for family-style sharing.  I was able to feed a table of 8 for just a little over $120.

Service was friendly and they did not give me a hard time for spilling a giant cup of water everywhere :P.  Will be back again.

I used to work in the area, and Soi4 was practically our cafeteria.  I went there for lunches with coworkers, and dinners for those late nights at work.

Soi4 is a really cute place with trendy decor and friendly staff.  Generally, I much prefer lunch there rather than dinner.  It's a bit more low-key and you can actually enjoy the openness of the restaurant and the skylights.  In the evening, the trendiness sets in and the crowd reminds me a bit of the Marina in San Francisco.  Which is fine if that's you're thing, but I tend to prefer a more low-key style.

On to the food!  They make really good noodles - pad see-ew, pad ke mao, pad thai...all that.  The noodles are well-flavored and have a nice chewiness to them that many places lack.  They make great salads (such as green papaya salad and larb gai) that are refreshing and delicious, as well as a number of great stir-fry dishes (like their gai pik-khing - chicken with green beans).

My only -1 star gripe about them in their curry.  I love Thai curries, and theirs fall short in the richness and depth of flavor that I come to expect from Thai curries.  So, the curry sauce is not as great as I would expect...and on top of that, the meats and veggies in there are not properly flavored.  They taste a bit like they pre-cooked the items and then stuck them in the curry to reheat when the dish is ordered.  The quality is okay if I'm really craving curry, but sub-par when compared to other Thai places.

Hubby and I took our year old daughter with us for dinner last night. First I want to say that I'm not one of those parents who think everyone should cater to kids, and don't want the fact that I bring her to impact any other diners. I think it is rude when others let their kids do as they please in a restaurant.

So, I was not sure if we should bring her here since it seems a little fancier than most Thai places, but they have a kids menu which would translate to me  that kids would be welcome. So we walked in and the hostess with her short shorts gave us a nasty look and seated us in the tightest table in a corner. The wait staff were rushing to take our order and didn't  ask us if we wanted drinks. We continued to get nasty looks by other staff except one guy who was nice. The other diners didn't seem to have a problem with us.

We did have some lovely food, turnip cakes were yummy.
Had the service not been so rude, I'd have gone back sans baby. But we were meant to feel so unwelcome that I don't see going back anytime soon.

In the spirit of not breaking our Saturday Date Night tradition, Boyfriend insisted that we still go out to dinner even after a long  NY to Oakland flight for him.  I picked him up at the Oakland airport at 8:30PM.
We just wanted a hot comforting no frills meal but still good enough for a date night. I took him straight to Soi Four Bangkok in Rockridge.

Date: March 28, 2009 @ 9ish in the evening.
Occasion: Saturday Date Night with Boyfriend.

Ambiance:   Metropolitan Big City Asia like Singapore, Manila and Bangkok. Hip. Party. Loud.

Social Scene: Nicely dressed young, hip North Oakland/Berkeley couples and groups of friends.

Decor: We sat upstair for the first time. It was a square patio that was not as exciting as being downstairs.  The patio was dimmed, candle-lit, more intimate and had very minimal decor except a big red square lamp as a focal point. Best seats are the ones with the view of the downstairs dining room.  The couple right next to us didn't mind at all. They were too busy flirting while I wished we were seated downstairs or with a view.

Service:  A little slow  but not rushed. Very friendly.

What we ordered:
Calamari salad
Eggplant satay
Duck curry
Mussel, prawns and calamari in Thai Basil Sauce
Rice

Tab:  51.90 including tax and tip

Overall:
1. I love Soi Four for its hipness and have been here many times.
2. I think the food at Soi Four is hit or miss. The last time I was here we had a superb meal but not this time.
3.  Our calamari salad was still warm that it took away from the taste.
4.  The duck was chewy and tough. Last time I was here in February it was tender and very good.
5.   The egglant satay was also a little bit on the tough side.
6.  The seafood in Thai Basil sauce was very good.
7.   Everything was  still yummy. The curries and sauces were delicious. However, the temperature and texture of the food were off.
8. I still love this place and I will keep on coming back.  I can forgive the minor glitches.

Boyfriend and I walked back to our car. Although it was already almost 10 PM, Rockridge was still festive and people were still out and about.  The air was scented with jasmine.

I feel so blest to be living in Oakland.  Yes, non-Oaktown people, we have lots of good stuff here, too, on this side, and we love our town!

It is great to find a place that provides great food that is not at a super star price.  I felt like I was eating at a shmancy place but the price tag was not.  The food was delicious and the staff was super nice.

It does get crowded so get there early.

Great atmosphere, location, service and food.  Really tasty but do they really have scallops, mussels and okra in Thailand??  I spent a year there and do not recall eating any of these things.

The tom yum soup was good but pricey for a teeny cup ($4.50)...also a bit on the sweet side.

The green curry with scallops, shrimp, mussels and okra was tasty and spicy.  I enjoyed my tiny portion of it.

Poor prices and tiny portions.  Paid $5 for one coke and a refill.

I went for lunch and they had dinner pricing.  Wondered why they did not have a lunch menu???

I went here because the Yelp reviews were so high but I would not return.  With a city full of great ethnic food, why pay such high prices for a fancy atmosphere and white crispy linens?

This place is awesome. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Upon walking in, we realized that we would be dining near California Attorney General Jerry Brown. This guy has held more California political office than Ron Jeremy has held, uhh.... Anyhow, we didn't end up sitting at the open table next to Mr. Brown, but we sat within a few tables of him.

We intended to go for a cheaper dinner. A family member had been there for lunch earlier in the day and insisted we go back for dinner. We ordered the Pad Thai, pineapple and prawn fried rice, and some sort of a semi-spicy beef and green vegetable dish. Much to my confusion, the fried rice dish (mine) ended up coming out as a crab and lime fried rice dish. I do not regret this at all, since the dish was AMAZING. The Pad Thai was good for what it was, and the beef dish was out of this world.

All of these dishes were modestly priced, two of them being under $10 each. So, the bill ended up being settled for $30 + tip, which isn't bad for what seems to be a real gem of a restaurant on College Avenue. The service was also very fast - we couldn't have been in there more than 35-40 minutes, tops.

Had a great time here last night - group of four of us ate here very reasonably and healthy too!  Turnip cakes were delicious, and the sauce on the blue lake green beans and shitakke mushrooms was delicious... my mouth is still watering today.  So good to find an unpretentious, not-too crowded, hip place on College.  We'll be coming back many times for sure! Can't wait to come back and try the yummy-looking cocktails too - stuck with just a glass of wine last night.

The food was delicious! Here's a rundown of what my party of 9 had:

Drinks
1. Lychee mojito - not on the menu, super good
2. Don't remember the name but it had rum, pineapple juice, young coconut and tasted exactly like a pina colada; really good
3. Also don't remember the name but it had lycee liquor, vodka, and grapefruit juice: wasn't too tasty
4. Thai iced tea - I prefer it richer (more cream)

Appetizers
1. Turnip Cake - glorified version of the Chinese dimsum variety; largest of the appetizers we got
2. Indian Bread - came out looking kind of like a pizza but tasting like pre-built naan, curry, and veggies; very good and a favorite at the table
3. Golden Bags - Yummy, like eggrolls but smaller and much better
4. Chicken Satay - also good, but with everything else available, why get this?

Entrees
1. Lychee Duck - Just tasted like duck to me, did not really detect the lycee flavoring on the duck; still good, though
2. Roasted Duck w/curry - Good, but not memorable
3. Braised beef short ribs in curry sauce - this dish was large, the beef was super tender, and overall DELICIOUS
4. Simple curry - don't remember if this is the actual name but it was yellow curry with chicken. good, but the last dish to be finished at the table
5. Pad Thai - better than average, but as with the satay...there's so much more to try!
6. Pad Ke Mao - LOVED this. Flavorful, spicy, and didn't feel greasy like it sometimes does
7. Green seafood curry with scallops, mussels, etc - very good version of green curry and much better than the yellow

Dessert:
1. Fried banana with ice cream: the banana is in smaller pieces than at most places I've seen (which I like). Couldn't figure out the flavor of the ice cream...might have been coconut? This wasn't as good as the rest of the food

Just wanted to jot this all down so I didn't forget everything later. All of the food was demolished and everyone left fat and happy :)

Minus 1 star for making us wait even though we had a reservation
Plus 1 star for dealing with one of our friends...who could be heard throughout the entire restaurant :X

One of the best restaurants I've been to in East Bay! The turnip appetizer is ridiculously good

The decor of the restaurant is modern with high ceilings and large glass windows.  Most Thai restauants don't bother with the ambience, but this place does a great job in creating a pleasurable dining experience.

The staff is friendly and our meals were served in a timely manner.  I should have read the yelp reviews as I would have ordered the turnip cakes, beef cubes and the crab fried rice.  Our meal was okay, but I thought it was a bit pricey. They should update their on-line menu as the actual prices on their restaurant menu have changed (as high as 25%).

We went based on what we saw on-line; probably would not have gone
otherwise.

We like to stick to the front page of the menu where the appetizers, skewers, salads, and small plates live. The turnip cakes are a good Thai interpretation of the Chinese favorite - I'm used to seeing a brick of turnip cake at Chinese restaurants, so bite-sized turnips with bean sprouts, green onions, eggs, and hot sauce was very much appreciated.

Roasted duck on a watercress salad was DELICIOUS and the portabello mushroom skewers were fantastic with tasty peanut sauce.

I'm sure dessert would be delicious, if we saved room for it. Next time!

4 stars for their crispy pork on a bed of greens.

I give them credit for triggering my taste bud memory of a similar dish i have in Thailand. It wasn't as good but it was pretty damn close.

Duck Curry is good too.

I had a birthday dinner at Soi Four this past weekend.  It was absolutely fantastic!  We tried about 10 different dishes and they were all delicious.  We had a variety of folks at the party, including a vegetarian.  We tried meat and vegetarian dishes, which were all so yummy!

I think the most important thing to know about this restaurant is that while it is Thai food, it is so much more contemporary and innovative than most Thai restaurants I typically frequent.  While these are normally a bit less expensive, they are also not as interesting and varied.

Soi Four is several steps above in the quality of the meat and vegetables, the variety of sauces and flavors, and there is a welcoming and mellow ambiance that is good for both couples and larger groups.

The wait staff was helpful and patient.  They offered suggestions on dishes and provided excellent service.

I cannot say enough about this restaurant.  And, it is proudly located in Oakland!
