The Soho Grand is my favorite NYC hotel. The service is usually top notch. The concierge and doorman are excellent.... the bartenders are usually spot on (sometimes they don't hire great ones -- I doubt they'll last) and the rooms are comfortable. The location, for me, is excellent. I enjoy the neighborhood and proximity to the village. The scene at the Grand Bar at night is great... DJ's and music... drinks!

I've been staying here lately on our work trips to nyc. Unlike other boutique hotels, the rooms are quite spacious! The restaurant and bar offer a hip nightlife, and the staff is really friendly. So far I keep getting lower-level floors, but the view is still pretty great. The price may not be cheap but what you get is an ideal blend of comfort & style.
It's pretty much 5 stars but they lose 1 on the non-free wi-fi for guests & the unusual bathroom wallpaper. Yes, a half star subtraction because it really is that unusual.

yet another business trip. luckily i was traveling with a VP who wanted to stay here. (SCORE!)
best customer service i've ever received at a hotel, EVER.
the room was a tad on the small side for the price i paid (well the company paid)
great bathrobes, high quality bath products, great king sized bed, gorgeous view, room service was superb.
i'd stay here again, no doubt.
My favorite hotel in NYC. Close to two different subway lines which can get you down to the financial district or up to mid-town, central park or Harlem quickly. There are a bunch of good stores just north of the hotel for shoppers. I like to take a nice 20min walk to good/cheaper eats in the east village. Close by the hotel is Ruben's Empanada's for a quick bite or across the street is a hidden convenience store where you can grab snacks or drinks. The hotel rooms are good sized by NYC standards. For roomservice get the calamari appetizer, excellent. They just do everything right and are in a great location.

Definitely one of my favorites hotels in New York City. The main reason is that they allow dogs. ,Because I had stayed there a few times and enrolled myself on their frequent customer list, every time I made a reservation they asked if "Dorothy" would be joining me. If she was, when we arrived there was a dog bed, box of biscuits, and a water bowl waiting in my room. Another perk - Dogs are also allowed in the lounge.
It goes beyond that. A free glass of champagne while your checking in, gorgeous rooms with great linens, great bathroom amenities, Bose clock and CD player with an eclectic collection of CD's also add to the pleasures of staying here. The location can't be beat. It's in the southern section of SoHo and on the fringe of Chinatown so there is shopping and eating everywhere.
It's a bit pricey but if it's a special occasion or if you want a place where your pooch is more than welcome this is your place.
Note: The first time I stayed there after my dog Dorothy died they asked if she would be joining me. I explained that she died and when I arrived there was a nice sympathy note in the room. Customer Service doesn't get any better.

Great home base while in the city. Defines what a hip boutique hotel should be. Usually priced pretty reasonably for Manhattan and the bars are nice and chill with quality DJs spinning.
T and I came here last night to meet up with some of my people. This out of towner was staying here and she always stays here when she's flying in from Toronto.
She loves this hotel!
We came here to meet up for some drinks.
Since I am a sipper - I only got to taste one drink, which was the hotel own lovely concotion of Raspberry Cosmo. It was very refreshing since it contained real fruit puree.
I took a sip of T's - whoa, the Pineapple Mojito....I think it was missing the Pineapple fruity flavor. Sorry I love fruity drinks so this wasn't my cup of tea. But H and T both ordered it and they both loved it.
It's a nice place to sit around with your friends if you're looking for something relaxing and quiet.

This is one of my favorite hotels in New York. The location is great, as it's right next to all the wonderful boutiques and what not of Soho. I had a corner room on an upper floor, and my view of midtown manhattan was jaw-dropping.
The hotel also has two very cool bars, so if you just want to roll easy after a day of work/walking around, you neednt go far at all.

Note**This review is for the bar only!
What a civilized place to imbibe a cocktail! Pick one of the two bars, or perch comfortably in one of the many seating areas. Dim lights, soft cushiony chairs, a long a varied cocktail and wine menu awaits you.
Whether it's a group of friends or a date, the atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated.
Definitelly try the Pomegranate Martini, it's a heavenly, smooth cocktail.

Trendy lobby. I can imagine it has quite a scene.
The room left me feeling underwhelmed. It was not small but not a 100% comfortable amount of space. The room was boring but the CD selection and alarm clock were a nice addition. The bathroom seemed outdated to me too. Not a bad experience but not my favorite hotel in NYC, by a long shot, especially at $300+/night.

Service spectacular, menu impeccable, conversation = divine...
Staying here and having friends meet with you in the lounge before you frolic the day away...definitely a heart opening experience.
Lounging away having more than my fair share of Pinot while sharing the most secret parts of your soul inspires you to reflect on all of the enlightening and magical experiences that have come your way in the past 7-8 years. Maybe it was the specialness that comes around the time of your birthday, or knowing that a few years ago you imagined yourself to be in this place, time, and surrounded by great pals who you can be your true self with..and then to be here!!!
Well, it definitely lends a standing ovation hand to the term wishful thinking.

I must admit I'm not usually into the whole hotel bar scene. But in this place I can very easily get swept away. The decor is beautiful, but I learned the hard way some of the couches are not meant to be sat on.

I've already proclaimed my love affair with hotel bars, but MAN. I love, love, love the bar here. I'm never disappointed - the drinks (strong and delish), the staff (uber-friendly), the people (stylish, NOT from Jersey), the vibe (lively, never obnoxious) - it's always perfect! And don't get me started on how much I love the decor - it's just as I envision the library will be in the Greenwich house I'm buying...someday.

First things first: the bartender here made the best Manhattan I have ever had!
The decor of the bar is outstanding. Very high ceilings, enough space to be comfortable, but small enough to be cozy and perfect for a date.
As an added bonus, my friend and I met all sorts of interesting people, including two knockouts who were actually buying our act. What's more, my friend started chatting with some older guy who was also from Miami and by the time we moved on to the next stop, they were hugging their goodbyes! Just an all-around good vibe in this place. Or maybe the drinks were just really that special!
Yes, the cocktails are $12-14 a pop, but this is the case all over New York. Plus, the bartender definitely hooked us up with a few drinks on the house, so we came out in good shape and with a little coin left in our pockets for the rest of the night.

After hearing a lot of hype on the Soho Grand, I made the regretful decision to stay here early this year. The lobby is nice, the staff is nice, but not nice enough to make up for the bland, tiny room. Certainly not nice enough for the asking price.

Its a nice, relaxing, classy atmosphere. good service, kinda slow at times, but we got the same waitress and she took care of us.
drinks are decent, nothing spectaular.. but the chocolate cake is OMG.. so heavenly! and i dont even like cake. the vanilla ice cream it comes with is so creamy and tastes homemade. yum yum yum!

My company just launched two brand new and exciting products to the Spirits world a few weeks ago and so we all stayed here during the launch. The rooms are a bit small but very swanky as is the bar and lounge there. It is in a great location with close proximity to the Clinton district (formerly called the Meatpacking). The service was excellent and the staff very accommodating. The only reason it does not get 5 starts is it was missing the Wow factor. But I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Grand is the only adjective I can think of which is, well, pretty sad considering it's in the title. Sweeping stair cases, giant pillars and $15 cocktails really don't call for anything else. The service was polite if a little bit slow but they didn't even scowl at us when my date dropped a wine glass on their slate floor. Now that says class my friends!
I recently stayed here, but I don't think I would again.
When you come in, the lobby and the bar are very nice looking. I would go as far as to say very inviting. So we went into the bar/lounge for a coffee. It was late at night so we asked for some Kahlua to go with the coffee. $24.
The Soho Grand is marketing itself as a high range hotel. The bar certainly fits, but the rooms don't. The executive whatever they wanna call it was very small and the furniture was worn. The head board looked very, very used. The curtains were weather beaten. They were worn and ripped actually. I had to use both hands to draw the curtains because they kept tearing on the handles of the windows. I'm not a big fan of bright over head lighting, but I was wishing for some here because it was hard to read anything. There just wasn't sufficient lighting. The bathroom was of a nice size, on the plus size. All in all, more of a mid range hotel room. Which wouldn't be that bad, not bad at all, if it wasn't for the price they were asking. There was no highway around, but it still felt like robbery.
Part of the deal was a continental breakfast brought to your room. Of the three days we asked for this service, we received our breakfast, ONCE.
For what we got, the price should have been in between 1/4, 1/3 of what they were asking. And that's generous.

I'm only reviewing the bar. I was told by a very friendly bartender at The Coffee Shop that I absolutely had to have a drink at the Soho Grand Bar. So I did. But I shouldn't have.
I sat down at the bar and was ignored by the bartender for a good 10 minutes. The guy sitting 2 stools down from me actually asked me if I wanted to get a drink. The bartender was a little busy, but he made 5 trips from behind the bar to the same table, each time bringing just 1 or 2 items. Even if you're busy, don't avoid eye contact with the new customer. I'm a patient guy and all it takes is a nice smile and an aknowlegement like "I'll be right with you" when you're standing 8 feet away from me making a cocktail for somebody else. Keeping your head down and ignoring me is the worst thing you could do.
$12 for an Absolut Mandarin and soda. Absolut Rediculousness!!!
The bar itself is beautiful and comfortable. The lounge area is filled with couches and low tables. It could be a very nice place to have a drink or two, but the service (or should I say lack of service) and the prices will keep me away.

What happened to SoHo? It's turned into an outdoor mall.
I really wanted to like the SoHo Grand but I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. There is way too much hype surrounding it (thanks Lindsey!). If service is important to you, do not stay here. If a decent bar scene is important to you, come for drinks. The rooms are not great. I have had better at other hotels in NY.
If you do stay here and don't smoke, be sure to ask for a non-smoking room. Otherwise, they will put you on the 8th floor. The stench is horrible.

Contrary to my broader principals, I have a soft spot for the faded grandeur of the aristocracy. An appreciation for that special way that old-money has of doing some things in life just right. But all old money was new money once. At some point the hard-earned but gaudy showmanship mellows to a refined elegance and practiced footstep.
At the Soho Grand Hotel you can witness that transformation in progress.
I have stayed here once, recently, for four days on a work trip. I will definitely be returning. It is a great location, given especially that my trips to NYC usually involve running to meetings both Uptown and in the Financial District, plus trying to catch up with friends who are all over the place.
It was clearly too-hip and too-hyped once, but that is passing. And whilst I could detect the occasional insecurity that goes with that status (e.g. the indiscreetly burly bouncer guarding the elevator going to the upper floors during some sort of event), the over-arching vibe is welcoming, helpful and relaxed.
The rooms were a respectable size by NYC standards and I liked the unfussy but thoughtful decoration. The bathroom was spacious too- and I was very appreciative of the presence of a proper hairdryer and deliciously soft towels. Everything was clean and comfortable.
{Also when I was there, I received complimentary New York Times, WSJ and FT every morning- which was really, really helpful for my work, as I could catch up before heading out to meetings. I am not sure if that is standard though.}
The hotel has a small exercise room with three treadmills a bike, a cross-trainer thing and some weight type machines etc and TVs, which I (astonishingly for me) made use of. I was either on my own there of with one other person- it turned out be a bit of bonus. I think the hotel has an outdoor bar and a restaurant, neither of which I made use of. I didn't use room service either.
But the absolute gem of the place is its lounge bar which I found joyfully laid-back. I am a fan of a good hotel lounge anyway. But especially when I am staying there, they are a great place to catch up with someone before heading out for the day, a relaxed way to start an evening, a place just to read the paper that's not a bedroom and so on. I want to be as comfortable having a coffee, an aperitif or a night-cap. So, they are hard places to get right. I think the Soho Grand gets it spot on, with mainly soft-seating but a slightly separated bar area and a nicely-judged level of attentiveness.
But now back to my initial point, I like the lounge so much because of its home from home (but better service) quality and that's what the best old-school hotels do at every turn. The Soho Grand also shows its stripes with service in other areas- from the read-my-mind concierge, to the boisterously helpful doormen and the get-it-done reception staff I was impressed. It was all old-fashioned courtesy and service sprinkled with a bit of modern cool and charm.

I like this hotel. I really do. Started off a bit badly as i did arrive at 3am, hotel was totally sold out and i was stuck with a smoking room. Being a smoker made it a little bit easier, but i don't like smoking hotel rooms...
They changed me the next day to a corner-king room which is a bit bigger, the upgrade was a nice gesture.
I love the Frette linens and the high end boutique soaps/lotions. The lounge is cool, full of good looking people... and the food here (room svc) is actually quite delicious. I had their fresh tomato soup and it was one of the nicer tomato soups i've had. Friendly staff, very attentive.
I will gripe about the internet access fee - $10? It's like 500+ per night here, throw in some free internet!
Overall a fine boutique hotel.

Now that this hotel has been home for about a week - I like this place even more. The food in the lounge is great - breakfast was delicious (eggs benedict // english breakfast // poached eggs on porcini mushrooms & toast) - and their bar food isn't bad either (proscuitto with figs and a small salad...et. al)
And they make a very mean martini using house cured olives. Yum.
Love this place...

have only been in the bar/lounge area and i quite like the set up... the seating is comfortable and their small bites are quite good. a nice place to kick back and relax. there's also a 24 h dunkin donuts around the corner... i've never stayed here but i'd imagine that would be nice for guests.
This is a really cool hotel. I think I actually liked it better than Tribeca Grand. It's more laid back. The previous reviews are right on!
We had the Seduction In SoHo package: free daily b-fast, 2 cocktails, chocolates, and adjusted check in/out times. Highly recommended.
Only complaint: Front Desk was a bit harried up at check in & out. It was more annoying at check OUT when there was 1 person manning the desk and no one else offered to step in and help.

Chic. Modern. Smooth. Different than the norm.
Great lobby lounge scene for sipping cocktails with a friend, or a special friend.....
Rooms are about the size of one of my walk-in closets in San Francisco, but then you don't really need more than the bed, especially in NYC.
The big surprise--great service. Throughout my stay, the staff was very courteous, helpful, and cool. I had a few special requests for the concierge and each was handled in great order.

Excellent Place to stay.
My boyfriend and I visitted in April and loved the Soho Grand. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The barstaff and folks in the lounge were fun-sexy-hot! The drinks are delicious and Manny the bartender is very special.
The rooms are on the the not-so-big side but the bathrooms have plenty of water presure and are smart, urban and sleek.
The concierge staff are all excellent and have great reccomendations and even got us in for haircuts at Bumble & Bumble.
Thank you Soho Grand for a great weekend get-away!
Not the least expensive hotel in New York for sure...but very cool! Friendly staff, great bar and services and right in the middle of SoHo next to good restraunts and shopping. Away from the true New York hustle and bustle of Times Square, the Grand and the area have a neighborhood feel...relaxed and comfortable, but still trendy.

Althought the rooms are small and pricey, the service was excellent. Everyone was cool and helpful. When I was there some psycho bike messenger stabbed the doorman (in the hand) so there was some excitement. Especially, after the cops brought a dog to find the bike messenger and then the dog bit an innocent bystander. The bar and lounge were also cool. I was visiting from the Bay Area so I really liked walking around and checking out the neighborhood. Also helped that crazy bike messengers dont scare me :) btw: don't get me wrong, I felt 100% safe the whole time I was there. Its a beautiful hotel in a fun hip neighborhood. Oh yeah, if you're in need of a light late night snack, room service was great and the chicken soup was perfect.

The Soho Grand has gone downhill.
I've been staying there for about 5 years - I started going there because they allowed me to bring my large dog with me when I would drive up from DC, and there's a dog daycare a couple blocks away. It's very dog friendly, I've even had my dog in the bar before prime time.
The rooms are small, but niceley appointed. However on my most recent trip last week I had to switch rooms because my first room had a very strong cheap air freshener smell, and it wasn't even a smoking room. The next room was better, but still smelly. The furniture was also more beat up than I remembered.
I'll still continue to stay at the Soho Grand, mostly because of the location, but I think they need to freshen up the rooms a bit.

I remember one thing from my experience with this hotel, and that's how the staff are always there for you, but they are never in your way. They are always calm, and relaxed making the visitor feel welcomed and taken care of.
The prices for rooms range between 350-600 a night, which is not very expensive considering the fact your staying in Soho, the young hip area of Manhattan. Actually it is expensive if you add the TAX :P.
Even if you don't get the chance to stay there, check their bar out. Its an excellent place for a date, business meeting, or just for a drink. :)

It was big, comfy, and a decent price. The major downside was the loud loud noises that could be heard through the walls and door. Every morning I was there I heard loud foot steps walking actoss the hall. I swear it sounded like some people were just walking back and forth for like 4 hours. There was also construction going on early in the morning right outside our window. I think it was just a bad location for the room.
Other than all that the staff was pretty friendly and the place felt safe and clean. I didn't worry about my stuff getting stolen, having the toilet explode in my face, or having giant cockroaches creep up out of the walls. Actually I think we did spot one roach, but it was pretty small and looked lost. The chickenhead maids were a little weird and overworked, but didn't bug us too much. The hotel is in a great location right next to Chinatown and a subway stop. It was a great place to go for my first trip to NYC.
Trendy, Hipster seem to love the lobby bar / lounge. Have yet to hear amazing things about the rooms but everything downstairs looks A-Okay.

I am not rating it based on the rooms - haven't seen em. I am rating it based on the upstairs lounge for cocktails. I went on a cold rainy night and found it to be a warm welcome. It was interesting - clientele at one end was completely different than the other end. Older generation to the left; younger to the right. This is a great place to go and sit in the middle on a couch and people-watch.

The rooms aren't large, but they are charmingly well designed. The last time I stayed there I sat next to Uuma Thurman and Quentin Tarentino in the bar, and tried to stifle my giggles at his clumsy attempts at seduction. The bar continues to be a hotspot and the the prices remain at a steady high, but worth it both for the proximity to Soho cool, and it must be said, for the cache. http://www.sohogrand.com/

Industrial chic marries a warm retro feel in this new hotel. That's right. Attention to detail is very pleasing - from an iron handrail ending with a hound head in the lounge staircase, to champagne upon arrival, to a fishbowl with a black fish (the aquarium was put on a bedstand in my room - complementing the black marble inlays - after I briefly admired it, perhaps tipsy on the champagne). Aesthetic yet pet-friendly! Highly recommended for an elegant yet minimalist dwelling close to all the Soho fixtures.
