As an update I have since gone back and I want to applaud them for being really accomodating.  I wanted an ice coffee but it was more expensive than a regular coffee and I also wanted as much coffee as possible without losing room for the ice.  The nice people there let me order a large coffee and a cup of ice filled to the brim.  Thanks!

If north Austin local coffee hell is defined as the previous caffeine void in the North Austin Java Triangle (for those coffee rookies playing the home game, that's the geometric figure formed by connecting Cafe Java, 360 Primo Coffee Shop, and Bear Rock Cafe)...

then heaven is CERTAINLY being able to sip black gold within' striking distance of TacoDeli and Mangia... while also having home made sandwiches as an option.

Sodade shatters the heart lacking caffeinated darkness and brings the local flow necessary for tremors of delight... and sleepless night.

And while there, if you blurs your eyes, it's easy to imagine that you're in a back alley in Italy sipping the finest espresso... or that you're in a racquetball court turned Ikea storage.

I've only been once but my coffee was very good, the staff super nice, and the egg sandwich homemade and tasty.

My main suggestion for improvement is that Sodade  provide a tazer for public use in shutting the cake hole of cellphone earpiece dude who just got back from Ireland and wants everyone in Mangia to know how cool that makes him.  Look around Shamu, that's stained concrete under patrons staring at you... not Bass concert hall filled with acoustical tile and clones of your mom.

It used to be that when I wanted coffee, and I was northbound on Mopac, past the Anderson exit, I would have a panic-striken look on my face and have to look around frantically to see if I passed the Duval exit or the Braker exit because those roads led me to Oakville grocery.  God forbid I would even think about getting "dirt water" Starbucks coffee.

Now, I have a solution to my caffeine addiction episodes: Sodade.  The owners and their brother are totally friendly (It's rare that my baristas talk to me enough so that I know their relation).  They have yummy Kolaches, mochas, smoothies, etc.  They are equipped with wifi.  There is a board game there, I think Clue.  Their tunes are very appropriate for a coffee house: Familiar, not too loud, allows you to close your eyes to smell your cup of Joe.

For the folks who are stuck on the freeway at 4:00-6:00 this is a great retreat to ride out the traffic if you are wanting to avoid the whole Happy Hour scene at the bars scattered along the freeway.  Even during the busy hours, it is easy to find a seat.

The secret is slowly leaking out- I hope that this place stays afloat.  They're good!!! That being said, please let me sit next to you in that empty seat when they eventually get too packed.

All the reviews for this place (before mine) are really good and provide all the necessary details and answers to all the questions anyone would have.

I knew this place was open early but I wasn't sure of the times so I checked here first and then wanted to see if I could find out if they had wi-fi.  They do!  They also have really good coffee.  I leave my house at 655am every weekday and like to get a coffee.  I will forgo the convenience of drive-thru at It's a Grind on Parmer and Amherst and the Starbucks drive-thru on the corner of Parmer and Mo-Pac to support a local, independent coffee place.

My husband told me about this place since I was distraught over Jollyville Java closing.  I felt completely guilty for not patronizing JJ as often as I wanted to because it was not exactly on my way to work. Sodade however, couldn't be MORE on my way to work, so there are no more excuses for not supporting local businesses.

I just got a coffee with cream, no pastries or anything so I can only give praise for the coffee.  I'll eventually venture out and try several other coffee drinks on the menu and update accordingly.

Independent coffee in North Austin? You can definitely tell that this place is new (super clean, and sparsely decorated) but it has a good thing going right now. They have good wifi and good music, along with comfortable tables/chairs - the coffee isn't too bad either. All I have had is the mocha, which was alright, but too much milk IMHO, too close to chocolate milk.

The place is a bit quiet as opposed to a lot of other coffeehouses I've been to, but it may have been a function of being there during the middle of the day, when it's a bunch of people there by themselves.

I think as Sodade develops more of a following, I think it will develop itself into a pretty great coffeehouse, as long as they can draw in enough folks from the area.

Excellent for what it is. This is a perfect little coffee shop for picking up a coffee on the way to work that is light years ahead of the mass-produced swill in N. Austin. You might not come here for the ambiance, but the owners are incredibly friendly and the espresso is some of the best I've had in Austin. Wifi is available.

I'm not a big coffee person but after being forced to attend an early-morning meeting today I stopped in for a Mocha. It was really good and it's true, the prices here are much more reasonable than the chains.

I am, however, a sweets person. My friend and I each picked up a lemon bar to enjoy later. And we just got done IMing each other to say, "Oh my god, those lemon bars are totally orgasmic!"

I'll definitely be back. True, it's not much for atmosphere but the owners couldn't be nicer.

Just an excellent, very nicely designed coffee shop that was so needed in this area.

I'm not a huge caffeine freak, but I've stopped by Sodade a couple of times (it's near-ish to both home and work) and been fairly impressed thus far.  I tend more towards tea than coffee and they have my absolute favorite brand of chai, David Rio San Francisco!  Not only do they have the usual spice and vanilla varieties that I've had at Joe's, but they also have the green tea version, which I tried today.  It's not quite as good as the others, but still tasty if you want something with a fairly subtle flavor.

Atmosphere-wise, it feels like more of a pop in-and-out sort of coffee joint.  It's ok for sitting down for a while, but I prefer the cozy atmosphere of somewhere like Joe's.

Major upsides: 1) their drink prices are lower than other coffee shops, 2) they don't charge extra for soy milk (!!!), 3) the brand of chai they use, as mentioned, is uber-delicious, 4) their cake and cheesecake (when they have them) are fantastic!, and 5) they don't ask for a minimum $ amount for credit card transactions.

Downside: limited selection.  Not much in the way of steeped tea right now, though I hear they're adding more of that plus smoothies and bubble tea (!!!!!) soon.  Also, rice milk, for those so inclined.

Long story short, this is a nifty little coffee shop with a lot of potential.  I'm looking forward to their expanded selection of non-coffee drinks.  Everyone should stop by to give this place the boost it needs to survive the first 3 months of small business heck!  :)

Walking into TacoDeli this morning, I noticed a coffee sign and a glowing OPEN. I thought I was hallucinating. But no! It was! A new coffeehouse! Independent?!? Yes! In North Austin!

Sodade (meaning, I think, something akin to yearning/longing for something in the past) is owned by a local man and woman. The gentleman's name is Genaro, and we had a great chat. He showed real hospitality.

The WiFi is either up or about to be, and the interior is coming into shape. Right now, it's got a warm green accent wall (like the color of a coffee bean before it's roasted) and a mishmash of Ikea-ish furniture. Mostly chairs and tables, with a few upholstered chairs and a sofa. It's still kind of bare, but it's only been 2 weeks. I'm crossing my fingers for  the development of a cozy atmosphere.

As for foods, they get assorted baked goods from Russell's and also had some mixed fruit.

I'm really excited about this place. The nearest coffeehouses are It's a Grind on Parmer and Starbucks, unless you consider Java Cafe a coffeehouse (which I don't ). This has a chance of becoming a neighborhood coffeehouse, something I didn't think we'd see up here in these parts.

I'm so excited that we finally have a nice coffeeshop up north!  It doesn't have the cluttered charm of Genuine Joe's and it's not quite as vibrant as Thunderbird, but it's got a cool minimalist sense of style.  The granite counter tops and the lovely espresso machine are very classy.  Their tables are actually a decent size if you want to sit down with your laptop, which is sort of rare at some places.  They also have one larger table (good for gaming!) with a couple of cushy chairs.

The espresso drinks are excellent...dark and rich, but not bitter.  I've tried a couple of the pastries and cakes, and all of them have been tasty so far.  Another bonus: they have Pacific soymilk, which I think is one of the better-tasting brands, and you can choose from plain or vanilla soy.  I get vanilla soy in a hazelnut latte for an interesting flavor.

I went ahead and gave 5 stars because I think the coffee here is great!! The lattes are made with care, and the quality of product (coffee, chai, fresh fruit) is excellent. Sure, they don't carry a ton of food (yet) or have their walls filled with Austin-type memorabilia, but they are brand new. Ambiance here comes from the ability to sit down and work or just talk with the owners. They are incredibly friendly and know what customer service is all about. So...if you are stopping in for coffee on your way to work, need coffee with your b-fast tacos at Taco Deli, or just want to relax for a few minutes, Sodade is a great place to go! You'll be happy.
