Recently, we took a group of 16 there for a small appetizer get together...Everything was arranged in advance and went off without a hitch. We had ribs, fries, onion rings, hot wings, and crab dip as well as the Clam Chowder and Halibut and Chips and a couple of drinks were ordered by each attendee.

So all the appetizers were great...the crab dip was exceptional, which I was surprised by. We were well attended but the place was basically dead...The owner was on hand to thank us for our business and was known by several of the attendees for some of his other ventures in Homer.

All was well and I would recommend a visit although nothing else in the complex was open to tour.

Given half way decent service and a menu with half a chance, I like to think Im pretty easy to please. Add a few drinks to that, and my grading curve becomes even more lax. Even with all those things going for them, I still cant give Sockeye's more than 3 stars.

We booked this place for our class reunion recently. Ive been here before and was really looking forward to the venue. In all honesty, we had a blast! But I think that was because we ordered more drinks than food. The setting was not as private as I had been led to believe it was, so I was initially irritated, but the restaurant manager was on hand to extinguish my ire, so I eased up and just went with it. The waiter was a little annoying - lots of people had orders that we had to ask for because he had failed to get them to the kitchen. Yes, we were a large group, but they had over a year to prepare for us!

Everytime I go in here, I feel let down. The building is part of a huge complex of rennovated old cannery buildings. Open rafter ceilings, on a pier looking out over the river. Gorgeous.
The food is only fair. While I have had some really delicious things here, I have heard several complaints of undercooked (still frozen) fried halibut, and watery clam chowder. I had the coconut shrimp, which was yummy and came with a raspberry horseradish sauce. The desserts are shipped in, not made in house, which is kind of a dissapointment.

For a place that is supposed to be marketing the best foods Alaska has to offer, I expected more. The tourists might like it, but the locals are semi-disgusted. Its been 3 years and Im still waiting for them to prove themselves. Its time to step it up, Kenai Landing!

I might book here again (they have private areas for conventions and weddings and such) but I will be a little more of a control freak and make sure they meet my expectations. Decent fare, mediocre service with a spectacular view of the Kenai River and Cook Inlet.
