The club offers something for damn near everyone.Really, it does. If you enjoy fun, drinking, sports, outings, or parties in any combination, they offer something you like.
Let's start with the fantastic:
Parties - Halloween 2008 went down as pretty epic in my world. This was our introduction to SBS and it made a significant (if hazy) impression. Tickets for 2009 are already procured.
Sports - They offer plenty, even running, in range of competitive levels. I keep that level low. Beers abound at the leagues. And you can meet some cute strangers (see note below). A pretty cheap way to get out of the house during the week.
Outings - Lots of other adventure outings as well including music, boats, rafting, etc.
Drinking - Here's the key that ties these all together. They don't choose activities that skimp on booze. So come with your drinking pants/hats on.
Then a few points of improvement....
Design - For a pretty professionally run company, both the website and the email template need a facelift. The website is hard to navigate and always leaves me frustrated. Just where in the hell is the schedule for cornhole, anyway? Make that shit easy to find. Also, the email template looks a little amateur for the amount of work these guys put into everything. Spruce it up!
Loveable chaos - My one bad experience with them was a chaotic, and frankly stressful, pubcrawl. One bar had inadequately prepped for our arrival with a single bartender. I already said this group of people takes drinking seriously, so that just was never going to work.
Lacking in the mens - Finally, this. In a category sort of on it's own.* Boston's young, single, hetero males, where in the hell are you? it's time to step up your game and expand your social horizons. There is all kinds of estrogen at these events. Take the Halloween party, for example. I bet you know what girls often wear to Halloween parties. You should come out and make this less of a vagfest. There are all kinds of single girls you could snap up. SBS does literally everything else for you.
*This has more to do with you then it does to do with SBS, but it's a good opportunity to hold you accountable.

Social Boston Sports: the only athletic league where your pre-game warm-up consists of drinking a couple beers with your team at the bar down the street. Uniforms? Sure, we all have matching t-shirts, but we also dress up for 80s night every season and play ball in denim, spandex and ruffles. And win, lose or draw, after every night of competition we always raise a glass together - that's putting the SOCIAL into Social Boston Sports.
Sports leagues, from softball and flag football to dodgeball and kickball.
Rafting trips, ski trips, and trips to the beach.
Random parties and social events throughout the city.
Hell, they're even hosting a wine tasting next week.
However you like to get down, I highly recommend you check out SBS.

SBS Varsity Card is probably the best addition in my wallet and my newest best friend.
With my varsity card, I have been able to get discounts and/or free admissions to various SBS events such as the Whitewater Rafting trip, the Cinco (or Uno) de Mayo Party, the SBS Birthday party, and the upcoming "I'm on a Boat" party, as well as free drinks or complimentary appetizers during VIP hours. Also as a Varsity Card holder, I get special invitations to private parties with free access and even free drinks!
If you play on a league, you receive 10% off your individual team fee.
The card can also be used at various venues for no line/no cover access and 10 - 20 % discounts on foods and products.
Additionally, the card already comes equipped with $25 from http://BuyYourFriendAD... to use at participating bars!
The best part is that I only have to carry one card to get all these discounts and special access, all the while doubling as my BYFAD card.
Just a Note: SBS also offers a JV card as well with similar discounts and access.

Single? Married? Divorced? Part animal? Want to combine your love of women, sports, and women? If you ask me--and by reading this you have effectively asked me--there is no better group of people out there to get some exercise with, have some friendly competition with , and/or be all around social with than the people over at Single Boston Singles. Before joining SBS dodgeball I was a weak pathetic excuse for a human being with no notable social skills. Within one hour of constant balls to the face I changed from a man who could barely hold a conversation that didn't include the words "Kirk", "enterprise", or "KAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN", to a suave and debonair gentleman who can hurl a nerf ball at the speed of pain.
Dodgeball not your thing? Well they have other sports too (and more social events as well)...but more importantly why don't you like dodgeball? Picked last? Well that's okay, its all about fun with these SBSers. Also, a huge plus, ever so often a stray ball will rocket into the face of someone in the audience...if only we had slow motion in real life.
Bottom line: Get out there and grab some balls.

You know that cutie that you can't help approaching after seeing them in line at the grocery store, at the table next to you at your favorite sub shop, biking through your neighborhood -- that's my relationship with SBS. I'd seen their events on Yelp, and they definitely sounded cool and fun, my buddies had partaken and raved about it so I was intrigued but somehow didn't make it out until today for their Beach Bash. And I am so glad I did!
We hopped on the Bustonian party bus stocked with UFO at 10am and advanced down the road towards Duxbury Beach. It was ideal for our big group as we had ample flat and sand space to play volleyball, paddleball, bocce and catch all brought by the SBS fellows. I was really impressed with how well executed and organized the trip was. Brian and Justin are simply awesome.
All in all, it was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday mingling with friendly spirited folks and engaging in some kinesthetic activity. And drinking and dancing on a bus at 10am only portends good things to come!

SBS is Amazing!! I just recently went on their white water rafting trip and had so much fun! I met some great people and will definately be attending more events. They also have tons of sports that you can participate in which is a plus. I have been to many events with different groups but SBS is by far the very BEST!!

I recently joined Social Boston Sports and I'm so glad I did.
This is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn of cool activities, and make wicked cool outings more affordable.
I recently joined a large group of other young professionals at their last gathering at Hurricane O'Reilly's. I was able to mix and mingle with people I would not have otherwise met and at the same time, had a chance to win a prize for two to go skydiving and white water rafting.
White water rafting is an amazingly good time (went in West Virginia once... feel free to make "Deliverance" jokes) so I was very excited to learn of this opportunity. Sky Diving has always been something I would "Sounds Cool" to but not anymore after a trip to MGH's emergency room...
Nurse 1: What room is the sky diver in?
Nurse 2: He's being brought in by ambulance now...his chute didn't open.
Nurse 1: Let me know when he's here.
Me: A Sky Diver's chute didn't open and he's alive?
Nurse 2: Sort of... *gives a so-so wave of the hand*
Me: *internally vomits*
I'll be sure to check out SBS' future events because I'm a social whore who is always looking to save a dime.

SBS is such an amazing organization! If you want to join a group where you can try new things, meet new people and have lots of fun, then SBS is for you! I have done a bunch of events with SBS: wine tasting, white water rafting, the beach bash, ski trips....etc. Every time it is a great time! The lastest event, the beach bash, didn't disappoint. Heading out at 10 from Copley, the party started immediately and continued until we got back into the city.
Highly suggest joining SBS and heading out to some of the events! You won't be sorry!

Having been a member of Social Boston Sports from its start last winter, I have found it to be an incredibly great way to meet new people while doing activities that you might not have otherwise found the time to plan.
Over the past year, I have participated in SBS' softball and dodgeball leagues, went on a whitewater rafting trip, and did a harbor cruise, none of which I would've thought about doing otherwise. All the events that SBS hosts are very reasonably priced, as the group does its best to get group discounts wherever possible.
It's very easy to make new friends with SBS, as there is a very solid mix of people who are new to Boston or have lived here their whole lives. The group is a great way to make connections outside of work and home with people who have the same active lifestyles as you. I'd recommend SBS to anyone who is new to the area, likes to have an active lifestyle, or wants to meet new people.

Social Boston Sports gets it right...they put Social before Sports! Such a great group of people: sports fans that know how to have a good time. My friends and I went to the Halloween party at Felt and it was totally worth it. For $10, we skipped the huge line, got free vodka drinks from 9-10p and partied with some quality SBS-ers. Thanks for organizing such great fun!

I've been saving this review because I needed it to be jusssst right. But, I've been hanging out with Goldilocks a lot lately and am pretty sure I've gotten a hang of things.
I wish Obama had used more lists in the debate the other night, so to prove the efficiency of lists, I submit for humble review the reasons why I still hang out with SBSers.
1. SBS is run by real people who didn't start it to make money. Huge points.
2. The co founders still attend every event...whaaaat! Amazing that they still care and honestly enjoy each event after 1.5yrs. And, they give great hugs :), no half arm, butt out crap.
3. The love for SBS is contagious, most people I've met at events say that they started playing in a league and haven't stopped attending events since.
4. There is no social judgment. You can't say that you had that in college, probably don't have it at your job and maybe not even in your group of friends. No one asserts an air of superiority, people are friendly for friendly's sake. You don't even have to pay to be invited to things, just sign up.
5. No forced networking, forced chatting, forced fun, just a laid back atmosphere.
6. SBS plans things for you. Most of us like being active, but we lack the decisive energy to put shit together...SBS takes care of the details.
7. Not just for drinking. Some people went to college just to drink, most people go out just to drink, but people go to SBS events to do something other than drink...even though they will probably drink before during or after that other thing.
More to come (honestly) but I can't say enough how much love and trust I have for SBS.
I hope to see you at an SBS event soon, come say hi :).

I had no idea what I was getting into a year ago when a friend said they needed one more player on their dodgeball team. I have played every season since, and have loved every minute of it. It literally is an hour of exercise and friendly competition, followed by bar time! And what better way to meet people afterwards at the bar than to say "Your throw was amazing" or "I can't believe you caught 2 balls at once!" Never thought I'd be saying those lines before "So the weather is pretty nice" or "Where you from?" I am sort of type B at times when it comes to meeting a whole bunch of new people, but SBS has made it soooo easy to just immerse yourself in these groups, whether it be a sport, a fundraiser, an event, a trip, you name it. And that's really not something I say every day, or take very lightly. You might sign up to play with a friend you know, but you will leave having met a whole bunch of great people. And if you are playing a sport, you'd think you'd just be real tight with your team - but the bar time brings all of the teams together to give you face time with everyone in the league. And that makes the following week's games that much more fun, since you now know who you're up against ;-) SOCIAL Boston Sports 100% lives up to its name.
I can certainly say SBS has increased my social life pretty exponentially and has given me the chance to have developed an amazing group of friends. Its like the new era of friendship progression: Grade school, high school, college, and now SBS friends!! I absolutely love all of the people I have met and we all have a great time, now even outside of SBS sports and social events.
This past winter I went on the SBS ski trip to Jay Peak, VT and had one of THE best times of my life. What's better than hanging out with your friends, skiing/boarding all day, drinking all night, and doing it all completely slopeside? Condos (with full kitchens, working fire places and the comfiest beds!), bar, hot tub, without driving anywhere? AND for the most decent price ever? You got it! We even got an extra day of skiing thrown in for free!
The biggest bonus is that the co-owners were both there, having the time of their lives right alongside you. You will find them at most sport nights, every trip, and a whole lot of events! They are some of the most down to earth, receptive, caring dudes I've ever met. And that says a lot about the organization that they run. They do it all for YOU to ensure you have a good time and do it in a social, fun environment, AND for fair prices that don't leave you wondering why in hell you are paying so much for it. (Ugh, thats the worst!) Most of the time I am wondering why I am paying so LITTLE for something so GREAT, haha. Can never say enough about Social Boston Sports and the friendships and amazing times/memories it has brought to my life.

One word... DODGEBALL!
That's how we found out about these guys. The league play has been awesome, its a great way to meet new people both on the court and off. They host a bar night after every game and have done a great job organizing everything. I can't wait for the upcoming trip to Smuggs and future leagues and outings!

Social Boston Sports is everything I'd been looking for.
I love playing sports, hanging out with cool people, going out and having a good time, and giving back to the community and I found all of this in one place at Social Boston Sports. What I really like about SBS is that the events and leagues they plan are things I've always wanted to do but didn't have the time to organize it myself.
I found Social Boston Sports through a good friend in the Spring. I'd been wanting to join a softball team for years now but never went through the trouble of finding one. I was always hesitant to join a team or league because I hadn't played since high school. There was a mixture of good players and other inexperienced players, but the great thing is that everyone was accepted the same. My team may not have won it all but we had a great time every game! Since then I have joined SBS in their white water rafting trip, volleyball tournament, dodgeball league and various bar night and have thoroughly enjoyed myself at every event.
My family has a favorite saying, 'Good people attract good people.' I think I feel so at home with the founders of SBS, their friends, and SBS's many members because they are all good people. Justin, Brian, and John have created something great that has attracted tons of people that are easy to get along with and fun. I recommend becoming an SBS member to anyone and everyone!

SBS is a great organization that gets people of all kinds together for one common idea, that idea is to have fun! I joined SBS through, Roni, a legendary Yelper. Today was their first beach trip to Duxbury Beach. They ordered a Bustonian (see upcoming yelp review) that picked everyone up in front of the BPL at Copley @ 10am and we returned at 5pm. It was a very fun day! Thanks SBS! Looking forward to more events, but this will be pretty hard to top, though I look forward to the challenge.

SBS is definitely THE organization to get involved with as a young professional in Boston. All of their events and sports leagues are packed with new people to meet but more importantly every event has been very friendly to my wallet.
